Xrays For Osteoarthritis

Xrays For Osteoarthritis

I didnt think saying "not everyone with joint pain needs an xray" was going to be my controversial opinion when I think Tea is the worst drink ever invented but here we are...

The NICE guidance says "Our guideline on osteoarthritis recommends that adults aged 45 or over should be diagnosed with osteoarthritis clinically without investigations if they have activity-related joint pain and either no morning joint-related stiffness or morning stiffness that lasts no longer than 30 minutes"

ASK ME ANYTHING LIVESTREAM 06.12.21

Welcome back and after a bit of a break I was back on Chewing It Over! I opened it up as an Ask Me Anything and a few questions came in for me to discuss. We first talked about assessing for Enthesitis, then moved on to psoriasis and nails before finishing up on Hypermobility. It was good fun and I will certainly look at running some more in the new year.

If you have any questions for me then do get in touch, I always try to answer them or use them as a basis for a blog.

Psoriatic Arthropathy Blog Read

Welcome back to the blog! Psoriatic Arthritis (Big Sigh). This is not easy, today I had a paper brought to my attention by Martin Thomas on Twitter which is open access LINK and is an interesting read for certain. It speaks to a lot of the challenges we face when trying to pick out Psoriatic Arthritis conditions in the sea of MSK presentations. I have tried to create some learning pointers in this blog.

Why All Clinicians Should Care About Rheumatology

Welcome back to the blog! Catchy title alert, clickbait? Maybe. This is a topic I have been wanting to talk about for a while and I have a really good little article in the blog to demonstrate why. I have put my thoughts in and I hope they get your brain ticking over. I have also put the audio on my podcast feed :)

RheumMates - Exercise and Inflammation with Dr Ai Lyn Tan

And we are back! RheumMates is fast becoming my passion project speaking to these amazingly cool clinicians in Rheumatology. This month I am joined by Mike Dare and we had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Dr Ai Lyn Tan. Dr Tan is a Consultant Rheumatologist, Associate Professor, researches arthritis, mris, muscles, ultrasounds and runs EVRY DAY. She is truly awesome. Make sure you follow her on Twitter for the latest and greatest research.

We discuss a myriad of topics relating to Exercise and Inflammation, many of these questions come straight from my courses and clinicians are always keen to know the answers. Ai Lyn provides these in absolute bucket loads.

What is Rheumatology? Blog Read

What is Rheumatology? Blog Read

We are back, another week, another blog. I have been thinking this week about Rheumatology and its place in the hearts and minds of MSK Therapists. While I was thinking about this I found the start of a blog I planned on writing about 2 years ago and it triggered me to write this. I am going for a shameless request this week to increase visibility. Why not suggest it to a colleague, tag them on social media or bring it up in a training session? Its much more fun when we learn together!

Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis Blog Read

I have for a long time avoided this subject and I have decided to finally try and include this in my repertoire as the number of questions continues to increase. This is certainly an evolving area of knowledge for me and as a result this is not complete, nor do I expect it to be free from errors. Keep an eye out for further blogs and resources on the subject as I am able to learn more.

Spondyloarthritis Nomenclature Update Blog Read

Spondyloarthritis is an umbrella term covering a number of clinical diagnoses that can be broadly described as “enthesitic” in nature. This is an oversimplification but I find it helpful to understand where the site of inflammatory effect is and why certain extra articular features manifest.
