Revive Ministries

Revive Ministries

By Robert Colón
Revive Ministries is essentially under the medical missionary umbrella focusing on emotional and mental well-being. In October 2019, we started podcasting. With 20+ hours of content, we learned many lessons. We are currently attempting to have a focused series each month.
"My Story of Recovery" is the original series, sharing stories of recovery from many different backgrounds and contexts.
"Robert's Corner" is a new series that discusses current events (like COVID-19) and how they impact our community, recovery, and wellness.

“Helping Relationships and Working With the At-Risk Population” with Ms. Hunte
Revive Ministries Podcast is excited to have Ms. Hunte as a guest. We explore the concept of helping relationships and how that pertains to working and helping those in recovery.  We are not islands, and we must be intentional to those who are suffering. Relationship matters and are a huge part of recovery. A resource that was mentioned: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255 Also, it was mentioned that primary care centers are adding a mental health wellness screening with patients, which is helping bridge the gap between physical health and mental health. Why Should We Care? Because we can't afford not too.

Robert’s Corner: “Socializing While Social Distancing” with Robert Colon
Welcome to Robert’s Corner! Today we will be talking about Covid-19 and how it impacts us socially today and, in turn, its impacts on our overall wellness. "If your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can’t have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far."  – Daniel Goleman How we think and feel and adapt in life is huge. My recovery wasn’t just one thing, but multiple things working together. Is it perfect? Nope. Looking at socializing, it can be hugely stressful with many unrealistic expectations. The late Bob Marley said it this way: "Truth is everybody is going to hurt you: you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for."  - Bob Marley At the same time, being super-careful won't help either. Fear has made us look at things with one solution. Social distancing is hard, sure, with Covid-19; but I would say social distancing and feeling isolated has always been a struggle for many--including me. Thank you again for listening to Robert’s Corner. Remember to check out new episodes at reviveministriesfl.com/podcast The website has been revamped, so I encourage you all to check it out. Robert's Corner: “Hope: During and After Covid-19”
Today on Robert’s Corner, I talk about hope and why it’s vital for our recovery during and after a storm like Covid-19. Hope is seen like something that happens after a storm takes a positive turn forward. However, that is not always the case for how things are today. Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, so if you are in crisis, please seek professional medical attention. I always like starting my episodes with a quote: “The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” - Winston Churchill Perception is an interesting thing. I said this in a previous episode that someone’s good news is another’s bad news. This month is Mental Health Month. Being a facilitator for NAMI, we know the last principle of support: “We never give up hope.” I find hope very useful in times of crisis and days like now. The idea of hope is fundamentally healing. It was a huge step to say that I am actually looking forward to what is next. Resources: https://www.whyaddicted.com/posts/why-we-need-hope-in-recovery Next week we will continue this journey deeper in hope and its impact on us, during and after the storm. The “storm” being COVID-19. Robert’s Corner: “Forgiving others through Covid-19”
Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast, on today’s episode of Robert’s Corner I will dive deeper into forgiveness through Covid-19. We will primarily focus on forgiving others and why it is important now. And How that may have an impact on our own wellness. Disclaimer I am not a Medical Professional so if you are in crisis please seek immediate medical attention. Forgiving others can be very helpful especially now. As we still observe caution in regards to Covid-19 it may be easy to cast blame or resentment on others who might have hurt you. With fear and suspicion being broadcast worldwide it may seem easier to hate or despise others who may have wronged you intentionally or not. Just like the quote, in the beginning, not allowing yourself to forgive will only compromise your own wellness. I encourage you to investigate forgiveness as a viable option for your wellness. It is a journey that helps Joann grow. We both explore priorities and how our experiences shape who we become. However, there is room for growth in experiences, and that is what Joann shares with us today. “Grief is like the ocean; it comes in waves ebbing and flowing. “Turning Points” with Robert Colón
Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast! Today I share a little more about my story of recovery--but this time, I share in more detail the turning point situations in my life that were monumental in where I  am now personally in my recovery. "Live life as though nobody is watching and express yourself as though everyone is listening." - Nelson Mandela I dive into a year before moving to Florida to now. I share what insight I have learned and how I have grown along the way. It's a shorter version of the My Story series, but an appropriate one. The first episode of My Story series was my personal story, covering chronologically where I have been and now. Knowing that my original My Story episode spanned decades, I decide to hone in a more concentrated story of a short segment, which ties storytelling with insightful lessons I have learned along the way. Periodically I may share a more focused story and insight into my journey through recovery, which will continue to develop as time continues. I do encourage to stay updated with current episodes of Revive Ministries Podcast at Reviveministriesfl.com/podcast. Revive Ministries Podcast is being ambitious to have three episodes of content a week: one My Story and two Roberts Corner episodes.
