Does Closure Exist?

Does Closure Exist?

From the moment we experience pain, we're taught that closure is the answer. We seek to find a resolution to the hurt we feel, and we are told that once we have closure, we can finally move on. But is closure really the answer to our pain?

In this video, I'm challenging the idea of closure and exploring the concept of healing in a progressive way. I talk about the benefits of exploring and addressing our pain instead of trying to hide from it or build a wall to protect ourselves. I share my story of grief and loss, and how by dealing with my pain, I was able to move on and find healing.

What Makes A Man a Man: commemorating Men’s mental health month

Men have experience a lot of name calling because there’s a moral gauge used to judge who should be called a man or not but is that really the ideal thing?

Men suffer mental health problems not as much as women but they take their lives more than women do.

Do you know why? What makes a man a man? Is it the money or affluence? Is it the ability to perform in bed?

This episode tells a lot that you shouldn’t miss.

Hugging: from social well-being to mental well-being

Hugging: from social well-being to mental well-being

For many people, the thing they’ve missed most during the pandemic is being able to hug loved ones. Indeed, it wasn’t until we lost our ability to hug friends and family did many realise just how important touch is for many aspects of our health – including our mental health. The reason hugs feel so good has to do with our sense of touch. It’s an extremely important sense which allows us not only to physically explore the world around us, but also to communicate with others by creating and maintaining social bonds.

Touch consists of two distinct systems. The first is “fast-touch”, a system of nerves which allows us to rapidly detect contact (for example, if a fly landed on your nose, or you touched something hot). The second system is “slow-touch”. This is a population of recently discovered nerves, called c-tactile afferents, which process the emotional meaning of touch.

The Wonders of Hugs

The Wonders of Hugs

Scientists say we need four hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth. While that may sound like a lot of hugs, it seems that many hugs are better than not enough.

So, how many hugs should you have a day for optimal health? According to the best science, we should have as many as possible if we want to reap the greatest positive effects. So, if you want to feel better about yourself, reduce your stress, improve communication, and be happier and healthier, it seems that giving and asking for more hugs is a good place to start.

If you feel nervous about seeking out more hugs, start by asking for them from friends and family members closest to you first.
Would you take up this challenge?
Science proves that regular hugs with those closest to you, even if brief, can have especially positive effects on your brain and body. Please follow our social media channels (@tolusefrancis and @risingheroespodcast)

WHY YOU MISTREAT PEOPLE

WHY YOU MISTREAT PEOPLE

When you think of how you were treated by people around you growing up, how do I feel?

When you think about how people treat you now, what comes to your mind?

There is a strong indication that you’d feel either of these two ways:  loved or unloved, appreciated or I appreciated etc.

However way you feel, the next question is if you’re treating people the same way you were treated or being treated at the moment.

You see the truth is that unless we make conscious efforts, we’d find ourselves treating people the way we were treated by others. The treatment we met out to others is a reflection of a number of things and one of such is how you see yourself.

Would you please sit down this day to evaluate how you treat others viz-a-viz how you see yourself?

7 TIPS ON HOW TO BE BETTER AT LISTENING AT LISTENING TO OTHERS

7 TIPS ON HOW TO BE BETTER AT LISTENING AT LISTENING TO OTHERS

Now, probably more than ever, most people can use someone who really listens and understands them.  With the pandemic holding countries hostage and high unemployment rates as a result, chances are if someone hasn’t been personally impacted by the pandemic, then they know someone who has.  Sometimes simply listening can make all the difference in the world to that person.

Think of someone who makes you feel comfortable and relaxed no matter how chaotic your life may be. Someone who makes you feel that all is right with the world even if it may be crashing down in front of you. When you need comfort, who do you turn to? My guess is whoever this person, he or she possesses one vitally important trait: good listening skills. Being a good listener can be the difference that makes the difference in so many areas of life. For example, a partner who seems to understand and one who doesn’t, or a manager who just “gets it” or one who is missing the boat entirely.

This episode shares with you tips on how you can help someone feel better by just listening!

WHY PEOPLE DROOL

WHY PEOPLE DROOL

In this episode, I discussed that drooling, why people drool, and treatment options available such as home remedies and those that require doctor's attention

Drool is excess saliva that comes out of your mouth. While it can feel uncomfortable when it happens, most of us drool once in a while, especially during sleep. At night, your swallowing reflexes are relaxed just like the rest of the muscles in your face. This means that your saliva can accumulate and some can escape through the sides of your mouth. The medical terms for drooling too much are sialorrhea and hypersalivation.

Though drooling while you sleep is fairly common, sometimes drool is a symptom of a neurological condition, sleep disorder, or other health condition. You might drool more after a health event like a stroke, or as a result of cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis (MS).

Don't forget to favorite and share.

Questions: do you have a partner who drools? If yes, how have you been handling it?

COMPLEX: SUPERIORITY COMPLEX as a cover for an inferiority complex

COMPLEX: SUPERIORITY COMPLEX as a cover for an inferiority complex

A superiority complex is a defense mechanism that develops overtime to help a person cope with painful feelings of inferiority. Individuals with this complex typically come across as supercilious, haughty, and disdainful toward others. They may treat others in an imperious, overbearing, and even aggressive manner.

Psychologist Alfred Adler first described the superiority complex in his early 20th-century work. He outlined that the complex is really a defense mechanism for feelings of inadequacy that we all struggle with. Alfred is regarded as the father of Individual Psychology.

The sad angle to Superiority Complex is that you actually might just be covering up your inferiority feelings/sense.

This episode throws light on this subject matters and signs/symptoms that you could look out for.

Note: this is not a diagnosis hence at your own risk if you swallow the symptoms hook line and sinker.

Being Inferior vs Feeling Inferior

Being Inferior vs Feeling Inferior

Knowing that you’re actually inferior and feeling inferior are two different things. For example, you might realize that someone is taller than you. Or that you’re physically inferior to a professional athlete.

These are normal and sensible observations. But just because you realize you’re inferior to someone in certain ways doesn’t mean it has to make you feel inferior. Internalizing feelings of inadequacy can lead to obsessive thoughts that might signal an inferiority complex.

These amongst other issues are discussed in this episode.

Jan 16, 202110:23
COMPLEX : DEALING WITH INFERIOIRTY COMPLEX

COMPLEX : DEALING WITH INFERIOIRTY COMPLEX

The reality of complexes is widely agreed upon in the area of depth psychology, a branch of psychology asserting that the vast majority of the personality is determined and influenced by unconscious processes.

Complexes are common features of the psychic landscape, according to Jung's accounting of the psyche, and often become relevant in psychotherapy to examine and resolve, most especially in the journey toward individuation or wholeness. Without a resolution, complexes continue to exert unconscious, maladaptive influence on our thoughts, feelings, and behavior and keep us from achieving psychological integration.

In this episode, we will talk about INFERIORITY COMPLEX. Basically, what it is and what to do or better put how to treat it.

We all have times when we feel inadequate or insufficient compared to others, whether that be because we failed to reach our goals at work, scored low on an exam, or feel less accomplished than our peers. As children, we might have compared ourselves next to the straight-A student, or classmates who were faster, or better at singing.

How To Rise From Defeat

How To Rise From Defeat

Too many people collapse in a heap when life knocks them down. They lie there with no apparent hope for the future. They become so consumed by the circumstance they find themselves in that they lose sight of their vision. They assume the door has been closed to their dream and that God wants them to move in a different direction. Imagine if a young child learning to walk adopted this thinking - they would never learn to walk. Why do we give up so easily on our dreams? Tough times will come, but they never last. Tough people do. You will be at the receiving end of some curveballs in life (guaranteed). Knowing this means you must make a decision on how you will respond before the circumstance or difficulty arises. Make a decision to get up every time life knocks you down. Expect to get up when life knocks you down; it’s the most natural thing to do.

How have you risen after defeat? What did you do to get back on your feet?

How can you turn negative energy into positive energy?

What breakthrough are you hoping for? What are you doing about it

How do you respond when faced with an obstacle that scares you?

How To Be Your Own Chief Wellbeing Officer

How To Be Your Own Chief Wellbeing Officer

In these unprecedented times, well-being isn’t something we can outsource. We all have the power to prioritize our mental and physical health.

It goes without saying that this has been a stressful year for everybody. We all have our unique challenges, and we all react to stress differently — but we can all benefit from strategies that make it easier to prioritize our well-being.

think everyone needs to take on this same leadership role when it comes to their own lives.

So what is well-being? For me, it means taking a holistic approach, focusing on body, mind, purpose, and financial health. The truth is, although we generally know what we should be doing to take care of ourselves, we often don’t do it. And that’s because we’re not strategic; we’re not intentional about it. But the problem is that with the pace of our modern lives, day after day gets away from us and we fall to the bottom of our priority list. Our tendency as human beings is to take care of everything and everyone else before taking care of ourselves.

And when we allow that to happen, we can pay a heavy price. Daily stress can become chronic stress, and before you know it, that can lead to burnout. But your path to realizing you need to nurture your own well-being doesn’t have to involve burning out first. The key is to create a mindful and intentional system for being in charge of your well-being.

I share with you 6 strategies you can deploy for you to be your own Chief Wellbeing Officer

The science behind a broken heart and How To Heal

The science behind a broken heart and How To Heal

Heartbreak is an unfortunately common part of the human experience, and it really, really sucks. We’ve all been there, and it’s safe to say we all want to avoid experiencing heartbreak ever again.

We feel heartbroken when we lose someone or something we loved or wanted very much, like a romantic relationship or a friendship, a family member, a pet, or a job or opportunity that was very important to us.

Heartbreak can cause a large amount of stress, especially if the loss is a sudden one. This stress can affect how we feel emotionally and physically and may take weeks, months or even years to recover from.

This episode shares with you how to handle heartbreaks and how to heal

7 Habits of Calmness

7 Habits of Calmness

This episode focuses on the 7 habits that can be practiced when stressed, anxious etc

I have come to believe that high stress, constant anxiety over tasks and work and life, social anxiety … is all a part of the modern way of life.

Most people just don’t feel a sense of peace, of calm, of serenity, throughout their day.

I have to admit that I’m the same way some of the time, but I have learned a few things that have helped me create a feeling of calmness much more of the time than ever before.

It’s a series of habits that have developed over the last few years. I’m not perfect at them, but I do practice them, and they are always helpful.

These are habits, not a one-time change in my surroundings or work pattern. Changing your environment is great, but you can’t control the things that happen to you much of the time, and you certainly can’t control how other people act. The only thing you can control is your response — and this response matters. You can respond to the same event with anxiety or anger, or you can respond with peace and calmness.

Let’s figure out how.
