S02 - Ep. 26: 3 things that drive feeling out of control with food + what you're probably doing every day that make them worse
In this episode, I review what I went over in the workshop I hosted last night in case you missed it.  That is: the three things that most often drive feeling out of control around food or struggling to "stay on track" the things you're probably doing every day that are making them worse and I share some tips on how to start shifting them If you want access to the worksheet I spoke of in this episode, shoot me email at roni@ronidavis.com and ask for the workshop worksheet. I'll send you a copy and even review it for you when you're done if you want to send it back to me.   It's important to keep in mind that these are complex issues that can run deep. They take time and a whole lot of understanding to shift. If you want help making the process easier, The Cognitive Eating Academy has tools, practices, and supports in place to guide you, step by step on exactly how to change all of them.

S02 - Ep. 25: On trusting, making friends with and listening to our bodies
Heart screams run. Body says, nope. Which do I listen to? Back in 2007 when I started my “fitness journey” (god I hate that phrase now) within a couple months of walking, I started running. And predictably, got obsessive about it. So obsessive in fact that within about 3 months I went from being completely inactive for years to running 10ks up to 5 or more days a week. Do you know what happens when you go from inactive to obsessively exercising in a short period of time? I do! Tune in as I share the surprising blessings that came from years of injuries and pain. And how changing the way I looked at those things, changed everything, including helped to change how I ate.

In this episode, I share a comment a client made about how deep her body hate went and how long she'd been carrying it. I also talk about two of the simplest (simple, but not easy) practices that clients in my Cognitive Eating Academy work really hard on learning to integrate, why they're so incredibly important and how we get so disconnected from them in the first place. If you hate your body and keep desperately trying to fix it, this one is for you. If you need help learning to live these practices and find peace with your body and food, join us in the Cognitive Eating Academy. Spring enrollment just opened.

S02 - Ep. 21: Fear mongering & food demonizing - why it's actually healthier to let yourself eat the "bad" things than try to restrict them
Have you ever noticed that every single conversation about healthy eating in our world revolves around demonizing certain foods and scare tactics? This is what we’ve come to believe promotes healthy eating - teach people to fear certain foods and convince them they need to spend their entire lives trying to ban them forever.  How exactly is all this information and fear-mongering helping us and how is my world different now that I fear no food? That’s what I’m talking about in this episode, complete with another real-life client example in the beginning and a beautiful visual of the world I'm working to create at the end. S02 - Ep. 16: Before and after weight loss photos - why I won't share or celebrate them anymore
My life revolved around before and after weight loss photos for many years; my own and others. My entire livelihood was completely dependent upon them, as a matter of fact. I went from that to refusing to share or celebrate them ever again.  Why do I so fully reject what is supposedly the pinnacle of healthy living inspiration in our culture? There are a number of reasons why and in this episode, I share some of them.

S02 - Ep. 08: Featuring health coach and Cognitive Eating Academy client - Raquel Sedano
In this episode, I'm chatting with women's health coach and entrepreneur Raquel Sedano about her struggles with weight & food and her experience in the Cognitive Eating Academy. Tune in to hear how things have changed for her! More about Raquel, from Raquel: I am Raquel and I spent the last decade studying health, sport science, functional nutrition and body training in order to help myself and other women to have a healthier and joyful life. I have always loved sports and movement but when I started University I stopped moving just for pleasure since my relationship with body and food changed. I started to control what I ate and my workouts (running, going to the gym, etc...) became just a way to burn calories. And I just wondered: how come we have to suffer so much for something that is so natural and necessary for humans? Why do people lose so easily the motivation to workout? I have always been a curious person, so I decided to thoroughly study the physiology of movement and how our brain works. If we want to stick to something our brain needs to find pleasure and an instant reward when doing an activity. This is when I realized that I wanted to move in ways that my body liked, having fun and pleasure as in my childhood. A couple of years ago, when I moved to the USA I signed up for a class of IntenSati, a revolutionary practice that combines movement with positive affirmations. During and after the class, I felt incredibly empowered. Moving my body with expansive movements, feeling the rhythm of the music, and chanting positive affirmations was just amazing. I was training my body and rewarding my brain. I immediately felt the need to share this practice with my clients and friends, so I became an IntenSati Certified Coach. From then on I've been enjoying and teaching other women to move in a fun, empowered and pleasant way so that they can finally love exercise and movement. --- Find Raquel and more about her work on the web at: www.raquelsedano.com or on Instagram at: @escuela_de_salud_femenina

How much of your day do you spend thinking about all the things you think you should be doing about your weight or health but just can't seem to "make yourself" do? How much of your day do you spend judging and berating yourself for not being "motivated enough" to do them? Ep. 28 - The Myth Of Creating Habits in 21 Days
There's a myth floating around about habits taking 21 days to form. We hear this mistaken notion repeated everywhere, especially in the weight loss and fitness world but it's simply not true. Ep. 27 - The Journey Back To You (an exploration of the drive behind our cultural obsession with weight loss)
In a past episode I spoke about the obsession our culture has with celebrating weight loss and in it, I posed the question, why does that validation matter so much? In this episode, I'm diving into that more…  the desperation with which we often chase weight loss - the desperation that’s more times than not fueled by the need for validation… as well, where does it come from, why is it so damaging, and what I’ve been trying to do instead, as a recovering validation chaser myself. Are you obsessed with the number on your scale? This episode is for you. (The powerful poem featured at the end is by Nancy Regan of The Soul Booth Podcast.)

Ep. 26 - Suffering and Fear Is Not The Way, Love Is
A healthy lifestyle should make your life better. It should add so much to your life that you cannot imagine living any other way. It should make you feel happy, energetic, powerful and amazing—not beaten, exhausted, obsessive over food and workouts, and like you want to quit every second of the day. That's what I'm talking about in this episode - choosing from love and joy rather than suffering and fear.

I'm also diving into goal-setting in general and two of the biggest requirements for goal setting that most people miss. Ep. 24 - Why I'm Not Afraid To Fail & You Shouldn't Be Either
I’ve been training and coaching people for about a decade and in that time, one thing has become abundantly clear. If you ask the average person why they haven’t achieved their goals or dreams, whatever excuse they give you will almost certainly boil down to fear of failure. Why is failure such a scary word? Personally, I have zero shame around failing. In fact, I'm happy to do it, repeatedly, and I have - because it's better than quitting. That's what I'm talking about in this episode, fear of failure. How do you even define failure? Tune in now for more and find out why I'd rather fail than quit.

Ep. 23 - What Being Anti-Diet Means & Doesn't Mean (For Me)
Last week Adele shared a picture of herself that created an enormous amount of debate. The internet went nuts and I felt compelled to weigh in (no pun intended) - not on her body (because it's not my place to make commentary on anyone else's body). Rather, I wanted to weigh in with some things to consider. Should we be celebrating weight loss? What does being anti-diet mean to me? Does it mean I don't think anyone should want to lose weight or they should be ashamed if they do? Tune to this week's episode to find out what I mean (and don't mean) when I say I'm anti-diet, what I mean by weight neutral and why it's a far healthier approach.

Ep. 19 - The Power Of Surrendering All Resistance
How much time do you spend fighting what is? I spent most of my life doing that. I fought against my weight, food, my body, myself, my life, basically, everything and I held on to those battles like my life depended on it. ⁣Why? Because I was miserable and thought the only way to be happy was to keep fighting the things that were keeping me from it.⁣ ⁣ To this day, I still often use the phrase “I fought to get here” - but the reality of what actually got me here was surrender and in fact, I fully believe it was the constant fight - the resistance itself - that actually created most of my biggest struggles. In this episode I'm talking about why surrendering to resistance is so powerfully transformative, why it's not the same thing as giving up and I'll take you through a short exercise/meditation to help you find the freedom in surrendering to whatever may be causing you excess suffering today.

Ep. 18 - Every Choice Is A Good One
One of the biggest causes of self-induced suffering is measuring yourself against who you think you’re supposed to be or the way you think things should be - and judging and criticizing yourself when you inevitably come up short. And yet,  it’s what most of us not only spend most of our lives doing - but are also doing now - during one of the most stressful, chaotic times in our lifetime. Or overall just feeling rather useless? Like you should be better or be doing more than you’ve been doing? Do you often do that, even before this pandemic turned your life upside down? That’s what I’m talking about in this episode - how with awareness, I decided that everything I did or didn’t do was okay and how that decision paved the way for massive change.

Ep. 16 - Constantly Snacking / Staying On Track Amid Covid-19
I've been talking about emotional eating & frequent snacking a lot lately because every time I turn around someone is joking about how much they're eating and how much weight they're going to gain so I know it's something that's weighing on a lot of minds. In this episode you'll find out exactly why it happens, what problems it's trying to solve, why it's so common and why worrying about weight gain is the worst thing you can do. I also share 3 different ways you can try managing food and which one is the best, in my opinion.

Ep. 15 - Emotions On Overload?
Emotions are on overload for everyone and managing them is something many of us struggle with - but it's a skill we can learn.  In this episode, I talk a little about emotional intelligence and some things you can start doing right now to help feel less controlled by the emotional overwhelm we're all experiencing - which is particularly helpful if you're someone who typically soothes with food.  While there's nothing wrong with using food if you don't have other coping strategies built yet, building emotional intelligence can help you learn to stop needing to rely on it for everything. Ep. 14 - I Was Technically A Diet Success, Why Am I So Anti-Diet? This Is Why
I was a diet "success". I was someone who hated herself skinny - who lost a bunch of weight and transformed her entire body ONLY because she wanted it to be a certain weight and look a certain way. And I spent 8 years helping other women lose weight, talking about lifestyle changes and sharing their weight loss before and afters. And now I spend my life talking about why those things don't work. All you'll ever hear me say about dieting now is that diets don't work, and that body hate and obsessing over being skinny are the worst ways to try to change your health and your body. How can she be so hypocritical? You may be wondering. It's a fair question if you are and that's what I'm diving into in this episode. --- Want more science? Do you struggle to figure out why everything else in your life is so great but you just can't get past the fight with food or your weight? You're not alone. In this episode, I explain why you're not alone, why it's so common and the best thing you can do to start changing it.

Ep. 11 - What Do You Mean I Can Eat Whatever I Want?
The answer to your health, happiness and food and weight struggles is eating whatever you want - that is, whatever your body wants. And you have no idea what kind of expressions I get from people when I say that. In this episode I'm talking about what I mean when I say that, why I say that and giving you some actionable things you can start practicing right now to learn how to start trusting yourself with food again. Ep. 8 - The Impact of Dieting on Mental Health
Dieting is disordered eating. It's a fine (often overlapping) line away from an eating disorder and research shows it's often a huge contributing factor to developing full-blown eating disorders - which, I might add have the highest mortality rates of all mental illnesses. Our diet-obsessed culture is screwing up our relationships with food and ourselves on such a massive scale that it’s made disordered eating, not only socially acceptable but expected and normal. Disordered eating is so normal that many people either minimize or don’t even realize the impact it has on their mental and physical health. We’re taught that health and happiness with ourselves and our bodies requires being super controlled with what goes in our mouth, even when it comes at a huge emotional and physical cost. Harmful consequences can include a greater risk of obesity and eating disorders, bone loss, gastrointestinal disturbances, electrolyte and fluid imbalances, low heart rate and blood pressure, increased anxiety and depression, and social isolation. In this episode, I talk about the mental health impact of dieting, including my own experience with dieting and the binge eating, bulimia, depression, and anxiety it created.

Ep. 4 - Why Do We Always Quit? Why is Change So Hard?
One of the biggest things people struggle with whenever they start trying to change something is nagging thoughts constantly reminding them that they're probably just going to end up quitting this like they quit everything else... and then ultimately those thoughts becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy when they end up quitting. This is especially true of people who struggle with roller-coaster dieting but it really pretty universal no matter what we're starting or trying to change. But does it really mean we're failures, doomed to keep repeating the cycle and never actually stick to anything? And what can be done to break the cycle? This is what I'm talking about in episode 4 of It's All In Your Head. Ep. 3 - What are you actually hungry for?
In this third edition of my special three-part New Year’s series designed to kick off the new podcast and more importantly help you kick off 2020 so 2021 doesn’t land with you making the same weight loss resolutions you’re making this year, I'm talking about one of the biggest things that causes us to eat when we're not physically hungry. Love.  I got an email from a client who’s been practicing her new skills of understanding WHY she’s eating when she’s eating and said this, I feel sad and depressed. I’m aware that I’m being unconscious and punishing myself with food. I see that it’s the feeling of unconditional love that I actually want. That’s how this process works when you work it. It creates a DEEP, soul-level understanding of our deepest hungers so we can start nourishing those rather than numbing them with food. Click play to listen to more about what love has to do with why we eat and why dieting just makes things worse.

Ep. 2 - Goal Setting in 2020 - A new take on your goals & helpful little goal setting trick
Is being obsessed with reaching goals really helping us? Is that really what we should be focusing on? Traditional wisdom (along with science) says that people who set firm goals are more likely to achieve them than those who don't. Which I suppose is pretty obvious, if you don't even have a goal, there's nothing to even achieve, right? But, is living and dying by goal setting our whole lives really making us live happier, more fulfilled and more successful lives overall?  I think, not really.  Is there a better way? I think, yes. Listen to find out what it is and to learn one powerful little goal-setting trick to start building confidence right away and help you ditch that "on-track-off-track" cycle of serial dieting. Since it's the New Year and everywhere you look there's a different diet being shoved in your face making all kinds of miraculous promises I want to offer a few things... According to the National Institute of Health, 98% of people who lose weight on a diet regain all the weight they lose and a large majority gain even more than they lost. And up to 90% of people who start a new fitness program, quit within 3 months. Close to 90% of people who set New Year's resolutions give up before ever achieving them. If you're one of them and you actually want a different result this time, you have to do something different. And no, trying a new diet isn't doing something different - it's just doing a different version of the same basic thing that's already failed you a million times. Don't miss the PREMIER EPISODE of It's All In Your Head. In this episode, the first of a three-part New Year's series, I outline the 8 things you must know before setting more weight loss resolutions.
