The Role of Pulsed Radiofrequency Energy for Treatment of Pain

The Role of Pulsed Radiofrequency Energy for Treatment of Pain

Presented by Dr. Ravi Mirpuri.  A discussion on the use of pulsed radiofrequency energy for the treatment of a variety of pain conditions.  Lecture discusses Provant electromagnetic energy and how it can be used for pain.  Dr. Mirpuri specializes in Pain Management and practices in Naples, Florida. He graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine with his medical degree in 2011.  He completed a fellowship at the University of Nebraska, and residency at the University of California Irvine, which is affiliated with The Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Long Beach.  He has background in the research of pulsed radiofrequency.  He is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine.  Dr. Mirpuri is both board certified in Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Adhesive Arachnoiditis: Identification, Treatment and Management of Inflammatory Pain

Adhesive Arachnoiditis: Identification, Treatment and Management of Inflammatory Pain

Presented by Forest Tennant, MD, MPH, DrPH.  Learn about the often-misunderstood diagnosis of adhesive arachnoiditis.  We’ll discuss this complex neuroinflammatory disease of the spinal canal covering (arachnoid) and the lumbar spinal cord nerve roots (cauda equina).  In other words, two different body parts abnormally “glue” together by adhesions.  Pulsed Electromagnetic Energy (PEMF) will be presented as a treatment option, including results of a randomized, controlled trial for patients in pain after lumbar surgery.  Dr. Tennant is an internist and addictionologist who has spent his medical career researching and treating intractable pain.  He managed the Veract Intractable Pain Clinics in West Covina, California, from 1975 (originally focused on cancer pain and post-polio disease) to 2018.  Dr. Tennant served as the editor-in-chief of Practical Pain Management from 2007 through 2017 and continues to hold an Emeritus honor with the journal.  Today, he leads the Tennant Foundation and its Arachnoiditis Research and Education Project.  Dr. Tennant is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the Academy of Integrative Pain Management, the American Pain Society, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.  He has authored over 300 scientific articles and books.   He formerly served as a Medical Officer in the US Army and US Public Health Service, and was a consultant to the FDA, National Institute on Drug Abuse, and Drug Enforcement Administration, as well as to the LA Dodgers, National Football League, and NASCAR.

Using Electromagnetic Energy to Improve Physical Therapy and Rehabilitative Therapy Care

Presented by Tiziano Marovino, DPT, MPH.  Using pulsed electromagnetic field energy (PEMF), a form of non-thermal shortwave therapy for pain management.  Correlate the clinical outcomes typically seen when PEMF is applied during clinical applications.  Incorporate objective measures and tracking processes into clinical practice to improve outcome evaluations.  Dr. Marovino is a Doctor of physical therapy, holds graduate degrees in Epidemiology/Biostatistics and clinical kinesiology, and is Chief of Health Strategy and Innovation at the Biogenesis Group, a disease management and senior human performance research center in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  He performs clinical research in the areas of health economics, outcome measurement, and population health. He is an adjunct faculty member at several colleges including the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, where he teaches differential screening in the DPT program. He also teaches Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at other colleges and completing a research PhD in exercise science at Concordia University.  Dr. Marovino is an executive advisor to the journal Practical Pain Management and serves as their pain device expert.
