Welcome (back) to Roswell: A Rewatch/Reboot/Recap PodcastSep 18, 2022
Ep 55: Graduation & How's It Gonna Be
It's series final time of two tv shows and a podcast! The Roswell gang is getting ready to hit the road and Liz is seeing the future. Roswell New Mexico offers a different kind of closure, but both eps feature a wedding and a slew of shippable moments. Plus, in a moment of fan service that serviced your hosts, Allie puts on the antenna headband!
Ep 54: Four Aliens and a Baby & Two Sparrows in a Hole
Tess is back and she brought the cutest baby in the universe. No, seriously, this baby actor is ultra cute in every shot. Over on Roswell, NM, Liz is losing it ("it" being her science brain) and the gang all meets up in the pocket dimension for a rescue mission. It mostly works. One more ep to go!
Ep 53: Crash & Follow You Down
This week, we have an alien ship crash, a pocket universe proposal and a dying fiance reveal. Ryan and Patrick think that the last two happen in the wrong order.
Ep 52: Chant Down Babylon & Who Died and Made You King & Down in a Hole
It's a three-fer episode. OG Roswell enters a Prestige TV era and Roswell New Mexico plays with a pocket dimension and Bad Liz who our hosts root for until she's mean to Rosa.
Ep 51: Panacea & Wild Wild West
Ryan and Patrick dig into the secrets of Metachem, the dynamics of a New England boarding school and the conflict between art and commerce on OG Roswell. On RNM, Liz is living a Western fantasy in a somewhat hokey but somehow charming alt-Roswell. Plus, Allie is here!
Ep 50: Ch-Ch-Changes & Missing My Baby
This week, we're back with the OG Roswell episode that is darkest for Maria stans, as she blithely goes around hurting her closest friends (and Jim Valenti) by being wrapped up in her nascent record deal. But, also? It's a freaking RECORD DEAL, so Ryan and Patrick support her hurtful ways. Over on Roswell NM, three episode's worth of action happens and your hosts reimagine the storylines to include a Tezca/Isabel stand alone ep that is really affecting, if only imaginary.
Ep 49: Kiss From a Rose & Dig Me Out
It's a double Roswell, New Mexico week! We talk Kyle/Isabel fallout, clu-velations and the moment late in the second episode that delighted Ryan the most.
Ep 48: I Married an Alien & You Get What You Give
This week OG Roswell is stuck in a sitcom and it's pretty great! Meanwhile, per usual there is a LOT happening on RoswellNM. Including a 40's flashback, Max keeping secrets, and a Mexico hookup that may lead to a very sad Kyle.
Ep 47: A Tale of Two Parties & Dear Mama
Your hosts start the ep discussing the OG Roswell New Years Episode! We have fun pairings, limited Alien action and a very charming Kyle. Roswell NM's Kyle is not having as good of a time, but he still might be having the best episode since he at least got a trip to Mexico
Ep 46: Steal My Sunshine & Fly & Subterranean Homesick Alien
It's a all-Roswell, New Mexico ep! Patrick and Ryan return to talk through the first three episodes of the final season. There's proposal etiquette, a rundown on a slew of new characters and severe distaste for men in bars with guitars, even if they're as hot as Michael.
Ep. 45 I Ain't Goin' Out Like That & Never Let You Go
Patrick and Ryan finish the season in binge mode and the eps are all the better for it! There are alien body swaps, secret crushes and a final twist that sent one of your hosts REELING.
Ep 44: Angel of the Silences & 2 Become 1
Woah woah woah. So much is happening in this Roswell New Mexico double-header. A preacher joins the alien fold, Liz does super science, and Rosa has a sweet storyline about pursuing her dreams. Plus, swordfights by the pool of a neat desert mansion!
Ep 43: Samuel Rising & Tones of Home
This week, it's Christmastime in OG Roswell, and at least one of our hosts is into it. Isabel realizes that Christmas is not just about ver vision, Kyle finds out that his dad is all about the young ladies and Max discovers that it's not all about him. Over on Roswell NM, your hosts feel like they missed a step, but enjoy the character pairings for each storyline and the return of horniness!
Ep 42: Behind the Music & Free Your Mind
This week Patrick consoles Ryan after a viewing of easily the most painful of all M&M breakups. Then, they break down RNM Maria's mind adventures and wish they were more pumped about the latest Michael/Alex developments.
NOTE: we had some audio issues, but things are back to normal after the first 5 minutes. Apologies!
Ep 41: Interruptus & Goodnight Elizabeth
This week, Patrick and Ryan express appreciation for the Dad team up in Roswell's b-story, pity Jesse in the a-story and find a lot to like in a new episode of RNM.
Ep 40: To Have and To Hold & Bittersweet Symphony
This week, Patrick and Ryan are joined by writer and podcaster Rachel Chapman (You've Got Hanks, Inside the Disney Vault). Together, the trio discusses the merits of a honky tonk strip club bachelor party, where a manager should sit when a band performs at a wedding and whether the awesome last five minutes makes up for a middling episode of Roswell NM.
Ep 39: Control & Killing Me Softly With His Song
This week, join Patrick and Ryan as they examine Max's dickier tendencies and empathize with Mrs. Evans on OG Roswell and then try to remember what they love about Roswell NM.
Ep 38: Secrets and Lies & Walk on the Ocean
This week, Patrick and Ryan are joined by Colin J. Morris. As expected, he is a delight and cottons on pretty well after not seeing a second of either Roswell in two years. On OG Roswell, the crew talks Max's trip to LA and the A+ performance that is Mr. and Mrs. Evan's reaction to Isabel's engagement. On Roswell NM a LOT is going on and they try to parse exactly how much of it was a dream.
Ep 37: Significant Others & Black Hole Sun
Isabel has some decisions to make on OG Roswell. Meanwhile, Michael is both happy and bad at time management, but Maria is both understanding and needing something in her own life. Also, the actors playing Liz's parents are KILLING IT! Over on RNM, we've got some ugly ass Wild Pony merch, New Mexico is on fire and everyone is fighting. Also, Kyle might be starting a Frequency rip off storyline and your hosts are here for it.
Ep 36: Michael, the Guys and the Great Snapple Caper & Give Me One Reason
With armed robbery in the recent rearview, Roswell season three gets to a very important development: Michael has friends! Of course, he almost immediately gets them all fired, but it's emotional growth. This episode also prompts Patrick and Ryan to decide exactly how to react when your paramour presents a hang glider in the dead of night. Over on Roswell, New Mexico, Liz and Max continue to have the cutest one night stands on record and Jones' backstory gives our hosts a chance to reflect on their favorite villain monologues. Yes, Lost is discussed.
Ep 35: Busted & Hands
It's season three on your favorite Alien soaps! First, we witness Liz and Max's descent from sweet skinnydippers to armed robbers. Then, on RNM, Liz and Max are separated but each find a great storyline for Ryan and Patrick to geek out over.
Ep 34: Baby, It's You & Off the Menu & The Departure
Triple-header-season-ender. We have Max getting emotional, Candy being sweet as hell and and a weird middle episode that Ryan and Patrick don't really know what to do with. This week, we complete Roswell season two!
Ep 33: Cry Your Name & It's Too Late and It's Too Bad
These episodes are just really sad and really grounded. That doesn't leave Patrick and Ryan much to be silly about, but they do their best and that's all Alex would've wanted.
Ep 32: Viva Las Vegas & Heart of Mine
This week, Patrick and Ryan discuss Max and Liz being the worst Gamble Guys, Isabel destroying boundaries and how Kyle remains the GOAT.
Ep 31: Disturbing Behavior & How the Other Half Lives
This week Patrick and Ryan dig deep into mansion home design, Ryan's Grey's Anatomy Izzy continuity theory and why Kyle and Alex are the best.
Ep 30: To Serve and Protect & We Are Family
This week Isabel is back to her old tricks, everyone is mean to Maria's cousin, and Sheriff Valenti is in T-R-O-U-B-L-E.
Ep 29: Max in the City & A Roswell Christmas Carol
Our episodes this week bring a big decision for Max, the return of Amy Deluca (yay!) and a whole lotta God talk. YMMV, but Patrick and Ryan have a good time parsing it all out.
Ep 28: Wipeout! & Meet the Dupes
This week, parents are shifted into another time dimension, Max is a bossy pants and Kyle remains the best. Also, it's time for the alt versions of our favorite aliens as they invade Roswell with their attitude, schemes and accents.
Ep 27: The End of the World & The Harvest
Surprise! Patrick and Ryan prematurely end their hiatus to do a Roswell s2 catch up. This week, it's FutureMax and a surprising amount of horniness on The End of the World and Creepy Nicholas living in a Ghost Town on The Harvest.
Ep 26: Summer of '47 & Mr. Jones
On this week's episode, Ryan and Patrick go back to the forties, but this time on O.G. Roswell. So many cute outfits! Also, a whole heckuva lot happens on Roswell, New Mexico. Things get wrapped up, Alex sings, Liz sees the ocean, and a whole new villain is revealed.
Ep 25: Surprise & Crash Into Me
If you are a teen boy wondering if you should do a striptease for your erstwhile girlfriend's birthday at a restaurant during a party attended by PARENTS, we have some advice. Bottom line: don't do it. Also, Max is being bossy and Jim is pissing us off with his cop shit. On Roswell New Mexico, there is A LOT happening. Some of it sweet, some of it shocking and some of it making us wish that there were 7-9 more eps this season to fully explore. Plus, Maria is in mortal danger, and Ryan is not happy.
Ep 24: Ask Not & Linger
This week on Roswell, it's time for Max to make a stand, Kyle to talk Buddha and Maria to wear very short skirts. We are definitely in the second season, people. Over on Roswell New Mexico, one scene may have single-handedly turned Ryan into a Steph/Kyle shipper. We also get Michael using his powers to be a badass, Diego demonstrating Acts of Service, and Max holding Liz responsible for her evil scientist shenanigans.
Ep 23 - Skin and Bones & American Woman
Season two of Roswell begins, bringing with it makeovers for human and alien alike. Over on Roswell, New Mexico, Liz lives her nightmare while the aliens go on a road trip to uncover their past. It's a lot, and that's not even mentioning the last 45secs of WILDNESS that leaves Ryan and Patrick straight up shook.
Ep 22: Destiny & The Diner
Who knew that the name of Roswell's season one finale combined with the name of the ninth episode of season two of Roswell, New Mexico would be so alliterative and cute? Not Ryan, until titling this episode of the podcast. Destiny & the Diner sounds like the perfect cozy romance novel to read during quarantine.
Ep 21: The White Room & Say it Ain't So
This week, Max is trapped in the White Room and Roswell is all the better for it. The aliens work together, X-men style while their human steadies give themselves ulcers waiting to see if Max can be rescued. Ryan and Patrick also debate whether the alien four are even aliens at all or simply "humans of alien origin." And if you were wondering whether Ryan is happy to find out that Ben Kenobi was supposed to be looking out for Luke back on Tattooine. Well, she is NOT. All of that, plus a fun episode of Roswell, NM! The hosts stay on track long enough to agree that Maria's nosebleed is something to worry about, discover the usefulness of the Roswell NM wiki, and miss Kyle across two Roswell universes.
Ep 20: Max to the Max & Como La Flor
This week there are more Max's than usual. On OG Roswell, the alien four are reunited and the humans just want to talk about feelings. That works out because that's what Ryan wants to talk about, too. Well, feelings and procedural Bones. Luckily, Patrick is up for both! They also dig into the return of Liz's mom, emergence of Maria's superpowers and whatever the heck is up with Kyle.
Ep 19 - Four Square & Sex and Candy
This week Patrick and Ryan discuss alien-related revelations, analyze sexy dreams and lament the limited screen-time for Kyle Valenti. If OG Roswell comes up short with Kyle, Roswell NM corrects the error by putting Hot Doctor Kyle in glitter and crystals. It's a look guys, and Ryan is still recovering.
Ep 18: Tess, Lies and Videotape & I'll Stand By You
This week, Patrick and Ryan talk chemistry class make-outs, busted little brothers, and remote camera hobbies on Roswell. Next, they talk the latest episode of Roswell, New Mexico and important issues such as: can you forgive a friend for bashing another friend in the head with a thesaurus? Patrick and Ryan agree that you cannot.
Ep 17 - Crazy & What if God Was One of Us
This week we discover exactly what Max does that makes Ryan so mad at him that she doesn’t forgive him for many episodes. Patrick and Ryan also determine every OG Roswell character’s fave make out spot and marvel over the power of a bad curly wig to render Julie Benz unrecognizable. Over on Roswell NM, a lot happens but our hosts find time to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of long-running procedural Bones.
Ep 16 - Sexual Healing & Good Mother
What happens when you sit down to watch an episode of your favorite show with your close friend only to be reminded that this is the episode where Liz and Max are turned on, like the WHOLE time? If you are Ryan and Patrick, you find much to discuss including what the sexiest of all fruit is and whether a single alien teen needs two bottles of syrup. Over on Roswell, NM, we get forties flashbacks, a hunky take on spirit Max and the inevitable hurt feelings that result from keeping a life changing secret from your best friend. Heads up, if your lover ever confronts you, asking "how much do you know?" is perhaps the worst response.
Ep 15: Independence Day & Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
This week, hosts Ryan and Patrick discuss the Michael-centric Independence Day, and lay out the importance of rules when playing the Monopoly game. At around 37mins, they transition to a Rosa-centric ep of Roswell, NM wherein all of the characters are taking control of their choices. This show is really good, guys! I mean, it may also push Ryan to the edge with multi-shipping, but totally worth it.
Ep 14: Blind Date & Stay (I Missed You)
This week, Ryan and newly-minted co-host Patrick Ehlers cover a drunk Max, a dead Max, a glittery Liz, a grieving Liz and a bunch of others who are in totally different head spaces than the characters that share their names. First, after an ep of OG Roswell, our hosts explore the realities of being in a band and whether a radio show needs a camera crew. Then, the hosts watch the second season premiere of Roswell, New Mexico and get hella psyched about the season ahead!
Ep 13: The Convention & Recovering the Satellites
This week, all-star guests Colin Morris and Patrick Ehlers are on mic to break down the events of Roswell's The Convention. We debate the alien's "Mud" strategy, decide which Roswell character would be a good podcast guest and fall in love with Mrs. Deluca. That last one is mainly Colin. Next we cover the cuckoobananapants season finale of Roswell, New Mexico. Max two-fists some lightning, finally beds Liz, and forces a healing onto Michael. It's wild and we have a great time trying to break it all down.
Ep 11: The Toy House and Champagne Supernova
Patrick Ehlers is back to discuss some really good (and Alex-lite) episodes. First, we break down the nuances of Maria and Michael's conflict which pretty much break down to maybe you just say what your friend needs to hear? Either that or a spring-loaded napkin holder. Also, poor Isabel. Though I guess it's worse for Isobel. Her husband is an evil alien. Before we get to that reveal, the gang gets all dolled up, Michael and Max have a heart-to-heart and Liz once again proved that she is no one's damsel. Patrick and I agree she is pretty much the best, but tied for second is Maria's gown - yowza!
Ep 10: The Balance & I Don't Want to Miss a Thing
This week, guest Nicole Villela is here to live through single episode that takes Max and Liz from first kiss through tearful break up. It's a lot of teen drama and the only cure is a boatload of adult drama on Roswell, NM. Isobel's memories of pursuing and murdering Rosa really put a damper on her picnic plans with Noah, but it's great for us, because now the alien serial killer is really starting to take shape. Nicole is adamant that the shape is Noah. Also, Maria is unfazed by all the murders of her patrons, but manages to be almost psychically insightful and set proper boundaries with Michael, so she's still my fave.
Ep 9: Heatwave & Songs About Texas
Holy moly! Things are getting hot hot hot with returning guest Kelly Nugent. We cover perhaps the shippiest ep of Roswell, Heatwave. In one episode there are extended make outs (hot), barefoot sweeping (not), and a Save Ferris cameo dance sequence (foxtrot?). After a full breakdown on Liz's Rave Top, we move on to an episode of Roswell, New Mexico. We get another take on Michael/Maria hookups and first kisses for Max/Liz. Of course, on this show things are way more complicated as Isobel is pod-bound and there is an alien serial killer on the loose. Kelly and I sort it all out and I think she is right on the money with her guess as to who the mysterious fourth alien may be.
Ep 8: Blood Brothers & Barely Breathing
Patrick Ehlers is back because fellow guest Jen Kleinrock and I want to make sure he has some exposure to Alex so that he can fall in love with him on both shows. We sort of get our wish as Patrick is exposed to OG Alex's bass-playing, ride-or-die-or-give-blood mentality, and hacker skillz. On the other hand, #RoswellNM Alex doesn't quite deliver the goods, but that could be our fault for laughing for a solid 3 minutes at Sgt. Manes' weak attempt to hide his secret lair rather than focusing on the beginning of Alex's confrontation storyline. Jen, Patrick and I also lament the mom stylings of Mrs. Evans and whether Noah could be any more attractive. (Ok, that last one may have been me in my head, but it was definitely happening)
Ep 7: River Dog & I Saw the Sign
This week, on Roswell we get an unholy alliance between Topolsky and Valenti, a reunion for two halves of a necklace, and the first union of Michael and Maria's lips. Yeah, sorry, that was gross, but it was just to calm you down. Vanessa Singleton is back to talk all of the post-road trip shenanigans and to offer a warning against following strange men into the desert. Then, we get into the episode of Roswell, New Mexico that introduces us to Mama Deluca, reinforces that Alex and Noah are the best people, and has Isobel making the only responsible choice you can make when you find out that you are a murderer who may relapse.
Ep 6: 285 South & Smells Like Teen Spirit
Colin Morris returns to discuss my first favorite episode of Roswell and (not at all coincidentally) the true beginning of the Michael/Maria ship. While I try to contain myself over all the spar-flirting, we also cover set dressing on a budget. The key? Use lots of velvet. Next, we talk for a long, long time about all of the plot points and our resultant theories after Roswell NM's flashback episode. Is Isabel being controlled by evil aliens? Does Kyle feel regret over being such a d-ck in high school? Is is okay to invite yourself to your crush's post-grad road trip? We may not have the answers, but we definitely come up with a lot of the questions.
Ep 5: Missing & Don't Speak
This week it's time to talk missing journals and secret bunkers with guest Kelly Nugent. First, we savor the moment of ultimate Michael/Liz shippiness. About 28 mins in, we start talking #RoswellNM, but really it's all about that Isobel reveal. So many secrets spilled, plus IRL one of us is considering Crocs!! (Spoiler: it's Kelly. I would never!)
