Episode 2: Business Models for Circular Fashion

Episode 2: Business Models for Circular Fashion

This episode defines business models for circular fashion and explores a variety of strategies serving as inspiration for designers and entrepreneurs seeking to produce apparel while fostering the transition from a linear to a circular fashion economy. While some of these models might not entirely close the resource loop, they are instrumental in conserving materials, engaging consumers, and delaying textile waste as circular infrastructure scales to become more accessible. Despite the imperfection of these business models, they guide the reduction of waste across the Waste Hierarchy, by incorporating tactics such as: mending, upcycling, resale, compostable fibers, rental, virtual fashion, and designing for durability! We look forward to hearing your thoughts about which models you are most interested in and guests you would like to hear from on the show! This episode discusses the history of "linear," otherwise known as fast fashion. We explore the evolutionary advancements in fashion production and consumption as well as temporal changes in attitude dating back to the Industrial Revolution. Our hope is that by understanding the backstory of the current state of affairs in unsustainable fashion, we can avoid the mistakes of the past.
