RRC 57 | Sarah Kelsey | Host of The OneUp Project Podcast & Marketing Coordinator @ MacroActive™

My guest for this episode is Sarah Kelsey, Host of The OneUp Project Podcast & Marketing Coordinator at MacroActive™, a fantastic human who has in her short time made some pretty brave decisions, shared with some amazing guests on her poddy and is passionate about the community she has made, aimed to get young people excited about sorting out traditionally boring stuff!

What I love about Sarah is that she is all things this poddy is about, imperfect, whole human, and real in the very best ways, vulnerable and open so others can learn and grow from and with her

In this episode we covered:

  • What The One Up Project podcast is all about
  • How to make boring life admin more exciting
  • That being accepting into a well regarded dream job might not be the dream for you, why that is ok, and what you need to think about to work out if you should stay or go
  • There are no silver bullets, but how opening your perspectives with the views of others can help you gain your own success
  • And SO much more

As usual this podcast is edited for time, so please head over to my YouTube channel to check out the full interview, with more nuggets there

I hope you find our sharing as enjoyable as it was to capture and warmly welcome Sarah to the Rosey on Recruitment & Career podcast!

RRC 54 | Rosey Review | How to stand out as a candidate

RRC 54 | Rosey Review | How to stand out as a candidate

“How to stand out as a candidate” has advice that can be used by anyone at any time. There are takeaways that will help not only to stand out in an interview, but to deepen professional relationships, connect with who you are now, and to plan for where you want to go.

As I work with candidates across different levels of expertise there may be some tips here you are aware of, but I challenge you to consider if you’re practicing all that you know in these areas, that can help you on your trajectory.

Even if you have been at some pretty high highs, don’t get complacent.  A career climb can be easy in that, the climb.  But once you have achieved some goals, and have expectations of what that can mean for next steps, know that the competition can get tougher.  Working with some pretty senior people recently, it has been great to add value in those skills that they don’t understand how to articulate, and giving them the confidence to do so in ways that are aligned to next steps, sharing through the framework I provide, and the practice and we perform.

So whether you’re looking for your first role, a grad, or moving from a Head of into a C-Suite role, there’s something here for you in the 4 tips I share:

  • Leverage your network and be open with recruiters
  • Know where you want to go so others can help you
  • Show off your expertise and accomplishments in your CV
  • Be coachable and take feedback from all phone and interview opportunities

For any comments, questions or inquiries, drop me an email at rosey@customisetalent.com or send me a voice memo https://anchor.fm/roseyonrecruitment/message

I hope you enjoy my imperfect, whole human, realness sharing

RRC 48 | Rosey Review | Some days are down days in COVID Lockdown. What can you do?

RRC 48 | Rosey Review | Some days are down days in COVID Lockdown. What can you do?

As I record this I fully anticipate an extension of L4 lockdown for New Zealand, and the developments in Australia are lessons that we can certainly learn from
But how are you doing really? I’m sure like most this time is a roller coaster, it depends on the work you do, the support you have, those you’re checking in with, your professional and family responsibilities, and how you deal with the unpredictable nature of these times, being a sometimes frightening world we live in
I’m all about perspective, I know there are circumstances globally that are incomprehensible to many, and I personally feel so lucky to not only live in New Zealand, but to work with an amazing team at Customise, and my greater network, that are compassionate, genuinely interested, and supportive
I also know there are times for all of us when our bubble is claustrophobic and our emotions, from the consistency of being on always, can be overwhelming.
So in this episode I share a few tips that I hope can help you through those times where it all might be feeling a little too much.

3 Tips for you
3 Tips for your family/bubble
3 Tips to help your your colleagues / professional network
Why you should take the “Burnout Self-Test - Checking Yourself for Burnout”, and what my result was

RRC 47 | Robett Hollis | Multi-Exit entrepreneur and Snowboard World Champs Silver Medalist

My guest for this episode is Robett Hollis, a gent that is all in for what he believes.  Self described as “an independent thinker on a journey to promote, protect and positively impact kiwi culture”, he is known for speaking his truth and not shying away from real conversations

And that’s why I invited him on my show.  If you’ve heard his podcast #robettLIVE, or seen an interview, you’ll know he oozes authenticity.  Robett has seen a fair bit in his time, but uses his drivers of being a Proud #GirlDad,  a kiwi with Ngati Porou ties, and his focus on creativity, commerce, and community to right his compass, and share that direction with others.

In this episode we cover

  • His hate for misplacing position over a person, it’s not who they are or what they represent
  • Why conversation transparency on real issues is important and why we need to get braver
  • That if you can win your own way, and you can win, hold onto that
  • The harsh truth - until you’ve got leverage you can’t do shit
  • Why Rob Campbell is an icon
  • How to resolve toxic people in your organisation
  • And so much more

RRC 44 | Rosey Review w/ Fiona Ehn | Her Career Conversation Over Coffee Leader Led Call

Welcome to this Rosey Review episode, this is a quick intro as everything you’ll need to know about Fiona Ehn, GM of Cards and Payments from Kiwibank is in the introduction I make for this Her Career Leader Led Conversations Over Coffee call

“Conversations Over Coffee” began during the 2020 lockdown when we at Her Career recognised the importance of connecting the women in our FB Hub "Millennial INTRApreneurs thriving in their 9 - 5", to provide a safe space to share, and to introduce Leader Led calls, to provide a space for a senior INTRApreneurial woman to share her career journey, insights, experience and inspiration. This call makes leaders accessible, showing more of their whole human self and their career lessons.

Please forgive the audio here, although not of usual standards, the content quality is worth it.

RRC 43 | Dr Angela Lim | CEO & Co-Founder @ Clearhead

RRC 43 | Dr Angela Lim | CEO & Co-Founder @ Clearhead

My guest for this episode is Dr Angela Lim, serial health tech entrepreneur focused on innovative solutions, who has previously worked as a Paediatric doctor at Auckland Hospital and now runs Clearhead, NZ’s most innovative workplace wellbeing provider for EAP services and more.

Angela has a wide range of experiences and networks in both the NZ and international health care systems. This includes sitting on several local and national boards, especially in the area of healthcare information technology, conducting multiple health-related research projects spanning from a biomedical to population health level, and working for the Ministry of Health. This has allowed Angela to help shape and develop a more integrated and consumer-centric health care system, to take a whole-of-system approach when answering big and strategic questions.

Her key areas of interest are in population health, inequality, healthcare governance, leadership, cross-sectoral integration, innovation and entrepreneurship.  She has been featured in various articles, reports and presentations including the NZ Herald, Stuff, TV and as a TEDx speaker.

I reached out to Angela to be a guest here because mental health is so important in the workplace or when looking for a role, and also because I was personally so inspired by her awesomeness.

In this episode we cover:

  • How becoming a boss has shifted Angela’s meaning of recruitment and career
  • Why you are only successful as the sum of your people and how businesses can support each individual
  • The importance of technology in supporting mental health
  • Acknowledging there is still stigma and real life consequences around mental health challenges
  • The lessons you should take from any failure and remembering why you are grinding
  • That women in leadership bring a level of empathy allowing people to bring their whole human self to work
  • Remember that at all levels it’s ok to make mistakes, share them, learn, and support each other, showing this vulnerability and giving this permission makes you all stronger
  • Why it's important to let go of control, especially as a woman
  • The importance of filling your cup regularly so you have reserves to support life and work challenges

RRC 41 | Wilfred Te Wao | Digital Doer @ Manaaki

RRC 41 | Wilfred Te Wao | Digital Doer @ Manaaki

This episode, to amplify the Digital Doers Academy from Manaaki, may have hit a few snags, but Wilfred Te Wao carried the mahi for his new Digital Doer whanau and bravely shared his personal journey, of challenges overcome, and hope ahead, with heart and inspiration.

What is a Digital Doer?  Someone who has specifically trained to support business in Aotearoa to do business online and do it well.  They help to overcome the key problem many small and medium businesses have of minimal resources or skills to make this happen.  This is where Manaaki stepped in.

I’m excited to report that since this recording Wil is involved in 3 internships, the first is with Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, next is Lake District Adventures Waikato, and last but not least AkoMai Way.  The links for those businesses can be found below.

Wil is also currently sourcing local clothing manufacturers for the Urban Māori Clothing Line he has started with his brother, and is working on a VR (Virtual Reality) Art gallery space so visitors can visit online art galleries in a digital, interactive environment and purchase artwork.

There is an additional close tie with this organisation.  Rachel Adams, who leads this program, and is now the General Manager of Manaaki, featured in episode 13 when she was Head of Operations for Soda Inc.  It’s whanau all round!

In this episode we dig into

  • Where Wil has come from and where he hopes to go
  • Why being in the Digital Doer Academy was such a supportive environment for learning
  • What small and medium businesses can do to get the best out of a Digital Doer
  • The importance of getting out of your comfort zone

RRC 40 | Rosey Review w/ Sally Hennah | Intro conversation with a guest

RRC 40 | Rosey Review w/ Sally Hennah | Intro conversation with a guest

Welcome to this Rosey Review episode.  This time round I thought I would share a wonderful introduction call I had with an upcoming guest for episode 45, Sally Hennah, Co-Founder and Director of Business Sorter.  Sally came to me by way of recommendation from Mark Donavan, my guest from RRC 29.

It’s important to me to share some pre podcast recording time with a guest, especially one I haven’t personally met before.  From a practical perspective, this ensures the technology works and they are comfortable with the questions I have prepared.  From a human perspective I want to make sure they are comfortable with me, so the sharing can be organic when we’re recording for the episode.

I’m lucky that quite often, like on this very first call with Sally, magic and connection happens immediately.  We found we had so much in common while covering some deep and meaningfuls around recruitment and career, that had to include as a preview of what’s to come 5 episodes from now.

In this episode we touch on:

  • My recent health scare
  • COVID & global responses
  • My why
  • The importance of confidence and transferable skills
  • The oft frustration of being a recruiter
  • What Business Sorter is
  • Mutual happies for this connection

For any comments, questions or inquiries about how I can help you as a business or candidate, drop me an email at rosey@customisetalent.com or send me a voice memo https://anchor.fm/roseyonrecruitment/message

I hope you enjoy my imperfect, whole human, realness sharing

RRC 39 | David Perry | Managing Partner @ Perry-Martel International + Author

RRC 39 | David Perry | Managing Partner @ Perry-Martel International + Author

My guest this episode is David Perry, who reached out to me from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, after stumbling across this podcast, listening to my take on Recruitment and Career while driving into work.

David is international recruitment royalty, so I was humbled by his reach out, and ecstatic to learn so much from his entertaining and insightful sharing.  The author of seven books and recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for Community Service, in 1988 he founded, and is Managing Partner of Perry-Martel International, billing more than 60,000 hours during career spanning over 35 years of executive search projects, which have totalled more than $390M in salary,

He teaches companies how to hire the right executives and keep them, and candidates how to make business decisions that will shape their careers.  He is an author, sought after speaker, and has also featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Fortune Magazine to name just a few.  Never one to sit still, David has also co-founded MyNewJobHunt.com, the first online Job Transition Platform written to help job hunters connect with employers in a whole new way.

I’m grateful both for the kind words he had to share from what he’s heard of my podcast, David’s calibre of expertise, generously wanting to be a part of my sharing, and for taking time in our initial introduction call to work out the technical bugs.  He’s already labelled me a hoot, and as I said to him, Canadian’s and Kiwi’s are basically cousins, so we just get each other.

In this episode we dig into

  • What makes a great recruiter and how they can help candidates and businesses
  • What candidates and businesses can do to help themselves
  • How David became an author, and how that lead to his Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for Community Service
  • That amazing things can happen out of the blue
  • How one or two opportunities happening at the right time can change EVERYTHING

...and much more!

I’ve had to edit this podcast for time, so head over to my YouTube channel to check out the full interview, I promise there are lots of extra fun and useful nuggets there.

RRC 37 | Rob Campbell CNZM CFInstD | Chancellor @ AUT, Chair @ SkyCity, Professional Director

RRC 37 | Rob Campbell CNZM CFInstD | Chancellor @ AUT, Chair @ SkyCity, Professional Director

In this episode I’m absolutely honoured to be joined by Rob Campbell, Professional Director, Chancellor of Auckland University of Technology, Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, and Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors

Rob is a New Zealand businessman icon, but deeper than that, he is a genuine Kiwi guy who consistently stands up for what he believes in, championing causes not just in business, but for New Zealand communities.  He takes steps, opens conversations, and considers a wide scope, making a positive impact through networks and associations to increase awareness and promote action.

His success is indisputable, his road to the top a squiggly line of opportunities taken, even if not always popular, and bridging gaps with people in a way that has displayed emotional intelligence, empathy, and understanding.  Rob has from his early career had a unique ability to understand complexity and deliver with relevance to specific audiences, some saying in his earlier union days that he “appeared to have a social conscience and a working class heart as well”

In this episode we dig into

  • Robs career path, and his recommendation on why you should have a better plan
  • Boards, governance, diversity, outstaying usefulness, being authentic
  • Why keeping the dignity of those your decisions impact is so important in business and for leaders
  • Raw sharing around Rob’s cancer, alcohol, and depression battles
  • Uplifting and humorous back story to his strong bond with Dave Letele
  • How doing many things helps Rob do his best across these many things
  • ...and much more!

I’m so grateful he is here to spend time sharing with me, so it is with pleasure that I warmly welcome Rob to the Rosey on Recruitment & Career podcast!

RRC 36 | Rosey Review w/ Hilary Walton | Her Career Conversation Over Coffee Leader Led Call

Welcome to this Rosey Review episode.  In these segments I usually take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received and share my views.  But in this episode I’m sharing from our Her Career Leader Led Conversations Over Coffee call where we had the privilege to hear from Hilary Walton, Chief Information Security Officer for Kordia.

So what is “Conversations Over Coffee”? During 2020 lockdown Her Career recognised the importance of connecting the women in our FB Hub "Millennial INTRApreneurs thriving in their 9 - 5", and a safe space to share.  We also introduced a Leader Led call, to provide a space for a senior INTRApreneurial woman to share her career journey, insights, experience and inspiration. This call makes leaders accessible, showing more of their whole human self.  To date we have had over 20 FB Hub community calls, this is our 06th Leader Led call.

The beginning of this call is a little behind the scenes before everyone else joined us, touching on some of our vulnerability realness, I felt it was important to preserve for the podcast.

I hope you enjoy this imperfect, whole human, realness sharing

RRC 35 | Maxine Elliot | Chief Executive Officer @ Paymark

RRC 35 | Maxine Elliot | Chief Executive Officer @ Paymark

In this episode I’m joined by Maxine Elliot, CEO of Paymark.  At Paymark, Maxine is focused on transforming the way that Kiwi’s pay for goods and services, now and into the future.  They’re a big company with a small company mentality, believing that nothing is impossible.

As CEO, Maxine loves that Paymark is an organisation Kiwis’ not only rely on, but trust.  She works hard with her team to ensure the culture at Paymark is one where people can bring their whole selves.

Throughout her career, growth and change are words that have helped to fuel her drive.  Maxine was heavily involved in rolling out the Ultra-Fast Fibre network in various parts of the New Zealand and has lead multi-national companies, both here in New Zealand and overseas.

In this episode we dig into:

  • Career lessons and tips for those new in their career
  • Maxine’s biggest tip for INTRApreneurial women to accelerate your opportunities
  • The importance of culture, how being you is a super power, and knowing when to walk away from an environment where you’re not thriving
  • How Maxine has developed her visibility from naturally being a quiet and reserved
  • What to do when the big swinging dick syndrome floors you
  • The importance of negotiation, as a candidate, and with business partners
  • The importance of being honest and building trust
  • ...and much more!

A quick note, we recorded before the announcement of the government moving to crack down on interchange fees, with the proposed Retail Payments Systems Bill, a proposed new regulatory regime to be overseen by the Commerce Commission, and budget announcement.

As an inspiration of success to many in business, it’s my pleasure to welcome Maxine to the Rosey on Recruitment & Career podcast!

RRC 33 | Doris Lien & Fergielyn Catayoc | Graduate & New to Work Panel

RRC 33 | Doris Lien & Fergielyn Catayoc | Graduate & New to Work Panel

The plan for this episode was to create a Graduate and new to work panel, from those who have recently joined the workforce so they can share a piece of their story, what they’re doing, future career aspirations, and provide insights for those organisations searching to hire fresh new talent.

We got so close...but then illness and technology got in the way!  The bad news, two guests couldn’t be on this episode, and there may be some conversation flow issues with comments made referring to audio that couldn’t be included, BUT, there were gems I wanted to keep in the episode so I’m sure you’ll get the drift!  The GREAT news, Doris from Auckland Transport, and Fergielyn from Henry Hughes Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys who do join me, are an absolute joy, intelligent, open, honest, and with aspirations that are inspirational.

Doris went to the University of Canterbury and although completed in 2019, graduated in 2020 due to COVID a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in International Business & Marketing and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Japanese & Chinese.  She also completed a Tikanga course in 2020 and has started the Te Ara Reo Maori course, both with Te Wananga o Aotearoa.

Fergielyn, or Fergie as she is also known, completed a conjoint LLB/BA (Classical Studies) with Victoria University of Wellington, and Professional Legal Studies, both this year in 2021, and is currently completing her Post Grad Honours Classical Studies Programme

With my continued keen interest to support Graduates and young people into fantastic opportunities, I’d like to sincerely thank Fergielyn, & Doris for their sharing!

RRC 32 | Rosey Review | Step into your RAAA, and when not to RAAA

RRC 32 | Rosey Review | Step into your RAAA, and when not to RAAA

Welcome to this Rosey Review episode.  In these segments I take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received and share my views

This episode's topic is "Step into your RAAA, and when not to RAAA", which came from recent catch ups with previous colleagues, mentees, and those wanting to be more, or less of who they currently are.  These are some amazing mid level women in their climb who I have provided mentoring and support to, so thought you might also get a little something out of this generalisation

These wonderful women collectively could not be more chalk and cheese, from self professed introverts eagerly wanting advice on how to express more on an extrovert side, to confident in expression working on the mix of passion for projects into professional collaboration Venn

In this episode I touch on:

  • Introvert traits
  • What questions to ask yourself and how to prepare if you’re wanting to become more of an extrovert
  • The dark side of being an extrovert
  • The importance of unlearning if you want to change behavioural traits
  • How delivery can build allies or burn bridges
  • A personal story from my journey

RRC 29 | Mark Donovan | Barrister, specialising in Employment Law and Civil Litigation

Full video version of this podcast available on YouTube http://bit.ly/rrc29mdyoutube

In this episode I’m joined by Mark Donovan, a specialist in employment law and civil litigation.

Mark commenced practice as a Barrister in Auckland in 2009 after practising as a Senior Solicitor at leading national law firm, Buddle Findlay.  Committed to providing excellent service and practical results, Mark gives clear advice to assist in the prevention, and resolution of, employment-related, and other civil disputes.

As a graduate of the University of Auckland with bachelor degrees in Arts and Law (Honours), Mark has presented seminars to clients and interest groups on employment-related legal issues.  He has also written articles for the Employment Law Bulletin and the National Business Review, given his expertise, I’m excited to be able to share his insights.

In this episode we dive into the unusual way he ended up in employment law and civil litigation, whether the reality of working in law matched he thought it would be when leaving uni, why he left a big firm to do his own thing, tips to employees on how to face disestablishment, what he loves about his work, what you should be thinking about when considering an employment offer and much more.

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome Mark to the Rosey on Recruitment & Career podcast!

RRC 28 | Rosey Review w/ Julia Vahry | Health, Insurance & Quality of Life

Welcome to this Rosey Review episode.  In these segments I usually take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received and share my views.  However, this episode is a little different.  I’m continuing with Julia Vahry from RRC 27, and audio from our intro call, to touch on:

  • Financial literacy
  • Easing pressure on NZ public health system
  • Women’s health
  • Quality of life impacting work performance
  • Health insurance
  • Delayed diagnosis impacts
  • Shifting mindset around health insurance as an employee benefit
  • Impacts of exclusions under personal vs employer cover
  • Creating opportunities for best possible resources in NZ

How is this aligned to Recruitment & Career?  Well your health is related to EVERYTHING, so this conversation around health opportunities, benefits, and improving the workplace is one that covers such a wide range in such a short space.

RRC 27 | Julia Vahry | Founder & Director @ Vahry Insurance

In this episode I’m honoured to be joined by Julia Vahry, Waikato's go-to Health and Life Brokerage, Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Community Hero medalist in 2021 and a woman doing amazing things as Director of Vahry Insurance

After almost a decade with the New Zealand Police, Julia has created a life insurance company with a difference, specialising in Business continuity / Risk and insurance / Mentoring / Business Networking & Having Fun

An advocate for breast cancer awareness and becoming a blood donor or creating events for those that can be, she partners with local businesses, and members of the community for impactful change.

Julia is not presently a hiring manager, and the Police recruitment process may look a little different from corporate organisations, but her understanding of how to align for a promotion, commitment to business networking, and understanding to educate others towards financial freedom, is one that aligns so well with my recruitment work and our Her Career empowered women focus on career, money, network that, I had to have her on my podcast!

Julia shares with us her amazing, personal, and real stories, covering:

· How to make a personal story relevant for a promotion

· How having a competitive spirit has helped Julia in business

· Why it’s important to be aware of the organisation around you and to check in about whether you’re moving away from who you are and your belief system to fit in

· How motherhood changes everything, but doesn’t mean you have to be put in a Mummy box

· That tall poppy syndrome is out there, but keep going and don’t be afraid to leverage the wins to do the greater good for the community

· And of course, to dream and do BIG

Although there was not enough time in my podcast to share all of Julia’s amazing stories, head over to my YouTube channel http://bit.ly/rrcyoutubeplaylist where you’ll find the full video.  Next week my review episode will dig into women's health with personal stories. Be prepared because both are AMAZING!

Having watched with inspiration from afar, it is amazing to welcome Julia to the Rosey on Recruitment & Career podcast!

RRC 25 | Jess Mason | Head of Marketing & Brand Experience @ iT360 + Founding Mentor @ Her Career

In this episode I’m joined by Jess Mason, Head of Marketing & Brand Experience at iT360, fellow founding mentor at Her Career and soon to be moving into the role of Senior Partnerships Marketing Lead at Fusion5.

What I love about Jess is her passion and enthusiasm for the people she works with and the projects she works on.

Jess, her husband Grant and their son Milo immigrated from South Africa in 2018.  She completed her MBA in October 2019 before starting back into the workforce.  What I am excited to have her share is her insight as an immigrant, a mother, a student and someone who is ever striving for, and supporting others to their own, excellence.

We round off with a great lesson to male managers and leaders on how not to be condescending when a valuable female employee tells you she’s pregnant, and how having a different leader in place when you return from maternity leave can change EVERYTHING!

RRC 24 | Rosey Review | A year of COVID, 6 months in Recruitment, A Reflection

RRC 24 | Rosey Review | A year of COVID, 6 months in Recruitment, A Reflection

When I began this podcast I promised a behind the scenes, not just sharing from the amazing guests I have the honour to spend time with, who are so incredibly generous with their time and knowledge, but of what I experience, how I am growing in this career pivot, and my continuous journey to be a better me than I was yesterday.

As you may sense, the topic for this Rosey Review episode [a shorter segment where I usually take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received, and share my views] is a contemplative one.

On 24th February I celebrated my first 6 months with Customise Talent Group and on the 28th February, NZ observed 1 year from our first COVID case confirmation.  This really made me think about what has changed in this time, with the world, with my family, with my network, and with me.

This episode is broken into three parts, a timeline, my lessons, both personal and COVID, and thirdly my celebrations.

RRC 22 | Rosey Review w/ Jason Brown | Candidate in an Employment Search

RRC 22 | Rosey Review w/ Jason Brown | Candidate in an Employment Search

This Rosey Review episode [a shorter segment where I take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received, and share my views], is a little different from the usual.  A video from LinkedIn caught my eye, so I have a guest to share his motivation and insights as a job hunter, while he’s right in the thick of things.

Jason Brown loves sales.  Having worked across Information Technology, Business Services, Publishing, Media and more, he is eager to secure his next role.

In his search he has put himself out there, literally, working in a project to create his first LinkedIn video, a candidate introduction.  I was interested to find out what led him to do that, and to give a human face to someone in the process of their employment search.

In our time together we cover why LinkedIn is important as a tool for a candidate, what other tools Jason uses, a note to interviewers about constructive feedback and why positive feedback is also important to candidates, top tips for candidates when looking for employment to ensure you still have purpose, even if it’s something that you usually hate doing, to reduce stress, why it’s important to upskill at this time and to remember not to be too hard on yourself because it can be tough out there.

Dyson & Libby by Auckland Library also get a non paid endorsement.

What I really hoped by sharing Jason’s story is to provide inspiration and insight to other candidates who may be in the same position.

For any comments, questions or inquiries about how I can help you as a business or candidate, drop me an email at rosey@customisetalent.com or send me a voice memo https://anchor.fm/roseyonrecruitment/message

I hope you enjoy this imperfect, whole human, realness sharing.

RRC 21 | Gillian Clark | CEO @ HYPR NZ + Transformation Consultant / SPCT @ Elevate To

In this episode I’m joined by Gillian Clark who shares how technology has changed over her career, how important it is to Conjure Moments, one of the Hypr guiding principles, and to always remain curious to grow.

As Founder and CEO of Hypr, a NZ company with world class coding architects consistently delivering high quality, complex projects in the simplest ways possible, it is her role to make sure Hypr is aligned with what customers truly want, rather than fitting clients into a pre-prepared box.  This way they continually help their clients to innovate and deliver value.

As a Transformation Consultant with Elevate To, Gillian works to elevate the behaviors, skills, and mindsets of clients and partners to create a more powerful, collaborative world.

Gillian rounds off this episode by getting personal and sharing how she made a statement against workplace double standards, way before others were even calling them out, in a unique way, with the best work place story I think I’ve had so far on my podcast!

Having worked with a few beautiful humans that are now at Hypr, it was my pleasure to welcome Gillian and her insights.

RRC 16 | Rosey Review | Christmas 2020 compilation

RRC 16 | Rosey Review | Christmas 2020 compilation

Welcome to this very special Rosey Review episode [usually a shorter segment where I take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received, and share my views], where I’ve created a 2020 Christmas compilation, as a gift to you all, from the 7 guests that have featured over 8 guest episodes since I began this podcast

First we start with Michael Viner, Manager Partner at Customise Talent.  We recorded this episode as I was about to start with the team and in this clip he shares a little about the experience of our Customise team, great recruiter traits and how important it is to us that we create trusted partnerships with our clients

Next is Logan Emery, E-Commerce Growth Marketing Graduate at WineDab who shares his career aspirations, how important a skill it is to have cultural sensitivity and a shout out to Air New Zealand from an outsiders view of great company culture.  A great lesson to organisations about how important the perception of working at your brand is to attract top talent

Then Mikayla Hopkins, Chief Marketing Officer at The Face Place, Founder of Her Career, and all round beautiful human shares the recruitment process of one of the hardest working Marketing Specialists she’s ever employed, the honesty, humour and appreciation of diversity, a great and heartwarming story

Next is Yang Zhang-Farhi, HR Consultant at UDC Finance Limited covering negotiation.  She shares how Her Career helped here and how she now advocates and shares her knowledge with others, while also considering from both candidate and company perspective

Next up are two clips from Nick Campbell, GM of Practice Product at Xero.  In the first episode we covered candidate view with the next from a hiring manager outlook, both were insightful, informative and entertaining

Following Nick is Rachel Adams, Head of Operations at Soda Inc & Co-Founder at LiveHappy NZ.  What I loved about my time with Rachel was her success in non traditional ways and her focus on team development, inclusion and kindness

Finally we round off with Elise Wilson, Solicitor at Lane Neave, also Founder & Host at The Young Woman, who shares with us her gorgeous mix of intellect, advocation, risk minimisation and future thoughts

If you have any comments, questions or inquiries about how I can help you as a business or candidate, drop me an email at rosey@customisetalent.com or send me a voice memo https://anchor.fm/roseyonrecruitment/message

RRC 14 | Rosey Review | Do you have a 2021 recruitment plan?

RRC 14 | Rosey Review | Do you have a 2021 recruitment plan?

In this Rosey Review episode [a shorter segment where I take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received, and share my views], I ask the question "Do you have a 2021 recruitment plan?"

Understanding where you are as a business and what human talent you will require to reach your 2021 goals should be an essential part of your roadmap, if it’s not, then you're running the risk of overextending your current staff or having an imbalance of skill to tasks with your organisation

COVID shifted what was essential and non essential in the workplace, it cemented or broke trust within organisations, and has caused a rethink of ways of working with what both employees, and employers want, and if there is alignment

This episodes plants only a few seeds of what should be considered, if you'd like to explore this in more detail reach out with your questions or to arrange an appointment

If you have any comments, questions or inquiries about how I can help you as a business or candidate, drop me an email at rosey@customisetalent.com or send me a voice memo https://anchor.fm/roseyonrecruitment/message

RRC 10 | Rosey Review - Building resilience as a candidate

In this Rosey Review episode [a shorter segment where I take a single topic aligned to recruitment, getting a job, or a career question I have received, and share my views], this episode focuses on “Building resilience as a candidate”.  I share tips that I provided in a recent presentation to the National Association of Women in Construction around resilience in general, from my personal experience as a candidate, feedback from those that have had difficult job hunting journeys,  and what I know has worked for a number of candidates and mentees

As well as my views, I’ve again reached out to my Customise Talent Group team members.  In this episode I share from Leanne Bell, one of our expert recruitment partners working in a number of industries, and Rob Firth, who specialises in Software Development and Data & Analytics from mid to executive level positions.

RRC 9 | Nick Campbell | GM Practice Products @ Xero PT 1 of 2

In this episode I am joined by Nick Campbell, General Manager of Practice Products at Xero.

Nick and I worked together at Fraedom, that’s expense management software, not the furniture store as some confuse. It has been a privilege to watch Nick grow with so much capability, both in his role at Fraedom and to now be in a dream role providing him with teams to bring his product vision, aligned to organisational strategy, to life.

Nick has experienced that elusive mix many strive to achieve in their career, of development and promotion with role longevity, having worked in both NZ and the UK, a testament to his talent

Now leading a team of around 120 at Xero, recruitment is part of his GM package.

We had such a great time catching up and sharing around recruitment and career that I’ve broken our conversations into two episodes.  This episode focuses mostly on Nick’s experiences, the recruitment process he went through with Xero as a candidate and tips for others who want to take big leadership steps in their career, the all important CV tips and what to do to stand out from other candidates.

The additional beacon in this share for me was his take on vulnerability, being so incredible and beautifully articulated.

I’m sure you’ll take many empowered insights away from our conversation.  Nick, thanks again for being here and, welcome to the Rosey On Recruitment podcast!
