Evil Dead (2013) & Evil Dead Rise (2023)
On today's episode, Naomi and I discuss the quasi-remake/reboot of 1981's The Evil Dead, Evil Dead from 2013. We also share our thoughts on the sequel that premiered in April 2023. In my opinion, both movies are equally terrifying and gory and wonderfully written while also doing the original trilogy justice; this was a fun watch.

The Menu and Velvet Buzzsaw Movie Recap
*EDITOR NOTE: This episode was recorded in March of this year, and I am just now editing and releasing it. Glad to be back!*
We have a return!!! Kari is back! She returned to the podcast to join me in discussing two movies. The 2022 comedy horror The Menu and the 2019 satirical black comedy horror film Velvet Buzzsaw. Both movies take a critical take on the art world and the culture of high-end dining. Few people enjoyed Velvet Buzzsaw, but I may be among the few who did. The Menu, however, had raving reviews from critics and audiences alike. Bring out fine China, look at some fine art, and remember to Stay alternative.

Last year, there was a manga that captivated many anime/manga fans like myself. That series was called SPY X FAMILY. Do this series ask what happens when a telepath, a spy, and an assassin pretending to be a family to save their country from war? Meet the Forgers! Loid, Anya, and Yor Forger stole our hearts with their unique family dynamic. From going to the zoo to adopting a dog to stopping assassins from killing a mother and child! Dragon Ball Recap
Is it safe to say that we are all familiar with Dragon Ball Z? Well, for those unaware, there was a series before Dragon Ball Z called Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball tells the story of Goku at the age of 12 when he was living alone in the woods fending for himself when he meets Bulma, who is on the hunt for seven mystic Dragon Balls that grant whatever a person wishes. Along the way, they meet and come across familiar faces like Yamcha, Master Roshi, and even Goku's future wife, Chi Chi. Come along for the ride as I talk about what made me want to watch this show in the 1st place.
How I Got into Deathcore
Coming at you with another "How I Got Into..." episode! This time I talk about Deathcore. I know this sounds scary and bit intimidating, but I assure you this one was fun. In this episode, I do a bit of a call back to my previous episode, how I stumbled upon this genre, and talk about the bands I have gotten into as I explored this genre.
The Big Four of Grunge
I've wanted to talk about this one since I was in college! Right at the age of 19-20, I got big into everything, Grunge. I am one of those fans who, if I get into something, I'll do anything I can to learn more about it. For me, that was me getting into grunge music. Grunge was a term to describe the alternative rock sound that started in the mid-1980s and rose to prominence in the early 90s. Four bands solidified this term much to their chagrin: Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana. I talk about each of these bands, their lasting legacies, and their influence on modern rock.
Wrestling Soulmates
You are probably asking yourself what the term wrestling soulmate means. The term comes from a Sportskeeda article I came across: "... are two opposing performers/teams who will forever be tied to one another, no matter the trajectory of their careers." Two wrestlers you know will always have a good match, no matter the circumstances. Some examples I discuss in this episode are Sasha Banks vs. Bayley, Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose, and Adam Cole vs. Kyle O'Reilly. Tune in and remember to Stay Alternative!
Dazed and Confused Movie Review
This is one I am excited to cover. Dazed and Confused is one of my favorite 90s movies. This cult classic tells the story of a couple of teenagers on their last day of school in Austin, Texas, in the year 1976. Filled with a lot of familiar actors and actresses, the good times roll, and the partying never ceases. Stay Alternative!
My Favorite Pro Wrestling Theme Music
In this episode, I talk about some of my favorite pro wrestling theme songs over the past 17 years. I also discuss how some of these themes contributed to my getting into heavier music. Get some paper and pencil, and let's reminisce about alternative metal and rap. Stay Alternative!
Into The Dark Season 2 Part Two
In this episode, I wrap up the Into the Dark series with season 2. Did this season do better than the 1st? Or did they fail to land? Tune in, relax and remember, Stay Alternative!
*BONUS EPISODE* Interview w/ Altruist Comics

Into the Dark Season 1 Part One
Do you love horror anthologies as I do? What if they were based on holidays? You've come to the right place. I'm discussing the Hulu series Into the Dark, brought by the famed horror production company Blumhouse. I talk about my favorite episodes and my least favorite and talk about the episodes and the holidays they represent. Also, check out The Rating Room on Twitter, @theratingroom, and Brianna Breit on Twitter, @BreitBrianna. They are all good people!
Wanted Comic vs Movie
Back in 2008, an action movie came out, and it had assassins who could bend bullets... and it was terrific. I'm talking about the 2008 film Wanted, starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman. The plot is about an office worker named Welsey Gibson who later finds out that his father is an assassin and was murdered, so he joins up with the group his father worked for called the Fraternity. But did you know it was adapted from a comic book from 2005? In this episode, I talk about the differences between the comic and the movie.

P-Valley is a Starz drama series that made its premiere in 2020, and has since then been a huge hit amongst viewers and critics alike. We go over what has happened in Season 1, talk about some changes made in Season 2 as well as our predictions for the rest of the season. We also talk about the themes of the show, the characters and why we love this show so much.
P.S. We do make the mistake a couple of times of misgendering the character Uncle Clifford, whose pronouns are she/her. But we are aware that the actor playing Uncle Clifford uses he/him. We do apologize as this was not our intention. Please enjoy that episode.
Recommending Bands Vol 3

Wristcutter's A Love Story
Hello everyone, I am back to talk about/recap the 2006 indie romance/comedy film Wristcutters: A Love Story. I stumbled upon this film 10 years ago, while channel flipping through the movie channels. I enjoyed it then, and I still really enjoy it. Trigger warning though, the film does talk about themes of suicide and I talk about those themes in this episode. Listener discretion advised and Stay Alternative!
Let's Talk Fear Street
This is one I have been excited to talk about for a while. Fear Street was a series of books created by R.L Stine that was geared more to teenagers. We are going to talk about the origin of this club, some of the members and has it lost its relevancy in recent years.
Los Punks: We Are All We Have Review
On this episode, I talk about the fantastic 2016 music documentary Los Punks; We Are All We Have. The film looks into the backyard punk scene in South Central and East Los Angeles. You hear from the promoters, singers, and others involved in this very close knit and open community of misfits. You see their ups and downs, as well as their dreams. Highly recommend this one!
The Night House Review
Trigger Warning: Discussing Themes of Suicide. Spoiler warning as well.
On this episode, I talk about 2021 psychological horror film The Night House. This was a random watch I saw with friends. I went into the film with different expectations and was highly entertained with the end result. This is a very heavy movie so be advised, but its a really good movie.
Whip It Book vs Movie Review
On this episode, I talk about my thoughts on the 2007 novel Whip It (aka Derby Girl) and the 2009 film adaptation of the same name. Where there major changes? Which one was better? All of those somewhat decent questions will be answered here!

In this episode, I am joined once again by my rotating co-host Naomi. We are discussing Tyler Perry's 2018 film Acrimony, it details the marriage of Melinda and Robert. From their innocent beginnings to their bitter divorce and how a once promising couple could descend into obsession and rage. Who is at fault and who is justified? We also talk about the quality of Tyler Perry's films over the years. Apologies for the abrupt end at the end of this episode, editing issues and all.
