Radical Butterfly Book Club

This week, we have a Name of the Week extravaganza before getting into the final chapter of Wretched of the Earth- Colonial War and Mental Disorders! 

It's a toughie, and we go talk pretty generally about the contents of the chapter, which includes brief discussions of sexual violence and torture. As always, we recommend that you read the book, but take this one carefully! It's a really valuable read but one that needs to be given space for whatever emotional responses that come up. We don't go into many specific details, so if you want to know more about the really fascinating cast studies Fanon references, you can read his work! 

We talk about race science and mental health oppression, colonisation, masculinity and sexual violence, and Orville Peck. 

Back at it again! This one went well I think. We tackle Chapter 4 of Fanon's The Wretched of the Earth, On National Culture, and apply it to things while we figure shit out. We're bi-weekly now btw!

We spend a lot of time reading really powerful parts of this chapter that speak for themselves, so, as always, we encourage you to read the book if you can! 

We also digress into talking about our experiences with organising and activism, share horror stories and set the scene for where we're coming from. 

This week we read Chapter 2 of Frantz Fanon's The Wretched of the Earth, Spontaneity: Its Strength and Weakness.
