Humans and monkeys are not so different after all! The talk with Prof. William von Hippel
Do all systems governed by social rules include moral choices and moral imperatives? Why do we care so much, what the other people get compared to us? Bill answers these questions and many more in a brilliant manner, picturing a complex sketch of different influences on our behaviour. As an evolutionary psychologist, he looks for clues and similarities in our common ancestors, the primates. He shortly vocalises his opinion about why the sciences have to fight idealogical movements and prove their worth as sources of knowledge and important discoveries. Bill dives into the topic of human communication due to the technological changes. as well.  Guest: William von Hippel, Professor of Psychology at the University of Queensland in Australia Host: Michal Hulik, Head of Communications at Radiolutions

Cancer treatment, why the hell are we making patients more sick? The talk with Prof. Thomas Seyfried
Have you heard about the research conducted by Otto Warburg (Nobel Prize in chemistry, 1931)? If not, you might not know the modern follow up either! How is respiration and fermentation connected to cancer? How can calorie-restricted ketogenic diets and fasting help with cancer? The answers and much more coming from a man, who dedicated his life to understanding cancer and how to treat it, without making the patients sicker using radiation or chemotherapy. Professor Seyfried explains in simple terms, how the fermentation of glucose, damage to mitochondria and inflammation are connected in terms of cancer development. He was often labeled as controversial, yet his work is based on solid science and the obvious need for an alternative treatment for cancer patients. We scrutinise together, why this knowledge is either unknown to doctors, or suspiciously frowned upon. In his books, you can find more detailed information about his work and the work of his colleagues. "We are all miserable, because we are trying so hard not to be!" The talk with Prof. Anna Lembke
Did you ever wonder, why we have so many people suffering from depression? Is spirituality just a buzz word these days offering false hopes? Find out, why Professor Anna Lembke, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and behavioural sciences, Director of addiction medicine at Stanford and a book author, chose to work in the field of psychiatry. She explains very well, how addiction come to be very difficult to deal with. We discuss why some fields in medicine are not cooperating sufficiently. Anna is a wonderful person to talk to and her book "Drug dealer, how doctors were duped, patients got hooked and why is it so hard to stop?" gave me an insight on the huge problem of medical drug use as a "state of art" treatment for any sort of condition. In connection to this she explained, why pain has an intrinsic value, what "toyotisation" of medicine is and how lack of care continuity kills healthcare.  Guest: Prof. Anna Lembke, Associate Professor and Medical Director of Addiction Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine, program Director of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Fellowship and Chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic  Host: Michal Hulik, Head of Communication at Radiolutions

Wendy's in a hospital cafeteria, you must be kidding! The talk with Dr. Joel Kahn, MD, FACC
Vegan lifestyle, why should you consider it? What is wrong with our hearts thanks to our jobs?  Joel is simply a fun guy to talk to, he is an interventional cardiologist and as such fights every day on behalf of a diet, which he considers the best for the heart. In our talk he was as kind as to explain me not only the current state of affairs in terms of dietician's 101, but also where the research stands and what claims can or cannot be trusted.  Bottom line is that the Mediterranean states like Greece and Italy possess healthy nutrition habits, which provides them not only with longevity but with a relatively sickness-free life.  To spice up things he explains how diets influence blood flow, which influences for example sexual arousal ability for both, male and female. And because Joel is not afraid to speak up up about sensitive topics such as body shape relation to health, we discuss the morbidly obese labeled as plus size models, too. The situation of healthcare in Russia, a changing landscape! The talk with Prof. Sergey Morozov, MD
The former rector of the EMC Medical School in Moscow, Professor of Radiology and now a CEO of a radiology center in Moscow, Sergey explains very vividly, how Russia's healthcare is changing in the last few years. One could call it dramatic, but things are improving rapidly in all dimensions included the medical education, clinical excellence and quality of patient care. He discusses how important the understanding of recruitment, change management and innovation are inside the field of medicine, not at its outskirts. Sarcopenia, the modern kryptonite of the elderly? The talk with Prof. Andrea B. Maier
Do you have an idea how much muscle mass you loose between the age of 20 and 80? Thanks to researchers like her, we know more today. Additionally, speaking about ageing, Andrea explains what the cellular senescence is and how it is connected to cancer. I also get schooled on the topic of wisdom, which she comprehends in a different way. Who is the man behind the movie Concussion? The talk with Professor Dr. Bennet Omalu
The 2015 film Concussion, which was nominated for an MTV Movie Award in the true story category, stars Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic pathologist who becomes embroiled in a battle with the NFL after his research indicates that a football career can lead to lasting brain damage .The real Dr. Omalu, a physician originally from Nigeria, began his research somewhat accidentally, when he was assigned to perform an autopsy on former NFL star Mike Webster, according to a 2009 GQ profile of Omalu that reportedly inspired the 2015 film. Webster had been a famous football player who, by the time his life ended at age 50, was "pissing in his own oven and squirting Super Glue on his rotting teeth," according to GQ. When Omalu examined Webster's brain, things appeared normal on the surface, but he had a suspicion that there was unseen damage. After getting permission to examine Webster's brain in depth, Dr.Omalu discovered something unnerving — a build-up of proteins, splattered around the brain and gunking up the works, seemed like they might have been the cause of Webster's erratic and dysfunctional behavior. And Omalu believed it was caused by a lifetime of repeated head injuries. He named the disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. The film also stars Alec Baldwin as Dr. Julian Bailes, the chairman of neurosurgery at West Virginia University Hospitals who teamed up with Omalu to support his CTE research.  The real Bailes and Omalu fought to share their findings, despite the fact that the NFL not only refused to cooperate with their research but actively tried to isolate Omalu: When the NFL held a summit to discuss concussions in 2007, 300 doctors, scientists and trainers, both from within the NFL and outside of the organization, were invited to participate, reports GQ, but Omalu wasn't. Despite the attempts by the NFL to dismiss Omalu, he was able to publish and advocate for his research, eventually forcing the league to begin to acknowledge the dangers of CTE and the risks that players face. But even though the movie has been made, Omalu's real-life work isn't over. "Anybody still denying the disease is out of his mind," Omalu told GQ in 2009. "The issue now is treatment. That is my next step, now that I understand the pathology." Guest: Professor Dr. Bennet Omalu, world's most famous pathologist   Host: Michal Hulik, CMO Radiolutions
