The FLOT Line Show
By Rick Hughes Ministries
FLOT is an acronym for Forward Line of Troops. The show teaches principles from the Bible and focuses on God’s 10 unique problem-solving devices. If you choose to learn and apply them, they will act as a main line of resistance in your soul, a FLOT line, preventing the outside sources of adversity from becoming the inside pressure of stress in your soul. The intent is to give you information to help you identify the plan of God for your life.

Understanding God (2021)
Is it possible that you know God but do not understand the God you know? The only way you can come to God is through faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. “I am the way, the truth, and the life and no man comes to the Father but by means of Me” (John 14:6). To understand God, you need to learn God’s protocol plan and realize Jesus Christ lives inside of you. You need the power of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of the living Word of God to execute God’s unique plan for your life.

Living on Borrowed Time (2021)
"Our life is just a vapor trail that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4:14). This life is temporal but there are eternal values. “The Word of God lives forever” (Jam 4:14, Heb 9:27, Ps 89:48, 1 Pet 1:24). You can have absolute confidence you are going to heaven when it is time for you to die (1 John 5:11). The timing and circumstance of a Christian’s death is God’s decision. Nothing can remove you from this life until God decides it is time. Don’t worry about how you are going to die. Focus on how you are living. If you have not made the most important decision in your life, where will you spend eternity—heaven or hell - don’t delay. Make the decision now. Don’t gamble on borrowed time. “What think ye of Christ?” Today could be the first day of your life.

My Testimony (2020)
“Whosoever should call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). I have been speaking for 53+ years presenting the Gospel and communicating clear Biblical principles. It all started when I read this Scripture: “Pray for me that utterance may be given to me to open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel for which I am an ambassador in bonds” (Eph 6:20).

The Christian Walk (2025)
In this episode of The FLOT Line, host Rick Hughes tackles two of the most essential questions in the Christian life: "How can I be sure of my salvation?" and "What does God expect from me now that I’m saved?" He explains what it means to walk in Christ—the basics of the Christian life, from eternal security to spiritual growth, and introduces two key tools for handling adversity through God's Word.

Sin Unto Death (2020)
Divine discipline comes from God’s justice and love. He does it in grace to correct us and teach us before we self-destruct. “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap” (Gal 6:7). Divine discipline is to wake us up, encourage us to get in fellowship with the Holy Spirit, and use our free will to get into God’s plan. “Grievous punishment is for him who forsakes the way and he who hates the reproof of God shall die” (Proverbs 15:10). If one doesn’t respond to increased stages of divine discipline, God may administer the sin unto death.

The Spiritual Life (2020)
The spiritual life is living the life God designed for you. Learning spiritual skills gives you the ability to be independent of human solutions. Comprehension is critical. Your capacity to perceive and apply the Word of God can only come with the filling of the Holy Spirit. “To them, God has chosen to make known the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Col 1:27). Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit live in you—that’s the power of the spiritual life! The goal of the spiritual life: spiritual self-esteem gives you self-confidence in God’s plan. Spiritual autonomy gives you the ability to operate independently, stand-alone. Spiritual maturity is having maximum effectiveness in fulfilling God’s plan for your life. “I pray the God of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. And I pray the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so you will know what the hope of His calling is and what are the riches of His wisdom, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints” (Eph 1:17).

These Things, Part 4 (2020)
In the Lord’s last conversation with the disciples, He gave them these things “… so that My joy might remain in you and your joy might be full” (John 15:11). The disciples could have confident expectations of what God was going to do with them, through them and for them—and so can you. Objective optimism is a relaxed mental attitude from the inner joy and confidence that comes from the Word of God in your soul. You can have a relaxed mental attitude despite any adversity.

These Things, Part 3 (2020)
The greatest joy is knowing you’re exactly where God wants you to be. You have a sphere of influence and can have an impact if you learn and use the 10 problem-solving devices. “I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you” (John 14:18) through the filling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is in you and with you wherever you go today. God gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us and lead us. Prayer is an important one of these things. Pray to God the Father using the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Personal love for God is your motivational virtue—the motivation for obedience and faithfulness to God. God wants us to be faithful. He is always faithful to us. “I will never leave you; I will never forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

These Things, Part 2 (2020)
At the Last Supper, the Lord taught the keys to happiness. “Be kind to one another, forgive” (Eph 4:32). “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:14) is impersonal love. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. The focus of your faith should be Biblical solutions, not human solutions. Fear produces flight. Faith produces confidence. “Let not your hearts be troubled” (John 15:11). Fear and worry are not part of the Christian life. Sharing the happiness of God is objective optimism plus a relaxed mental attitude from confidence in the Word of God in your soul.

These Things, Part 1 (2020)
Jesus personally taught the disciples for the last time at the Lord’s Supper. “These things I have spoken to you so that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11). The greatest joy you will ever have is when you know you’re in the middle of God’s plan and you have confidence in that plan. Sharing the happiness of God is a life with objective optimism with a relaxed mental attitude. You'll have joy and confidence from the Word of God stored in your soul. ’These things’ include forgiveness. “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God for Christ’s sake forgave you” (Eph 4:32).

Four Generation Curse (2020)
The Four Generation Curse is a significant truth taught in the Bible. You need to know about it considering what is going on in this country. We’re living in a chaotic climate. If the anti-God trends continue, fueled by social media influencers, God will bring judgment to our nation. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Since you rejected knowledge, I will reject you” (Hosea). God requires us to LAG: Learn, Apply, and Glorify Him. Every generation is responsible for the decisions it makes, and the culture it chooses. Rejection of authority is the most prominent cause of suffering in life. Rejection of God will bring suffering to our nation. “There’s a generation whose teeth are like swords and whose jaws are like knives” (Prov 30:14). This is the last generation before God brings the fifth cycle of discipline upon a nation. This generation has a lust for power.

The Influencers, Part 2 (2020)
The Bible tells us the only role model is the Lord Jesus Christ, and that's Who we are to model our life after. In 1 Peter 2:21, “For this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in His steps: He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in His mouth.” So, Jesus Christ is our spiritual role model, He is our influencer.

The Influencers, Part 1 (2020)
You and your spiritual life can deliver our nation. One man with divine wisdom delivered this city, “There was found in that city a poor wise man and he, by his wisdom, delivered the entire city” (Eccl 9:14-15). Divine wisdom gives you insight and discernment. This verse applies to you today in our world of chaos and confusion. “The words of the wise heard in calm are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.” (Eccl 9:17). Your assignment, wherever you are, is to be a modern-day Noah. You are to warn of God’s coming judgment. You do this by lifting up the Lord Jesus Christ. This is your assignment from God, to re-present Jesus Christ in your field of influence. You are to be a spiritual influencer. Jesus Christ and his finished work on the cross is a magnet for those who are lost. “I will draw all men unto Me” (John 12:32).

Deliverance in Difficult Times (2020)
The only solution to deliverance is your spiritual life. God can and will deliver you and the nation if you have an invisible impact that has blessing by association. The overruling will of God combined with the directive will of God provides numerous deliverances from adverse circumstances in your life.
The Psalm of Deliverance:
“The king is not saved by a mighty army and a warrior is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a false hope for victory [the mechanized infantry in those days] nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength [talking about the horse]. Behold [the answer] the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His loving kindness to deliver their souls from death and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help; He is our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us according as we have hoped in You.” (Psalm 33:16-22)

Freedom (2020)
You could have freedom in Christ Jesus, the Bible is clear about that. In John 8:31-32, Jesus was saying “to the Jews who had believed in Him, ‘If you continue in My Word then you are truly disciples of Mine then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.’” You have an opportunity to be truly free today and for the rest of your life. We’re going to talk about that here for a moment. The Bible mentions freedom in many places. For example, in Galatians 5:1, “for freedom Christ has set us free …” What did He set you free from? He set you free from the law of sin and death. You don't have to go to hell. You don't have to go to the Lake of Fire. He took your place. He died for you. He was your substitute. In Galatians 5:13, “For you were called to freedom …” by God, not only to have spiritual freedom but to have physical freedom as an American in the US of A. God designed you to have freedom in this client nation of His.

The Fire of God (2020)
So today the greatest problem that we have, the greatest problem that man has is the problem of sin and death. That's the greatest problem. And we have to solve that. So the good news is that Jesus Christ, the anointed Son of God, has redeemed us out of the slave market of sin and our debt to God was paid by Him so we are free - free from the penalty of death and free from the power of sin. And if you receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, you, in effect, accept the offering He made on your behalf. It is a free gift from the compliments of God. If you do not receive the free gift, if you continue to just drift around in life without any purpose, without any meaning, without any destiny then you're playing with fire. The Fool (2020)
Fools don't have any wisdom. Wisdom comes from Bible doctrine in your soul. When you have Bible doctrine in your soul you have wisdom or the Greek word sophia. Wisdom only comes from the knowledge that's first been learned. If you don't learn anything it's impossible to have any wisdom because what you've learned must be converted from knowledge into wisdom and then from wisdom into insight and discernment. Understanding Death (2020)
“I am the gate; whoever enters through Me will be saved” (John 10:9). What a wonderful provision and promise. Because of this verse, we know that our departed loved ones who have believed in Christ are face-to-face with their Savior. Remember, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). When you die as a Christian, your body goes to the grave, your soul and your spirit go to be with the Father and await the resurrection body. Even though we cannot see heaven or begin to understand the scope of God's abode, our departed loved ones are basking right now in His glorious provisions and enjoying their new environment to the fullest.
A lot of people think you go to hell because you commit sins. That's not true. All sins—past, present, and future—were paid for on the cross. What people go to hell for is refusing to believe that Jesus Christ is the anointed Son of God.

How to Honor God (2020)
Our job is to glorify God the Father by replicating the life of Christ and re-presenting Him. In Romans 4:20, “Yet with respect to the promise of God, he [Abraham] did not waver in unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God.” Giving glory to God is what we have to do. In 1 Peter 4:10-11, “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves, let him do so by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to who belongs all the glory and dominion forever and ever.”

A = affection. Get back to a divine appreciation of Who and what God is. L = leave the world behind and return to your first love, your love for God the Father. L = learn and apply the Word in your circumstances and you will glorify God. Y = yield yourself to God’s plan. Have a personal sense of destiny. “In God, I put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
