Get Real With Rick Dancer - Freestyle 5/3
I'm concerned about what's going on in the world. I don't know when it became okay to hate anyone. On the bright side I believe God is exposing lies and giving us a thirst for the truth. Let's talk about that. Keep the conversation going in the comments.

He's a pretty familiar name in most homes in Oregon, especially in Eugene and Springfield. Mike Bellotti was the head football coach during some pretty amazing years. He's still connected to Oregon, the community and the university in many ways. He'll be back in May for the MDA Golf tournament sponsored by our own Dr Michael Bratland of CrisDental. This week Mike and I sat down and had a conversation about the past, the present and the future. If you're a duck fan you will enjoy this other side of Mike Bellotti.

Get Real With Rick - Another Mill Shuts Down 4/3
When I read the article in the Sealy Lake Newspaper I was stunned. The major employer, a mill that's been around for 75 years, is shutting down. The reason is not a lack of timber, not this time. The reason is people and housing that's too damn expensive to afford. But this interview takes twists and turns and leaves you feeling like Sealy Lake will be okay. Why? The people.

But that doesn't change their value, as you are about to hear.
Get Real With Rick Dancer: The Bearded Social Worker

Get Real with Rick Dancer: The Power Of Our Brain
Maybe Easy Isn’t Really Living?
Sponsored by New Leaf Hyperbaric’s & Massage & CrisDental Family Dentistry
I wake to 15 degree’s.
It’s my running day but consider for a moment changing that to a gym day.
I know how running makes me feel.
Yes, it hurts and today my knee is bugging me a bit.
Last year it was so cold and windy and snowy I didn’t get to run outside and my mental health arose from the dark.
So I decide to grab the hand warmers, a stocking cap and layers and layers of running clothes and hit the path.
I run a 7 mile stretch around a pond that in parts, borders Canyon Ferry Lake.
I love it here.
I rarely see another human but witness wildness in its purest form.
Today I’m listening to a podcast with David Goggins and Andrew Huberman.
They are talking about living strong, living hard and living long.
I’m captivated by the topic because it’s real life, it’s my life, it’s your life.
I wrote something this same morning that lines up perfectly with what they are saying.
If you want a great life, not just a good life, it means hardship, hard work and hard knocks.
Most people don’t want to put out the effort to have that.
I’m not sure, up to this point, that I would either.
I’m fortunate, I started doing this long ago and God is good to me.
He shows me the depths of despair but only as much as I can handle.
However I will say he pushes me.
What if you and me are stronger than we think?
What if the amazing life we want is not found in a promotion, more views or measured by vacations and comfort?
It’s hard because I don’t want to ask for more pain but I don’t want to go to my grave thinking I missed out of something either.
I pick up a little book I try to read each morning and see where Jacob was taking his people through the wilderness and would measure how far he would push them in the desert by this standard. He said: “I will lead on softly, according to the cattle that goeth before me and the children.”
I think God is like that too.
He only gives us what we can handle but many of us could handle much more if we’d only allow ourselves to have those hard, difficult conversations with ourselves.
I finished my run, knee’s felt fine and my soul was full.
God lead us softly according to what you know we can take but don’t allow us an easy way out.
I want to live a full life, but only if you are in control.

Get Real With Rick Dancer: Oregonians Sue State Leaders
Oregon leaders, hired a company to insure misinformation doesn't get spread about elections, and some are not happy about it. They are taking leadership to court over this, as I think they should. Censorship is alive and well in the Beaver State and if Oregonians don't get a clue it's gonna ruin them.

Get real with Rick Dancer: The Middle Class Is Hurting

Get Real With Rick Dancer: Losing Life To Find It
Most of us understand you have to lose things to gain. It's the same in life. Giving up makes room for something better. The woman you are about to meet was hooked on drugs. She had to make a choice...drugs or her kids. She made the wrong one many times but finally is on the road to recovery. This interview will inspire you. If you have someone in your life who is struggling with addiction

Get Real With Rick Dancer: Why Montana Makes People Cry
Why Does Montana Make People Cry?
Sponsored by Montana Oral Surgeons & Implant Center
I’m not sure why it is that this one simple question I ask of so many, brings tears to their eyes.
A few months ago, I interviewed a doctor at Montana Oral Surgeons & Implant Center and when I asked “Why Montana?” his eyes watered up, his demeanor changed, he was truly touched.
Recently I went back to interview Dr Bernadette Wilson, and she did the same thing.
Yeh, the same question.
Kathy and I have lived here two years and I get it.
People come here because they want to.
It’s not easy living in extremes but it sure creates and openness and an honesty money can’t buy.
Answers always include the big sky, the huge mountains, the water, lakes, river and hunting and fishing.
But I think, as you see in the interview, there’s a magic here that grabs you, holds you, and reminds you what real life feels like.
Finding those moments when times seems to stand still and trouble stay their distance, is what I love about interviewing people.
I think in my life as a reporter/anchor at a television station in Oregon I probably interviewed over 10k people in my career.
Not everyone wants to be interviewed.
But once you start, as was with Dr Wilson, something inside them comes alive.
It’s a moment when you see who they truly are and can’t believe God creates such amazing people.
This interview with Dr Wilson is for the Surgeons website but it’s so good and filled with stories and deep moments, I think anyone and everyone will enjoy the deep dive and the exploration.
Maybe we should do more of this sort of thing.
Let the networks and big shots handle the Hollywood interviews and you and I will concentrate on real people.

Get Real With Rick Dancer Meet My Sisters
Gates Of The Mountains
Sponsored by: BS Free MD Podcast
God is pretty amazing.
He creates some of the most beautiful sanctuaries out of nature and gives humans the ability to do the same.
Two of my three sisters and their husbands are in town so we decided to do a little tourist stuff.
We took them on a boat tour of what’s called “Gates Of The Mountain.”
It’s a rocky, rugged, section of the Missouri River just north of Helena Montana.
As you float up river the height and depth of the rock is breathtaking.
We saw a Big Horned Sheep, many eagles, jagged rock formations that soared into the sky.
The guide even pointed out a few ancient drawings on the rock walls done by people 13,000 years ago. (or so they think).
From there we dropped by the Cathedral of Saint Helena. My sister Dana has visited many of the great Catholic Churches in the world and said this one is in her top two. It really is stunning. You wonder how did such a structure end up in a relatively small town in Montana?
As I wake from a bad dream this morning I find myself reciting the Lord’s Prayer. I started doing this before I get out of bed each morning as a way of preparing for my day, my life. It centers me if that’s possible.
There are so many worries that wiggle their way into my conscience that really have no business being there. I look back at the pictures and videos I shot yesterday. I remember the stories the tour guide told of tragedy, triumph and tenacity. I am but a speck on the tapestry of history and yet God see’s value and has a plan for me. You and I have a role to play in this life. It would be a shame to miss something over worry.
Take some time out of your day today to find something beautiful to focus on.
It’s not that hard to find…..if we look.
Get Real With Rick Dancer: One Man's Tragic Story
I read his story online and thought: "Man I need to get this guy on my show. I find those who live through tragedy and come out on the other side often have the most life to share with the rest of us. As it turns out I was right. I hope this podcast inspires you to push through the hard days. I hope it allows you to see that you are not alone.
"
