Catch You Outdoors Episode #136
This podcast is all about sandbars. Yes, sandbars. This has become a big event down here in the Keys. Take your boat, or a charter, out to the local sandbar, anchor up and enjoy another beautiful day in the Keys.
Catch You Outdoors Episode #135
This is a short one, but full of information about some Keys happenings and a bunch of music stuff! Thanks in advance for listening.
Catch You Outdoors Episode #134
A good friend of mine from Fort Myers came down to the Keys for a visit and some fishing. Salty Cracker, aka Mark Starnes, used to join me often as a co-host on my radio show, so I thought it would be fun to have him join me on a podcast. Take a listen. Just like old times.
Catch You Outdoors Episode #133
Fishing in the Glades, along with observations about water quality and some general Keys information.
Catch You Outdoors Episode #132
Fishing! Finally! The winds let down and I had a great day on the water chasing fish. There was also a crocodile encounter!
Catch You Outdoors Episode #131
This episode is weak on fishing (lousy weather) but strong on Keys happenings. I also added a rundown about all 10 of the fantastic state parks located here in Florida Keys, so tune in!
Catch You Outdoors Episode #130
Fishing reports and tips along with recent happenings in the Florida Keys.
Catch You Outdoors #129
This week there are fishing reports, local Keys coverage, news from the Lorelei Restaurant and Cabana Bar, the Marathon Community Theater, the Marathon Seafood Festival and of course, Useless Information.
Catch You Outdoors Episode #128
This weeks episode includes some changes. Gone are the titles, and the coverage is now exclusively the Florida Keys. I'll cover fishing, dining, sightseeing and a rundown of events that make the Florida Keys special.
Marching Toward Spring
I am so ready for springtime and I'm betting my listeners are too! Not much fishing this week, but there is a report. Also covered the CCA Banquet and Auction and the Gigantic Nautical Market, both held last week in Islamorada.
Fishing Is Hard!
Yes, fishing can be tough, but I'd have to say it's worth the time spent in perfecting the sport. This title came from a talk I had with someone that was having a very difficult time learning to fish. So here are some of the tips I suggested.
Winter, Winter, Go Away
Yes, even down here in the Florida Keys I have reached the point where enough is enough. Go away winter and take your cloudy days, winds, and unusually low temperatures with you. Bring on the sunshine!
Cooking Your Catch
Yes indeed, this episode is all about cooking that fresh catch from the sea, whether you caught it, or perhaps bought it. Either way, there's nothing better than fresh seafood for dinner.
Another Week In The Keys
It was a busy week with trips to Key West and Islamorada, but not for fishing! Maybe next time. A concert instead, and a fishing seminar. Now its time to kick back and relax on island time.
Keys Cold Snap
Yes, cold fronts occasionally make their way to the Keys. We are forced to remove our flip-flops, put on layers of mismatched clothing and hunker down. Good thing it only last a day or two and it's right back to 80 degrees.
Watching Fishing
What do you do when you can't go fishing? You watch fishing. Yep, fishing shows.
Talk About Fishing
The title reflects what most anglers do when they can't go fishing, they talk about it. So here ya go, some fishing talk. However, there's a slight twist to this, so tune in.
Happy New Fishing Year
2024 has arrived and I'm wishing all of you many more fishing days than those done in 2023. This podcast has tips for winter fishing here in the Keys, and there's also a special surprise at the end of the podcast for the former listeners of my old ESPN radio show. Enjoy!
All Things Must Pass
2023 is moving on to 2024. It's been a pretty good year, but I'm looking forward to moving on to bigger and better things. Tune in and listen to my "sort of" resolutions.
Tis The Season -- Again
The holidays are upon us and a lot of folks are headed to the Keys. We've had some pretty awful weather this past week, so the question was asked, "What do we do when we can't go fishing?" I'll tell ya. And don't worry. Nasty weather doesn't last too long down this way.
Christmas Fishing in the Keys
Winter is here and the fishing is great in the Florida Keys. We are the lucky ones. When the temperatures begin to drop the fish down this way get active. Sailfish in the Atlantic, Spanish mackerel in the Gulf of Mexico and redfish in the backcountry. Take your pick and we'll see you on the water.
Life's Been Good
Life has been very good and also interesting. I'm always wondering what's around the bend. Thanks much for listening!
Way in the Way Back
Sometimes the best place to find fish in the Florida Keys is to take a boat trip into the far reaches of upper Florida Bay. What I call, way in the way back.
No Name Storm #3
Historically, only 2 previous "no name storms" are recognized by the National Weather Service. Well, we just experienced number 3 down here in Key Largo. It was quite the storm. 19.6 inches of rain in 24 hours and wind gust just off the coast were measured at 86 mph. After a couple of days of cleanup, everything seems to be back to normal and hurricane season ends on November 30th. Thank goodness.
Fishing Line
Want to know more about fishing line and why monofilament and braided lines are both good to use. Then tune in and listen.
Paradise Found
It's nice living in paradise. It has it ups and downs for some, but mostly ups for those of us living on a rock. This is an information filled episode and there's a bit of a surprise at the end. Thanks for listening!
More Random Thoughts
Yes indeed. The show notepad was full of bits and pieces, so it's time to get them all in one podcast. Thanks again for listening.
Location, Location, Location
A successful fishing trip is mostly about being in the right place at the right time. There are also many other parts to this equation and that's what this episode is about.
The Good Old Days
The good old days are usually thought of as times of the past. The days of growing up with glass instead of plastic. With milk delivered to your doorstep, and drinking water out of the hose. But my take is a bit different and that's what this week's podcast is about.
A Week of Fishing
This weeks podcast is almost all fishing. From new rules handed down by the FWC, recent fishing reports, both inshore and offshore, and a new lure I'm pretty excited to try.
Bridge Fishing in the Keys
When you don't have a boat or access to the water from shore, give bridge fishing a try here in the Florida Keys. There are lots of great places to wet a line and you never know what you might catch.
Another Season
Yes indeed. Season three of Catch You Outdoors is off and running! This episode is a highlight reel of the past two years along with some future plans for year three. Thanks to everyone for listening over the past two years!
End Of Season
The title is twofold. This is the last episode of season 2 on Catch You Outdoors. Season 3 begins next week. It's also a reference to the quiet time here in the Keys and other Florida locations with the end of summer. Locals get a breather.
Seventeen Hundred Islands
The title came about after reading an article that said the Florida Keys are made up of 1700 islands. I kind of doubted that, but then found evidence that that's actually a pretty good number. In this podcast are also some observations of why people come to the Keys, continue to come, and sometimes don't go home. We many soon need 1700 islands to hold them all.
Jimmy Buffett
Jimmy Buffett's passing hit me kind of hard. I've been a long time fan. Yep, since 1973. This podcast is a bit of reminiscing about his music and the amazing sendoff he was given in Key West on Sunday September 3rd.
Weather in the Keys
This one is a bit shorter than most, but what I have to say about the weather down here in the Keys can be said like this... It's nice.
Fishing & Boats
More in-depth fishing tips for the Florida Keys and some preventative care tips for boats. Also... why is a Jamaica Dogwood tree called a dogwood?
Another Week In Paradise
Key West, Part 2. Yes, we returned with more adventures and advice for visitors. Also fishing tips for the summer heat in the Florida Keys.
Quiet Time Has Arrived
August is upon us and the tourist are mostly headed home. It's time for the kids to go back to school. Also included this week is a rundown of all the fun I had touring my vacationing daughter and granddaughter around the Keys, both on land and on water. And finally, a mini rant about personal water craft.
Florida Keys Observations
I moved to Key Largo one year ago in August and I thought I'd pass along some of my observations about what it's like to live here, instead of just visiting.
Fishing Vacations, Florida Keys Style
Summer vacations are going by fast, and I know that many parents are looking for things to do to keep the kiddies busy. What could be better than a fishing vacation for the family down this way, in the Florida Keys? Here's some ideas and suggestions for making the most of your visit.
How to Survive the Heat
Yes, it's hot outside. Of course it is. It's JULY! Tune in for ways to beat the heat, some fishing reports, and things to do in the Florida Keys. No one wants to stay inside.
Mix Mash of Thoughts
There's a lot of news happening down in the Keys. A bit of fishing, underwater music, lifejackets, spiny lobster mini-season, and much more. Thanks for listening!
A Guides Life
When fishing guides get together there's a lot of talk about past trips, fishing tips and how they survived out there on the water. It's a tough life and a good life, all at the same time.
All Around the Florida Keys
Continuing my slight format change to multi subject vs. one major on each podcast. This one does have a spotlight on books, some about fishing and some about the outdoors. I've also included fishing reports, happenings, and tide and moon phases.
Florida Hideouts
Have you ever wanted to just get away from all the noise and problems that seem to pile up each week. I've made a list of the small hideaways where you can stay and do just that. Also some news about formatting of future podcast. There's more time to play, so I'm going there.
Do Your Part - Don't Be Trashy
When I'm on the water, or on the beach, I always seem to see someone else's tossed trash. I honestly don't know why there are so many folks that can't seem to take trash home with them and dispose of it properly. This podcast is about respecting the outdoors and specifically doing your part to help to keep Florida's land and water clean. Yeah, I have to get on the soapbox every now and then.
Movies Filmed in the Florida Keys
After watching a war movie on Turner Classic Movies over the Memorial Day weekend, I was surprised to find out it was filmed, almost entirely, in the Florida Keys. So, I searched for others and that led to this podcast. Hope you enjoy listening.
