Rae's Violet San Antonio Adventures: Positivity in SA

Shocker! I know the previous episodes have sounded less like adventures and more like miseries. It was always a different struggle, but I want to clarify it wasn't all doom and gloom! I had a lot of positive experiences and met some great people in between those struggles.

In this episode, I take on a more positive tone and talk about the brighter side of my time in San Antonio. From a journalist meetup to hanging out with new friends, this is it.

Digital and Social News Intern: What's It Like?

8/1/21:

I came to San Antonio mainly to work through my internship, but I wanted to have some fun as well. Lucky for me, most of my fun has been at work! I'm working as a digital and social media intern at the top news station in San Antonio! This is how it's been.

Rae's Violet San Antonio Adventures: Weekend in Dallas

Rae's Violet San Antonio Adventures: Weekend in Dallas

July 27: I took a trip home from San Antonio to regain hope and wash away the soul-crushing loneliness I'd been feeling on the weekends. Also, I wanted to see my family.

I asked one of my supervisors for a day off so I could have a 3-day weekend out to Dallas. There were 3 reasons I wanted to go there: to get my plates and stickers, see my parents, and have a weekend that wasn't spent crying.

In my time there, I realized how there's so much more I have not been appreciating and that I have a lot to be grateful for, even when I'm alone in San Antonio. This entire time, I have been struggling with feelings of loneliness and dwelling on all of my temporary friendships (even at home!). Despite this, no matter where I am, I have had a lot of blessings and I have a lot to look forward to-- even at the end of my internship when I'm back in Dallas and will still have few friendships.

San Antonio Adventures: Margaritas Alone

San Antonio Adventures: Margaritas Alone

On July 18, I went to one of the spots that's said to have some of the best margaritas in SATX-- La Gloria in the Pearl. I went alone because I had no one to go with me, but I was really determined to get a margarita before I leave here. As I sat there sipping my margarita and the minutes went by, I realized something. I was sick of my solo explorations of this town. It wasn't fun anymore. I felt let down by all the people (3 in particular) who had recommended these places to me and were now ghosting me or straight up ignoring me to my face. So I decided once I got home, this would be my last solo outing while I'm here.

*Spoiler alert: it wasn't really my last "solo adventure"*

Rae's Violet San Antonio Adventures: Got My Car Now!

No more struggle b**ch hours for me! On June 20, I was finally relieved of my bus, Lyft, and Uber struggle time adventures in San Antonio. My parents drove all the way from Dallas on Father's Day to bring me my car. I felt a huge load of depression lifted from my shoulders.

Rae's Violet San Antonio Adventures I

I thought I had it all figured out moving here to San Antonio and doing what I love. I did not. The struggle is real without a car because everything is far as all get out walking from here to anywhere. Also, my life is now a comedy with no shortage of plot twists. Stay tuned for updates!

RJ Capstone-Local Online Dating During the Pandemic

This is my individual podcast section for my news capstone class. It wasn't in the final product, but this is what I originally was going to submit. It's a VERY rough draft, but it didn't come out too bad! Anyway, this is what singles in Dallas and Denton thought of COVID testing before meeting dates or considering more dates with potential matches. Full Story coming soon on my journalist portfolio.
