Patient retention is a thing that often gets overlooked. Yet, it can be one of the largest reasons contributing to you losing patients in your trials, your practice and in your care. Luckily there are some quick and easy fixes Heather and I share.

Being persuasive is important in any facet of life. Everyone has to “sell” something every day. This means selling why you should be selected for that promotion, why your kid should listen to you, or why you should go eat somewhere over another suggested place.

This applies to clinical research whether you are a coordinator talking to a patient, principal investigator negotiating a contract, or a clinical research associate trying to become a clinical trial manager.

This is why I want to cover the three components of persuasion according to Aristotle (Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.)

There's often a common reason that patients don't enroll into studies after they are found to be eligible. This has to do with the complexity of the consent forms are provided to them. Often times they can be intimidating to the patient because they don't understand all the lot of the medical jargon. In this episode we cover a way to simplify by repurposing techniques we already use elsewhere.

Using metaphors and analogies is vital to helping a patient better understand their condition. This can mean the difference that they retain what you spoke to them about versus forgetting it instantly. It is our job as Healthcare communicators to break down complex topics for the patients.
