Raw Conversations with Corinne Blum

By Corinne Blum

Raw Conversations is an off the cuff podcast talking about what it’s like to be human behind the masks, facades and filters we often wear or hide behind in life. We dive below who we think we “should” be, and into who we truly are as our Authentic Self. Embracing our entire humanity and learning along the way that it’s ok to be who we are. Nothing to fix. Nothing to get rid of. Just our humanity looking to be held, loved and accepted for what and who it is. Life is just a series of experiences. Can we hold it without judgment and embrace it instead, with love. For love, is the true alchemist.

Faith vs Fear, Living Authentically & Who Or What Is Really In Control?

Faith vs Fear, Living Authentically & Who Or What Is Really In Control?

We’re shifting out of the paradigm of fear and moving into one of faith. But faith isn’t a controlled execution. We don’t say we’re taking a leap of faith and then announce our strategy to get there as if it were some mathematical equation with a particular answer. It’s a leap of faith because we’re stepping, leaping, into an unknown.

When we let go of trying to control life, others, ourselves—and trust, that actually by letting go we’re tuning into our own gps system, our own guidance system that is led by our soul, The Creator Of All That Is, you name it—we’re tuning in, and and harmonising with, that which is always leading and guiding us if we just allow it.

So the question no longer is one of who or what is in control? But rather, am I in harmony, and in partnership with, that which is guiding me? In the letting go of control we realise that letting go doesn’t mean we’re out of control. It actually means we’re in a far greater sense of true safety, because we’re allowing ourselves to be held by the unknown, and the magic that exists within that space, which we’re learning to take a leap of faith into.

From that place we get to live authentically because all of a sudden we’re understanding the entire macro context that we’re existing in. Then we understand the seed of who we are in the midst of the vastness of it all.

It sounds far out, perhaps, but it’s all a process of curiosity, exploration and discovery. And in that process there is relief, magic and a knowing that we are threaded into and held by a web of life that connects us all. When we feel held, there is not need for control because there is nothing to fear.

The Relationship Between The Spiritual & The Human As A Vehicle For Evolution & Growth

The Relationship Between The Spiritual & The Human As A Vehicle For Evolution & Growth

We are in a partnership with our spiritual being and our human being, looking to find collaboration, harmony and learning between both. I think spirituality often gets misconstrued for being a path that has to overcome our humanity—as if our human was something bad or wrong or something to transcend because it isn’t “spiritual—but I believe our humanity is the vehicle for our spiritual growth.

There’s a reason we chose to be human and therefore there is a purpose for our human traits. Our emotions, feelings, wounds, shadows and gifts; they are all teachers.

If we want to spiritually grow and evolve, we have to walk hand in hand with our humanity as equals. Two aspects that need each other to learn and grow. Our human self needs the inspiration, guidance and expansiveness of our spiritual being in order to grow and evolve. Our spiritual being equally needs our human self to grow and evolve through the arc of human emotion, struggle, suffering, vulnerability and so much more.

To spiritually bypass is to forget and leave behind (or worse, neglect and push away) our humanity. But we will not spiritually evolve if we don’t embody our humanity.

We are letting go of old paradigms of thinking and perceiving. There is nothing wrong or bad about your humanity. There is nothing evil about your emotions. You are not broken and you don’t need to be fixed. You are already whole, both between your divinity and your humanity coming together. All the pieces that feel fragmented but are not in fact broken, get to come together through the embracement of your entire self; both spiritual and human.

A great gift of being human is the ability to alchemise and through alchemy, our soul gets to evolve. This is a partnership not a competition. There is no better or worse, only equal, only companions walking this path of growth together, side by side, one within the other.

So the invitation is to know that you are both. To love both, equally. To take both and learn and teach the other through the unique wisdom of both the spiritual and human perspective. Knowing of course, that all is One. All is interconnected. All is a vehicle and catalyst for growth, expansion and the evolution of consciousness itself.

When We Hit Rock Bottom & What Happens On The Otherside

When We Hit Rock Bottom & What Happens On The Otherside

Hitting rock bottom can come about for many reasons and there are many gifts in it, too. It might come from an accumulation of stress, overwhelm, struggle, or it might come as an invitation to truly trust, surrender and let go. And too, sometimes, even though they say that the Universe will only hand you what you can handle, we get to say, “Enough” and draw a line in the sand.

Sometimes it all can feel like too much and we really can’t bear anymore. Sometimes it has to do with our individual journey. But we are also connected to a collective pulse and what we are moving through as a collective being, right now, is immense.

The beauty of rock bottom is in the letting go. It’s also in the realisation that the obstacle is the way. That sometimes what we’re moving through is the very thing that will lead us to our gift.

There’s a softness that comes through and out of the other side if we can just sit with the discomfort of the crumbling and allow ourselves to relinquish control and land in the fertile soil of rock bottom.

We’ve all been there, I am sure. But it’s what we take from it, the fruits we can harvest, the lessons we glean wisdom from and the space of liberation we can expand through on the other side of struggle, pain, suffering and coming truly face to face with ourselves and the Divine tapestry of existence.

This and and so much more.

This episode is really just a story—it just happens to be mine—of being human. And sometimes sharing our stories, the mundane, the dramatic and the beautiful, is important. It helps us know that we’re not alone in our own version and story of being human.

The Fear Of Not Getting It Right: Reclaiming Our True & Natural Power

The Fear Of Not Getting It Right: Reclaiming Our True & Natural Power

We’ve strongly been indoctrinated to believe that there is something more powerful than us outside of us. Whether it’s the voice of authority, our parents, peers, God or even the Universe. We can have the tendency to believe something outside of us knows better, will praise or punish us, is teaching us lessons sometimes kindly and sometimes cruelly.

What we don’t realise is that we are not separate to what we seek guidance from. We are it. We are God, the Universe, Consciousness etc. We are it and we’re co-creating with it. We’ve simply been taught not to trust ourselves, that some higher authority knows better than our own inner knowing and wisdom. We’ve even been severed from source and told we need a middle man to get us there. All of this is something we have to unlearn.

In that context, we fall into the duality of right and wrong, good and bad, succeeding and failing, praise and punishment.

This isn’t a test. We’re not being graded. But we do get to choose what we learn from our experience. We do get to choose how we perceive it and how we respond to it. But no one outside of you has greater authority. No one can tell you how you should live your life, not even God, Spirit or the Source of all that is.

We’re shedding old paradigms and belief systems. We’re learning to trust ourselves again. We’re learning to let go of judgment and most importantly, we’re learning to be more loving, kind and compassionate with ourselves. We’re learning how to value ourselves again for the beautiful beings we are, having this wild and crazy experience of life and being human.

Go gently. Go kindly. We’re unlearning and remembering what’s true, once more.

Love vs Fear: How Making The Choice Will Change Your Life

Love vs Fear: How Making The Choice Will Change Your Life

For millennia mystics, poets and spiritual teachers have been talking about love. But now more than ever, in times of both crumbling and awakening, the choice to follow the path of love seems all the more prevalent.

Choosing love vs fear will change your life. It will also change the world. But it isn’t to say that we won’t still experience fear, but what I mean here is, will you let fear rule or let love lead?

Love is the great alchemist. Love is the only true and real thing. When we leave this body and this crazy simulation—this school of life—the only real thing left is and will be, love.

Fear is a figment of the imagination. It feels very real because we have all sorts, feelings and sensations in the body—the response feels real—but fear itself, isn’t.

The power of love is to hold, embrace and alchemise fear through its infinite and unconditional capacity to love all things. Love will never abandon, reject or neglect. It holds. It cares. It transmutes.

To change the macrocosm we must change the microcosm because “as within, so without and as above, so below.”

We have so much power to change the world. Not in the details but in the quantum. Energy, frequency, vibration and intention are all things not to be underestimated.

You can change the world. You can change your reality. You can change your state of being. But it comes down to this one choice: will you choose fear or love?

Having The Patience To Move Through Your Emotions, State & Phase Of Being

You’re Not A Project: You Get To Be Loved Now

You’re Not A Project: You Get To Be Loved Now

You’re not a never-ending project. You’re not imperfect as you are. You don’t need fixing because you’re not broken. You don’t even need to change how you’re feeling or what you’re experiencing by somehow “making it better,” if it means that you have to deny the truth of where you are in this moment.

The only way to truly “change,” evolve and grow is to first be where we are, here and now, and honour, respect, listen to, and be with our experience. Denying our emotions won’t help us grow. Wallowing in them, won’t encourage us to evolve either. But sitting and being with ourselves as we move through this human experience, will allow us to move through and with it, more fluidly, kindly and compassionately.

We’re coming out of a very long phase where gathering knowledge was one the most important focuses. I believe we’re now moving into a time when we can drop down from the mind and centre ourselves in heart and remember our knowing, instead.

All that we seek is already in here. We haven’t lost it, we’ve merely forgotten it.

What if we allowed ourselves to drop down and in, to come back to heart whenever we find ourselves in a state of tension, and fall into the lap of love that is always there, waiting to hold us?

And why is Love always there to hold us? Because Love is who we are. It is the essence of all that is. So it cannot not be there.

This is not a time of finding, it’s a time of remembering.

What if you didn’t have to try so hard to be you? What if you got to just be you, in all your messy humanity, and know that you are still (and always will be) loved?

The Progression Of Spirituality: The Steps To Your Evolution

The Progression Of Spirituality: The Steps To Your Evolution

We often think of progression as something akin to climbing steps: upwards and higher. We aspire to reach a higher place that is “better” to where (and who) we currently are.

I see progression, on a spiritual or personal evolutionary level, as a spiralling into ourselves so that we can spiral back up and out. We have to go into our humanity to reach our divinity.

The progression might look similar to what Dr. Joe Dispenza says about moving from “thought, to feeling, to knowing. From someone, to no one, to everyone. From somewhere, to nowhere, to everywhere.”

Spiritual progression, or self-growth, is the movement from our thoughts and ideas of who we are (which holds our beliefs, habits, patterns and judgments), into the feeling and language of our body, into such a state of presence and awareness with ourselves, that we naturally settle into what has always been there: our innate knowing and wisdom, our wholeness and worth. Ultimately, our connection, and returning home to, our true essence and Self.

It’s a journey that doesn’t ask you to become perfect. It’s a journey, instead, that invites you to walk towards yourself with a loving embrace.

Holding all parts of us makes us feel whole again. Loving all of who we are makes us feel worthy again. It was all already there—here—we just fragmented ourselves from ourselves.

Spiral in. The most precious thing in the world is already within you. You just have to make space for quiet so that you can listen. You have to stay still so you can feel. You have to be present so that you can receive the wonder and beauty of who you truly are, and who you’ve always been.

Don’t Be Ashamed Of Your Humanity: You’re Meant To Be Human

Don’t Be Ashamed Of Your Humanity: You’re Meant To Be Human

Our culture still holds so much shame around our humanity. I see even in the “self-growth” and spiritual community, this language around ‘getting rid of,’ ‘competing against,’ ‘winning over’ certain aspects of our human selves. From my experience, I don’t find this helpful nor productive.

There are no parts to get rid of. If we’re fighting against, or competing with, certain aspects of ourselves, we’re in battle with ourselves. We’re in separation, fragmentation and in conflict. How can we then feel whole?

The moment we judge an aspect, we’re in conflict with it and all our energy goes towards that fight. I’ve found the quickest way to healing and wholeness (which we already are, we just keep fragmenting ourselves every time we segregate a part of ourselves from ourselves) is by walking towards our pain, sadness and fear, warmly embracing them, allowing them to sit safely in the lap of love.

Love is the ultimate alchemist, we just need to hold the very thing we want to get rid of. Because really, all these aspects are, are scared, younger parts of us that have spent a large part of our life being rejected, abandoned or ignored.

The fastest way to heal is to walk towards and to let go of judgment. When we embrace all of ourselves, we feel free, confident, capable. We stand in our vulnerability and feel its power not its misconstrued weakness. We feel comfortable in our own skin vs insecure. We are at home.

You don’t need to be ashamed of your humanity. You’re meant to be human and being human means you’ll have all sorts of emotions. You’ll be sensitive. You’ll feel vulnerable. Guess what? It’s all normal. So if you want to step towards wholeness, stop being ashamed of your humanity and start embracing it, instead.

The Challenge Of Being Your New Self Within The Old Familiar

The Challenge Of Being Your New Self Within The Old Familiar

It’s not easy to change and evolve ourselves because when we evolve, we might find ourselves outgrowing the old and familiar. It’s one of the reasons people don’t do the inner work, or are afraid to, because maybe they begin to resonate less with their friends or environment. Or maybe they go home to their family and their parents trigger all the old ways, patterns and habits. They’re afraid of losing the familiar which feels safe because it’s known.

When we evolve ourselves and step into our new, more authentic Selves, old environments can be challenging and even painful because our new Self has to confront our old self. It’s a difficult part of the process of growth.

In this episode I talk about how to be with that confrontation in real time. How to not attach to the old story. And how to stay true to our authentic Self along the way.

Things might need to adjust. Some people will fall away as new ones will arrive into our lives. Our relationships might need reevaluating and evolving. The way we show up with our parents might need changing, too. But staying safe in the closed bud of our familiar self won’t lead us to the freedom, peace and happiness we’re seeking. We have to find the courage to walk home to ourselves, trusting that the more we choose our true Self, that only good things can come from it.

It’s not always easy, I won’t lie. So doing the inner work, tending to your body, feelings and emotions and knowing how to self-soothe, is of utmost importance.

You’re Not Your Identity & Letting Go Of The Projection Of What Life Should Be

You’re Not Your Identity & Letting Go Of The Projection Of What Life Should Be

You’re not your identity, nor are you all the beliefs and stories you’ve unconsciously made and believed yourself to be. It sounds odd because we get ‘identified’ with our identity, right? We think we are our behaviour, our beliefs, our anxieties and our fears. But really who you truly are, is an essence, the rest is learnt and sometimes even made up.

Just like we attach ourselves to our identity because it feels familiar, and therefore safe, we equally project onto our lives what life should look like and how it should unfold. I chuckle at the 5 year and 10 year plan because as the saying goes: “How do you make God laugh? You tell him your plans.”

We run into suffering when we expect ourselves and life to be a certain way. We suffer when we take things personally and over identify with our feelings. We equally meet suffering when we expect life to be a certain way and then find ourselves disappointed, ashamed or self-blaming if it doesn’t turn out in the exact way we thought it would. We wonder where we went wrong.

So much of this work is around building self-awareness so that we can differentiate what is our true essence, and what is the identify we’ve attached ourselves to that we believe (falsely) to be our true self.

It comes down to learning the map of who you are. The language of who you are. A place of self-knowing and a gnosis that allows you to truly tune into yourself and the current of life that you’re riding upon. When we can rest in that place, we trust more, let go more and ride the wave with less resistance. And the simplicity of that connection to your higher self and to life, is a beautiful, magical and liberating one.

How Fear Invites Us To Truly Live: a travel story & its gifts

Reflecting, Trusting The Journey & The Wisdom Of The Plateau

Reflecting, Trusting The Journey & The Wisdom Of The Plateau

How much do we trust the journey? Truly trust that wherever we are, whatever we’re experiencing in life, that it is in fact serving us. Sometimes what we need is not what we want. Sometimes the plateau feels never-ending and pointless and yet in hindsight, it offers great wisdom. It’s the point of stillness where everything takes place from.

We often don’t see “results” or glean the wisdom we’ve inherited until after the fact. “Hindsight is 20/20 vision.” So it’s important to pause along the way and reflect, look back and see how far we’ve come. Even if how far we’ve come is not visible in outer accomplishments but reflective of all the inner work we’ve done, instead (which in my humble opinion, has far greater value than reaching any goal).

Time moves at a strange and changing speed. Sometimes it moves at a snail’s pace and then all of a sudden speeds up and catches us up to where we were waiting, all along, to be. So the invitation is trust. Trust it all. Trust that wherever you are on your journey, you’re in just the right place for your learning, growth and wisdom.

As a collective, we’re very future oriented. We’re always looking towards the goal. But don’t underestimate the plateau for it’s where most everything happens. Remember, out of stillness comes motion. Out of silence, comes sound.

So today’s invitation is to stop long enough to reflect and notice what you’ve experienced in the past months and years. If you feel you’re in the plateau, ask yourself what are you needing to look at, sit with, feel into and learn…If you’ve arrived to where you were so long to be, feel the gratitude and take note that you did it. And of course, the journey continues on…

What would life be like if we truly, truly trusted that we are being guided? Yes, we have to engage with it and meet our Higher Selves, our Guides, God, Sprit etc, half way. This is a dance, a partnership, a shared venture. Be present and listen and you will find the next right step along your unique journey.

Leaning Into Life, Trust-falling Into The Arms Of Your Higher Self

Leaning Into Life, Trust-falling Into The Arms Of Your Higher Self

Life constantly invites us to lean into it. I’m learning that what it’s asking is for us to radically trust. To recognise that it’s all just an experience that is innately neutral, but that our perception and perspective gives it meaning. So reality is totally subjective depending on how we choose to respond to it.

Life is like a river. The obstacles we create place stones along the way. The river may bend, it may get choppy and then flow smoothly again. It’s all neutral. It’s all the way.

Radical trust is trusting that our higher Self is guiding us through it all. It passes us through the places that we need to learn something from. It asks us to let go, take that trust fall into its arms and know that sometimes what we need is not what we want but that doesn’t make it any less important.

Finally, we are moving emotions. Each experience brings up a different feeling. It’s our choice whether we resist it or stay with it, feel it, listen to it and move through it. Like swimming through the sea, we get to propel ourselves forwards by moving through the water. Not fighting against it.

Leaning into life is radically trusting that what is here for you now is for your greatest good and how you choose to respond to it will create the experience and shape your reality.

So lean in, trust and perhaps even, enjoy.

Consciousness: Remembering Who We Are & The Magic Of Life

Consciousness: Remembering Who We Are & The Magic Of Life

We might focus a lot on doing the inner work: working through our patterns of behaviour, discovering our wounds, what our needs are, how to cultivate emotional intelligence etc. But if we don’t look at how consciousness plays into all of this, it’s kind of like studying fish in the ocean and ignoring the fact that they live in water.

We are consciousness. Consciousness is in all things. It is what is alive. Call it an energy, frequency, love, God…it is the fabric that weaves through all things, and is in constant communication with us.

This episode runs vast and deep. I encourage you to be curious, open-minded and open-hearted. We come into this world as children so curious, asking a million “why” questions. As adults we harden, we forget, our blinkers slide in and we walk a straight and narrow path. This is an invitation to be childlike again. Curious, open, receptive, moving into peripheral vision vs laser, single-pointed focus.

This awakening that we’re undergoing is just a remembering of who we truly are and what this is all about. So the conversation of consciousness is fundamentally important. Because when we remember who we are and what all things are, we return home and when we’re at home we feel safe (truly safe, not the false illusion of ‘safety’) at peace and in our joy. We feel held again by life, existence and this human experience becomes less scary, less overwhelming and lonely.

I love this conversation because when you really tap into it and bring it into your daily life, you’ll see that magic returns to life again, and that is a wondrous thing!

Facing & Embracing Our Fear

Facing & Embracing Our Fear

What I’ve learned over the past few decades, is that the only way to really come home to ourselves is to first walk through our fear. We must not only face it, but embrace it in order to move through into the deeper aspects of ourselves and return home to the lap of love and who we truly are as our Authentic Self.

Fear makes us uncomfortable, it’s scary, painful even, but it is the door we must walk through in order to find our way back home. And by home, I mean our true essence. Not our false personality nor our beliefs and identities that we built around our false beliefs.

But fear is not to be circumvented or even transcended. It must be embraced because it is in the embracing of our fears that we recognise that all fear is, is a scared child within us and all that child needs from us is our loving attention and a warm hug so that it no longer feels alone.

There are many forms of fear. In this episode I go into a few areas: primal/instinctual fear, emotional fear and energetic (frequency) fear. In order for us to return home to ourselves and in order for us as a collective to evolve and ascend, we must face and embrace our fear to reach the other side of light, love, harmony, peace and joy. To return home both as individuals and as a collective.

The light births itself from the dark. So if you want to find your light, you have to find the courage to walk through the dark first. It’s not as scary as you think. Your avoidance is the scary part. The relief comes when our fears feel less alone, when they are tended to with love and nurture. Then naturally, without any effort, our fears transform, transmute and sometimes even, vanish life a puff of smoke.

Transitions: Processing Your Past In Order To Move Into Your Future

Awakening & The Shadow

Awakening & The Shadow

There’s a process to awakening. First we must find the courage to look at the shadow within and around us, and the shadow is simply the parts that we don’t want to look at. The parts we deny, reject, abandon and hide away. But the shadow is the doorway, the portal, to our liberation and peace.

Once we move through our shadow, all our fears, pain, wounding, and learn to love it all—learn to love every corner of ourselves—then we come back home to who we truly are. And who we truly are, by the way, has always been there. We just forgot. Just as who we are is and will always be whole, we just feel ‘unwhole’ because we sever parts of ourselves from ourselves.

So awakening is not just about revealing the shadow, but about remembering who we truly are; which is incredibly powerful and totally magnificent. It goes beyond just being worthy, loveable and significant. It goes back to the very essence of who you are, which is an infinite, limitless being, made of love.

Right now we are going through a collective awakening. Seeing the shadow within and around us, and boy, isn’t there a lot of it!

Until we learn to include all parts of us, to stop denying and rejecting and fighting against ourselves creating an endless internal war, the world will reflect the same dynamic (as within so without) and history will repeat itself again and again. Because this is the school of life and we’re here to learn, grow and evolve.

Stop hating parts of yourself.
Stop hating others.
Come back to love and you will find home again.
Come back to love and you will change the world.

That is the true awakening.

The Courage To Change—Trusting Ourselves To Take The Risk

The Courage To Change—Trusting Ourselves To Take The Risk

Anything that we do entails a certain level of risk. There’s a risk in falling in love, moving to a different part of the world, starting a new job. The risk is stepping into the unknown, not knowing the outcome.

The illusion is that we can control the outcome. That we can control others. But we don’t have control of anything, really, other than the way we choose to respond to our experience.

When we want to create change in our lives, we have to be willing to take the risk to step into the unknown, to stretch ourselves beyond our comfort zone (which on a side note, our comfort zone might be familiar but it isn’t always serving us) and encourage ourselves to keep growing and evolving.

Change requires courage—courage to take that risk. Courage requires trust. Do we trust ourselves? Do we trust that we’ll be there for ourselves, without abandoning or rejecting ourselves, as we step into and through the unknown? Once we build trust we create the feeling of safety within us because safety is a state of being more than it is a space or a place. And once we feel safe, we find the courage to take the risk to create change.

It’s a spiralling in, to spiral back out again, kind of process.

Change is scary, whether it’s an external change, or an internal change like deciding to no longer play the old patterns, belief systems and habits that have kept us in a state of lack of self-worth. Either way, we are stepping into an unknown, learning to make different choices, showing up in new ways, all of which will support and create new outcomes.

Letting Go Of Resistance In Order To Create Change

Letting Go Of Resistance In Order To Create Change

Nothing changes when we are in a state of resistance and yet sometimes we have to go through the resistance state to clarify what it is that we want to change.

But in order for change to occur, we must stop resisting what is. We have to allow, accept and feel into what is happening right here, right now. Only then can we make a choice as to how we want to respond to our current reality. We have to stand on two feet first before we can take a step forwards.

This goes both for our external and internal world. So much of our suffering arises out of being in a state of tension because we don’t want this or that experience. We don’t want this feeling. We don’t want this situation. We don’t what is here to be this way, we want it to be that way, for example. But if you haven’t already noticed, it doesn’t really work does it? Resistance doesn’t change anything it just creates more suffering.

So if we want things to change, we have to stop fighting against ourselves and our current reality. We have to soften and find that point of relaxation that allows flow to come in which gives us that sense and feeling of moving forwards.

Sometimes we’ll be walking in the dark. We’ve got to learn to trust it.
Sometimes it will take a good long while before we can stop the resisting, because we might be undoing decades worth of habit, routine and patterning. Wherever you’re at is perfect. Begin there.

In this episode I go into the simple yet profound ways of letting go of resistance and allowing, instead. It comes down to choice and of course, awareness.

Needs: How To Fulfil Them Ourselves vs Expecting Others To

Needs: How To Fulfil Them Ourselves vs Expecting Others To

We all have needs but many of them are unconscious, stemming from childhood, and we play them out through our ‘reactive’ behaviour in relationship.

Needs are just a feeling that we require in a particular moment and situation. Unmet needs are a feeling we needed that we didn’t receive (most especially in childhood). The need could be for safety, validation, love, assurance, connection, truth worthiness…and so on. But when our needs are unconscious and we haven’t learnt yet how to give ourselves those needs, we expect others to fulfil them for us. We’re still playing out the child looking to its parent to fulfil the emotional need that wasn’t met in a moment of fear, confusion, aloneness. A moment when we didn’t feel loveable enough, significant enough or competent enough. When we needed presence and instead we were met with what might have felt like a vacancy and being left alone with an overwhelming experience.

Getting to know our deeper needs is a ‘peeling back the layers of the onion’ kind of process. We can start with our unconscious behaviour which normally shows up as reactivity. Then we go deeper and notice what is the emotion, the feeling, where are they coming from, what are they trying to express to us and what is the emotional need at the core.

This process is about building a conversation and creating a language with ourselves—our emotions, fears, triggers, beliefs, wounding etc. Once we have the language, we learn how to give ourselves what we need which almost always will be a feeling.

It’s a complex topic with so many layers but we can begin with small steps. Getting to know ourselves along the way, inviting our inner child to grow into the adult we are today, that is capable of meeting our own needs and learning how to communicate them with our partner; ultimately creating healthy, mature, secure relationships.

From Duality & Judgement To Wholeness & Compassion

From Duality & Judgement To Wholeness & Compassion

If we believe that there are parts of us that are good and parts of us that are bad, if we believe that certain emotions are positive and therefore ok to feel and others are negative and therefore should be gotten rid of, we are living in duality within ourselves.

When we’re in duality, we see things in black and white, good and bad, right and wrong and inevitably what that produces, is judgment.

When we judge parts of ourselves, we sever and fragment ourselves which is what makes us feel “broken” and less whole

But we’re not broken, just like we’re not unloveable or unworthy. We are innately whole, worthy and loveable. But through our pain, hurt, confusion, fear, abandonment etc, we began to store parts of us away in the shadow of our being, fragmenting our sense of wholeness and worse, finding ourselves in an inner conflict with parts of us we deem shameful, bad, or wrong.

Moving from duality and judgment to wholeness and compassion requires that we no longer exile parts of us away into the shadows. It requires us to embrace and heal our wounds and all that healing is, is loving our entire selves, most especially our sore spots.

In this episode I look at both the micro and the macro of how our inner duality and judgment gets reflected by the duality and judgment we see out in the world. And how though is may seem simple, how living from heart and embodying love, truly will change the world because heart and unconditional love simply cannot judge, destroy or hate without feeling the pain of doing so.

Living A Non-Linear Life: Cultivating Resilience, Endurance & Radical Trust

Living A Non-Linear Life: Cultivating Resilience, Endurance & Radical Trust

Life isn’t linear, but cyclical and sometimes squiggly. It isn’t a constant forward and upward moving line, either. It ebbs and flows. It travels across various terrains. Sometimes it’s easeful and we’re riding a nice, long wave to the shore, and in other moments it’s tempestuous.

Cultivating resilience and endurance is learning how to dance with life. Knowing that we’re in partnership with life, the Universe, God (choose your word). We’re co-creating this experience as we go along.

But if we get too rigid in our ideas that life ‘should’ and ‘has to’ go in a particular way, the 5 year plan, the 10 year plan, and then life all of a sudden doesn’t happen that way, we get easily thrown. We wonder what’s wrong. We question why. But life was never predictable, or controllable, or linear in the first place.

Radical trust starts with our relationship with ourselves. Building our unique language with ourselves, learning to listen and then learning to trust what we hear.

Navigating life is about bringing these three together: resilience, endurance, trust. Knowing that they a part of the dance, all of which require our presence, self-awareness and the willingness to flow with life rather than resist against it.

Tune in for more as I dive into what the inner work that we need to do is, how we can become our own obstacle, redefining the way we view life and the questions we can ask ourselves along the way.

How Stress & Anxiety Run Our Lives & Creating The Solution

How Stress & Anxiety Run Our Lives & Creating The Solution

Stress, anxiety, worry, fear, all have a way of taking up a lot of our time and vitality if we let them. But we often try to “deal” with these by masking the symptoms. We’re a Bandaid culture that doesn’t often like to take the time to go a little deeper into the core of WHY we feel stressed, anxious, worried or scared.

In this episode I talk about how stress plays out in our lives, how we tend to deal with it and how we can deal with—or, be with (listen to the full episode to see what I mean by this)—it, in a different more useful way.

We spend so much of our lives worrying about the future rather than being in the present with ourselves, cultivating a healthy relationship with ourselves and discovering that true inner peace isn’t dependent solely on the external but primarily on our state of mind and state of being.

“Stress isn’t what is happening to you, it’s how you are responding to what’s happening around you.”

Stress, therefore, is a mode of thinking, behaving and reacting to life’s circumstances. The good news is, we have “control” over our state of mind and being. It takes some discipline, courage, patience and compassion—we have to be willing to put in the work. But eventually, once we create a consistent daily practice, we’re no longer at the mercy—the tail wagging the dog—of our behaviour. The practice of being with our experience and showing up for ourselves with presence, becomes second nature and life becomes a lot more easeful.

How We Pretend: Coming Face To Face With Ourselves

You’re Not Your Personality But Why It’s Good To Get To Know It Well

You’re Not Your Personality But Why It’s Good To Get To Know It Well

*Correction: around 30 minutes what I meant to say is:” never has it felt bad to put my ego to the side and apologise when I was wrong. When I found humility and maturity. I think my brain thought I said it out loud but I don’t think the words came out that way! 😊. A lot of our suffering comes from the over identification with our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We believe we ARE them…but we’re not.

This human experience is a dance, a conversation, between the essence of who we truly are and the personality that gives us an identity as a person in this human experience.

Now that might sound far out, but the reason why it’s so useful to understand this, is that it creates enough space for you to be able to observe your personality, behaviour and all the thoughts and feelings that come with it, WITHOUT being run by them, or drowned by them or being taken for a ride by them.

We have to be willing to go inside. We have to be willing to observe, self-reflect and make the unconscious, conscious. Some might be thinking, “That’s a hell of a lot of work and it sounds kind of scary, why the hell would I do that?! Being “asleep” is so much easier, so much more comfy….”

Only it’s not.

Waking up to ourselves can feel challenging, confronting and like a lot of work, at first. But it really is the only path to freedom and peace. It is the way to feel the relief you’ve been seeking. Because all of a sudden we’re riding the wave vs being bashed around by it. All of a sudden we have hold of the reins, rather than being thrown around by an uncontrollable stallion.

This path of being human is a humbling one and the ego likes to put up a good fight. It likes to be “right.” But when we do the inner work and grow, when we can say in certain situations, “I’m sorry, I made a mistake, I was wrong,” we open our hearts, we create connection and we reside in a kind of “isness” that holds the pure truth of who we are. And from that place we emanate love more freely. We become the beings we have always been but only forgotten along the way.

Tools To Know Yourself Better: The Enneagram

Tools To Know Yourself Better: The Enneagram

I believe that the more we get to know ourselves, the more liberation, happiness, fulfilment and peace we create for ourselves.

When I was introduced to the Enneagram in my early/mid twenties, it gave me a context to understand myself more. I felt so relieved in a way, thinking, “Oh wow, I’m not the only one that feels this way?!” But more so, it helped me understand the underbelly of who I am. How to work with my shadow, understand what motivates me and how to take care of myself better, amongst many other gifts.

Tools such an the Enneagram are not meant to pigeonhole us but to help us understand who we are better so that we can grow, evolve and move more into who we truly are in the essence of our being.

The more we cultivate self-awareness and consciousness, the more we have to work with. It’s not about judging our personality- our quirks, foibles, fears, anxieties, needs, desires etc-but the exact opposite. It’s about embracing all parts of us as a means to come closer to who we truly are. To return back home within ourselves to the place, and being that we are, that is innately worthy, loveable and significant.

The Enneagram is a wonderful way to not only get to know ourselves better, but it helps us understand others better too. When we understand our differences, we are more able to be compassionate rather than judgmental. It can be incredibly helpful in relationship as well - sometimes a life and relationship saver!

In a world so at the ready to criticise one another for our differences, don’t you think it would be lovely to turn that around and create more compassion, instead?

Confidence & Self-Esteem: How Comfortable Are You Within Yourself?

Confidence & Self-Esteem: How Comfortable Are You Within Yourself?

Confidence isn’t something you acquire from the outside. Confidence naturally comes when you become comfortable within yourself, and in order to feel comfortable within yourself, you have to get comfy with the parts that make you feel uncomfortable.

That’s a mouthful!

You can say affirmations, sure. You can do things that make you feel good, sure. Ultimately though, confidence arises when we’ve learned to sit with our deeper discomfort: our fear, pain, sadness and wounding.

We’re flexing a new muscle when we “stay with” our experience. We’re building trust with ourselves when we stay without judgment or criticism. We’re showing ourselves that we’re trustworthy when we stay long enough that we recognise we’re not abandoning, rejecting or neglecting our inner most tender parts of ourselves.

When we get comfortable staying there, we’ll be far more comfortable in other situations, be it: dating, a job interview, being in a social group etc. If you’re comfortable within yourself no matter what arises, even if you feel terribly embarrassed, you’re going to begin to feel good within yourself because you won’t be resisting who you are. Instead, you’ll embrace who you uniquely are (quirks and all), allowing you to accept and inevitably love all parts of you and feel comfortable within your own skin. All this will lead you to feel confident and which in turn, will support you in showing up in life in more authentic, ‘true to you’ ways.

Why waste a life being someone that you’re not in order to impress someone that ultimately won’t be right for you? “A privilege of a lifetime, it to be who you truly are.” (Jung).

Triggers, Needs & The Messy Parts Of Being Human

Triggers, Needs & The Messy Parts Of Being Human

We don’t like to talk about the messy parts of being human because we’ve been taught and told to believe that there are “good” parts of us and “bad” parts of us—which is totally untrue. We’ve been told we need to be perfect, happy and positive all the time. That some emotions and states of being are positive and others are negative and to stay well away from the “negative” ones. But in doing so, we neglect, reject and abandon ourselves.

If we want to feel liberated and at peace with ourselves, we have to accept our entire humanity—messy parts included.

The only way out is through. Pain is the portal. Your triggers are the alert systems that are there to get your attention to turn towards yourself and go deeper within yourself to the places that are hurting and need your loving attention.

There is no human on this planet that doesn’t have triggers, insecurities, fears, needs, desires and tender places within themselves….We’re human and therefore we’re vulnerable and that’s totally ok.

The intention of doing the inner work is not to fix you because something is wrong with you, it’s to make the unconscious conscious so that you are no longer at the mercy of your triggers, limiting beliefs and wounds. We do the inner work so that we can respond rather than react and become the co-creators of our lives rather than the victim to our lives.

You’re not alone. There’s nothing wrong with you there’s only a story that perpetuates your suffering. So let’s talk about it so that we, together, can move through it and recognise along the way, that you are loveable, significant, worthy and perfect, just as you are.

Self-Awareness - Back to basics

Self-Awareness - Back to basics

Cultivating self-awareness is really the starting point to this journey of getting to know yourself. Without self-awareness we’re at the mercy of our lives and unconscious behaviours, which include our triggers, traumas, wounding, limiting self-beliefs etc. Without self-awareness we’ll continue to replicate the same patterns of behaviour, the same dynamics of relationship, not much will really change because we’re not in the driver’s seat of our lives. Life is happening to us instead of through us, as they say.

Think of it like this: You have been moving through life with a flashlight. You can only see as much as that flashlight illuminates within the narrow tunnel of light that it encompasses. Self-awareness is turning on the light. All of a sudden you see so much more of what is around you that was once in the dark. At first, yes, you will see all the clutter but at least now you have the choice to “clean it up” and make the space what you want it to be rather than remaining in the dark where you keep on bumping up and stubbing your toe on god knows what, but it bloody well hurts every time that you do!

Cultivating self-awareness is the first step to ultimately feeling free within yourself. You become the witness, the observer, of your experience and within that space between yourself and life, you get to choose how you respond (vs react) to life as it arises. Hopefully all of this is held in the container not just of awareness, but of love.
