Staying Ahead; Redefining Hospitality Leadership

Staying Ahead; Redefining Hospitality Leadership

When an organization wants to achieve its goals, it needs a vision. Effective leadership starts with recognizing and outlining those goals and inspiring others to follow. Leaders paint a picture of how that vision will affect the company as a whole, as well as each individual. A leader's ability to articulate that vision into a mission statement corresponds to actively implementing goals and the company's bottom-line success.

How To Manage Your Time And Productivity As A Leader

How To Manage Your Time And Productivity As A Leader

Often, managing your time as a workplace leader means getting organized. A typical day as a workplace leader may start with 30-minute or one-hour blocks of meetings and conference calls. At other times, you will have to learn to say ‘no’ if employees want four hours to dive into the plans for an office party or reorganize teams for a creative project. At the end of the day, any of these strategies make it possible for you to manage your most precious commodity: time.   Leaders must make tough decisions when it comes to protecting, investing, saving, spending, and planning their time. However, this cannot be easy at times, and the key to success as a workplace leader is to communicate early with your co-workers. Once you learn to communicate and maintain time management measures, you will achieve freedom from deadline pressure and workplace stress in general.   Let's dive in.

Letting People Go; Your Most IMPORTANT Leadership Decision.

Letting People Go; Your Most IMPORTANT Leadership Decision.

There is a lot of literature about the importance of hiring the right people for your organization, but I have noticed there is less conversation about letting people go. It is unfortunate because the most important decision we make as leaders is not when to hire someone but rather when to fire someone.

A leader's role is to protect the organization's viability and culture, which means sometimes letting people go who don't fit in.

Let's dive in and discuss one of the most complex decisions that a leader might face.

Failure Is not an option

Failure Is not an option

What does it mean when certain people say failure is not an option? What does it mean to fail? The people who truly understand this statement don’t believe they won’t fail or can’t happen. In fact, not only do they fully realize that failure is very much an option, they understand it’s inevitable.

That idea conveys that you should not stop at the first encounter of hardship. Failure is not an option because it’s not a stopping point. Instead, failure is a point which you can continue from and, more importantly, a place that can speed up the learning process on your path to success.  Let's dive in and discuss it further.

Leaders Are Readers

Leaders Are Readers

It was Harry S. Truman who said, “Not All Readers Are Leaders, But All Leaders Are Readers.” Top business leaders often quote President Truman’s philosophy as one of their keys to success.

Reading will open new opportunities for professional success. It’s the best and most efficient way to acquire and assimilate information. Reading can improve intelligence, increase vocabulary, increase communication skills, and improve a leader’s ability to work with and understand others.

Speak With Impact; Key Tips For Success

Whether you are addressing a small group or behind a podium in front of hundreds, public speaking can be unnerving and downright frightening to some while seemingly innocuous.  For most people, public speaking does not come naturally. Good speakers are made, not born. Even those who seem to be naturally gifted speakers follow these simple rules of thumb: Prepare, Practice, and Personalize.

People listen when you know what to say and how to say it. Find your powerful voice, and step into leadership. Speak with Impact.

The Power of Strategic Integration

The Power of Strategic Integration

Countless dollars and hours are invested annually in building and revising strategic plans. Some get placed on a bookshelf only to gather dust until it’s time to plan again. Others get started, but far too many projects fail to be fully implemented.

Effective leaders understand that it requires more than building a plan. Structure and systems also play a considerable role and often dictate success.

Strategic Integration challenges leaders to think beyond strategic planning and focus on essential elements for successfully implementing strategy.

Today's guest is Adriana Girdler, President and Chief Efficiency Officer of  CornerStone Dynamics. She is one of Canada’s foremost business productivity specialists. Adriana is a Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt with over 20 years of experience in productivity and process improvement launched her company CornerStone Dynamics in 2008.  Adriana has worked in various industries, leading companies to improve what they do, how they do it, and their bottom line.  Adriana holds PMP (Project Management Professional) and CET (Certified Engineering. Technologist) designations.

Adriana is an entrepreneur, professional speaker, workshop leader, and author of “Efficiency Matters,” the SparkShift book series, and The Visual Vision Statement Workbook. Adriana has her own YouTube channel and has appeared on CBS, CBC, CTV, CHCH, Global, 680News Radio, Newstalk 1010, Sirius XM, and The Globe and Mail. Adriana is passionate about improvement and efficiency in both people and organizations.
