This week we talk about Mary Wollstonecraft and her speech called “A Vindication of the Rights of Women” in response to 18th century Enlightenment (male) thinkers and philosophers who did not support female liberation. In this speech, she pushed for women to fight forced domesticity. We also talk about our obsessions of the week and do a mini recap of our Arizona trip.

In honor of Black History Month, we are discussing Henrietta Lacks this week. Her immortal HeLa cells have contributed to countless medical discoveries. However, her cells were harvested without her knowledge and consent. Listen to this episode to learn more about her story! 

This week we are talking about the anti-trans bills introduced and passed in 2023. As a reminder, please respect everyone’s preferred pronouns because it has absolutely nothing to do with you and everyone wants their gender identity to be validated :)

This week we sit down with published author, Jennifer Banash. She is a former professor of English and creative writing. She is the author of Silent Alarm, a finalist for the American Library Association’s Best Fiction for Young Adults, White Lines, Simply Irresistible, In Too Deep, and The Elite. Jennifer is also the former co-founder and editor of Impetus Press, a small independent publishing house that championed works of literary fiction with a pop edge. Her latest novel, The Rise and Fall of Ava Arcana was on amazon first read, garnering over 2K reviews. 

We talk about the importance of female friendships, writing stories that do not revolve around a male love interest, Jennifer’s journey as an author, and her experience in the publishing industry.

This week we talk about consent, how society defines sex, how we can use more inclusive language around sex, being empowered in your sexual health, advocating for yourself, and setting boundaries. 

We speak very generally, but the examples we give are common situations. We just want everyone to engage in safe sex and only do what you’re comfortable with! Respect yourself enough to reflect on what sex means to you and set boundaries accordingly

This week we are talking about purity culture. We talk about how damaging purity culture is, specifically in the Mormon church, for survivors of sexual abuse, how there is no space for those in the LGBTQ+ community, and the different standards the Mormon church, and many organized religions, have for men and women. We share our personal experiences with purity culture and working through sexual repression and talk about how helpful therapy can be when working through sexual repression. We also talk about the books we’re currently reading and how our growing to be read lists are stressing us out. This week’s feminist highlight is a company called Mawadda, a female-founded company that has launched their product, the “Hygienic Hijab”.

This week we sat down with Sabine Gideon, Founder of Gedeon Enterprises, LLC. She is an entrepreneur, leadership consultant, speaker, and executive coach. She is the founder of She Leads Network and the host of the podcast She Leads Now. She is passionate about helping leaders and individuals tap into their unique brilliance and align with their highest values and potential. Her book, LeadHership Reloaded, just released where she talks about gender diversity in leadership, specifically the gender imbalance we see in organizations and their leadership.

Both Heather and Katie are dedicated athletes who have health and fitness degrees and certifications and industry experience. In this episode we talk about toxic messaging aimed at women in the fitness industry, tips for women wanting to start their personal fitness journey, and how they began their careers in a male-dominated industry.
