Today we have the pleasure of talking with Todd & Sheila Konitzer. Todd and Sheila are full time RVers who have turned their travels into a successful YouTube channel and have excelled at taking that online community into the real world with in person meetups and huddles. The realization of how short life really is hit the, square in the face in 2019. In January of 2021 they took off- having never RV'd before. They left with the thought that the worst that could happen is they would hate the tight space and return home to get new jobs. What started out as a journey for them, has become something so much bigger. They call the something bigger the "Switch Crew".  Connect with Todd & Sheila:

ATTENTION!! BIG CHANGES to the 2022 RV Entrepreneur Summit: Now only $99 for a 4 day event!
ATTENTION!! BIG CHANGES to the 2022 RV Entrepreneur Summit: Now only $99 for a 4 day event!
The 2022 RV Entrepreneur Summit is now the RV Entrepreneur Roundtable! The RV Life team and I want it to be an AWESOME experience - however with the state of the world, the compressed timeframe due to the major changes within the RVE brand this past year, and several other factors - our ticket sales were below what we needed them to be for the event to launch as planned. HOWEVER, as entrepreneurs we’re no strangers to adapting and overcoming so here is what our new roundtable will look like…

If the RVE Summit was a formal wedding, then the roundtable will be a dedicated business trip to the campground with other industry leaders - much more laid back and intimate. We’ll still have our speakers presenting on their areas of expertise, however it will be more of a conference room presentation feel than a main stage auditorium - no stage, no lights, etc.  In addition we’ve also added six different roundtable discussions where we’ll collectively discuss topics such as:  *Video creation and YouTube *Paid communities and courses
*Blogs, books, and magazines *Audio & podcasting *Brand merchandise and physical products *General business and entrepreneurial best practices As far as evening activities we’ll have four nights of camaraderie and celebration including a corn hole tournament, a meetup at the Ouray Hot Springs*, multiple campfires, and a fantastic live performance by The Border Hookups!

We’ll also have a dedicated indoor co-working space with WIFI available throughout the event where you can get away to take care of business as necessary. Now for the gritty details - each ticket will be $99.  Half of that will go towards logistics and the other half will be donated to Care Camps, an industry supported 501c3 non-profit who’s mission is to give joy, hope, and healing power of the outdoors to children with cancer and their families at a specialized oncology camp. (https://carecamps.org/)

Boondocking spots at The Camper’s Hub will still be available for $120 for the event(4 nights) - that’s a flat price for every spot: motorhome, trailer, tent, car camping etc - with access to fresh water spigot, RV dump station, trash services, as well as bathrooms and showers within the main building. (https://thecampershub.com/)
Join us for 4 days of intimate gatherings all focused on making connections and improving your business.
Grab your ticket here! https://therventrepreneur.com/summit Who: All nomadic entrepreneurs
What: The RV Entrepreneur Roundtable Where: The Campers Hub 18265 US – 550, Montrose, Colorado 81403
When: 7-11 September 2022

*Ouray hot springs has an entrance fee (https://ourayhotsprings.com/)

How a Natural Disaster Can Be Turned Into a Life of Adventure and a Full Time Content Creation Business With Gabe & Rocio Rivero of Our Mixed Journey | RVE 261
Today we’re talking with Gabe and Rocio Rivero from Our Mixed Journey.

Gabe and Rocio are avid travelers who used to live in Puerto Rico. After Hurricane Maria ravaged the island, life was truly put in perspective for them both. They realized how quickly things can turn, and the decided that enjoying life needed to be a now thing and bit a soon thing. So, they sold everything they owned, bought a 5th wheel and a dually truck to pull it, and became full-time RVers in a little over one month's time. Since then, they've bought house as a home base, but only after full-timing for 4 years between two 5th wheels and a Class B van they still call their home on wheels.  **The content creation seminar they referenced - unfortunately, we couldn’t find the link again.**

RVE 249: The One Thing You Want to MAKE SURE You Do When You Reach Out to Work With Brands With Spencer and Kristi Stevens of Adventurtunity Family
Today we have the pleasure of talking with Kristi and Spencer Stevens
Kristi and Spencer quit their corporate jobs in 2020 and hit the road with their son Kade. After spending six weeks of a paid sabbatical traveling in New Zealand and Australia they knew they wanted to rearrange their lives to spend more time together as a family. They leveraged their past experiences in  product marketing, brand marketing, digital marketing strategies, and brand influencer management to start up a boutique marketing business. Along with their commercial clients they also work with brands on the adventure brand - Adventuretunity. In this episode we talk about how: - They focus on small businesses and how relationships often start with an audit - small brands pay them to find holes in their current marketing and to come up with ways to make a bridge to where they ultimately want to be. -  Working together as a team allows Spencer and Krisit to offer a full package to their clients and not have to contract out venues, models, camera crews, copywriters and the rest of the items needed for digital marketing - between the two of them they cover it all. - They have incorporated products they use daily into long term clients and how they grew those relationships so that they are mutually beneficial to both parties - The biggest piece of advice in getting a conversation started working with a brand - And Kristi’s biggest pet peeve as a prior Influencer Manager and how to start off on the right foot when contacting brands you’d like to work wit Connect with Kristi & Spencer:

Today we have the pleasure of talking with Kimberly Crossland who is the founder of Roadpreneur and Cruisin' + Campfires, two companies designed to keep families together and living in freedom through travel and entrepreneurship.  In this episode we dive into how Kimberly built a physical product based business, called Cruising + Campfires, stemming off an awesome experience on a family roadtrip. How that business has adapted and morphed into a subscription based model and  why that leads to to easier scheduling, less stress, and more satisfied customers than an on demand one. Kimberly also has created an online community call Roadpreneur where she is gathering and coaching other entrepreneurs  through digital content and virtual community building. We discuss the differences, pros and cons to both product based business and digital based business and how some-timing rv travel is a real sweet spot between weekenders and full timers. RVE 247: How to Sell a Podcast and What’s Next for The RV Entrepreneur with Andy Robinowitz from RV Life
This weeks episode we have a super awesome interview. This is the first time I've done a live interview and it's also the first time I've co-hosted an interview. We've got Heath Padgett back on the podcast and we're interviewing Andy Robinowitz from RV Life.  If you didn't see the blog post the RV Entrepreneur podcast has been sold to Andy and the RV Life team.  All three of us were in the Dallas, Fort Worth Texas area so we got to sit down together, have a conversation in the same room and it's really cool to hear both of these gentlemen speak. We get to talk a little bit about how the transfer of the podcast went from Heath to Andy, and then we spend the rest of the time talking with Andy about RV Life and what he's grown the business into.

Andy is a repeat customer on the podcast.  (Episode 120: https://anchor.fm/rve/episodes/RVE-120-How-Andy-Built--Monetized-the-Largest-Online-RV-Community-ea37a9/a-a4g5npd) He was one of the early guests several years ago, but since then has created and established himself as a leader in the RV industry with his software and his forums and RV Life, the overarching umbrella of all his RV related content. I'm really excited for you guys to hear the conversation between the three of us. And I feel humbled to be in the room with these two gentlemen.  Enjoy! -Joshua

RVE 246: The Case for a 50/50 Business Partnership with Kristen Sargent from Legit Trips
Today we have the pleasure of talking with Kristen Sargent from Legit Trips, a travel company that runs international group trips.  Kristen says she is living her wildest dreams. She owns an international travel company with her best friend and also travels domestically every day with the love of her life in their RV. She's on a mission to help people feel curious, alive, and free to try or do new things. In addition Kristen shares her personal adventures on Instagram and Youtube as Perpetual Moves in an effort to inspire others to go after their own dreams no matter how wild or unconventional.  What started out as a hobby in planning international trips with friends has since turned into her full time gig and it turns out it is also a perfect fit for traveling full time in an RV. In this episode we talk about how Legit Trips came to be and why this side hustle succeeded in becoming her full time career.   Kristen has a unique story about going against traditional business advice and forming her partnership as 50/50 ownership and we get into whether or not she would execute the formation of a business that way again.
We go into the growth of a passion project and what it’s like to hire team members to replace you as the face of the business on the actual trips you’ve organized and sold clients on. Kristen firmly believes that the nomad lifestyle, and specifically RVing, is great for anyone in the travel industry and she goes into detail why she thinks this is the case. Then we wind down the interview talking about her personal brand, Perpetual Moves, and how that plays into the lifestyle.

Today we have the pleasure of talking with Edzui Szumowski who is currently traveling the country performing with The Vernardos Circus! Edzui (Edge-U) is a performer and ran away with the circus- TWICE. Once on a train in 1993 and this time in an RV in 2021. In this episode we talk about:  How the live performance industry was affected by the pandemic and Edzui’s pivot into entrepreneurship to flex with the market and stay relevant from a distance How circus life fits so intimately into RV life and some of the benefits and struggles of living while working with a traveling show The opportunities for future generations of performers and how entrepreneurs can successfully fulfill live and virtual market slices while on the road in their RVs  The struggles of live performances on the road with a society that is so connected and tethered to our devices all the time To connect directly with Edzui check out his website: https://www.edzui.com/

RVE 244: How a Travel Hacker Turned Full-Time RVer Can Get You a $3000 Hotel Room for $300 With Nate Ritter of RoomSteals.com

Today we have the pleasure of talking with Nate Ritter from RoomSteals.com Nate has travel hacked with his family of 5, around the US and Western Europe for 10 years without paying for a flight or hotel. Now he’s found another hack having to do with wholesale hotel prices, and he’s sharing it with the world while they travel North America full time in an RV.  In this episode we talk about how there are massive discounts to be had in the hotel industry, regularly 20-25% but sometime up to 95% discounted rates for those who know where to look.
We talk back through Nate’s past and find out how he got into travel hacking, what exactly travel hacking is, and why he is so enthusiastic about it. Nate tells how the “entrepreneurial disease” caused him to see an opportunity in the market and the steps he took to create Room Steals into a sustainable travel business only months before the pandemic shut down most travel yet the business model they run has been able to sustain it through to the other side and they’re now seeing a big upswing in user travel.
I was very intrigued at how he step up room steals to allow both consumers and professionals to utilize the service and that travel agents who use the platform can almost double their commissions instantly with this service.
Jump into the episode and let me know what you think about the “rolling Monday” way to keep on track with travel days!

They are a married couple who have lived full time on the road since January 2019.  They left their high paying corporate careers in their mid-thirties to live life to its fullest through travel and experiences.  In preparation for working on the road they launched their new business, Irene Iron Fitness, where Chris coaches clients 100% online as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Pn2 Level Certified Nutrition Coach.  Aaron drives their entrepreneurship spirit with his enthusiasm and technology skills to run the back office of the website as well as all of their YouTube production for Irene Iron Travels.  Together, they practice the healthy lifestyle that they preach and love helping others live their best life out on the road.  The Willers are planners and methodical executers - they spent a few years building their reserves so that when they launched they had almost 5 years of runway available.

They started their entrepreneurial journey from square zero - their corporate jobs had nothing to do with what either of them are currently working on.

They started out in a airstream van, spent a summer overloanding in a rooftop tent and are now finding their new normal in a 26 foot travel trailer that is the perfect place to welcome home their newest edition, a basenji pup named Louie!

RVE 242: Why It Can Be Difficult to Build a Community Based on Free Content and Lessons Learned From Publishing Four Magazines with Demian Ross From RV Today
RVE 242: Why It Can Be Difficult to Build a Community Based on Free Content and Lessons Learned From Publishing Four Magazines with Demian Ross From RV Today
I’m excited for todays episode, I’m joined by Demian Ross. Demian is a repeat guest on the podcast but this time around he is a bit more of an RV Entrepreneur than the last go around. Demian has created two magazines for the RV community - Rootless Living and the newly launched RV Today Magazine. While his first magazine, Rootless Living, that was for digital nomads, by digital nomads was successful, Demian noticed that there was a huge hole in the market for RVer’s and there was no independent magazine who’s mission it was to serve the rv community from an unattached standpoint. RV Today is a magazine for RVers, by RVers and because its not tied to any other RV organization it is truly an independent magazine in all sense of the words. In this episode we talk about: How Demian created his own hashtag that is now being used throughout the entire RV community and how #rootless is sometimes misunderstood What its like building a very niched down magazine and podcast and what lessons he’s learned from Rootless Living that is now being applied to launching RV Today How equipment advances have put the power of production at a super attainable level for everyone We talk about why Demian doesn’t think he’ll ever hire “full time” staff for his businesses The generator genesis and how it sparked the creation of Demian’s RV related magazine Connect with Demian and his teams:

RVE 241: When an RVer Designs Products for RVers - The Result Is Eloquent With Jim Phelan From Airskirts
RVE 241: When an RVer Designs Products for RVers - The Result Is Eloquent With Jim Phelan From Airskirts
One of the things I really like about the rv lifestyle is that it can be very minimalistic, and yet can also satisfy the inner gear nut in me because there are a ton of different products and ways to solve solutions that arise.  While at the 2022 Tampa RV show I came across a product that absolutely blew me away. It was created by a fellow Fulltime RVer and it solved a need that full timers face in such an eloquent and simple way that I really was scratching my head - no one has done this yet? I got to talking with the inventor and founder and really connected with his story and invited him to come onto the podcast. Today’s guest is Jim Phelan from AirSkirts. A software engineer by trade, Jim started AirSkirts in 2020 after solving a real-world problem he encountered with full-time RV living. In 2016 Jim sold his home in Brooklyn, NY along with most of his possessions, and began traveling the US in his Airstream travel trailer.  Unwilling to compromise and use an inferior method to camp in cold weather, Jim set out to design a better way to skirt the bottom of his rv – AirSkirts is a series of inflatable tubes that inflate under the RV, creating an insulated, reusable, and installation free skirt.  In this episode Jim tells us about the product development journey of Air skirts and some of the struggles and lessons he learned along the way.

We get into what its like to own a business that is physical product based versus the digital marketplace he previously worked in and I love how Jim bootstrapped the whole thing and is still on the fence whether he would do it that way again or not - it really shows his down to earth nature and is a struggle that all of us entrepreneurs can relate to.
 Enjoy the show!

RVE 240: Buying an Established Business Can Be the Best Way for RV Entrepreneurs to Get On the Road With Dustin and Nicole Schroeder From Fulltime Families
Today we get to talk with Dustin and Nicole Schroeder who are the current owners of Fulltime Families.  Dusting and Nicole Schroeder are nomadic entrepreneurs that run multiple businesses from the road. They have traveled Fulltime with their family of 5 since 2017 and  are very engaged in the RV community through their company Fulltime Families. Fulltime Families  hosts over 12 events each year, in addition to  providing resources for new and veteran rvers, they focuses on creating connections for families to help sustain the nomadic lifestyle. Nicole is also a cofounder of the RV Family Virtual Summit which is something we’ll touch on later in the episode. We talk about how their personal rv travels led them to becoming more involved in the RV community and the story behind how they became the owners of the decade old rv community. Before we get into the interview I’ll say that Fulltime Families runs a ton of Facebook groups - pick out a number in your mind as to what a “ton” of Facebook groups to facilitate would be to you and I’ll check in with you afterwards to see where our numbers compare. We talk about how many folks expanding from Facebook groups and how Fulltime families is accommodating that shift in their audience and how two people facilitate 10 to 15 in person events and so many virtual communities - as I’m sure you can guess - its not alone.
With events being a major portion of the business model we get to chat with the Schroeders about the major obstacles and benefits of running a business that  doesn’t host events in the same Location each time. Dustin also owns a retail store in Minnesota so we jump into a few aspects of running a sticks and bricks retail location as a nomad and the challenges and growth opportunities that situation can provide. RVE 236: Tax Season 2022 - Setting Yourself Up For Success With Heather Ryan The Tax Queen
Heather Ryan is the owner of The Tax Queen, a tax firm supporting entrepreneurs and digital nomads. As a federally-licensed Enrolled Agent, she supports her clients year-round with tax preparation, tax planning and bookkeeping. She's been traveling in a 5th wheel with her husband and two dogs since September 2016. In this episode Heather tells us about being an enrolled agent and that means versus an account or CPA. We talk about the challenges of switching into a nomadic lifestyle and how she has grown her business while on the road. We get into how being a digital nomad herself allows her to better serve her clients and what her services offer over a more traditional tax preparer. There are a few things that we as entrepreneurs can do to make the tax filing a smooth interaction and Heather goes into the biggest issue she sees with clients and ways to solve those problems. We talk about how detailed our descriptions of individual line items need to be and several deductions folks often miss out on when preparing their taxes. Being a new entrepreneur myself I ask what a tax professional and client relationship looks like and when the best time during the tax season is to actually file your return. This episode is a quick one, but should give you some awesome insights to make your 2022 tax season one with a little less stress. RVE 232: Come stay at our "campground!" (Under contract and making plans to break ground!)
After three years of dreaming, shopping, researching, and hoping we could find our own campground, we are under contract and closing next week on our own property! In today's episode, we are diving into: Where our property is and some of our building plans How we found this opportunity (and passed on it and then decided to go for it!) Our many, MANY ideas for what we can do with this space The fact that 1 GB fiber internet gets set up next week (Heath NEEDS everyone to know this 😂) And how you can come to stay at the campground this year—even though the actual RV sites won't be built out or open until the 2022 camping season! --- This episode is sponsored by Pillowpak. One thing almost every RV lacks is a place to hang up and store a backpack, but you always need one for hiking, taking an overnight trip, or just packing up your laptop to work away from your rig. Pillowpak offers a line of lightweight, machine-washable backpacks and organizing bags that easily roll and stow away in small spaces. We spent two weeks in Florida and we stayed a short two-minute walk away from the beach and used the 55-liter Pillowpak to fill with towels, snacks, water, extra clothes, and we brought along the utility bag to stuff our wet towels into so that snacks and clean clothes didn’t get sandy and wet. And then since the bags are all machine washable, before we left Florida, we could run everything through the washing machine so we aren’t tracking sand around everywhere! Pillowpak has a line of different bags depending on what you’re looking for. To check out all of their super lightweight, easily rolled and stowed, and fully machine washable products and pick up a Pillowpak of your own, visit getpillowpak.com. --- We can't wait to have keys in hand and make this schoolyard from the 1940s into a modern campground. RVE 223: Kara & Nate: A Case Study on Finding Success on Youtube
RVE 223: Kara & Nate: A Case Study on Finding Success on Youtube
In 2016, Kara and Nate set off for a year around the world, planning to vlog their adventures. They didn't expect that four years later, they would have over a million subscribers, visit 100 countries, and have one of the most popular travel vlogs on all of Youtube. This episode is pulled from our 2020 RV Entrepreneur Summit, just days after international travel began to close, so it's recorded from a hotel room in Singapore. The RV Entrepreneur Summit is our annual conference for full-time travelers on how to build a business on the road and in their mainstage presentation, Kara and Nate break down how they turned making travel videos into their dream business. In their talk, they share: How travel hacking got them starting traveling for cheap Year by year how much money they made on Youtube The struggles and wins of growing their Youtube channel Getting free experiences (and if they were worth it) How they diversified their business Their secret recipe for how to record videos now AND how they ended up totaling 7 Vespas when they tried to run group tours in Italy. One thing that I loved and I think you'll appreciate is their transparency. They've always been very open and genuine on their Youtube videos, but in this episode, they really pull back the curtain and share how they went from vlogging full-time and losing money to making over $50,000/month with a million subscribers. They do in their presentation refer to photos or screenshots a few times. If you want to see what they are talking about, you can watch the video of this presentation online here. Working in finance in New York City, Dave started dreaming about living in a van and taking his hedge fund on the road. So he got another and soon had 6 vans being rented out. Meanwhile in Colorado, Dave's college buddy Matt was renovating and building out a van of his own. When Matt shared how much it cost him to buy and build out the van and that he sold it for a profit after taking it cross country, the friends had an idea: Let's build out custom vans and rent and sell them. In this episode, they share their story of getting started. RVE 221: How This Blogger Makes A Full-time Living on Instagram
RVE 221: How This Blogger Makes A Full-time Living on Instagram
Kay has been traveling internationally with her family and son for years and made the jump into full-time RV travel. Her travel blog was making money, but not nearly enough to support her family full-time. The RV was her chance to go all-in. In this episode, Heath and Kay talk about where Kay has found success monetizing her blog, how to connect with brands, and what makes you stand out on Instagram. One of the things I loved about this episode is when Kay explains how to find success on Instagram because the answer isn't "have the most followers" or "take the best photos." She'll share more about halfway through the episode. But the Mom Trotter blog isn't Kay's only business she runs on the road. She also runs Black Kids Do Travel, which offers community and resources to families of color who want to travel more. What else Heath & Kay cover in this episode: The primary ways Kay monetizes her blog & social channels Finding success on Instagram How to collaborate with brands Setting your rate to work with brands Why RVing is the BEST decision Kay's family has ever made Is there a "best age" for traveling with kids? And then Heath and Kay will give you all the feels talking about how much more meaningful travel is with kids. 👨‍👩‍👦 👨‍👩‍👧 Links from this episode: Follow Kay @themomtrotter on Instagram or Youtube Black Kids Do Travel Website Black Kids Do Travel Facebook Black Kids Do Travel Instagram This week's unofficial sponsor: Camp Carpe Diem

RVE 220: CPA Advice to 3 Common RV Tax Questions
RVE 220: CPA Advice to 3 Common RV Tax Questions
This week on the show, Heath is interviewing Tim Ewing. After years in the C-suite, Tim decided to leave behind his steady paycheck and travel with his family. But he couldn't retire at 51. So he started Quest CPA and a consulting business on the road. There are a few things I really loved listening to Heath and Tim. One, they both share the stories of their first business failures and the lessons they learned which are a must hear for any entrepreneur. Two, Tim is really open and honest about what his expectations were and how he's adapted in the past 7 years of traveling to focus on the right things—like working with his family, a lifelong dream, and how he's made that a reality. Plus at around 23 minutes, Heath asked Tim to share his tax expertise and answer three incredibly common RV tax questions: Can I write off my RV mileage? If I domicile in a tax-free state, do I need to pay taxes in other states? And how should I file my business? So if this tax season you're wondering about any of those things, Tim has the answers for you. ____ Today’s episode is sponsored by ID Plans (and it’s actually less of a sponsorship than it is an opportunity).
