DEP Episode 3 Accountability: Honor your Why

What goes into how accountability for anyone works or doesn't, and why is it important to look at your accountability?

"I believe I'm going to be accountable for doing my work; I'm going to be accountable for moving through when shame and grief show up in this work. I'm going to be accountable for moving through it and understanding it and transcending it, and not being it is why I'm going to opt out, right? I'm going to be accountable to move through it, which means I believe in myself enough that I can do this. And like when we hold someone else accountable, what we're really saying is, I believe in you enough, that I am going to trust that you're going to follow through on this need to ourselves, as I believe in me enough that I'm going to follow through on this."

In this episode of the It's Time to Adapt series, Tracy Y. Washington and Radiance Real Talk host Carole Burton, associates in Professional Development, talks about how people change when they choose to opt-in and sit in uncomfortable when they find themselves in an awkward situation. We invite leaders to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. We're asking leaders to permit themselves to explore the pinpoints and freely walk through this phase. We want leaders to know they can do this, powerfully. When we sit in an uncomfortable space, it allows us to exist for the sake of existing. We believe being uncomfortable is crucial and shows others what it takes to be a great leader. This is the time when we know you can do this. You will grow and change to become better.

ITTA Episode 3 Be Aware

In this episode of the It's Time to Adapt series, Radiance Real Talk host, Carole Burton, and Tracy Y. Washington take a deep dive into the impact and imprint of Emotional Intelligence. We check in with our Internal Temperature and take a look through the lens of how you are aware of understanding how you feel in challenging situations when you don't have the answers. We ask ourselves and then discuss, "What is the threat at the moment?, Who am I in this self-chosen role?, How am I listening?, Do I take the time to listen and see what is going on?, What am I to learn?" ITTA Episode 2 Be Vulnerable

In this episode of the It's Time to Adapt series, Tracy Y. Washington from the Relationship Leadership Philosophy and Radiance Real Talk host, Carole Burton of Radiance Resources, explores the power of vulnerability. We're inviting you to consider what it means when we, as leaders, choose to be vulnerable to be present in a situation. When leaders choose to be vulnerable, we permit ourselves to be uncomfortable yet open to grow and evolve. We address questions such as, "What is our business Breaking Point?, What is the turning point?, Are we stuck?,  What do I do? or What was my role that got us here?" We pose alternative questions such as "Where am I?, What am I?, Where do I sit with all this?" We talk about how being vulnerable means leaders need to have tough conversations. One person may not have all the answers. Being vulnerable opens us to let go of being in control, carrying shame, or embarrassment, and pride. We allow others to contribute. Hence we empower others to lead.

A listener committed, "The discussion on vulnerability makes you think about when and how you are vulnerable as well as how it helps the situation. If you sometimes choose not to be vulnerable, ask yourself why."

Welcome to the It's Time to Adapt series. Your host, Carole Burton invites fellow Leadership Professional Development colleague, Tracy Y. Washington, to discuss how we can adapt in the workplace and life.

Carole and Tracy noticed how people are trying to figure out ways to respond to all developments surrounding us. We thought to invite you to listen in on our discussions about what we see and share how you can navigate in today's climate.

It's Time to Adapt aims to offer ways to reflect and engage in the challenges organizations face and how to respond. We talk about how leaders seek to lead, not knowing what the day next brings. We discuss how employees navigate to thrive. When we recorded the introduction, we realized we needed to discuss four topics to help leaders during these times and broke them out into four episodes. We address why leaders need to be vulnerable, aware, uncomfortable, and understand how we connect to each other and our environment. While we base much our conversation on adapting, we chose to view the lens of grieving, equity, and culture. Let’s face it, most of us have experienced when the politics of an organization gets ugly and it isn’t hard to spot change on the horizon. When Equity uses the Platinum Rule it allows the shift into the community rather than staying in a space of individualism.

Carole discusses that when you have a political structure and it is perceived that everyone agrees with the “rules” it is where the conflict emerges. She challenges us to remember that every person has a different perception, set of experiences, and understanding of those “rules”. Carole provides some thought-provoking ways to seek to understand.
