Welcome to My Three Headlines. Episode 01

Welcome to My Three Headlines. Episode 01

Welcome to "My Three Headlines" where I explore three topics that both matter to me and may be prominent issues in the daily lives of BC residents. In this first episode, I discuss the dangers of division, ADHD in children and a lack of inclusive education, and renting from homeowner landlords while making this a fair process where both parties are accountable and must show that they are qualified. These are issues that effect many but are often misunderstood or ignored. I share my personal experiences and opinions on these topics, while also sharing facts and data. I hope you enjoy listening. I not only welcome your feedback, but I encourage it. I want this monologue series to be a discussion and I want to hear about what you feel and think about the issues. Thank you!

Community Leader, and Executive Director of Dr. Sun Yet Sen Chinese Garden, Lorraine Lowe .

From diversity and family to immigration and Vancouver gems that must be experienced, my discussion with Lorraine Lowe digs deep while exploring ideas and concepts that broaden one’s perspective on our much-loved west coast urban centre. We discuss history, Lorraine’s work to help bring Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and Chinatown communities closer together, and throughout our discussion, it becomes clear how Lorraine Lowe has reached her level of success. She is a no-nonsense, hard-working woman and a person whose kindness is a part of everything she does. She throws Vancouver’s “no fun” label out the door and tells us why she has never left the city where she was born, and now raises a family of her own.  Episode coming this week!

Teaser for episode 11-Stay tuned for a discussion about Musqueam past and present, and the answers to some of the questions about Indigenous peoples and perspectives that you have been wanting to ask.

Later this week, I speak with a Vancouver Musqueam leader who is passionate about teaching and sharing knowledge about his culture, story, and values. Musqueam are traditional hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking people with a growing community of over 1,300 members. The last residential school closed the year that Wade Grant graduated from high school and at the time, he knew nothing about this. Now his knowledge is endless and he has held various roles in governing, and with government. Wade serves as the Intergovernmental Affairs Officer to the Musqueam First Nation, while also serving as a Board Chair for the First Nations Health Council, and New Relationship Trust. In our discussion, we dive into topics around reconciliation, land acknowledgments, education, family, and even insight from a child that stuck with him on a recent orange shirt day.

Join me for an insightful and dynamic conversation with Wade Grant as he shares his culture and perspectives with me.

#02x09 A woman who makes her own opportunities and is working towards a childhood declaration of being “The next Connie Chung”. Global News BC reporter Angela Jung joins me to talk broadcast news.

From diversity in the newsroom to challenging her own beliefs and working hard to present the facts as they are, Angela Jung tells me about life in broadcast news and what brings her joy as a journalist. With her favorite stories being court and legal pieces and describing early advice on taking voice lessons to lower her on air sound, Angela shares details that provide a glimpse behind the scenes of TV news. This is an inspiring and informative episode with a kind and ambitious journalist.

BC Broadcast Journalist Angela Jung breaks down the TV news world and tells her story.

BC Broadcast Journalist Angela Jung breaks down the TV news world and tells her story.

Now working as a reporter for Global News BC, an outlet where more British Columbians tune in for local news than any other news station in the province, Angela has her work cut out for her. An ambitious journalist who knows what she wants and works hard to accomplish it, Angela has an insatiable appetite to learn more. Angela tells me about her childhood dream of becoming Connie Chung, the path she has taken in a competitive environment to land where she is today, while uncertainty appears at every corner, and she discusses the journalism industry overall. At a time when the news space is constantly evolving, Angela has her feet planted firmly in her passion to gather and deliver stories that are meaningful and valuable to viewers.
