In James Sire's prolific book, The Universe Next Door, he defines a worldview as, “a commitment, a fundamental orientation of the heart, that can be expressed as a story or in a set of presuppositions (assumptions which may be true, partially true or entirely false) which we hold (consciously or subconsciously, consistently or inconsistently) about the basic constitution of reality, and that provides the foundations on which we live and more and have our being.”
This means that EVERYONE who has ever been born has a worldview. On The Let's Get Real Podcast w/Rob Lundberg, Rob unpacks Dr. Sire's definition and shows how to evaluate a worldview based on 5-8 questions. Using just five questions: origin (where do I come from?), meaning (why am I here? or what is the purpose for my existence?), morality (where do right and wrong originate?), destiny (where am I going after this life is over?) and being (who am I?), Rob demonstrates that how many people have different answers to these questions and many of those answers are vastly different from everyone else's. But more importantly, he points out that in answering these five questions it is highly important that each of one's answers cohere with the answers of the previous question(s).
