Real Life Boxing #20 - Frank Gilfeather
In this episode we have the honour of speaking to the legendary Frank Gilfeather.
Frank Gilfeather (born 30 December 1945, Lochee, Dundee, Scotland) is a Scottish journalist and broadcaster. Gilfeather, a former Scottish amateur boxing champion from Dundee, moved to Aberdeen in April 1969 and began work on the Press & Journal and the Evening Express as a general news reporter. Later, when personnel was allocated to each paper, he was a news reporter on the P&J for some years before moving to the evening newspaper's sports desk as chief sportswriter and deputy sports editor.
His broadcasting career began in 1980 with the launch of the Grampian Television (now STV North) regional news programme, North Tonight. Gilfeather joined the programme as a sports correspondent although he would later also work on news coverage. As well as reporting for North Tonight, Gilfeather fronted the North Tonight spin-off Summer at Six and popular local quiz show Top Club which ran for nine years. He also worked on general election coverage for ITN and has been featured in out-takes on LWT's It'll be Alright on the Night.
Gilfeather also fronted STV and Grampian TV's shinty highlights coverage between the mid-1980s and early-1990s, for which the shinty matches were simiculast on both channels throughout this time.

Nathaniel Collins has held the British featherweight title since March 2023 and the Commonwealth featherweight title since 2021. Collins made his professional debut on 6 October 2018, scoring a four-round points decision (PTS) victory against Lee Connelly at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley, Scotland. After compiling a record of 5–0 (1 KO), he faced Monty Ogilvie for the vacant Celtic featherweight title on 5 October 2019, at the Lagoon Leisure Centre. Collins scored five knockdowns en route to a fifth-round technical knockout (TKO) victory to capture his first professional championship. After a PTS victory against Jordan Ellison in a non-title fight in January 2021, Collins faced Felix Williams for the vacant Commonwealth featherweight title on 31 July at the New Douglas Park in Hamilton, Scotland. Kash is a Pakistani-born Scottish professional boxer. He held the British bantamweight title from 2018 to 2019 and challenged once for the Commonwealth bantamweight title in 2019.Ukashir Farooq, known by friends and family as "Kash", was born on 3 January 1996 in Gujranwala, Punjab, Pakistan. One of three brothers, he and his family immigrated to England and applied for asylum in 2002, initially living in London before being relocated to Glasgow, Scotland. He first entered a boxing gym in 2010 after being invited by a friend. In an interview with The Herald, Farooq recalled: "I wasn’t interested in boxing at the start" and "...the trainer saw me hitting a few bags and asked me to come back. I came back and did some sparring and it just continued from there. Now I love boxing."Farooq made his professional debut on 25 October 2015, winning a four round points decision over Craig Derbyshire at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow.
After winning his first seven fights, he challenged Scott Allan for the British Scottish Area bantamweight title on 23 November 2017 at the Radisson Blu Hotel. Farooq won via eighth-round technical knockout (TKO).On 27 September 2018, he faced Jamie Wilson at the St. Andrew’s Sporting Club in Glasgow. Farooq scored a TKO victory 73 seconds into the first round to capture the vacant British bantamweight title, becoming the first Scottish boxer in 21 years to do so.The first defence of his British title came on 30 November 2018, against Iain Butcher at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow.
Farooq retained his title with a unanimous decision over twelve rounds.He defended his title for the second time on 25 April 2019, against undefeated Kyle Williams at the Radisson Blu Hotel, winning via fifth-round TKO.On 17 August 2019, Farooq beat Duane Winters by first-round knockout (KO) at the Radisson Blu Hotel to retained his British bantamweight title.On 16 November 2019, he challenged Commonwealth bantamweight champion Lee McGregor at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow. Farooq lost a highly disputed and controversial split decision in which many felt Farooq should have been the clear victor.

David Brophy made his professional debut in February 2011 defeating James Tucker on points in Wishaw, Scotland.
On 17 March 2017 Brophy beat Zac Dunn by TKO in the seventh round and won the Commonwealth (British Empire) super middleweight title.
On 27 November 2019 Brophy announced his retirement from professional boxing, following advice from doctors regarding a prevalent eye issue.

From 1995 - 1997 Tom studied Journalism, Media and Communications at Bell College. Since then he has risen up the ranks of Boxing journalism before becoming Managing Editor of Ring Magazine in 2012, a role in which he is still present.

Real Life Boxing #1 - Stephen Simmons
We're honoured to have fellow Scot, Former International Amateur & Professional Boxer Stephen Simmons as our very first guest on our premier interview. We discuss his career highlights and how boxing has shaped his life.
Stephen Simmons started boxing aged 12 and fought his entire Amateur Career out of renowned Scottish Amateur Boxing Club Leith Victoria AAC, being coached by his Uncle Kenny who boxed for Scotland at Middleweight. He won numerous trophies throughout Europe since 2004, having around 115 Amateur contests winning approximately 80 of them. Simmons competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, winning the Bronze Medal in the 91 kg Heavyweight Division. According to Boxrec, in October 2016, Simmons was ranked 5th in the UK and 46th in the World at Cruiserweight level. On 27 June, 2014, Simmons battled against Noel Gevor in Hamburg, Germany. Simmons was aggressive throughout the fight, while Gevor boxed well, but neither fighter looked like they did enough to win the rounds by a clear margin. In the end, it was a very close fight, and the judges scored it 116-112 twice for Gevor, and 116-113, awarding Gevor the split-decision win. On 17 March, 2018, Simmons fought Matty Askin for the vacat British cruiserweight belt. Simmons was outmatched by Askin, losing the fight in the second round via TKO. In April 2018, Simmons announced that he is retiring from the sport of boxing.
