Random Levels

The reports of our death are greatly exaggerated. In this, our landmark 10th episode, have our first boss fight! Join us as we talk Mahjong, Valheim, ACTUAL pen-and-paper RPGs, and a few other games in between!

Nine episodes in, and we now have a pretty solid foundation. Upon that foundation is Level 9, and it's all about building (the verb, not the noun) in games! Also, we've been crawling through this for a while now, and we sense a boss fight ahead, so stay tuned for that!

We're sure there's a perfectly rational explanation for all of this. In this episode, we're tacking the supernatural in games, from a little Eldritch Horror, unsolved mysteries, and a little spook ghost action, we take a look at the games that go "bump" in the night.

2020 being over is plenty of reason to celebrate, and we're doing just that with this episode on new games with Ren as the player! In this level we discuss games with travel as a central theme, because, let's face it--even the most determined of us hermits have just about had it with being stuck indoors. While it might take a while before we get to chow down on some airplane food, join us as we go over some titles that let us escape being stuck at home, even just for a little while. Taks is the player, and there's even a little travel anime tidbit in there for you all!

In this bonus stage, we take a quick break, and just catch up on games that we've talked about in past episodes, and ones that we're playing now! :D 

We might have explained magic away with science, but it's still very much alive in the games we play. In this level, we take a look at magic, and how it has taken many interesting forms in digital and analog gaming (as well as the world's most complicated game). We also learn about Taks' being a hipster, and get to know the fifth, accidental member of the podcast team.  Level 5: Magic, has arrived!

Myths are great sources of material for many games. On this level, we take a look at mythology from the West, the Middle East, the East, and a quick peek at some from our home, the Philippines. WARNING! There's a bit of salty language in this one--we're talking about gods after all, and man, they were real a**h***s.

Man, zombies, amirite? From staple scare to cultural commentary, the undead made their way into the objective psyche, and have unlived there ever since. In this, essentially our Halloween episode with Rach as the player, we take a look at zombies in games, along with why they're so prevalent, so scary, and so much fun.

In our second episode, where Ren is the player, we tackle animals in games. They're not only great companions, they're lots of other things as well! From resources, to main characters, we've got a whole list of games you might want to try out, yourself!

Food is a massively important part of human culture, so it makes sense that it's a common element in games. In this episode, where Tracy is The Player, we take a look at food and how it's used in some of our favorite titles (that might become your favorites too)! Also, it is revealed that Taks wants to eat a beaver.
