Women's representation, diversity and inclusion in decision-making

Women's representation, diversity and inclusion in decision-making

This episode focuses on women's representation, diversity and inclusion in decision-making. Several studies highlight the extent of women’s under-representation in decision-making and the invisibility of their voices in policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. A greater representation of women in decision-making, combined with an explicit focus on diversity and inclusion, can make a significant contribution in overturning the worst effects of Covid-19 responses on inequalities. A higher women’s presence in decision-making means that women’s interests are more likely to be addressed in policy discussions and outcomes.

In this podcast, we explore the RESISTIRÉ project’s findings and recommendations to ensure gender-balanced decision-making and the involvement of civil society with Marcela Linková and Sara Clavero, two of the researchers who investigated the topic.

Gender Mainstreaming, with Anne-Charlott Callerstig and María López Belloso

Gender Mainstreaming, with Anne-Charlott Callerstig and María López Belloso

Concluding its first research cycle, the RESISTIRÉ project delivered a set of 8 factsheets to suggest practical recommendations to mitigate the social, economic, political, and environmental effects of Covid-19 policy responses on gender equality. In this new podcast series, we explore some of RESISTIRÉ’s findings and recommendations with project partners.

This episode focuses on gender mainstreaming. Although it has been adopted as an approach in EU policymaking for over two decades, COVID-19 national-level policies are largely still not mainstreamed. Gender mainstreaming should not only be an ambition, it should also be implemented, monitored, and evaluated, with concrete results and impact. Our guests are Anne-Charlott Callerstig and María López Belloso, two of the researchers who investigated the topic.

Introducing Better Stories, with Dina Georgis and Ayşe Gül Altinay

Introducing Better Stories, with Dina Georgis and Ayşe Gül Altinay

The RESISTIRÉ project is mapping inspiring practices of civil society organisations and policies that mitigate the impact of Covid-19 policies. These best practices are called better stories”, a concept developed by Dina Georgis. In her book “Better Stories, Queer Affects from the Middle East” Dina argues that there is always a better story than the better story and proposes story as a method for social inquiry and a tool to access and understand how political histories are written.

In this podcast we have the honor of having Dina Georgis with us. Dina Georgis is associate professor at the Women & Gender Studies Institute at the University of Toronto. She will be in conversation with RESISTIRÉ partner Ayşe Gül Altinay, professor of anthropology and gender studies at Sabancı University, Turkey, and former director of SU Gender, the university's Gender and Women's Studies Center of Excellence.
