Steve Edwards - CEO Premier Virtual, US Army Veteran
Growing up in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Steve knew he wanted to join the Army after he graduated from high school. “I wanted to jump out of airplanes, so I was in the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg.” he says. After serving 4 years in the Army and 2 in the Florida National Guard, he decided to move on. “I realized the military was great, but financially, it just wasn’t what I was looking for in life.” In 1999, he and some buddies from the 82nd Airborne headed down to Boca Raton to attend Florida Atlantic University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. After stints in the mortgage industry and B2B sales, he got into the job fair industry, traveling across the Southeast and Southwest to conduct events. Within a few years, though, Edwards noticed a slowdown in business. “Everybody was working, they couldn’t come to job fairs and turnout was low.” He recalls, or they were opting to apply for jobs online instead. “It was affecting my pocketbook”. Looking for a better way to connect employers to job candidates, Edwards seized on the concept of virtual job fairs. “People don’t have to travel,” I said, “This is going to be the future,” he recalls. Steve bootstrapped Premier Virtual with personal savings to launch the business. Once he got the business off the ground he knew he had an idea he could monetize. He was in several mentoring programs along the way as he knew he had a great idea and could sell it but didn’t know everything. He was involved with the VMT, FAU Tech Runway and the FAU Veterans Entrepreneurship Program which is sponsored by Veterans Florida. At the end of the program they conduct a pitch competition for the Entrepreneurs and their business ideas and the winner from each school goes on the represent their school at the State competition. Steve represented FAU and then won the Statewide competition as well. This program, and the early pitch competitions he won, although not significant amounts, were still welcomed since he was self-funding the business. In 2019, his startup began building a software platform for virtual job fairs. It launched last March, just as COVID-19 arrived – a bit of serendipity that catapulted Premier Virtual to almost instant success. “We went from nobody knowing who we were to being ranked as one of the top virtual platforms out there,” says Steve. During its first 10 months, the Premier Virtual platform has powered over 2,500 virtual hiring events which has helped more than 25,000 companies connect with over 250,000 job seekers. The company has grown from 3 employees to more than 20 and earned prestigious awards including 2021 Best Companies to Work for in Florida. Approximately 200 workforce development boards across the country, including CareerSource Florida, which oversees 24 regional partners statewide, have chosen their platform for virtual hiring events. Premier Virtual also has licensing agreements with The Air Force, Army, and several National Guard units. Steve says individual companies, colleges, and other organizations are quickly coming on board and that they would have never participated in job fairs if it weren’t for virtual, and he’s bullish on the company’s future. “Covid-19 got our name out there, but now people have embraced the technology and how much more efficient it is. We’ve just begun to scratch the surface of what virtual hiring events will do for employers and job-seekers alike.”

Victoria Wieck - Author, Podcast Host and more
Victoria grew up in a sleepy coastal village in South Korea, surrounded by abundant natural beauty. One of her favorite activities was to watch the stunning sunset from her home, wondering what lay beyond the horizon. She would ask her mother endless questions about the world outside of her small town. Her mother read her stories and taught her how to read, but her curiosity knew no bounds. In school, she excelled in reading, writing, and art. After graduate school, she was offered several jobs in New York but took a marketing job at a jewelry manufacturing company in Los Angeles to stay closer to her family. Much to her surprise, she ended up using her artistic talents a lot more than she ever imagined. Believing that there was a market for high-quality, stylish jewelry at affordable prices, she formed her own company in 1989 on a shoestring budget. Over the next three decades, her jewelry career allowed her to travel to many places she’d only read about ever since she was a young girl. Victoria’s jewelry designs are inspired by her extensive travels, soaking in history, cultures, and architecture. Today, she is a successful jewelry designer with her own TV show on Shop HQ, connecting with millions of viewers regularly. When she’s not on TV with her latest collections, she’s either writing or reading. Just a few weeks ago, she completed her first novel, Shattered Sky, a 94,000-word, Science Fiction/Young Adult Thriller. It’s a gripping thriller about a young girl who sets out on a mission to save her kidnapped sister and experiences sacrifice, betrayal, and love in a post-WWIII world where survival necessities are scarce. Additionally, Victoria began writing a “how-to” book, Living the American Dream Your Way: How to Turn Your American Dream into Reality (working title). This book will serve up a healthy dose of inspiration based on her unique journey, as well as proven methods of starting a business without taking unnecessary risks. With both books, a portion of the proceeds will be set aside for various charities to help others.

When she returned back to California, she attended high school and college, graduating with Spanish as her major and Communication Studies as her minor. She lived as a people pleaser, always trying to find her worth through other people’s approval and validation. She also lived filled with fear. She wasn’t even aware that either of those was true about her until after her divorce in 2012. During her marriage, she appeased and enabled her husband to feel good enough. She lost any type of sense of self that she’d had and wore a mask to fit in and belong. She unintentionally lied and manipulated to be liked and approved of by people. Her life changed dramatically after her divorce. She hit rock bottom and was engulfed by sadness, anger, loss, and grief. She suddenly realized that she was going to have to take charge of her own life instead of blaming everyone else. She became aware of her subconscious beliefs of lack and limited possibilities. She vowed that she was going to put in the work to change these patterns…

Chasing Shadows- Fred Burton and Ted Andre
Ted Andre is an award-winning Producer and Production Executive, who has successfully developed and produced cutting-edge, critically acclaimed independent content for theatrical, television, and streaming platforms. He is also Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Black Market Entertainment, LLC (BME).  His creative background has a solid foundation in both filmmaking and music. Ted was born in Germany to a military Special Ops family, which meant constantly moving to different countries. This nomadic lifestyle led to an appreciation for a wide range of cultures and history, and an obsession with the creative spirit of the stories told through film, music, and graphic novels. My father was part of an elite special ops unit called MACV-SOG. One of their primary objectives was to rescue our troops from prison camps in Vietnam. Just prior to his passing, one of my dad's last requests was for me to look into the mysterious death of one of his closest friends – Israeli air attaché Joe Alon. During our final conversation, he provided some key information on the matter. Fred Burton is a former police officer, special agent, and New York Times best-selling author. He's served on the front lines of high-profile investigations like the hunt for and arrest of Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind behind the first World Trade Center bombing; the 1988 plane crash of PAK-1 that killed U.S. Ambassador Arnold Raphel and Pakistani President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq; and the search for Americans kidnapped by Hezbollah in Beirut, Lebanon. His best-selling books include his personal memoir GHOST: Confessions of a Counterterrorism Agent, Chasing Shadows: A Special Agent's Lifelong Hunt to Bring a Cold War Assassin to Justice, Under Fire: The Untold Story of the Attack in Benghazi, and his fourth book, Beirut Rules: The Murder of a CIA Station Chief and Hezbollah’s War Against America. Beirut Rules was optioned by Sony, and Chasing Shadows continues to generate interest and awareness by way of several recent interviews with Fred Burton. Our CHASING SHADOWS feature project is a timely story rooted in the bestselling book, which explores this fascinating high-profile unsolved case from the 1970s. When author Fred Burton and I connected via social media, we began to uncover new details based on handwritten journals my father kept, and have now brought the story into the present day by way of this deeply personal connection.” – Ted Andre Book Synopsis: On a warm Saturday night in July 1973 in Bethesda, Maryland, a gunman stepped out from behind a tree and fired five point-blank shots into Joe Alon, an unassuming Israeli Air Force pilot, and family man. Alon's sixteen-year-old neighbor, Fred Burton, was deeply shocked by this crime that rocked his sleepy suburban neighborhood. As it turned out, Alon wasn't just a pilot – he was a high-ranking military official with intelligence ties. The assassin was never found and the case was closed. In 2007, Fred Burton – who had since become a State Department counterterrorism special agent – reopened the case. In Chasing Shadows, Burton spins a gripping tale of the secret agents, double-dealings, terrorists, and heroes he encounters as he chases leads around the globe in an effort to solve this decades-old murder. From swirling dogfights over Egypt and Hanoi to gun battles on the streets of Beirut, this action-packed thriller looks into the dark heart of the Cold War to show how power is used, misused, and sold to the most convenient bidder.

Virginia Cruse - THE SOLDIER’S GUIDE TO PTSD A No-Shit Guide to Reclaiming Your Life
Virginia is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor specializing in Military Issues and Combat-Related Trauma. She provides crisis intervention and evidence-based treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Moral Injury, Depression, Combat Operational Stress, and other diagnoses. Virginia is a certified clinician and Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy and has 20+ years of experience serving Active-Duty Military, Veterans, Military retirees and family members. She is a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) and active American Group Psychotherapy Association member. Virginia is an Army Reserve Officer, Combat Veteran, and published researcher. As a therapist, Virginia Cruse was becoming frustrated with the rumors her clients heard about PTSD that kept them from getting better. Why did so many of them believe that PTSD had no cure? That they couldn’t have PTSD because they were not in direct combat? That they didn’t “deserve” to have PTSD, or didn’t “deserve” to get better? The answer hit a nerve with Cruse: no one had taken the time to explain PTSD to Service Members in a way that made sense. Soldiers were losing their resiliency and optimism in a culture that propagated misinformation and went against the facts about PTSD, facts that are necessary to know in order to recover good mental health and salvage important relationships.

Claire Chandler
Claire Chandler helps ambitious, mission-forward companies scale with fewer growing pains and bottlenecks. She founded Talent Boost because she was tired of finding employees curled up under their desks, crying and disillusioned. She cures workplace misery by fixing the biggest impact on a company's culture: the behavior of its leaders. Claire uses a proprietary blend of humor and insights to pull leaders out of their silos and extract the fundamental DNA that makes their business unique. She turns siloed bosses into magnetic leaders who attract the right talent--and repel the wrong people--to accomplish the company’s mission. She's married to a Marine Corps veteran and has a talking chinchilla with his own YouTube leadership series. Claire only works with C-level executives who are: Ambitious: They want their company to be the market-dominating, profitable organization that attracts the right employees and customers. Self-Aware: They know they don’t have all the right people, processes, and/or strategies to reach their desired future. Open: They are not easily offended by a woman telling them they're wrong and are willing to do things differently to achieve the amazing results they want. Claire has worked within and alongside small and large organizations across a broad swath of industries, from mining and manufacturing to pharma and biotech, to turn growing companies into consistent magnets for talent. If joining a swath of magnetic leaders and companies appeals to you, schedule a call ASAP. You'd be surprised how many other leaders have already signed up for her unique brand of tough love.

Brett D'Alessandro - Backpacks for Life
Sgt. Brett D’Alessandro returned home from a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan to what he thought was the end of a long road. He learned very quickly that an even longer road filled with struggle and confusion lay ahead.  After a challenging deployment, Brett and those whom he returned home, were now facing the hardest part of the process; reintegrating into their civilian lives while battling with the hidden wounds of war. Following a face-to-face encounter with a homeless veteran on the streets of Rhode Island in the winter, something resonated with Brett. It wasn’t just him or those he was deployed with or this man on the side of the road…it was MANY veterans, nationwide, who had to deal with the trauma of coming home and not knowing where to turn. Brett took this moment as a sign to do more and be more for his fellow servicemen and women. That day, Brett distributed a backpack to this veteran filled with socks, t-shirts, and warming layers. From this simple act…Backpacks For Life was born. Since 2014, BFL has devoted its life to make sure that no Veteran has to suffer by providing him/her with the correct tools to recover. These tools include coaching services,  communal meals, making the veterans feel human, and letting each Veteran know that he or she isn’t alone. The recovery process is aided by countless hours of personal interaction and the physical distribution of backpacks. Backpacks represent the first line of defense, a symbol of hope, and so much more to the team at Backpacks For Life.

Dustin Gruss - Greatness Facilitator
I am Cleveland born and Cleveland bred, raised in the suburb called Berea, home of the Cleveland Browns. For many years people would be embarrassed by that last fact, but I am proud of it. I'm not demonstrating a poor taste in football teams, but instead, my support of the befuddled Browns franchise should tell you something else about me- my loyalty and appreciation for the underdog. Just as the Browns have had their proverbial carousels of general managers, coaches, and quarterbacks over the last 20 years, I have had my share of carousels as well that have led me to where I am now. Allow me to explain. I have over 20 years of experience in various customer service vocations- retail management, restaurant management, even a 7-year stint as a mail carrier in Central Florida. The consistent between all these vocations was my desire to meet and exceed the expectations of my customers, which I'd say I was pretty good at. The other consistent across all these jobs was the lack of sense of fulfillment I had despite how good I was doing at each. None of them made me feel like I was fulfilling my purpose. I enjoyed making my customers happy, but the gratification in those types of jobs leaves as quickly as it comes and it's on to the next sale. Deep down I knew there was something more.

Andrene Low- Author
In this episode, we have Andrene Low, or Andie as her cozy mystery readers know her, she has a love of writing instilled in her by her mother. Although, if her mum was still alive, she'd be smacking Andrene across the back of the head given the direction some of her writing has taken. Irreverent, cutting and reflecting her background as a stand-up comic, it's edgy with humor that can be very dark in places. She also enjoys a good bit of snark. Andrene lives in the beautiful Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand with Mia a tabby so keen on the local birdlife, she's going the right way to end up decked out in enough bells to be mistaken for a furry little Morris Dancer.

Pup Camp with Dave Shade
After serving a tour overseas fighting in the mountains of Afghanistan, he found himself alone and separated from the brotherhood forged in battle with my unit in the 82nd Airborne. When he became a civilian again, like most veterans he was lost trying to find his way in a world coping with the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress. When all seemed lost, he found solace in the most unexpected of places: A boxer puppy named Lulu. Undoubtedly, Lulu had saved his life as she taught him how to live, love, and feel again. She healed the wounds of war (the ones you don’t see on the outside). This amazing animal had instilled in him a love for the species that made him want to help their kind. Many families and dogs lack great training, and he found I was born for this - to train dogs, create happy families and happy homes. Then, he spent 5 years training thousands of dogs. From this, he started an online training venture that has launched recently. You can visit it a the link below.

Army Veteran to Entrepeneur
In life, we all have encounters with multiple amazing people. In mine, I have had tons of them, especially through my uniform career. One such encounter was with a young man in Korea. He was very mature for a young guy, especially in uniform. He was always pushing for greatness. He was the Battalion Commander's driver then moved on to the Brigade. He also went from a young soldier to an NCO while in Korea. Well, he continued to hustle for the rest of his time, then transitioned out and has become a successful independent over-the-road trucker. He is an inspiration to all young people transitioning into the unknown.  Have a plan and keep pushing forward.  Charles Davis Jr is a hard worker who has never stopped hustling since I met him, he has remained humble and is still hungry!

Coaching and Mentoring the Youth
In this episode, we are visiting with two men who have dedicated their lives to service. They both started out serving via the military. One was a leatherneck a Hollywood Marine who saw combat in Iraq, wound up being medically retired in 2010 from the Corps. A year later he was coaching in High School.  Then life happened and he had to take that resilient mindset to a new level. He continued to serve with Team Rubicon, Team Red White, and Blue became a Fellow with the Mission Continues and a Shepherd with the Save a Warrior foundation.  All of this led him back to coaching, the true life of service.  Our second guest was the son of a Navy family, He grew up in Virginia, had some speedbumps while in school, and wound up not graduating with his class. He joined the Army as an Engineer. Here he found his path with true mentors all around him, great leaders, and advice. He earned the coveted Sapper tab as a young Sergeant (not many achieve this). He left service and started a path he never thought possible, he is becoming a teacher. He is also a coach of all sports.  He loves to coach, teach and mentor and he is a student of each game he is involved in.
