Being relentless certainly takes facing many changes. You are not alone if you have certain anxieties and fears when faced with change. Change pushes us out of our comfort zones and boy do we like to be comfortable. In this episode, we share our 6 most valuable tips for overcoming the fear of change. We hope they will help you to champion your next challenge.

Our 6 C-H-A-N-G-E Tips

C - Control negative thoughts -

stop judging yourself harshly - don’t fixate on what will be lost by making the change - it will prevent you from seeing the good possibilities.

Learn to change your mindset to one that embraces positivity through meditation and practicing gratitude.

· Writing your negative thoughts down, creating an affirmation for each will help to quiet the inner noise.

H - Have confidence in yourself -

believe in yourself - love yourself - believe that you have the competence to handle change - find your anchor - the core of you will not change.

Learn to connect with an inner wisdom and strength that exists within all of us if you are willing to listen.

· This can be difficult when it has not been a norm or habit for you. Take baby steps by creating 5 daily affirmations that uplift you. You don’t have to believe them at first but consistently practicing them will produce tremendous positive results.

A - Allow yourself to freak out -

feel the fear - cry, shout, pout - whatever -

this will allow you to process the emotions associated with the change -

If you don’t process your emotions you’ll feel isolated from everything associated with the change - it helps you understand that what you are feeling is normal

· Scream, shout, BREAK something inexpensive if necessary. LOL Give yourself a set time frame to freak out and then get on with your plan.

N - Narrate your own story -

let go of perceived societal expectations - go with the flow.  Life doesn’t give you a manual.

· Living our true story creates freedom. Give yourself permission to reposition.

G - Go nuts -

Invite excitement in -

Get out of your rut. By doing something crazy (preferably that is not life threatening)

· Do something different. Treat yourself. Take you to the spa, enjoy a staycation, take you to the movies or the coffee shop and just sit, relax, release and be rejuvenated.

E - Evaluate what you are feeling -

sometimes the feelings of fear are a signal that something exciting is entering your world.

get clarity about why the change is necessary be clear on what issues you will own.

Hello Out There! Changes Up Ahead. Why We Fear Change Explained

Hey you. We want you to know that you are NOT alone. We all experience some level of fear when faced with changes even at the most minute level. In this episode, we will discuss why we fear change and shed some light on a few ways to overcome it. We are so glad to have you on this journey with us to find triumph in business and our personal lives.

8 Reasons we fear change

1.  Change is risky. When your brain senses risk your defence mechanism kicks in.

2.  Uncertainty is more stressful than predictable negative outcomes. We’d rather face predictable negative outcomes than face uncertainty and risk that something good could happen.

3.  The unknown is scary. Change is all about moving into the unknown.  Fear causes unclear and irrational thinking and behavior.

4.  Your brain hates loss - especially when you have an emotional investment - you don’t want to lose all the time and effort that you’ve already exerted.

5.  Your brain wants a steady as she goes life.  Change challenges the info stored in your brain - trust is broken - any change that is inconsistent with your core beliefs will be scary and stressful

6.  We’re so afraid of what others will think we’re afraid to try.  Your brain convinces you that people will judge you and your decisions regarding the change you are making.

7.  Your brain may tell you stories.  You may fear that you won’t survive and thrive -  You become convinced that the lies your brain is telling you are truths.

8.  We equate change with mistakes.  If you're considering a change then everything you've been doing up to now must be a mistake - not true - another lie that your brain has concocted to protect you and keep you in your comfort zone.  

Take Away - Remember that your brain is trying to protect you from danger.  It perceives anything outside of your comfort zone as something it needs to fight or run away from.  

YOU ARE YOUR BEST ASSET. Any change that may increase your joy and allow you to live your BEST life is worth a chance. Embrace the change.

OUT WITH THE OLD: CREATING HABITS FOR YOUR BEST YEAR YET

New year, new goals. Oftentimes, we find that we have habits that just no longer serve us well. In this episode, we share habits that can help to create your BEST year yet. Everyone wants to live the best expression of themselves. Have some new goals, desires, and dreams? These habits will help you to get steps closer to achieving them.

Our top 8 tips for forming new habits.  

1.  Start by creating a vision board for 2022. Dream big. Be BOLD. Have CRAZY Faith especially when it comes to believing in you

2.  Remember – Avoid inviting frustration to your vision by being realistic and aim for things you know you can achieve and establish a plan that is doable.

3.  Use mini resolutions instead.

4.  Repetition and a trigger to act on the new habit are key.

5.  Reward yourself

6.  If you’re trying to break a bad habit – learn to practice the STOP

S - Stop

T - Take a breath

O - Observe your behaviour, thoughts and emotions without judgment – what are they telling you – are you bored, stressed, angry etc

P - Proceed – make the best choice in the moment – walk away from the temptation and listen to music, stretch or move in a way that relieves tension, take a minute to observe your breathing etc.

7.  Make small changes to your environment that will support the formation of a new habit.

8.  Plan for slip ups and failures but forgive yourself

How to Stop Stinking Thinking aka - Controlling Your Negative Thoughts

Does your inner voice always have something negative to say? Do you often find yourself anxious, depressed, or stalled in your ability to achieve your goals, simply because of the words you say to yourself? You probably suffer as we have with , "Stinking Thinking, " It is time to drop-kick it, punt it, and kick it to the curb. In this episode, we explore ways to overcome that negative chatterbox. Let's triumph together.

What generates stinking thinking –

  • natural brain process to keep you safe (flight or fight instinctsl
  • lack of self confidence
  • Fear of making a mistake

Controlling Stinking thinking -

Get to know your negative voice or chatterbox – name it, make friends with it – this helps you become aware of when it is influencing your thinking

The STOP method of controlling stinking thinking – once you are aware of your negative voice the next step is to develop some sort of stop mechanism – can be verbal (say STOP!) – can be more physical – snap an elastic around your wrist, get up and walk around, take some deep cleansing breaths

Recognize that these are just thoughts – not necessarily reality

Make friends with your negative emotions – if you are sad, be sad – you have a right to your feelings but also try to change your focus from the sad feelings by looking for something more positive to focus on – be sad while you do something that you enjoy – walking in nature, creating a great meal, being artistic or crafty – these activities will start creating feel good hormones to replace the feel bad hormones

Develop an attitude of gratitude

Volunteer

Talk to someone – be social – not endlessly scrolling FB or IG feeds – this won’t help – make direct contact with someone

Nurture yourself/ self care – take care of your physical needs – sleep/nutrition/hydration

Build your self confidence –

  • Focus on values, strengths, wins, learning
  • Envision success
  • know how to be true about themselves and what is working well already.
  • Realistically assess your strengths to develop a really motivating action plan
  • Remember and relive your accomplishments – self affirmations
  • Power poses
  • Willing to take calculated risks – step out of you comfort zone – push the boundaries
  • Aim for mastery or best you can - not perfection

It is so easy for us to lavishly sing the praises of others and share compliment after compliment with them. However, it is a struggle for us to receive praise or accept compliments for ourselves. Why is this? During this episode, we discuss a few answers to this simple but power-packed question. You are definitely worthy of praise. We think you are a Rock Star! Listen to this episode and find out how to receive your praise.

Why is it so difficult to accept praise?

Self esteem issues (you might think the person is lying)

Self image doesn’t line up with the compliments – there is dissonance between what you believe about yourself and what you hear

You’re uncomfortable with big expectations – low self worth – like to set the bar low – self doubt creeps in and you become afraid that you can’t live up to the expectations of the compliment – imposter syndrome

Women are conditioned to be likeable so accepting a compliment may feel like you are confident in your skills etc – you may believe that displaying your confidence is threatening other people

You want to be humble – accepting a compliment may feel like bragging

How to respond?

Resist the urge to belittle yourself

Downplaying the compliment may actually cause the other person to feel rejected.

Avoid a compliment battle

Share credit where credit is due

Express gratitude

A simple thank you

Remember to smile

Emotional contagion is real. Knowing that someone else’s negativity can affect you and breed negativity in you is helpful.

Learn to recognise when this is happening (you feel frustrated, angry or drained of energy) and then try some of these techniques:

  • Remind yourself that you alone have control over your positive mindset and you alone can control how much of their negativity you wish to absorb.
  • Touch base with the person more frequently but in shorter intervals. Frequent, shorter interactions are much easier to manage than infrequent long conversations that can really go down the rabbit hole of depression and negativity.
  • Make a conscious effort to control your breath and clear your mind of any negative feelings you may have about their neediness and depression before the interaction even starts. Try and  see the good in the person.
  • Match your breathing to theirs, which is likely rapid. Once you’ve achieved this, slow your own breathing. This will help the other person’s breathing slow down. (natural human mimicry)
  • Go into the conversations when your energy levels are high enough that they can be drained a bit without harming your own mental stability.
  • Approach them with a compassionate, empathic heart and mind. What causes them to be this way? But please remember: Compassion does not equal advice about changing their negative behaviour or lecturing them about their negativity.
  • Remember this, too: you are not helping yourself or them if you feed into their pain.
  • Offer a compassionate ear for as long as you can and then try to change the subject to something totally unrelated.
  • Remind them of things that make them happy before they can throw their negative energy your way. You are more apt to want to boost them up if you haven’t allowed them to bring you down.
  • Use humour to lighten the mood and distract from the negative energy.
  • Smile, because emotional contagion can be positive and happy, too.
  • End the interaction gently as soon as you start feeling your own positive energy draining. Lovingly disconnect and remember you can’t help them at all if you don’t maintain your own positive mindset.

If you feel a lot of negativity in your workplace, try some of the techniques we’ve discussed but also surround yourself with things that bring you joy: photos of your family and friends can help, or momentos.  Make your work space a happy place to escape.  

If your friend is always doing the Debbie Downer Dance, remember some of the techniques discussed above but also, ask yourself what you are getting out of the relationship. - Do they fulfil a need in you to be a caretaker? - Does it boost your ego by allowing you to feel like you are better than them?  These can be hard questions to answer, but answering them honestly will help you decide if you need to perhaps part ways.  You need to decide if allowing the constant negativity is worth the friendship or not.  Look for positive reasons to remain in the friendship or take a break from the negative contagion associated with the friendship.

If you spend a lot of your spare time doom scrolling or glued to the 24 hour news feed take a break from the constant barrage of bad news.  Limit your time spent in these activities.  Replace those activities with self care acts that boost your positivity.

TOP 5 Financial Self Care Tips

1. Evaluate where you are financially- Not knowing can cause anxiety, fear and depression. Take inventory of current debt (Total amount due, monthly amount due) followed by total monthly income. Subtract debt from income and this will give you an idea of where you stand. Note: If you are in the positive, do you need to make changes. If you are in the negative, major changes will need to be made (home, car, extracurricular activities, private school, etc).

2. Give yourself permission to reposition- It’s ok to not follow the crowd in spending or presenting a picture that is financially false. Exit Strategies of grace.

3. Control what you can- Even if you have a mate who is not agreeable with debt reduction, control the part that you can.

4. Establish your plan. Determine your obstacles and ways to overcome them before you implement.

5. Allow yourself treats in your plan. There are 4 Ds to success. Desire, Decision, Dedication and Discipline.
