The Function of The Modern Day Muse (A Brainstorm)

The Function of The Modern Day Muse (A Brainstorm)

As a verb, to muse is to consider something thoughtfully. As a noun, traditionally it means a woman who is a source of artistic inspiration; stemming from ancient Greek mythology. The Muses were the goddesses of poetic inspiration, the adored deities of song, dance, and memory, on whose mercy the creativity, wisdom and insight of artists, thinkers, and scientists wholeheartedly depended. Today, a muse is any person who serves as an artist’s inspiration.

Reshma Eyafe brainstorm a future RantboxTV episode on the function of the muse in the 21st Century.

'We dialogue around language, episodic form, and personal entanglements - each feeling our way through the idea of a muse and her impact on the artist, eventually arriving at more questions than answers. The most important one… Who is she?'

Do superheroes benefit pop culture? (part II)

Do superheroes benefit pop culture? (part II)

Last time we asked: Why are Wonder Woman's early links to BDSM relatively obscure? Is Wandavision patronising and have superheroes benefited the games industry at the expense of the comic book industry?

This time we discuss the impact of superheroes on literary fiction, radio plays, stage shows, musical theatre and internet web plays.

Watch RANTBOX.TV, that rare beast that offers nuanced commentary on race, gender, and other community concerns in 21st Century Britain and abroad.

A new video is posted every Friday by 12:30pm noon at the very latest.

All this plus a deconstruction of the vocalist, LE JUNK, film director Steve Gullick Photography and Bess Cavendish, all collaborators on Primitive Ignorant's latest single, 'The Ballad of Markland Estate'.
