Popular charismatic/Pentecostal preacher TD Jakes has been implicated as a regular friend of music producer Sean Combs and a participant in the infamously deviant parties he was known to throw and host. He has denied all allegations, but the accusation alone is enough to send shockwaves through the country, since he has a following number in the millions. What should Christians make of the allegations? Should we even care about it if we believe that he is a false teacher? In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we address these question and many underlying ones. If you ask any sound preacher about TD Jakes, they would caution you from consuming his content or sitting under his preaching, but because he has a massive reach, perhaps the argument could be made that the allegations sully the name of Christ in the eyes of the world. Parents across the globe differ in age, culture, faiths, political allegiance, and personal standards, but they would generally agree that we must protect our children from any threat. We are to protect them from dangerous situations and dangerous people (including themselves!) but today, a mutated threat has emerged with breakneck speed and incredible complexity: social media. It is many things at once: useful and useless, helpful and detrimental, empowering and enslaving. Such is the concern about this technology that in late January of 2024, U.S. lawmakers grilled the CEOs of the most popular social media platforms to discover what can be done to protect vulnerable children from its malicious capabilities. On this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we will discuss a portion of this senate judiciary hearing. Does the Bible have anything to say on the subject, or is it too old and unrelatable? How can we protect ourselves and our children from the often corrosive effects of social media? Episode 157

In early 2024, Moms for Liberty representative Tiffany Justice sat down with MSNBC's Joy Reid to discuss the so-called book bans taking place in schools across the country, mostly in response to the shocking discovery that there are books in the libraries and media centers of public K-12 schools that contain explicit descriptions and depictions of sexual activities and violence. In almost all cases, the content is not only explicit, but also vulgar. Moms for Liberty claims to be merely raising awareness and empowering parents to fight back at the local level, but the likes of Joy Reid and Pen America are accusing them of banning books and attacking freedom of speech and expression. Are these accusations true? What is Moms for Liberty really all about? Is the concern about questionable content in these books overblown or politicized? If Moms for Liberty are as successful in book banning as the likes of Joy Reid think they are, should we stop them? Is book banning the appropriate course of action in a country that has freedom of speech, of expression, of religion, and of association enshrined in its Constitution? The Marine Corps has a scholarship and professional military education program that teaches participants how to implement feminist and DEI values in the upper echelons of decision-making and warfighting. Judges impose rulings to either murder babies or deny the pursuit of potentially life-extending medicine for terminally ill babies. Various outbreaks in select countries evoke fear of another round of draconian government responses as we recently experienced during COVID-19. Join us on this episode as we discuss these headlines, realizing that though this world is indeed bonkers, there is no reason for Christians to fear because the king's heart is in our God's hand.

In early October of 2023, the terrorist group Hamas launched an attack on Israel via land and air that took the nation by surprise. Thousands of Israeli civilians were brutally killed, tortured, or taken hostage. The entire globe has very strong opinions about it one way or another, but one of the most disturbing developments is the blatant support for Hamas coming from many on the left here in the United States. Why is that? Many Christians around the world believe this attack has End Times significance. Why is that? What is the history of this conflict, and how must it be evaluated through a biblical lens? Did you know that according to our bonkers world, the Bible is no different from Mein Kampf and is filled with bad and hateful speech like the word "sin?" Or that over three years after the domestic terrorism Black Lives Matter unleashed on the country, some people are only NOW realizing how much of a scam the movement is? What about a 22 year old woman who hated the idea of showering so much that she stabbed her grandfather in the face when he encouraged her to go take a shower? It seems that whenever there is an interaction between a white police officer and a black person, the question of race and/or police brutality inevitably comes up. In some instances, it is the first thing that comes up. Should this be the case in our society? On August 24, 2023, a 21-year old woman named Ta'Kiya Young was shot and killed by police after having been accused of shoplifting liquor from a local grocery store. What makes this story noteworthy by today's standards is that she was black, unarmed, and pregnant at the time of her interaction with the police and subsequent death. Was the shooting racially motivated? Did the officer have the legal or moral grounds to open fire? What about her family and protestors who insist the officer be indicted and brought to justice swiftly? Episode 135

A viral video captured by one of the investigative journalists at TimCast shows an LGBTQIA+ march in which participants chant "We're here, we're queer, we're coming for your children!" It has served as a lightning rod for parents of all political and religious stripes to stiffen resolve and take action against this particular agenda. Supporters doubled down, insisting it was taken out of context just as when the San Francisco Gay Chorus sang it two years ago. Others allege the chant was the product of an agitator and not representative of the LGBTQIA+ community, while a smaller percentage shrug it off as a bad joke. No one is laughing, however, and parents across the country are seeking solutions to stop the madness. In this episode, we'll explore the chant and the responses to it, opening the scriptures to seek the only solution that will matter for eternity: the gospel.

The death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of 5 police officers was a shocking instance of police brutality that the country united in denouncing outright. The outrage seemed somewhat muted compared to the response to George Floyd's killing, but many question whether racial tensions may have had a role to play, since all involved were black. Did these officers exhibit "internalized racism" and were thus "the black face of white supremacy" as the left contends? Or was this an instance of the sinfulness of man on full display? In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we are delighted to hear the testimony of Charity. Charity is in full time Christian ministry, but that was not always the case. In fact, for an extended amount of time, she thought she was saved because a pastor prayed a prayer with her and declared her so. But she didn't understand the gospel and she was seeking her mother's approval. It wasn't until she met a special young man who introduced her to the gospel of Jesus Christ with a warm joke and genuine concern that she came to understand her need for the Savior. Let us listen to her testimony and praise God for His goodness, never allowing ourselves to become used to God's love and power in providing salvation to all who turn to Him!

Episode 130

In early May of 2023, a homeless, mentally ill man with a tragic and violent past was killed via chokehold on a New York subway after his menacing behavior on the subway prompted bystanders to restrain him. Daniel Penny, the former Marine who restrained Neely via chokehold, provided lifesaving measures after he lost consciousness and was only arrested after Neely's death ignited race-related protests in the city (Penny is white and Neely was black). Was this a race-related confrontation as many purport it to be, or is there more to the story? Does Neely's death highlight the untenable conditions in New York City and represents all our failures as a society? Series: On the Mission Field - 13

In many countries around the world, the name of Jesus Christ is still unknown and the people are as yet unreached. Nepal is home to nearly 31 million souls, 1.5% of which claim the title 'Christian' and only the Lord knows how many of that small percentage are genuine born-again believers. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we have the honor of interviewing Missionary John, whom God has called to reach the people of Nepal. We will learn about the challenges of this field, and how God is working to remove the barriers Hinduism, Buddhism, and other religions pose to salvation.

At 23:28 in the recording, Missionary John was asked "How do you share the Gospel in the culture like that? Would you agree that it is a shame/honor culture in that area of the world, and how would you go about doing that?" His response was, "I would agree that it is certainly motivated a lot more by guilt." He meant to say "shame."

Also at 26:25 in the recording, Missionary John said that Silas was with Paul in Acts 14. That was incorrect. He meant to say Barnabas was with Paul.

The World Health Organization has declared the COVID-19 pandemic officially over. The nation has changed quite dramatically since the spring of 2020, both for better and for worse. In this episode, we look back at the pandemic and try to make sense of what we just went through. There were significant economic, social, spiritual consequences of the pandemic and our response to it. In many important ways, the pandemic (along with the Trump and Biden presidencies) pulled the wool off our eyes, allowing us to see a more complete and honest picture of the state of our institutions, our people, and our country. In this bonus episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, I (MCG) will be recounting my police ride-along experience with Officer CigarBro. No, we did not chase bad guys to the end of his jurisdiction, nor did we have a shootout with bullets flying over our heads. Instead, what I saw was just good ol' fashioned policing, where a police officer was known by his first name and children who weren't afraid to greet him with smiles and hugs. I saw good ol' fashioned policing that the major media outlets are not likely to report on. I saw good ol' fashioned policing where the police serve and protect their community.

Episode 122 If we are honest, we admit that we wonder about the big questions of life: Who am I? How did we get here? What is death? What happens after death? What exactly happens to a person when they die? In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, Missionary Marco joins us as we explore these questions and examine what the Bible says about them.

At about 16 minutes in the recording, Missionary Marco mentioned the case of a pastor who was praying over what to do with his unresponsive mother. He would like to correct the record with the information below:

In 1988, the mother of Pastor Terry Coomer (Hope Baptist Church, North Little Rock, Arkansas) suffered a heart attack and was without oxygen to her brain for more than five minutes. She went into a coma and throughout that night had seizures every few minutes. Several brain specialists told the family that she would never regain consciousness and would be a “vegetable” for the rest of her life. Her major organs had shut down, and she was on a breathing ventilator. For months she remained in that condition, with her husband stopping by the hospital each day to talk to her, when she suddenly woke up! Pastor Coomer testifies: “I was called to the hospital and she talked to me. She told me how much she loved me and how she was going to miss seeing her grandchildren grow up. She also talked about knowing that she was going to die and about the home that she had in heaven. She asked why this had happened to her. I told her I did not know, but I knew God loved her and had a place prepared for her. We prayed together, and I hugged her and told her how much I loved her. Ten days later, she went into the presence of her Lord. I asked the neurologist how they could make such a mistake. He told me the brain is different than any other organ, meaning that it is more difficult to predict what will happen to the brain than with other organs. I can testify to that. I am glad we were not persuaded to pull the plug even though I was told over and over, ‘She has no quality of life.’ I am thankful we left the decision of her life in the hands of the Lord rather than those who thought it was okay to kill.”
