Shane Warne Memories with Jon Norman
This episode is about Shane Warne. It kind of had to be, right? I thought about doing an emergency podcast, but I didn't know how I would do it, would it just be me on my own, trying to emotionally process it all? And then my friend Jon Norman said why don't we do a podcast where we just chat about him until we run out of things to say. So here it is, two friends talking about Shane Warne for a very long time. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Cricket Scouting with Ronan Alexander
This episode we look at something slightly new to cricket, scouting. And in order to do that, I only went and found someone who started their own cricket scouting magazine, Ronan Alexander. On this episode, we look at a few different talented players, but really what we’re doing is breaking down how we need to look at cricket going forward. Where players fit in, what their skill sets are, not specifically batter bowl or rounder, but where they can be used in different kinds of games. The Rise of Women's Domestic Cricket with Izzy Westbury
Watching the first match of the Hundred, it occurred to me that the standard of women’s cricket had improved so much that it barely registered this was a domestic game. On this chat we talk about the little changes in the women's game, what drawbacks professionalism has, gender pay gap, growing new markets, how the athleticism has changed, and why women's cricket has improved so much that Izzy wouldn't get a game anymore. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. In this episode we talk about the many similarities of the two scandals, the reactions, the hatred for the teams, how so few people were punished, what happens when standard cheating crosses the imaginary line to moral outrage, how funny they both were and we compare Faf Du Plessis to the Boston Red Sox. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Why Indians Don’t Bat Left-Handed with Nathan Leamon
This episode we talk about why Indians don’t bat left-handed. And so why not get on someone who has just written a book on this, with that as his very title. Nathan Leamon and Ben Jones have written a book called Hitting Against the Spin, and it’s basically the book you need to understand how cricket is currently played. But I got Nathan on to talk about the history of left-handers, anticipation skills, why off spinners are good, LBWs, umpires, outswing, and why left-handers were better against seam than spin. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Brad Hodge On Why You Shouldn't Bat At 4
Batting at four in a T20 match is a horrible position, so I found someone who had batted pretty much everywhere in T20 cricket, but spent most of his time at that hell position. Brad Hodge was in the first T20 match, won the first title, and then played it up until a few years ago when he stated coaching and commentating on it. But he stuck with cricket, and that seems to have gone pretty well. DRS has changed how umpires make decisions, how TV companies look at the game and how batsmen bat. Aasif Karim- The Mombasa Lion Slayer
This episode of Red Inker is on one of cricket’s most remarkable spells by the man who bowled it, Aasif Karim. In 2003 I was backpacking around the World Cup, and we headed to Durban for the Kenya vs Australia match. We really didn’t expect much, as good as Kenya had been in the tournament, no one expected them to put up such of a fight against Australia. Brett Lee started with a hat-trick, Kenya limped to a sub-par total, and then Adam Gilchrist hit Kenya’s best bowlers out of Kingsmead. The match was heading for an obvious result when what looked like a middle-aged insurance broker came on to bowl. And what followed was extraordinary, as the world’s best team were stopped dead in their tracks by a man who had played a lifetime already, and who no one had noticed. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Loving Pankaj Singh with Subash Jayaraman
This episode of Red Inker is where I get in a cricket podcast legend Subash Jayaraman to interview me. He wanted to talk about my love of Pankaj Singh, the Indian seamer. This is more than just Pankaj though, it’s about how we obsess over lovable losers. They guys who didn’t quite make it, they guys who did but left quick, the hard luck stories and grinders. We talk about other guys like Jamie Siddons, Mark Ramprakash, S Badrinath and Bryce McGain. We talk about the reason why these sorts of players stay with us, and also a little bit on Pankaj’s nipples. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Comebacks with Geoff Lemon
This episode of Red Inker we talk about the incredible English summer of 2019, when Steve Smith and Ben Stokes erased all previous faux-pas by being really good at cricket. So I got in someone who wrote a book called The Comeback Summer about the entire thing, Geoff Lemon. We look at what fans and media think, how these stories and narratives are constructed. Should Warner have scored more runs in the Ashes for extra love? Would Cameron Bancroft be better at redemption if he was better at cricket? Has being really good at the sport he was really good at shown us something about the moral character of Ben Stokes? And is Steve Smith an amorphous dumpling? - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Why Are Mumbai So Good with Ben Jones
This episode on Red Inker we’re talking about the greatest T20 franchise in the world, the Mumbai Indians. I got in one of those T20 number guys you hear so much about, Ben Jones. Like me, he’s worked for a few T20 teams around the world now, and is an expert in T20 trends, so both of us looked at why Mumbai is just so much better than every other IPL team. Benny Howell is Cricket’s Different Bowler
A returning episode of Red Inker, in a special slot to help highlight a special guy. Benny Howell has gotten a start for the Melbourne Renegades in this years' Big Bash, and we wanted to help highlight his brilliance and help you keep an eye on him during the tournament! Today we have a T20 cricketer who in the last five years has the 4th best average and 4th best economy rate. Benny comes on to talk about his weird career so far, how he’s been overlooked despite his record, how baseball changed everything and what part his ADHD has played in him becoming the player he is. Coming from a nation that prior to him few really took any notice of, he took his small island and made them a force in International cricket. So I brought on Andrew Fidel Fernando to chat about him. This episode we focus on the last four years of cricket governance in South Africa. It’s sexier than it sounds, because a lot of weirdness has occurred. When Firdose Moonda wasn’t busy applying for cricket South Africa jobs and eating free sandwiches, she’s been as bemused, and angry, as anyone with what is happening with cricket in South Africa. The Fast Career of Duncan Spencer with Jacob Kuriype
Chances are you don’t know much about Duncan Spencer, and that’s because he only played 16 First Class matches across 13 years. But there is a reason people still whisper about him… Spencer was fast. And so I got Jacob Kuriype to come on and chat about this very fascinating player, who in his brief career he came up against Justin Langer in a locker room tussle, Ricky Ponting in a mid-pitch altercation, dismissed Kumar Sangakkara as his last wicket and roughed up Viv Richards in his last professional match. Oh, and Spencer was the first Australian cricketer suspended for using PEDs. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Meg Lanning’s Quest For Greatness with Annesha Ghosh
Meg Lanning is in her prime, bats like no one I’ve ever seen, and can seemingly hit a ball through point with seven fielders there. But she’s also a fascinating cricketer in where she fits in for Australia and the women’s game. She’s a Ricky Ponting acolyte, and a daughter of the professional game in Australia. And Annesha Ghosh is the perfect person to come on to talk about how Meg Lanning is great, and how she still aspires to be greater. Mark Coles: The Ice Cream Coach
This is a special episode of Red Inker. It touches on some deep stuff about alcoholism, depression and suicide, but I think it’s an incredible story and one that will make you feel a little better about the world in the end. This chat covers the life of Mark Coles, growing up as a child of cricket, become a coach, struggling with life, and then one day on a whim, contacting Mickey Arthur and offering to coach the Pakistan women’s team.
