S1 E8 - Show vs. Tell
Editing can be an overwhelming experience, so this month we are bringing you our tips for silencing your inner critic and dealing with self-doubt.
As writers, we are all guilty of telling instead of showing at some point. Ever wonder how to identify where that is in your writing and how to make it go away?
In this episode, we talk about showing versus telling and when to use each and how to do so appropriately. We will give you warning flags and words as well as give you some ideas on how take the scene or paragraph from telling to showing (or vice-versa if that's the case).
In today's episode, we mentioned two resources:
The Emotional Thesaurus collection by Angela Ackerman & Becca Puglisi as well as the book, Sin & Syntax: How to Create Wicked Good Prose by Constance Hale

S1 E7 - Passive vs. Active Voice
Editing can be an overwhelming experience, so this month we are bringing you our tips for silencing your inner critic and dealing with self-doubt.
Have you ever wondered what other writers meant when they said, "That section is too passive."? In this episode, we talk about what that means and how to identify when you could be writing in the passive voice. We will give you warning flags and words as well as give you some ideas on how to make the section into more of an active voices as well as discussing when it's okay to use a passive voice.
In this episode, we mentioned the eight "Be" verbs: am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been. We also mentioned one of our favorite writing tools that helps us identify and change that pesky passive writing voice: ProWriting Aid.
