Sunday 24 October 2021 | "What do you want me to do for you?"
22nd Sunday after Pentecost Theme: Then Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" COLLECT Merciful Lord, you heard the cry of the blind beggar when others would have silenced him: give us courage to be persistent in prayer, to ask plainly what we need and to follow where you lead; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen READING from Job 42: 1-6, 10-17 Then Job answered the Lord. 2 I know, Lord, that you are all-powerful; that you can do everything you want. 3 You ask how I dare question your wisdom when I am so very ignorant. I talked about things I did not understand, about marvels too great for me to know. 4 You told me to listen while you spoke and to try to answer your questions. 5 In the past I knew only what others had told me, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. 6 So I am ashamed of all I have said and repent in dust and ashes. 10 Then, after Job had prayed for his three friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had had before. READING from Hebrews 7: 23-28 26 Jesus, then, is the High Priest that meets our needs. He is holy; he has no fault or sin in him; he has been set apart from sinners and raised above the heavens. 27 He is not like other high priests; he does not need to offer sacrifices every day for his own sins first and then for the sins of the people. He offered one sacrifice, once and for all, when he offered himself. 28 The Law of Moses appoints men who are imperfect to be high priests; but God's promise made with the vow, which came later than the Law, appoints the Son, who has been made perfect forever. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 10: 46-52 46 They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 48 Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 49 Jesus stood still and said, "Call him here." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart; get up, he is calling you." PRAYER for COVID Author of life, Saviour of the nations COVID is humbling, your grace is sufficient. The deaths, we mourn; For the recoveries, we give thanks; The compassionate care, we applaud; For the vaccines, we are grateful; For compliance, we plead; For the common good, we pray; In the healing name of Jesus. Amen © Rodney Whiteman – 29/04/2021. BENEDICTION Go out with your eyes opened to the presence of God and follow Jesus on the way. Drink in the richness of God and enjoy the strength of the Lord. And may God give you a long and full life; May Christ Jesus open your eyes to the wonder of life; and may the Holy Spirit fill you with the faith that makes you whole. COMMISSIONING/SENDING Go in peace with courage, to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.

Sunday 17 October 2021 | Made eager to give lovi g service
21st Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT Lord Jesus Christ, you came among us as the servant of all: overturn our wrongful pride and make us eager to serve our brothers and sisters with the loving self-sacrifice. for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen READING Job 38: 1-7 2 Who are you to question my wisdom with your ignorant, empty words? 3 Now stand up straight and answer the questions I ask you. 4 Were you there when I made the world? If you know so much, tell me about it. 5 Who decided how large it would be? Who stretched the measuring line over it? Do you know all the answers? 6 What holds up the pillars that support the earth? Who laid the cornerstone of the world? READING Hebrews 5: 1-10 Every high priest is chosen from his fellow men and appointed to serve God on their behalf, to offer sacrifices and offerings for sins. 2 Since he himself is weak in many ways, he is able to be gentle with those who are ignorant and make mistakes. 4 No one chooses for himself the honour of being a high priest. It is only by God's call that a man is made a high priest—just as Aaron was. 5 In the same way, Christ did not take upon himself the honour of being a high priest. Instead, God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” 6 He also said in another place, “You will be a priest forever, in the priestly order of Melchizedek.” GOSPEL Mark 10: 35-45 35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." 36 And he said to them, "What is it you want me to do for you?" 37 And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." 38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" 39 They replied, "We are able." Then Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." 42 So Jesus called them and said to them, "You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. 43 But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. PRAYER FOR COVID Author of life, Saviour of the nations COVID is humbling, your grace is sufficient. Amen © Rodney Whiteman – 29/04/2021. BENEDICTION Go now with the words of your high priest in your ears: “You are a forgiven people.” Though Christ has welcomed you to his table, do not lord it over others. Strive not to be served, but to serve, and pray, with cries and tears, for the salvation of all. And may God be present to you in times of trial; May Christ Jesus pray for you and secure your forgiveness; and may the Holy Spirit fill you with hope and humility. COMMISSIONING/SENDING Go in peace with courage, to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.

Sunday 10 October 2021 | Theme: Excellent gift of love
20th Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us that without love whatever we do is worthless: pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love without which whoever lives is counted dead before you; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit one God, forever and ever. Amen READING from Job 23: 1-9, 16-17 3 How I wish I knew where to find him and knew how to go where he is. 4 I would state my case before him and present all the arguments in my favour. 5 I want to know what he would say and how he would answer me. 6 Would God use all his strength against me? No, he would listen as I spoke. 8 I have searched in the East, but God is not there; I have not found him when I searched in the West. 9 God has been at work in the North and the South, but still I have not seen him. 16-17 Almighty God has destroyed my courage. It is God, not the dark, that makes me afraid— even though the darkness has made me blind. READING from Hebrews 4: 12-16 12 The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet, to where joints and marrow come together. It judges the desires and thoughts of the heart. 13 There is nothing that can be hid from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes. And it is to him that we must all give an account of ourselves. 14 Let us, then, hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we have a great High Priest who has gone into the very presence of God—Jesus, the Son of God. 15 Our High Priest is not one who cannot feel sympathy for our weaknesses. On the contrary, we have a High Priest who was tempted in every way that we are, but did not sin. 16 Let us have confidence, then, and approach God's throne, where there is grace. There we will receive mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 10: 17-31 17 As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 18 Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. 19 You know the commandments: 'You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honour your father and mother.'" 20 He said to him, "Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth." 21 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." 22 When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions. Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!" 24 And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." 26 They were greatly astounded and said to one another, "Then who can be saved?" 27 Jesus looked at them and said, "For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible." PRAYER FOR COVID Author of life, Saviour of the nations COVID is humbling, your grace is sufficient. BENEDICTION Go now in the confidence of people who have found mercy. 19th Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT O Holy Trinity, you are the unity of love: keep in love those who are born to each other and sustain the love of those who choose one another that all will flourish in the security you intend; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen Jesus, who raised the dead to life Help us to find ways to renew what we have broken, damaged and destroyed in our common home. Give hope to those working for a greener future. For you live and reign in the unity of the blessed Trinity one God now and forever. Amen. READING from Job 1: 1; 2: 1-10 There was a man named Job, living in the land of Uz, who worshiped God and was faithful to him. He was a good man, careful not to do anything evil. When the day came for the heavenly beings to appear before the Lord again, Satan was there among them. 2 The Lord asked him, “Where have you been?” Satan answered, “I have been walking here and there, roaming around the earth.” 3 “Did you notice my servant Job?” the Lord asked. “There is no one on earth as faithful and good as he is. He worships me and is careful not to do anything evil. You persuaded me to let you attack him for no reason at all, but Job is still as faithful as ever.” 4 Satan replied, “A person will give up everything in order to stay alive. 5 But now suppose you hurt his body—he will curse you to your face!” 6 So the Lord said to Satan, “All right, he is in your power, but you are not to kill him.” READING from Hebrews 1: 1-4; 2: 5-12 In the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one through whom God created the universe, the one whom God has chosen to possess all things at the end. 3 He reflects the brightness of God's glory and is the exact likeness of God's own being, sustaining the universe with his powerful word. After achieving forgiveness for the sins of all human beings, he sat down in heaven at the right side of God, the Supreme Power. 4 The Son was made greater than the angels, just as the name that God gave him is greater than theirs. 5 God has not placed the angels as rulers over the new world to come—the world of which we speak. 6 Instead, as it is said somewhere in the Scriptures: “What are human beings, O God, that you should think of them; mere human beings, that you should care for them? THE GOSPEL according to Mark 10: 2-16 2 Some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" 3 He answered them, "What did Moses command you?" 4 They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her." 5 But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you. 6 But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.' 7 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." PRAYER FOR COVID Author of life, Saviour of the nations COVID is humbling, your grace is sufficient. Sunday 26 September 2021 | Heritage Day
18th Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT Mysterious God: Reveal the narrowness of our blinded sight, and make us aware of all who serve your purposes so that together we will celebrate the glory of your reign; Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen God, creator of the universe: Fill us with your love for the whole of creation, Awake in us the passion to work for your world with passion and boldness Lift us up on eagles’ wings, so that we may not be overwhelmed by the task ahead. In the power of the Holy Spirit who renews the face of the Earth. Amen. READING from Esther 7: 1-6, 9-10, 9: 20-22 1 And so the king and Haman went to eat with Esther 2 for a second time. Over the wine the king asked her again, “Now, Queen Esther, what do you want? Tell me and you shall have it. I'll even give you half the empire.” 3 Queen Esther answered, “If it please Your Majesty to grant my humble request, my wish is that I may live and that my people may live. 4 My people and I have been sold for slaughter. If it were nothing more serious than being sold into slavery, I would have kept quiet and not bothered you about it; but we are about to be destroyed—exterminated!” 5 Then King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, “Who dares to do such a thing? Where is this man?” 6 Esther answered, “Our enemy, our persecutor, is this evil man Haman!” Haman faced the king and queen with terror. 10 So Haman was hanged on the gallows that he had built for Mordecai. Then the king's anger cooled down. 20 Mordecai had these events written down and sent letters to all the Jews, near and far, throughout the Persian Empire, 21 telling them to observe the fourteenth and fifteenth days of Adar as holidays every year. 22 These were the days on which the Jews had rid themselves of their enemies; this was a month that had been turned from a time of grief and despair into a time of joy and happiness. They were told to observe these days with feasts and parties, giving gifts of food to one another and to the poor. Reading from James 5: 13-20 19 My friends, if any of you wander away from the truth and another one brings you back again, 20 remember this: whoever turns a sinner back from the wrong way will save that sinner's soul from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 9: 38-50 41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward. 42 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” PRAYER FOR COVID Author of life, Saviour of the nations COVID is humbling, your grace is sufficient. Sunday 19 September 2021 | Season of Creation: Ecumenism
Theme: Ecumenism COLLECT God of the living earth You called us to be part of your beloved community, baptised into one family through the sacred waters of life called to care together for your world. Guide as we work to sustain our common home. Help us to find the path to living in peace and harmony with all your creatures united by the divine dance of the Trinity. Amen. Reading from Proverbs 31: 10-23 10 How hard it is to find a capable wife! She is worth far more than jewels! 11 Her husband puts his confidence in her, and he will never be poor. 20 She is generous to the poor and needy. 25 She is strong and respected and not afraid of the future. 26 She speaks with a gentle wisdom. 27 She is always busy and looks after her family's needs. 28 Her children show their appreciation, and her husband praises her. 30 Charm is deceptive and beauty disappears, but a woman who honours the Lord should be praised. 31 Give her credit for all she does. She deserves the respect of everyone. Reading from James 3: 13-18 13 Are there any of you who are wise and understanding? You are to prove it by your good life, by your good deeds performed with humility and wisdom. 14 But if in your heart you are jealous, bitter, and selfish, don't sin against the truth by boasting of your wisdom. 15 Such wisdom does not come down from heaven; it belongs to the world; it is unspiritual and demonic. 16 Where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is also disorder and every kind of evil. 18 And goodness is the harvest that is produced from the seeds the peacemakers plant in peace. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 9: 30-37 33 Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the way?" 34 But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. 35 He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all." 36 Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, 37 "Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me." Theme: Ecology - Protecting our common home COLLECT Jesus, redeemer of our common home and provider for all of creation; Teach us to value the habitats of all your creatures given into our care, so that we can preserve the world in all of its diversity Inspire us to value your precious gifts and never to take more than we can give, for you live and reign in the diversity of the Blessed Trinity, Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Amen. Reading from Proverbs 1: 20-23 20 Wisdom cries out in the street; in the squares she raises her voice. 21 At the busiest corner she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates, she speaks: 22 "How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? 23 Give heed to my reproof; I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you. Reading from James 3: 5-6, 8-10 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits. 6 And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets on fire the cycle of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. 8 but no one can tame the tongue--a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 8: 27-38 27 Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" 28 And they answered him, "John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets." 29 He asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered him, "You are the Messiah." 30 And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him. 31 Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT Collect O God of love your embrace includes everyone: open our hearts and minds to your generous will That in what we say and do we proclaim Christ’s love And serve the needs of our neighbours; Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen. Reading from Proverbs 22:1-2, 8-9, 22-23 1 If you have to choose between a good reputation and great wealth, choose a good reputation. 2 The rich and the poor have this in common: the LORD made them both. Reading from James 2: 1-10, 5 Listen, my dear friends! God chose the poor people of this world to be rich in faith and to possess the kingdom which he promised to those who love him. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 7: 24-37 24 From there he set out and went away to the region of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know he was there. Yet he could not escape notice, 25 but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet. 26 Now the woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 He said to her, "Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." 28 But she answered him, "Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." 29 Then he said to her, "For saying that, you may go--the demon has left your daughter." Creator of All, we are grateful that from your communion of love you created our planet to be a home for all. By your Holy Wisdom you made the Earth to bring forth a diversity of living beings that filled the soil, water and air. Each part of creation praises you in their being, and cares for one another from our place in the web of life. With the Psalmist, we sing your praise that in your house “even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young.” We remember that you call human beings to keep your garden in ways that honour the dignity of each creature and conserve their place in the abundance of life on Earth. But we know that our will to power pushes the planet beyond her limits. Our consumption is out of harmony and rhythm with Earth’s capacity to heal herself. Habitats are left barren or lost. Species are lost and systems fail. Where reefs and burrows, mountaintops and ocean deeps once teemed with life and relationships, wet and dry deserts lie empty, as if uncreated. Human families are displaced by insecurity and conflict, migrating in search of peace. Animals flee fires, deforestation and famine, wandering in search of a new place to find a home to lay their young and live. In this Season of Creation, we pray that the breath of your creative Word would move our hearts, as in the waters of our birth and baptism. Give us faith to follow Christ to our just place in the beloved community. Enlighten us with the grace to respond to your covenant and call to care for our common home. In our tilling and keeping, gladden our hearts to know that we participate with your Holy Spirit to renew the face of your Earth, and safeguard a home for all. In the name of the One who came to proclaim good news to all creation, Jesus Christ. BLESSING Go out in love, reconciled to one another in Christ. Lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armour of light. Live honourably, fulfilling the law through love for all. And may God mark you out for salvation; May Christ Jesus be present among you always, And may the Holy Spirit reconcile you to one another and fulfil the law of love among you. 14th Sunday after Pentecost Collect O God of eternal light, your word is truth: make us quick to listen and slow to speak that the word implanted in us will take root to nourish all we say and do; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen READING James 1:17-27 19 Remember this, my beloved brethren: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow to anger. 20 For human anger does not bring about the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore, rid yourselves of everything sordid and of every wicked excess, and welcome in all humility the word that is implanted in you and is able to save your souls. 22 Be doers of the word and not just hearers who only deceive themselves. GOSPEL according to Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23 5 So the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?" 6 He said to them, "Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honours me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; 7 in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.' 8 You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition." 14 Then he called the crowd again and said to them, "Listen to me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defile." 21 For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, 22 adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person." Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT Collect Lord Jesus Christ, you have the words of eternal life: set your living bread before us that, feasting around your table, we may be strengthened to continue the work to which you call us; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Collect for Theological Education Sunday God of wisdom, Jesus instructed his apostles to make disciples of all nations and to teach them to observe all that he taught. Thank you for calling women and men to serve you in the various ministries of your Church. Bless all undergoing theological education and enlighten those engaged in the research of theological works and teaching. Touch the minds and hearts of all in your Church, to faithfully sponsor and support theological education so that your Church may be built up for the purpose of mission, prophetic ministry, pastoral care and worship. We make our prayer through Jesus Christ the great teacher, who is our Saviour and Lord. Amen. Reading Ephesians 6: 10-20 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armour of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. THE GOSPEL according to John 6: 56-69 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever." 59 He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum. 60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, "This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?" 61 But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, "Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But among you there are some who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him. 65 And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father." 66 Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. THE GOSPEL according to John 6: 51-58 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" 53 So Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; PRAYER IN THE TIME OF COVID Author of life, Saviour of the nations COVID is humbling, your grace is sufficient. THE GOSPEL according to John 6: 24-35 25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?" 26 Jesus answered them, "Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal." 28 Then they said to him, "What must we do to perform the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent." 30 So they said to him, "What sign are you going to give us then, so that we may see it and believe you? What work are you performing? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" 32 Then Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. Amen THE GOSPEL according to John 6: 1-21 5 When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, “Six months’ wages would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little.” 15 When Jesus realised that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself. 16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were terrified. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they wanted to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the land toward which they were going. Sixth Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT Lord Jesus Christ, we are often blind to the miracles you work among us: conform our minds to yours, and sustain us by your mighty power; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, in the Unity of the Blessed Trinity, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. READING 2 Corinthians 12: 2-10 Therefore, to keep me from being too elated, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to keep me from being too elated. 8 Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, 9 but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." 10 So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 6: 1-13 1 He left that place and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. 2 On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. 4 Then Jesus said to them, "Prophets are not without honor, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house." 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching. 7 He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; 9 but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. 10 He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. 11 If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them." COLLECT Lord of life and death, your compassion is steadfast and never ends: touch us with your healing grace that, restored to wholeness, we may live as your resurrection people; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. READING 2 Corinthians 8: 7-15 7 But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also. 8 I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 10 And in this matter, I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 5: 21-43 22 Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet 23 and begged him repeatedly, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live." 24 So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. 25 Now there was a woman who had been suffering from haemorrhages for twelve years. 26 She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 for she said, "If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well." 29 Immediately her haemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30 Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, "Who touched my clothes?" 31 And his disciples said to him, "You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, 'Who touched me?'" 32 He looked all around to see who had done it. 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease." 39 When he had entered, he said to them, "Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping." 40 And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha cum," which means, "Little girl, get up!" 42 And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement. 43 He strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat. Watch for the Lord with eager expectation, and be generous with all God has given you. Fourth Sunday after Pentecost/Father's Day COLLECT God our protector, your Son stilled the storm and restored calm: stand with us through all life’s storms, and give us courage to protect those who face danger, that all may know you as their stronghold and hope, through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. COLLECT FOR YOUTH DAY Father of everlasting compassion, you see your children growing up in an uncertain and confusing world: show them the path of life, enable them to triumph over failure and frustration, to hold fast their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. READING 2 Corinthians 6: 1-13 “In a favourable time, I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favourable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. 13 In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 4: 35-41 35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side." 36 And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" 39 He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. 40 He said to them, "Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?" Third Sunday after Pentecost COLLECT Creator God, through your Son you have planted the seeds of the kingdom in us: grant us grace not to live for ourselves alone, and faith to labour for the harvest of the new creation, through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God in glory everlasting. Amen READING 2 Corinthians 5: 6-17 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 4: 26-34 26 He also said, "The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, 27 and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. 28 The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come." 30 He also said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade." 33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it; 34 he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in private to his disciples. Second Sunday after Pentecost Theme: Why the will of God matters COLLECT Our Father, from whom every family on earth takes its name: help us to do your will that as sisters and brothers of Christ we may love and serve you and one another; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God in glory everlasting. Amen READING 2 Corinthians 4: 13-18 14 We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus to life, will also raise us up with Jesus and take us, together with you, into his presence. 15 All this is for your sake; and as God's grace reaches more and more people, they will offer to the glory of God more prayers of thanksgiving. 16 For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day. 17 And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. 18 For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever. THE GOSPEL according to Mark 3: 20-35 21 When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, "He has gone out of his mind." 22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, "He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons." 23 And he called them to him, and spoke to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but his end has come. 27 But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the house can be plundered. 28 "Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin PRAYER IN THE TIME OF COVID Author of life, Saviour of the nations COVID is humbling, your grace is sufficient. Trinity Sunday Theme: It is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, COLLECT God of unchangeable power, you have revealed yourself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit: keep us firm in this faith that we may praise and bless your holy name, for you are one God, living and reigning in glory now and forever. Amen READING Isaiah 6:1-8 1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord. He was sitting on his throne, high and exalted, and his robe filled the whole Temple. 2 Around him flaming creatures were standing, each of which had six wings. Each creature covered its face with two wings, and its body with two, and used the other two for flying. 3 They were calling out to each other: “Holy, holy, holy! The Lord Almighty is holy! His glory fills the world.” 5 I said, “There is no hope for me! I am doomed because every word that passes my lips is sinful, and I live among a people whose every word is sinful. And yet, with my own eyes I have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” 8 Then I heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? Who will be our messenger?” I answered, “I will go! Send me!” THE GOSPEL according to John 3:1-17 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. 17 "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Pentecost Sunday Come, Holy Advocate, come Come from the Father, for Jesus sends you Come Spirit of truth, testify on Jesus’ behalf Come and help us to glorify God, our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer COLLECT Almighty God, with wind from heaven and tongues of flame you poured out your Spirit on the disciples: set our hearts on fire with joy and power and send us out as witnesses to the wonder of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen READING: Acts 2: 1-21 When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place.  2 Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.  3 Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there.  4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak. 5 There were Jews living in Jerusalem, religious people who had come from every country in the world.  6 When they heard this noise, a large crowd gathered. They were all excited, because all of them heard the believers talking in their own languages.  13 But others made fun of the believers, saying, “These people are drunk!” 14 Then Peter stood up with the other eleven apostles and in a loud voice began to speak to the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, listen to me and let me tell you what this means. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose; it is only nine o'clock in the morning. 16 Instead, this is what the prophet Joel spoke about: 17 ‘This is what I will do in the last days, God says:     I will pour out my Spirit on everyone. GOSPEL ACCORDING TO John 15: 26-27; 16: 4b-15 26 "When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. 8 And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; 11 about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned. 12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. Seventh Sunday of Easter Pray for Palestine COLLECT Triune God, Jesus prayed that we might be one: help us to transcend our differences and find our unity in Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen READING: Acts 1: 15-17, 21-26 23 So they proposed two men: Joseph, who was called Barsabbas (also known as Justus), and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know the thoughts of everyone, so show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to serve as an apostle in the place of Judas, who left to go to the place where he belongs.” 26 Then they drew lots to choose between the two men, and the one chosen was Matthias, who was added to the group of eleven apostles. GOSPEL ACCORDING TO John 17: 6-19 13 But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15 I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. Sixth Sunday of Easter COLLECT Risen Lord, you first chose us and now call us your friends: set our hearts on fire with love for you and one another that we may live and reign in the Unity of the Blessed Trinity, one God, for ever and ever. Amen READING: Acts 10: 44-48 44 While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who were listening to his message. 45 The Jewish believers who had come from Joppa with Peter were amazed that God had poured out his gift of the Holy Spirit on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speaking in strange tongues and praising God's greatness. Peter spoke up: 47 “These people have received the Holy Spirit, just as we also did. Can anyone, then, stop them from being baptized with water?” 48 So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. GOSPEL ACCORDING TO John 15: 9-17 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. Amen. Reading: Acts 8: 26-40 26 An angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Get ready and go south to the road that goes from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27-28 So Philip got ready and went. Now an Ethiopian eunuch, who was an important official in charge of the treasury of the queen of Ethiopia, was on his way home. He had been to Jerusalem to worship God and was going back home in his carriage. As he rode along, he was reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah. 29 The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over to that carriage and stay close to it.” 30 Philip ran over and heard him reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah. He asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?” Gospel: John 15: 1-8 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. Amen. READING: Acts 4: 5-12 7 They made the apostles stand before them and asked them, “How did you do this? What power do you have or whose name did you use?” 8 Peter, full of the Holy Spirit, answered them, “Leaders of the people and elders: 9 if we are being questioned today about the good deed done to the lame man and how he was healed, 10 then you should all know, and all the people of Israel should know, that this man stands here before you completely well through the power of the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth—whom you crucified and whom God raised from death. 11 Jesus is the one of whom the scripture says, ‘The stone that you the builders despised turned out to be the most important of all.’ 12 Salvation is to be found through him alone; in all the world there is no one else whom God has given who can save us.” GOSPEL ACCORDING TO John 10: 11-18 14 I am the good shepherd. So go and travel with the God who is found in ordinary and surprising places. As we depart one from another, let our hearts be secure through every human season. Let our hearts be secure in seasons of anguish as in seasons of joy, in seasons of failure as in seasons of success, in seasons of uncertainty as in seasons of security. Let our hearts be secure in this dual reality: we are worthy recipients of love and support we can never earn, and we are worthy providers of love and support others cannot earn. Let our hearts be secure, All for hearts know and understand and will respond if invited in. May the rhythms of our coming together, the melodies of our worship, and the harmonies both of our greetings and farewells, make musical our living, soothing our spirits and uplifting our souls, this day and into the beckoning future. The blessing of God almighty, the Creator, Redeemer, Life-giver be with you always Amen.

AMEN Together we pray the prayer Jesus taught us: Our Father in heaven … Blessing: Blessed are you, O Lord our God, King of the universe. You have enriched our lives with every good and perfect gift; you have commanded us to show your splendour to your children and to praise you with lives of love, justice, and joy. Accept these Stations of the Cross which we offer in thanksgiving. As we look upon them and walk Christ's Way of the Cross, may our hearts be drawn to him who leads us with his triumphal banner of salvation. Bring us all at length to your perfect kingdom, where you live and reign with the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. C: Amen Hymn - https://hymnary.org/media/fetch/106480 1 Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side; bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; leave to your God to order and provide; in ev'ry change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: your best, your heav'nly Friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. 2 Be still, my soul: your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past. Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake; all now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know his voice who ruled them while he dwelt below. 3 Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart, and all is darkened in the vale of tears, then shall you better know his love, his heart, who comes to soothe your sorrow and your fears. Be still, my soul: your Jesus can repay from his own fullness all he takes away. 4 Be still, my soul: the hour is hast'ning on when we shall be forever with the Lord, when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

5th Wednesday in Lent Reading: Daniel 3 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered, “Your Majesty, we will not try to defend ourselves. 17 If the God whom we serve is able to save us from the blazing furnace and from your power, then he will. 18 But even if he doesn't, Your Majesty may be sure that we will not worship your god, and we will not bow down to the gold statue that you have set up.” A prayer at the time of COVID-19: AUTHOR OF LIFE, HEALER OF OF NATIONS; GRANT US WISDOM TO FIND RELIEF GIVE US FAITH TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND GRANT US YOUR SALVATION FOR JESUS CHRIST'S SAKE AMEN SENDING & BLESSING: We have to be candles, burning between hope and despair, faith and doubt, life and death, all the opposites. That is the disquieting place where people must always find us. And if our life means anything, if what we are goes beyond the monastery walls and does some good, it is that somehow, by being here, at peace, we help the world cope with what it cannot understand. * Hosts: Lindsey Schutters and Archdeacon Rodney Whiteman
