For 48 years, The San Francisco-based American Indian Film Festival has been a sort of sacred cinema space, celebrating and uplifting the experiences of Natives through film while also providing  Native filmmakers and actors with a platform to showcase their work. As the opening date for this year's Festival nears, we sit down with Mytia Zavala, the daughter of the festival’s founder, Michael Smith. Smith died suddenly in 2018, leaving Zavala to carry on her father’s legacy. Here is our conversation.

In this next episode, we are joined by Guillermo Alarcon, the Founder and Creative Director of the forthcoming video game, Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale. Mictlan, which is scheduled to launch in the winter of 2025, is the first open world meso-american themed video game and takes place in the 16th century during Spain's invasion of what is known today as Mexico. Earlier this year, we interviewed Guillermo and asked him about what inspired this first of its kind project, why the inclusion and representation of indigenous people in media and video games is needed, and the challenges that exist in making a dream project like this become a reality.
