Home means that you can drop your walls.

Ep 72: The Beautiful Messiness of Life with Writer, Lyle McKeany

At first glance, you might assume that Lyle McKeany is just an average dad who just so happens to be a fantastic writer. Upon further inspection, you'll find little gems in his writing that expose you to the highs of fatherhood and seeing his daughter grow up, while also seeing the arduous tasks involved in raising a daughter with cerebral palsy. You'll learn about how he's been leaning into his creative juices once again, but with a keyboard, not a bass guitar. After a roughly twenty-year (a little under) hiatus of performing in front of thousands of people with his band, Pressure 4-5, Lyle has returned but this time through a screen and with a few more stories to tell. A career path that has had him working as a golf pro, professional musician, poker player, startup founder, growth marketer, and eventually writer, Lyle's seen quite a bit.

In this episode, we discuss his background, how writing for his book is different than for his band, and how 9/11 impacted the trajectory of Pressure 4-5.

Ep. 68: How D1 Tennis Prepared The CBO of Yibber To Run It with Vilhelm Fridell

Vilhelm grew up in Sweeden with a racket in his hands from a young age. Knowing that tennis would be part of his life for a long time, he set his sights on playing in America for college. Attending the University of Buffalo, he played Division 1 tennis for the men's varsity team while studying communications. It was during his junior year that he and his cousin, Carl Fridell, started Yibber. The decision to test the idea came after wanting to create a social media channel that allowed people to use their voices literally to engage and connect with others. Two years on, the company has grown to 13 employees and they've received multiple investments.

Ep. 64: Writing Pretty Words with Copywriter and Author, Cole Schafer

Has there been a moment in your life that defined your life trajectory? Well, Cole had two of those. How does someone go from running up and down a wooden court and considered "manly" to writing, this seemingly more "feminine" hobby? Listen as Cole shares what happened and why it transformed his life. The next instance involved listening to his own intuition instead of following the typical path of working a 9-5. He took a gamble on himself to learn copywriting and well, it's worked out so far.

Ep. 62: The Power of Networks with J. Kelly Hoey

Ep. 62: The Power of Networks with J. Kelly Hoey

Kelly Hoey is the author of Build Your Dream Network: Forging Powerful Relationships In A Hyper-Connected World (January 2017 / Tarcher Perigee). If you're ready for an energy-packed episode with a vibrant force, this episode is for you!

Kelly has been lauded from Forbes (“1 of 5 Women Changing the World of VC/Entrepreneurship”) to Fast Company (“1 of the 25 Smartest Women On Twitter”) to Business Insider (“1 of the 100 Most Influential Tech Women On Twitter”) and Inc. (“1 of the 10 Most Well-Connected People in New York City's Startup Scene”). EBW 2020 included her on their list of the “100 Most Influential Global Leaders Empowering Women Worldwide”.

If you would have asked Kelly back in 2009 if she believed any of those descriptions would be used within a few short years to describe her, she just might have said: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Kelly’s career story is all about networks. Her career started out with a law degree and a job in a big Canadian law firm. She continued up the corporate law ladder (with a management detour) until a chance opportunity in 2009 encouraged her to think bigger. Working alongside a visionary leader of a global business network for women, co-founding a startup accelerator, angel investing, accepting an interim CMO role with an emerging tech company, writing a book, launching a podcast - these are all part of her ongoing networked career journey.

Kelly has appeared on CNBC’s Power Pitch, co-created and moderated a speaker series at Apple, and contributed to media publications such as The New York Times, Forbes, Fast Company, Inc. and more. Today, Kelly continues to spread her networking message as a sought-out speaker, in her online courses and on the Build Your Dream Network podcast.
