DEP Episode 1 What's a Daily Equity Practice?

The Daily Equity Practice series is the next level of self-awareness post-2020. We discuss the complex parts of Racial Equity and figure out a way to create a daily Equity Practice in life and the workplace. We invite you to join in.

Do you keep asking yourself, "What do I do now?" More than likely, you have read books, watched videos, and listened in on panels. You are ready to take the next step, and this series is for you. Carole Burton invites Brand Activator Sarah McNally to discuss what Equity is. As Sarah continues to step deep down in her core, Carole does the same with a Daily Equity practice.

We go down the internal, visceral work path that is not easy to face. Yet, it is necessary for us as a society to thrive and create a real future for ourselves and each other. We all play a role.

During the Introduction episode, we found three themes to share with you. We talk about Opt-In's choice, the importance of Accountability, and why we need to Adapt. Last, we share the essential components to help you create a Daily Equity Practice.

We ask you to listen, think about, talk with others, and share. Welcome to Radiance Real Talk.

ITTA Episode 1 The Foundation

Welcome to the It's Time to Adapt series. Your host, Carole Burton invites fellow Leadership Professional Development colleague, Tracy Y. Washington, to discuss how we can adapt in the workplace and life.

Carole and Tracy noticed how people are trying to figure out ways to respond to all developments surrounding us. We thought to invite you to listen in on our discussions about what we see and share how you can navigate in today's climate.

It's Time to Adapt aims to offer ways to reflect and engage in the challenges organizations face and how to respond. We talk about how leaders seek to lead, not knowing what the day next brings. We discuss how employees navigate to thrive. When we recorded the introduction, we realized we needed to discuss four topics to help leaders during these times and broke them out into four episodes. We address why leaders need to be vulnerable, aware, uncomfortable, and understand how we connect to each other and our environment. While we base much our conversation on adapting, we chose to view the lens of grieving, equity, and culture. We thought to share through our eyes, perspectives, and experiences to help you navigate as you do the same.

Think about, talk with others, and share. Welcome to Radiance Real Talk.

RRT - Ep. 15 What does Equity mean from a Symbolic or Cultural Mindset in Your Organization?

Equity Series Ep. 15 What does Equity mean from a Symbolic or Cultural Mindset in Your Organization?

People and communities are the vision of what is next. When we value our culture, we create a collective thought that becomes our vehicle to thrive.

Listen to this.

Join host, Carole Burton, on her final stop of the Equity Series discussing the topic of the Symbolic Mindset. (Make sure to listen to season 2 - episodes 01-04 available now.)

Thank you for being curious about our Equity Series journey. During this episode, Carole works with the symbolic framework, the final framework for the Bolman and Deal model. Bolman and Deal focus on organizational change and how managers can view the operations, structure, communication, and processes from a wide variety of perspectives, which empowers managers to build high-performance within the organization.

Carole answers - What is symbolic in organizations? And how does a leader look at equity from this lens?  She challenges us to go beyond the theme colors, logos, and marketing messages. Carole helps us look through the alphabet soup of the culture and go deeper into the collective stories that define companies. All you need to do is look for the rituals – how you gather, celebrate, go to meetings or events – to start to understand the culture. Carole shares how the symbolic frame focuses on the people. How people can be inspired to move the organization forward because people are the engine of the vision. When you have equity as the playing field it creates a wonder of how much better an organization can be.

RRT - Ep. 14 What does Equity mean from a Political Mindset in Your Organization?

Equity Series Ep. 14 What does Equity mean from a Political Mindset in Your Organization?

Do you have conflict in your organization? What are you seeking to understand?  Listen to this.

Join host, Carole Burton, as she continues discussing the topic of Political Mindset in the fourth of her five-part Equity Series.

The political framework or perspective is the next stop of the Equity Series journey. Carole continues to unpack the Bolman and Deal model - how managers can view the operations, structure, communication, and processes from a wide variety of perspectives, which empowers managers to build high-performance within the organization.

Carole shares how a company is made up of coalitions, individuals, and interest groups. It is from an individualistic mindset where “hidden agendas” emerge in company culture and during times of uncertainty is when those agendas are amplified.

Carole shares how this model can be used for conflict resolution. Let’s face it, most of us have experienced when the politics of an organization gets ugly and it isn’t hard to spot change on the horizon. When Equity uses the Platinum Rule it allows the shift into the community rather than staying in a space of individualism.

Carole discusses that when you have a political structure and it is perceived that everyone agrees with the “rules” it is where the conflict emerges. She challenges us to remember that every person has a different perception, set of experiences, and understanding of those “rules”. Carole provides some thought-provoking ways to seek to understand. It is all about the culture of the company when working with Equity.

RRT - Ep. 12 What does Equity mean from a Structural Mindset?

Equity Series Ep. 12 What is Equity and Why is Equity Important?

How do I infuse Equity into my workplace? Where do I start?  Got 15 minutes to learn how to begin the Equity journey for your organization?

Join host, Carole Burton, as she continues discussing the topic of Equity in the second of her four-part series on Equity.

Carole continues to unpack the Bolman and Deal model - how managers can view the operations, structure, communication, and processes from a wide variety of perspectives, which empowers managers to build high-performance within the organization.

She also offers how-to approach organization issues from the model’s frames. The first step is to focus on the structural perspective from Bolman and Deal and connect it to equity. She answers - How leaders can use this tool from this framework to move the Equity conversation forward within the organization.

Carole shares how this model can be used to implement change. Every company says we are a “great: company and we are doing well…yet there are issues. This is why we get to create a mindset change as the first step to the mind shift. The structural frame is the obvious area of “how” to change because it is the technical aspect of it.

Equity is part of the foundation from where the change grows, it allows the transparency and divergent thinking necessary in the room to understand what the “rules” are. Think of a workplace where everyone receives fair treatment where language and ideas matter – that is the essence of Equity.

RRT - Ep. 11 What is Equity and Why is Equity Important?

Equity Series Ep. 11 What is Equity and Why is Equity Important?

Equity works from a company culture perspective. Got 15 minutes to discover what impact equity could have if everyone had a voice at the table?

Join host, Carole Burton, as she delivers the first of a four-part series on Equity.

Carole reminisces on one of her first lessons on equity she learned from her mother. “There are two people who are the most important people in the building, and they are the secretary and the janitor. One opens the door and the other closes the door.” A profound message on identifying the key attributes of culture in any workplace environment.

Carole shares the Bolman and Deal model - how managers can view the operations, structure, communication, and processes from a wide variety of perspectives, which empowers managers to build high-performance within the organization. Carole also discusses that by infusing inclusion and diversity into the company culture you can see how equity plays underneath all of that.

She challenges the status quo - to think about what you might miss in interactions if you are not present. There could be thought-provoking and life-changing adventures that await us if only we are open to receiving the wisdom.
