Welcome to the first episode of Season Two of Catching Up With Rohit featuring Ben Coppin, Business Development Manager at Volcanic. Ben shared his background which spanned from travelling to becoming a recruiter, making for a tough decision between Australia and the UK in my quick-fire questions round. We shared our love for great wine and I know you guys all like to hear about wine and wine bargains, this episode will be sure to give you that if nothing else! Although it may appear he's not a lover of games... I learnt a lot about Rohan from my quick-fire question round. With the best news that he's got a little one on the way. Congrats again man 👏

Rohan gave me some tips about moving out the pandemic with the help of new technologies he'd discovered. But a word of warning that technology does have it's danger zone... we often have too many options and don't use them all... we use the ones with short-term effects when the long-term effects ones are often better.

And as he put it... 'people don't know how good they've got it now' compared to the mess of 2008 with no technology resources like we have now.

How do recruitment owners think?

I convinced a recruitment owner yes to all the above... made my first deal... adjusted to my new surroundings and by adjusted I mean made the deal... But then I blanked and self-doubt crept in.

It was time to get back to billing and telling recruiters how to run their businesses.

After flunking out of university and hoping to find a job quickly I found myself on the phone to my old friend Josh Young.

Once he heard my 'incredible' phone voice I was invited down for an interview.

Mum, Dad I'm off to an interview to earn 100k! 

How do most people become a recruiter? By accident...

After flunking out of university when I was 19 (living in an Asian household... that wasn't my best move), my next move was to hit the yellow pages.

2008 think the yellow pages, 2020 think social media.

The newest generation use LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook to find their next role. But unfortunately for me, I had to hit the yellow pages... and the phone.

At this stage was I primed for recruitment?

What if I told you about my mistakes, successes and what I’ve learned from them?

I didn’t want to do a podcast but I wanted the recruitment market to be able to relate to my past and maybe even have done similar.

Since lockdown, being on furlough and having my newborn, I had time to think about the people and experiences that made an impact on my life.

My newborn was in the hospital for one week and I couldn’t see him, which meant every day for 2 hours I had time to reflect on my life and the people that have impacted my everyday well being.

I hope you can take on board my experiences to use in your own life or business.
