Shoes for Life- with Flavio Dolce

Shoes for Life- with Flavio Dolce

By Rich Woman Magazine

Today, I am travelling to Brazil to talk to the designer, Flavio Dolce.  Marilyn Monroe said “give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!” - well, in Flavio’s shoes you can certainly do that - in style and comfort and how often can you say that about a pair of shoes?!

Flavio trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York , was nominated the Genart Fresh Faces of Fashion in accessories category in 2001.

Learn

  • who are the Big Fashion Brands Flavio collaborated with?
  • who wears Flavio's shoes: Demi Moore, Kylie Minogue, Sharon Osbourne, Yasmin Le Bon and...?
  • why you might soon enjoy wearing pineapple shoes...

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a good pair of shoes” and Flavio's shoes are all about being free and liberated.

I hope you enjoy listening to his story.

Your Big Day Re-Imagined with Joyce Young OBE

Your Big Day Re-Imagined with Joyce Young OBE

By Rich Woman Magazine

There are big expectations when you plan your Big Day, which go way beyond your capsule wardrobe, to become your time capsule. Walking on the aisle is a love commitment and Luxury Bridal trends are inspired by royalty and romance. Surviving the pandemic comes with fresh ivory interpretations and a brave sparkling forward-thinking. Now is the time to re-imagine your Big day!

I am travelling to Scotland to meet Joyce Young, a renowned Designer, specialising in wedding dresses and outfits created not only for occasion wear, but which will stand the test of time and be something to not only treasure, but wear year in year out.

Joyce has designed for many people and treats them all as royalty, but her most recent client has been Pam Gosal becomes first Sikh to be elected to Scottish Parliament

Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman - Coco Chanel said this, but Joyce carries on this ethos with her designs - everything flowing effortlessly together from the hat or hair piece down to the shoes

I wanted to talk to her about her new signature collection, which goes back to her roots of cruise wear and is heaven to any woman of a certain age who wants to look elegant and current, whilst the lumps and bumps of age are flattened, but I also wanted to know her thoughts on that thorny question of dressing for weddings particularly for the mother of the bride or groom

Another Coco Chanel quote comes into mind - Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance - this sums of Joyce Young designs beautifully.

I was fascinated talking to her and could have stayed talking all day - I hope you enjoy listening!

Couture wear inspired by the Indian heritage

Couture wear inspired by the Indian heritage

"What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language."- Muccia Prada

Clothes have such a powerful way of impacting on our lives, who we are, how we represent ourselves and how other people see us.  Clothes also bring together communities, cultures and tell stories about our heritage, our past and also our future.  By talking to designers, stylists and other members of the fashion community, from all over the world, I have realised that they all have one thing in common, one aim - they want to tell stories with their clothes and their brands.  Either their own personal stories or the story of their country and heritage.  They tell their stories through their clothes, so that you can create your own story as you wear them.  The narrative keeps on going round and round, all of us either knowingly or not telling our unique tale by what we wear and how we show up in our lives.

Today I am talking with Chiranjeev Kaur, an emerging designer from India who has worked in the fashion industry for most of her career, as a stylist and brand consultant, but who during the recent lockdowns, decided to follow her dreams and put her experience and creativeness into designing couture wear in the Indian tradition.  Chiranjeeve uses the traditional craftsmanship of the people in her town to create wonderful designs and they, in turn, offer her advice from their wealth of experience handed down through the generations.  Because she was a stylist, she uses this to advise her clients on shapes, colours and textures that will best suit their individual bodies, giving a unique perspective on her design.

Due to the lockdowns and Covid situation in India at the moment, Chiranjeev is unable to put together a capsule collection like she wants to, but is working on individual designs and commissions from her own home.  Her vision for the future is to have her designs represented in outlets in the UK and America and to build on the couture side, designing bespoke outfits that minimise the waste of “off the peg” designs and staying true to her roots.
