On this podcast, I invite instructors, staff members, and students to talk about their interests, the school, studying English, Japanese, or any other language, and just about anything they want to talk about. We will also have 'mini' lessons to learn grammar, vocaulary, idioms and expressions, Kanji (Chinese writing style), and more.

Episode 7: Ms. Sato and Russell Discuss Conversation Etiquette and Rakugo
Sato Sensei is a seasoned instructor at Evergreen Language School who taught overseas in San Francisco for 25 years. She enjoys the art of conversation and teaches both Japanese of all levels and English. In this episode, we discuss the rules for saying "Happy New Year!" and "How was your weekend?" Then the conversation takes an interesting turn as we discuss the traditional Japanese verbal entertainment of 'Rakugo' (落語, literally 'fallen words'). At one point in the converstion, the town of Okachimachi is mentioned. A Rakugo building was also mentioned by description only, Hiro Koujite Theater. Episode No2 Tomoko and Russell Johnson Discussing Compliments and Smells
This episode begins with Tomoko and Russell discussing masks then the conversation turns to why people give themselves compliments (Jigajisan: 自画自賛). Then the conversation takes another turn as the two discuss smells and nolstalgia. At one point in the episode, Russell tries unsuccessfully to end the conversation but realizes that it was an unnatural and 'forced' ending, so the conversation continues. Which ending do you like better, the first or the second?

Episode No3 Ms. Iida and Russell Johnson Discussing JFK, Motomachi, and the left side of the Brain
This episode begins in the middle of a conversation, but there is an introduction soon after. This conversation was recorded unrehearsed at Yutenji Evergreen Language School in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday May 22, 2021. It is actually the third episode recorded, but it is the first episode to air. This conversation was unscripted and focuses on (briefly) JFK and then the town of Motomachi in Yokohama and the left sde of the brain. Sometimes, you will hear a train pass by in the background. That is the Tokyu Toyoko Line.
