10-24-21 sermon, Pastor Kate Mackie
Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/f_jlLSfnjU8 History recognizes the official start of the Protestant Reformation on October 31, 1517. For more than 500 years, the church experienced great periods of change, but perhaps none more dramatic than what the church has experienced these past 18 months. But through it all, God hasn't changed. He has remained faithful and true and has been the sure rock upon which we build our faith. Today's worship service will recognize all that God has done for us and his kingdom. Let us worship God! Bulletin: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ec0j752ini7ghb2/Oct%2024%20Bulletin.pdf?dl=0

7-18-21 Sermon, Pastor Kate Mackie
Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/XpmIkJXQfNY We are getting excited for this year's Vacation Bible School and the theme of "Weird Animals" which is set to begin in just over a week! So for the next two weeks in worship, we will be taking a look at scriptures dealing with animals and this week is the story of Daniel in the Lion's Den. RGPC began 2021 with a "No Fear New Year" theme and Pastor Kate will once again be revisiting this with her sermon titled "If These Walls Could Talk – A Return to a No Fear New Year." She will be preaching on what it means to have trust and faith in God when we are trapped in our own metaphorical Lion's Dens – when we are surrounded by things that cause us to fear and doubt. Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/iOBv1PnFfto The first Sunday of our new sermon series titled: "A Bridge of Hope: Where Faith & Mental Illness Connect." Besides earning a Master's of Divinity degree, Pastor Kellie also has credentials with a master's in clinical psychology. This makes her especially unique to preach on the topic and share her perspective. The Church Universal has been silent too long on mental health issues and RGPC feels it is important for those struggling to know they are not alone. Welcome to worship! Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/lPeK1KveCAg We welcome you to worship as we continue on with our "Standing in the Gap" sermon series.  Today, Pastor Kate will be taking us through the familiar story of Noah and the Great Flood.  Often times this story focuses on Noah's obedience to God in building the ark then we spend time focusing on God's promise.  But what about the "in between time?" The time between the flood and final recession of the waters? Noah was standing in the gap waiting for what was to come - and that will be the focus of today's worship. You are welcome here! Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/q6OZX5KhnYw Break Away & Worship: Undivided ~ May 20, 2021 Division is normal.  But in God's Kingdom, it shouldn't be.  Division is a man-made concept, it is not of God.  This Break Away & Worship uses Psalm 133 and 1 Peter 4, coupled with the song "Undivided" by Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard, as the basis for a message to inspire all to be bridge builders - coupled with the charge to go and seek unity and inspire change wherever you may be.

5-6-21 Break Away & Worship ~ Full Service (audio from video)
Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/z3NgdDziw_c Break Away & Worship: Be the "i" in Kind Jesus Christ was the ultimate movement creator.  He was radical in his teachings on love, grace and forgiveness.  Inspired by these teachings, Saint Paul went on to write about the various fruits of the spirit with kindness being one of them.  In this worship experience, Pastor Kellie Whitlock reflects on the meaning of what it truly means to be kind, especially in this world where sometimes it feels like kindness is in short supply.  Pastor Kellie also takes some time to celebrate the "Be the 'i' in Kind" movement being supporting by various city leaders and businesses in the City of Livonia, Michigan - coupled with an initiative to raise funds to bless all teachers and staff of the Livonia Public Schools and Clarenceville School Districts in December of 2021.  So come, spend a few moments with us as we worship Jesus Christ, the ultimate movement-maker and the perfect example of kindness.

4-25-21 Sermon, Pastor Kellie Whitlock
Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/hTK0mT_PWNw Bulletin: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s08kl4ldrwd4zrl/April%2025%20Bulletin.pdf?dl=0 Pastor Kellie kicked off our Resurrection Rebel series! Mary Magdalene is our first "rebel" and what a story she has! She was the first to find out from Jesus himself that He had risen from the dead. He told Mary to go and tell and she did. She spread that news that He had risen, and throughout her life she spread His message through her discipleship.  Her story remains today a bold example of what is means to follow your heart. Mary Magdalene was a definitely a leader among women, the bible says: -She was healed by Jesus from seven demons. Mark 16:9 -She traveled on the road with Jesus's disciples. Mark 15:40-41 -She stood at the foot of the cross. John 19:25 -She was the first to see and talk with Jesus after the resurrection. Matthew 28:9 -She supported Jesus financially. Luke 8:3 -She proclaimed Him as the Christ.  John 20:14 Pastor Kellie invites you to be like Mary and to open yourself up and to pour out all of the "stuff" that is holding you back. Pour that "stuff" out and allow Him to fill you up with His faith and love, with hope and with joy that will send you running out into your world, like Mary did, to tell those you encounter every day that you are a child of God. Our purpose is to love and serve Him by loving and serving others! Jesus called Mary to go and to tell and He calls us to go and tell and to live and enjoy being in His company for truly He loves you and He is always with you and for that you can always depend on!

Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/Wjwna0qkbe4 Life is messy.  No one has to tell you that.  Sometimes we create our own messes by making poor choices or decisions, while other times messes just seem to find us.  But regardless, whatever mess you may find yourself in, Jesus steps into the mess with you and will lead you out.  In the Bible we read a moment from John's eyewitness account of Jesus' life where a woman was caught in adultery, thus finding herself in quite a mess.  And even though she made a poor decision, Jesus still steps into her mess and rescues her from those who wish to condemn her.    What messes in life are you currently in?  Whatever it may be, rest assured knowing that Jesus will step right into the midst of your mess and lead you through.

We need to talk to God when we’re worried and we need to keep talking because we don’t want our worries to define who we are.   Refuse to let your worries define you. Jesus is bigger than any worry.

Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/Ep4ARY_OKPE Finding Meaning in God's Word Last week, our faith community celebrated our tradition of "Star Sunday" where everyone receives a "Star Word" – literally a paper star with a word written on it – and this will be their word for the year.  We encourage everyone to pray over this word and ask God to show how he reveals himself to them throughout the year through this word.  Pastors Kellie and Kate reflection on their Star Words from 2020 and talk about their word for 2021.    If you wish to have a word for this year, follow this link that we provided for people to virtually receive their words this year.    https://wheelofnames.com/9x8-6xa    What will your Star Word say?  We acknowledge that we do not own the rights to "Goodness of God."

Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/cxVBIWpo8yc How to Hang On to Hope & Trust at the Close of 2020 There is no doubt we are all bone-tired weary – and every day it feels harder and harder to hang on to hope and trust as the year draws to a close.  But make no mistake about it, no one knows our weariness better than Jesus Christ – and it is God "who bends down to us and hears our cry" (Psalm 40:2). There is joy in knowing we do not have to face these days alone.  Trust that God goes before us – and Jesus goes with us – every step of each day.  And that is hope worth hanging on to!

Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/zdLwFB-OX98 What are you hoping for today?  The end of the pandemic?  World peace? A new job?  A cure for cancer?  We all have things that we hope for - and some of our hopes will be realized, but some not. So as we wait in anticipation and expectation for our hopes to come to pass, rest assured you can place your hopes in Jesus Christ, God incarnate, now.  Because after this, what ever your "this" may be, God is still the one in whom all of our hopes are realized.   We acknowledge we do not own the rights to "The Hope of Christmas" by Matthew West   CCLI #1636329

Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/9akjxM1Q-LE Thanksgiving For What? It's Thanksgiving Week 2020 - what are you thankful for?  Is there something inside of you that simply wants to say "thankful for what?"  That is understandable.  This week's Break Away & Worship spends some time looking at Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus and how he writes encouraging words to help them remain strong in the faith.  And it's through these encouraging words that we can be reminded that God is bigger than any struggle we may be facing, and once we recognize that, we can begin to be reminded of all those things for which we can be thankful. Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/EapW794M_Mo Brokenness It's no secret that we all are becoming more and more weary with each passing day in the midst of this pandemic.  And the cracks in our lives are starting to show more and more - our brokenness is becoming more and more apparent.  Others might not see your cracks, or where you are feeling broken inside, but Jesus does - and he invites you to cast your cares and worries in his direction - to place your brokenness at his feet and let him heal you from the inside out.

11-11-20 Break Away & Worship ~ Full Service (audio from video)
Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/E6BpIdrk7OI In this week's Break Away & Worship we take a moment to reflect on how we all have been called to be peacemakers and kind to one another.   Like the Christian recording artist Josh Wilson sings, "Why does kindness seem revolutionary? When did we let hate get so ordinary?"  So let's get revolutionary and continue to be kind to one another, especially when we realize we will never look into the eyes of someone God does not love. May we each reflect on the many ways in which we can bring about Christ's peace into this hurting world.

Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/pgqZGzAelfE "Come Away With Me" In this week's Break Away & Worship we take you from the shores of Lake Michigan to the shores of the Sea of Galilee where Jesus has invited you into his boat to come away for a while.  In the Gospel according to Mark, Chapter 6, Jesus and his disciples have been kept very busy - so busy, in fact, that they didn't even have time to eat.  So Jesus said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while."  Jesus is inviting you to do the same thing - to set aside all those things are still clamoring after your attention and rest at his feet.  Once rested, you will be ready to take on the next task that comes your way.

It is also the kick-off to our 2021 Stewardship Campaign entitled "RGPC Cares: Encountering Christ for a Better Tomorrow."  You are being invited to continue in your discipleship of Christ by recognizing that you are God's workmanship and have been created for good works by partnering with him in his ministry and mission to the world. Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/mOrphfGunP0 The Lighthouse There are many analogies used to describe Jesus Christ.  Jesus is the Word made flesh.  Jesus is the incarnate God.  Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega.  Jesus is the Way.  Jesus is our Safe Harbor.     Jesus is everything we need for all moments and circumstances of life - for the joys and trials.  And of course, in the midst of the trials and tribulations, when the seas of life get rough, the night grows dark, and the shores are rocky, Jesus is the light that shines out of the darkness to lead us safely to shore.  Quite simply, Jesus is a Lighthouse.      Come away with us to the water's edge - break away from life for a few moments and worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Lighthouse of our lives.

Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/whJJHo3cWEQ Hardwired for Hope Hope is a familiar feeling and we all have a sense of it. We hope this pandemic will soon be over. We hope our kids have promising futures. We hope for a job offer. We hope for a relationship. When you’re in the midst of adversity, you hope for a quick end or conclusion.  Hope is a familiar feeling to us all.  However, nothing is sure in this life, and we can hope all we want for specific things and certain outcomes but it still may not be enough. Yet God invites us into a relationship that is sure and true - a relationship in which we can place our hope and our trust. This Break Away & Worship time gives space to consider where it is we place our hope, and invites you to place your hope in Jesus Christ.

Worship Where You Are Audio from YouTube video: https://youtu.be/X4AoxFeYIeg There is a short passage in scripture that simply says this "And Israel worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff." (Genesis 47:31b)   There is beauty in the simplicity of that verse as it reminds us all that worship can happen at any time and in any place.  Those who have a church that they call "Home" have been removed from their worship spaces for many months now, and we all have been forced to worship in new spaces and new places.  Yet Jesus reminds as all that he is with us wherever we may be and he receives our worship from wherever it may come.  So today, take a moment to break away and worship this amazing God who does not reside in buildings of stone or wood, but resides in our hearts.
