Book Review: A Magnificent Catastrophe by Edward J. Larson
I am not including this book review in my monthly book review episode because there is far too much to interact with. To do this book justice I needed to create a longer episode exposing some of the helpful things it gets into. I hope you learn something and walk away with some thoughts whether you agree or not! The Centrality of the Gospel
This Sunday Bryce and I walk through the Gospel, the doctrine of first importance to the Christian. We must get the Gospel and we must believe in that correct Gospel to be saved, for no other gospel has the power to save! Thanks for listening and tuning in to the For The King podcast! “This is why Paul upholds the teaching of the gospel in such a forceful way ... Seeing such an example and such a picture of man’s great weakness and fickleness, Paul states that the truth of the gospel must supersede anything that we may devise … he is showing us that we ought to know the substance of the doctrine which is brought to us in the name of God, so that our faith can be fully grounded upon it. Then we will not be tossed about with every wind, nor will we wander about aimlessly, changing our opinions a hundred times a day; we will persist in this doctrine until the end. This, in brief, is what we must remember.” ― John Calvin, Sermons on Galatians Key Texts: Romans 1: 1-4, 16 ; 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4 My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Bryce is getting his undergraduate degree in philosophy and hopes to get his MDiv. from a seminary after he completes his undergrad. He hopes to be a pastor shepherding Gods people one day. Masculinity & Femininity Everywhere Else
This Sunday we finish our series on Biblical Gender Roles. We have seen how gender roles apply in homes and churches, but to keep ourselves consistent with what scripture teaches, we must extend its application to the civil sphere and beyond as well. God has designed the world a certain way. Gods word, logic, reasoning, mathematics, etc. are all used in God's world. They help guide us and are used in every walk of life. Thus, is it no different for gender roles, they apply in all scenarios. Thanks for listening and enjoy! Key Texts: Isaiah 3:12; Deuteronomy 22:5; Nahum 3:13 My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Analysis of First Wave Feminism
Bryce has abandoned me to the pit. I will rouse myself and hold fast to the LORD in this trial, he will help me to fly SOLO this week on the For The King podcast. We have been slowly walking through a biblical worldview when considering gender roles. This week I use Zach Garris' book as a resource to quote a few feminist from he 1st wave in the 1850's. They knew what the bible CLEARLY taught about biblical gender roles and by golly did they hate it. I labor to expose you all to what they said about biblical principles and analyze what has caused them to say such things. Lets not let the feminist understand what the bible clearly teaches about the patriarchy be more robust and accurate than ours... *ahem* egalitarians/complementarians *ahem*. Masculinity & Femininity in the Church
This week Bryce and I continue to walk through biblical masculinity and femininity. We move first, after defining our terms three weeks ago, to the home, and now to the church. The church is the bulwark against an evil and God-hating world. The church has been tasked with the proclamation of the gospel through public gathering and worship of God and sending families out into our communities to win the nations to Christ. For the organization to run well God has instituted certain members of his church to be leaders and servants of the church known as elders and deacons. This week bryce and I walk through how masculinity and femininity play out in the church. Certain men being the leaders and the rest of the men and women to follow them who ultimately follow Christ. Thanks for tuning in! I hope you are continuing to enjoy the series that is so needed in our culture. Key Texts: Isaiah 3:12 ; 1 Corinthians 11:5, 14:33-35 ; Philippians 4:2-3 ; 1 Timothy 2:8-15, 3:1-13, 5:10 ; Titus 1:5-9, 2:3-5 Resources : Masculine Christianity by Zach Garris The Household and the War for the Cosmos by C.R Wiley Article by Zach Garris (https://knowingscripture.com/articles/the-womans-desire-and-the-mans-rule-genesis-3-16) Blog by Doug Wilson (https://dougwils.com/books-and-culture/s7-engaging-the-culture/masculinity-without-permission.html) My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Masculinity & Femininity in the Home
This week Bryce and I continue to walk through biblical masculinity and femininity. We move first, after defining our terms two weeks ago, to the home. The home is the foundational unit for all of society. For the church, businesses, civil government, all of society. So, we plant our anchor in the home where men and women have specific roles they play out, without which all of society will collapse. Tune in this week to see what God's word has to tell us about how men and women act in a home. Book Review (August) : The Fear of God by John Bunyan
"When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments." - 2 Timothy 4:13 “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and they that lack the beginning have neither middle nor end.” - John Bunyan “Though there is not always grace where there is the fear of hell, yet, to be sure, there is no grace where there is no fear of God.” ― John Bunyan. This episode I walk through The Fear of God by John Bunyan. It was a wonderful read and something definitely worth picking up. The contemporary church doesn't speak much about the fear of God, but I assure you that after reading this book by Bunyan you will be well informed. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Learning to fear God rightly is fruit that every Christian ought to bear. Thanks for listening! Defining Biblical Masculinity & Femininity
This week on the Sunday Series, Bryce and I begin a new series on gender roles as defined by the creation order in the bible. Gender is thought to be a social construct that changes with society/culture. Biblically we know that our gender, and the gender roles inherent in each gender, are defined by God alone and not mankind. Gender does not change and Gender roles do not change. God has told us what these things are and how we ought to think about them. The human mind is spectacular but not spectacular enough to undo the things God has already put into us. The weeks following, Bryce and I will continue to walk through biblical gender roles and how Christians ought to think about them based on various passages in the bible. Thanks so much for listening, we hope it glorifies God and edifies you! Interview: Zach Garris, Author of Masculine Christianity
This Wonky Wednesday I interview author, attorney, writer, and follower of Christ Zach Garris. Zach holds a Master of Divinity from RTS (Jackson) and a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School. He has written for Chronicles Magazine, the Mises Institute, and Desiring God. He edited a book call "Dabney on Fire", writes at KnowingScripture.com and manages another website TeachDiligently.com. He wrote the book "Masculine Christianity" which is what the interview is over. In this interview, we walk through the book to get a few big picture points that Christians ought to consider moving forward in America. Feminism, Egalitarianism, Complementarianism, and Biblical Patriarchy are just a few topics in this episode. Biblical roles of men and women are always rooted in the creation order and not some cultural norm. Enjoy the episode and thanks so much for listening! The Object in Objectivity
Recently, Bryce and I walked through why the theory of relativity, not Einstein's theory ;), is a foolish and contradictory worldview to hold. This week Bryce and I press the issue further with a short talk objectivity and why it is precious for the Christian to cling to. One of Christianity's most prevalent form of relativism is emotionalism in the Church. Bryce and I use emotionalism as a case study for relativism in the church. Enjoy and thanks for listening! Book Review (July) : John Macarthur Handbook of Effective Biblical Leadership
2 Timothy 4:13 : "When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments." When Paul is requesting what Timothy do when he comes back to him from his journey, he requests books and parchments. Who knows exactly what Paul was reading outside of the scriptures, but we do know that he valued books greatly. Gods word is given to us in books and books have been a conduit for information all throughout human history. This book review, I was only able to read one book this month. The Myth Of Relativism
“A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God's truth is attacked and yet would remain silent” ― John Calvin “There are no facts, only interpretations.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche So many people think that the buck stops with them when it comes to truth and reality. An often refrain in our society is, "This is my truth", which tells us a lot of what our postmodern society thinks about truth. Something may very well be true to you and you may very well believe it but that does not mean that is is true. Truth is something external to us. The scriptures paint a clear picture that truth is objective and external to human experience or interpretation. An author always has an intent in something that they do because the intent is what drives the action itself. There is a true reality to all things and we know that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Join Bryce and I this week as we display what God has told us about what truth is and interact with our cultures claim of truth being relative.  Key Texts: John 1:9-10; 8:12; 8:44-45; 14:6; 17:17,   All of 1 John and 3 John Psalm 119:160 Resources: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/relativism/ -> Defining our terms (do not endorse all information) https://open.spotify.com/episode/0MHUfG0XJRw1NzMDR7qLis?si=rbkAOsldRXKfwRd9WsE1Zw&dl_branch=1 -> Another podcast on the topic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZDeQBIX7r4 -> Arguments against subjectivism https://newlearningonline.com/new-learning/chapter-7/nietzsche-on-the-impossibility-of-truth -> Intro to some post-modern thought My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Society's Bane: Homosexuality
This week, my guest (Bryce) and I dive into the second part of a two part series concerning effeminacy in men. The first part was geared more towards soft, weak, effeminate men in our society and that behavior being condemned in scripture. This week we dive into effeminacy in its fruition, namely homosexuality. This sin has been welcomed and invited in our evangelical Christian circles in America. The church has largely capitulated on this issue and terms such as "gay Christian" are now commonplace even in "reformed" circles. The scriptures are extremely clear on the topic although our culture would war against it. Christians cannot serve two masters. Thanks for listening! Effeminate Men
One sin that has flown under the radar for a considerable amount of time in our society is the sin of effeminacy in men. Today Bryce and I make a biblical case on why this is indeed a sin for a man to be effeminate and what effeminacy can look like in society. We walk through practical steps to overcome such sinfulness and how to be watchful against it in our own lives as men.  Zachary Garris : Masculine Christianity  San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus Video -> Biblical response to that video Key Texts: 1 Corinthians 6:9; 16:13, Deuteronomy 22:5, Matthew 11:7-9 My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Freedom in Christ
William Wallace: [Deliberately.] I am William Wallace, and I see a whole army of my countrymen, here, in defiance of Tyranny. You’ve come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What will you do without freedom? Will you fight? [Shouts of denial from the crowd.]  Blonde Soldier: Fight? Against that? No! [Members of the Scottish army shout in agreement.] We will run! And we will live.  William Wallace: Aye. Fight and you may die. Run, and you’ll live...at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days, from this day to that, for one chance – just one chance – to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives [With growing excitement] but they’ll never take our freedom!  This week Bryce and I explore the idea of freedom in the scriptures. Some of our favorite moments in film and history involve individuals fighting for freedom. Christ is the ultimate freedom fighter and is the model that all other freedom fighters, knowingly or unknowingly, model when they give their lives for the sake of freedom.   Definition of freedom 1: the quality or state of being free: such as a: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action  Key Texts: John 8:32,35-36; Galatians 4:1-7,9,21-31; 5:1,13-15; Romans 6:15-23; 8:2,21; Revelation 12:10-12  Resources: https://www.ligonier.org/blog/why-do-christians-love-law/  My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Today, on the For The King podcast, I am joined with one of my good friends. Keagan and I met at college during our undergraduate careers and we soon became good friends doing lots of random things together. Today Keagan and I continue on our discussion of our worldviews, mainly talking about the problem of evil in the world and the evils that many people charge Christians with. This episode is more of a debate/dialogue than the first part of this interview. Tune in and hear Keagan espouse his beliefs and I mine. We both take time to defend our views and press each other on some of the points that we disagree with the other. Thank you for listening! Please check out Keagan's podcast! Man-stealing was a crime punishable by death, a command unheard of in the ancient near east, yet the bible institutes such a law. This topic was touched on in another episode, "the uniqueness of America".  Remember, the first society to every formally and universally outlaw slavery in legislation is the United States of America. This had nothing to do with our intelligence but EVERYTHING to do with us being a Christian nation. Atheism cannot be accounted for ever freeing any humans from any bondage ever. Thanks for listening!  Romans 6:16-23 “Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Website: forthekingpodcast.com Inquiries: forthekingpodcast@gmail.com

Interview: Keagan, an Agnostic Atheist (part 2)
Today, on the For The King podcast, I am joined with one of my good friends. Keagan and I met at college during our undergraduate careers and we soon became good friends doing lots of random things together. Today Keagan and I continue on our discussion of our worldviews. This episode is more of a debate/dialogue than the first part of this interview. Tune in and hear Keagan espouse his beliefs and I mine. We both take time to defend our views and press each other on some of the points that we disagree with the other. Thank you for listening! Please check out Keagan's podcast! Q/A With a Friend: Can the Bible be Trusted?
This week, I am joined with a few friends of mine. Matt got his degree in supply chain management and had some questions for us today concerning the validity of the bible and the Christian worldview. Religion & Science (Part 1)
This Wednesday, I dive into the ideas of a very famous agnostic/scientist/mathematician/philosopher named Bertrand Russell. Russell was a brilliant man with a great understanding of the natural world. Sadly, he decided that truth for him was that there was no good reason to believe that there is a God, or that the mind survives the death of the body. He was famous for his agnosticism and criticism of religion. He dealt mainly with Christianity but deals with the question of a monotheistic God in general. This book is a look into the history of religion and the onset of Christianity. I do not labor to pick out a lot of quotes from the book, but rather a few of the big ideas from each chapter and interact directly with those ideas. My goal here is to show the flaw in his logic and thinking that made him critical of religion. Nothing in the book would point one away from religion in my opinion. This episode is part 1 of a 2 part series I am doing on the book.  The Book -> Pick it up here Russell's views  Highlights of Russell's works John Lennox on Religion and Science Website : forthekingpodcast.com Inquiries to : forthekingpodcast@gmail.com Zach's Blog: https://speakingbasictruth.wordpress.com/                   Alex's Blog: https://roughdraftab.substack.com/people/27886653-alex-brown

Christology: The Pre-Incarnate Christ
Christology is defined as the "the branch of Christian theology relating to the person, nature, and role of Christ." In this new edition of the Sunday Series, Bryce and I dive deep into what God's word can tell us about the person of Christ. He did come as a man and his work and ministry as a man is a central focus in Christian Theology, but we must remember Jesus' own claims about his divinity and equality with God as the second person in the trinity. We will dive this episode into the pre-incarnate Christ. He fully existed well before he was a man. Key Texts: John 1:1-5, Colossians 1:15-20, Hebrews 1:1-3, Jude 1:5, John 8:48-59, Matthew 22:44, Revelation 1:8, Genesis 18, Daniel 10, Zechariah 3 More Information: https://www.standstrongministries.org/articles/the-preexistence-of-the-pre-incarnate-christ/ https://www.ligonier.org/learn/devotionals/angel-lord/ Send Inquiries to forthekingpodcast@gmail.com or visit forthekingpodcast.com

There is a God, and You Are Not Him
Today, we describe timeless Christian truths laid out to us in the very first chapter of the bible. Those of all ages, even young children can understand some of the great realities laid out in the bible. For one, there is a God, and God created ex nihilo (out of nothing). He made mankind in his own image, having dominion over the earth and he created them with two genders, male and female. Our culture would war against the bible, even starting in chapter one! Enjoy our conversation about God's holiness and sovereignty on display, even in the very first chapter of the bible Key Texts: Genesis 1 forthekingpodcast@gmail.com forthekingpodcast.com

Just War Theory : An Introduction
Joined with me this week is my pastor, Nate and an intern at the church Trent answering the question, Can war ever be justified? What is the Just-War Tradition? How have Christians thought about war historically? Can a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, be a soldier with a clear conscious? Why has the just war tradition been lost on so many Christians in the last 100 years? There are many questions to be asked on the topic of war for Christians! We answer all of these and hit on even more things about this precious ethical tradition throughout church history. Learn about the line of thinking that great thinkers like Augustine, Martin Luther, and many others have taken throughout church history. John Howard Yoder is the pacifist that is quoted many times in this book. Conversations With An Ebullient Natural Law Theorist
How far can natural law stretch in society? What is the use of natural law to the Christian? Natural law are the laws that are self-evident to all humans as being endowed by their creator by virtue of their being made in God's image, however, this law is only as good as it matches up to revealed laws of God found in scripture. Christians should understand natural law but it has been lost to 21st century Christianity almost entirely. Hopefully this will help get you started in understanding such an important topic. Some application of natural law include, rights afforded to mankind, international law, laws of war, etc. Key Texts: Romans 1,2 and 10 Inquiries to forthekingpodcast@gmail.com

Irresistible Grace (TULIP part 4)
"The drawing is not like that of the executioner, who draws the thief up the ladder to the gallows; but is a gracious allurement, such as that of the man whom everybody loves, and to whom everybody willing goes." - Martin Luther God so calls as He allures; He does not force, but draw. The freedom of the will is not taken away, but the stubbornness of it is conquered. ‘Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power’ (Psalm 110:3). “All Things for Good” pg. 107  -Thomas Watson "No man ever believes with a true and saving faith unless God inclines his heart; and no man when God does incline his heart can refrain from believing".  -Blaise Pascal “How is it more for the glory of God to save man irresistibly, than to save him as a free agent, by such grace as he may either concur or resist?” - John Wesley My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Unconditional Election (TULIP part 2)
"At the very announcement of the text some will be ready to say, 'Why preach upon so profound a doctrine as election?' I answer, because it is in God’s word, and whatever is in the Word of God is to be preached." "I believe the doctrine of election, because I am quite certain that, if God had not chosen me, I should never have chosen Him; and I am sure He chose me before I was born, or else He never would have chosen me afterwards; and He must have elected me for reasons unknown to me, for I never could find in myself why He should have looked upon me with special love. So I am forced to accept that great Biblical doctrine." "Whatever may be said about the doctrine of election, it is written in the Word of God as with an iron pen, and there is no getting rid of it. To me, it is one of the sweetest and most blessed truths in the whole of revelation, and those who are afraid of it are so because they do not understand it. If they could but know that the Lord had chosen them, it would make their hearts dance for joy." - Charles Haddon Spurgeon My guest joining me this week on the Sunday series is my brother Bryce. Each point of Calvinism has about 5 pages on the topic so its a real quick 15 minute read for each episode in this series.  Further Reading: Calvin's Institutes, The Grace of Godliness: An Introduction to Doctrine and Piety in the Canons of Dort by Matthew Barrett, Chosen by God by R.C. The telling statement in this article is, "Unfortunately, if we grant the first point, then the other four points can easily be proven as true, thus acknowledging that Calvinism is in fact true" This whole episode that we did concerns the first point so if you accept the logic of this episode and the hermeneutic of the texts involved then we are in for a wild ride :D Sunday Series Episode #5 listener interaction: forthekingpodcast@gmail.com Website still coming...eventually :)

Bryce is getting his undergraduate degree in philosophy and hopes to get his MDiv. from a seminary after he completes his undergrad. He hopes to be a pastor shepherding Gods people one day. The Uniqueness of America
"The truth is, politics and morality are inseparable. And as morality's foundation is religion, religion and politics are necessarily related. We need religion as a guide; we need it because we are imperfect. And our government needs the church because only those humble enough to admit they are sinners can bring to democracy the tolerance it requires in order to survive." - Ronald Reagan  Joining me this week is Noah, a close friend of mine.
