Bonus Ep47: Tahrmageddon- Joseph Peter; Hard Yards Hunting
For the hunting community of New Zealand, the last fortnight has been of great concern as the Minister for the Environment, the Honorary Eugenie Sage, has proposed the cull of 25,000-30,000 Tahr, with the aim to eliminate them from the West Coast and Mount Cook National Parks. Whilst her plan is based on very shaky and old science (population is estimated to be between 17,000-54,0000 with 95% confidence interval), a cull of these numbers, in particular one that indiscriminately targets Bulls is not a desirable outcome for general hunters and those in the hunting industry. I had the pleasure to sit down with Hard Yards Hunting’s Joseph Peter to get a bit more insight on what it has meant for the industry and recreational hunters alike. Ep38- Eating Crickets; Grilo Protein
Grilo means “cricket” in Portuguese. According to the dictionary, a cricket is a brown or black insect that makes short, loud noises by rubbing its wings together. Our love for exercising triggered the search for a clean, high protein source to boost everyday meals and smoothies after surfing, running and training. Disappointed with the social and environmental impact caused by most of the protein sources available on the market, we thought it was time to look for alternatives. After a long journey we found out about edible bugs. And that 80% of the world’s nations is already eating them.
