Breast Feeding Week with Crystal on 13th August, 2021
After waiting for five years, Lucia finally had a baby boy. She was so excited about it that she went for antenatal care immediately and did not miss a single appointment. One thing she learnt was that she should give her baby breastmilk alone in the first 6 months.
Being a first-time mother and having waited for so long to have her baby, Lucia was determined to follow all the advice from hospital including the advice to give her baby breast milk alone in the first 6 months.
However, when the baby was around two months Lucia started getting stressed because she felt like she did not have enough breastmilk to satisfy her crying baby.
Lucia was a trader in a competitive produce business and on a daily, Lucia used to wake up at 6am to go to the garden or to the market to pick supplies for her shop even after sleepless nights because of the crying baby. Her husband would also leave home very early and she was forced to leave the baby behind with her 12-year-old babysitter.
Lucia would return home to cook, wash and find something small for self to eat around midday.
Due to COVID19, business was not so good, Lucia had to keep working harder and harder and so was forced to maintain this routine. Lucia’s breastmilk kept reducing and eventually she could not take the stress of her baby crying because of hunger. Also, her mother told her it was ok to give soups at three months because the baby was already expressing interest in other foods.
So, she decided to start giving her baby boy soups, diluted cow milk and porridge at 3 and half months even though she had really wanted to follow the advice to give breastmilk alone because of its rich benefits.

Mary received the news of her new baby with so much happiness and because the family was very excited about the baby, it was proposed that Mary stays with her mother-in-law so that she gets adequate care.
During her stay, Mary was advised by the many visitors who came to visit.
Some advised her to give some drinking water to the baby, others told her not to breastfeed because she would get sagging breasts and as a new mother this confused her a lot and she needs advise on how to keep her baby healthy.

Mrs. Mwesigye operates a shop in Makindye.
She lives with her husband and 2 children, a daughter and son aged 18 and 20 years respectively. Last week, she realized she had general body weakness, headache, diarrhea and dry cough which had lasted for two days. Mrs. Mwesigye decided to take a COVID-19 test, and it turned out positive. She was not very sick so the health worker gave her supportive treatment and told her to go home and self-isolate from the other family members until the symptoms resolve.
Mrs. Mwesigye went home and due to fear of stigma, she feared to disclose to her family that she tested positive for COVID-19. However, due to continued pressure from her family about the test results, she disclosed to her husband. The husband could not contain the news. He panicked and told her that even if their house had a free room where she could isolate, he could not allow her to stay with the family.
She pleaded with him and explained how she would isolate herself with only one person supporting her to access necessities but in Vain. Mr. Mwesigye insisted that she should take her Corona away.
Mrs. Mwesigye’s parents are in advanced age and at a greater risk of adverse COVID-19 disease effects so she couldn’t go to her parent’s house. Therefore, she requested one of her brothers to accept her to isolate herself at his home. Fortunately, the brother accepted.
At her brother’s house, she was supported to take her treatment in isolation and 13 days later, she had completely recovered from all the symptoms. Trying to return to her home, Mr. Mwesigye told her that she should stay away because he thought that she could still infect them.

Mr. Musoke is a boda boda rider and operates at Bahai Temple stage (use a familiar stage). He lives in a two roomed house with his wife and their 3 year old son. Last week, he realized he was feeling general body weakness, headache and dry cough for the last two days. Musoke decided to take a COVID test, and it turned out positive.
Since Musoke’s condition was not severe, the health worker gave him supportive treatment and recommended self-isolation and home-based care for him. However, for fear of stigma, Mr Musoke first feared to disclose his COVID-19 status to his family and clients. He later got courage and disclosed to his wife and customers.
It was tough for him, not being able to work for 2 weeks. Luckily, his wife was supportive, he isolated in the bedroom and his wife and child utilized the other room. Musoke’s wife consistently wore her mask, washed her hands and dis-infected as she was taking care of Musoke.
Musoke’s health improved and on day 10, he was feeling great. He did the COVID test again and he was negative.
Musoke’s wife made sure that the beddings, clothes in the room Musoke was sleeping in during isolation were thoroughly washed with soap and water and sundried while other items were cleaned using a cloth soaked with alcohol based sanitizer.
