The Layman's Guide to the Lectionary

Many churches use a lectionary, that is a series of Bible readings that are used in their worship together. In a one year lectionary, you would read the same Scriptures in church this weekend next year that you would read this weekend. In this podcast, we will do a weekly Bible study (45-60 minutes) on the LCMS' three year lectionary, which is what we use in the congregation I serve. Our lectionary includes an Old Testament reading, Epistle reading, and Gospel reading, for each week of the church calendar year. Year A - 5th Sunday in Lent
Ezekiel 37:1-14, Romans 8:1-11, and John 11:1-45 are our texts for the week.  Our three readings all share the idea that God is the author of life and death.  He is in control, and has the authority and power to raise us from the dead.  And for those trivia lovers out there, is "Jesus wept," actually the shortest verse in the Bible???
