Stephen Shafer (Moon Records, Duff Guide to Ska)
Episode 62 of the ReadJunk Podcast is with Stephen Shafer who worked at Moon Records for many years, started the excellent ska blog Duff Guide to Ska and last year released a book, Duff Guide to 2 Tone, which you can buy at Amazon.com now.
Steve was a pioneer, in a way, with starting a digital record label way before its time. Plus, he started the fun ska concert series Electric Avenue in Manhattan with Marc Wasserman. Not to mention he was a founding member of Rude Boy George. So it's safe to say we had a lot to talk about.
This episode is basically a 2-part episode so there was a lot to cover. We recorded this over 2 weeks and it was just a blast to talk with Steve. We discuss his latest book, the Moon Records days, his old digital label, Rude Boy George, Electric Avenue shows, the so-called "next wave" of ska and a lot more!
The transition track is "Don't Change" from Rude Boy George. Thanks for letting me use it!

Music, Politics, TV, Halloween Movies & More with Bryan, Chris, Joe and Ray
I figured I'd get the usual gang back for some catching up. We discuss the music industry and what's going on in the world of COVID-19. When it will be time to go back to shows, when will you feel comfortable going to shows again and things like that. They we venture into politics and discuss the upcoming election and mail-in ballots, mask wearing. We talk about politics in entertainment and how to separate the art from the artist. On more lighter topics, we talk about missing New York Comic Con this year, what are some TV shows and movies we have been watching and we finish things up discussing our go-to Halloween movies.
The transition track is called "Agridulce" by Guerrero from Los Aggrios (@yo.soy.guerrero) and The Zensies (@thezensies). You can check out the full track and purchase it over at Zensies Bandcamp page: thezensies.bandcamp.com/. Thanks to Robert Julian for sharing it with the show.

2020 Oscar Nominations with Bryan and Adam Coozer
We talk about the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards, 1917, Joker, Marriage Story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Jojo Rabbit, The Irishman, The Lighthouse, Toy Story 4 and of course it wouldn’t be a discussion without Adam bringing up Rush. Adam pays tribute to Neil Peart as well. We botch the Documentary categories since we never saw any of them so no respect to those categories. We also wonder why film editing is a thing, and how come the sound categories aren't just merged.
I’d love talking with Adam because he makes me laugh and we’ve always worked well with each other so I hope you enjoyed this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it. If you stay until the end of the episode, congrats!
The transition track done is by Vibe Mountain and it’s called “Great Hope.” I also used the following track below for a bit of intermission music. I got both tracks on YouTube Audio Library. "Busybody" by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license.

A Look Back At The Vans Warped Tour
I'm joined by fellow ReadJunk colleague Joe Fogle / Creature of War and we reminisce about the good and bad of the Warped Tour, our first Warped Tour concert, things we will miss but mostly won't miss, and other things like that. Right at the end, Joe and I talk about random things like other shows of the Summer, DC / Batman movies, and New York Comic Con.
*correction department* I mentioned in the episode that The Fugees played Warped Tour. I meant Black Eyed Peas.
