In this episode, I am joined by Saqib Rizvi. Saqib is a Meditation Coach with training in the Mahayana tradition-based Tibetan meditations from the Tushita Meditation Centre in India.

I invited Saqib on to the podcast because having meditated with him, I wanted to hear all about his journey, but I wanted to home in on managing our energy in current times considering what’s going on around us.

In addition, though, we ended up delving into all sorts of juicy topics:

  • The three types of spiritual ego-you’ll really want to hear this.
  • Nonattachment in order to stay present
  • Misconceptions around manifestation

If you enjoy the episode, I’d love you to go and leave a review and rating on Apple Podcasts. Also, don’t forget to subscribe.

#31 Egemen Sanli | Finding your own musical voice | Embodying divinity through music

In this episode, I am joined by Egemen Sanli. Egemen is a California based world musician who refers to himself as 'a modern dervish traveling to find his own voice within world music, carrying the flag of his Turkish roots as a musician'.  Extremely talented, Ege plays a diverse range of instruments which include the sitar, native American and Turkish flutes, the hand pan and the guitar.

In this conversation we explored Ege’s Turkish roots in Southern Turkey and the impact of Rumi; the Sufi mystic, poet and philosopher on Ege’s life.

Ege’s musical journey began with heavy metal, both as a fan and an artist. This then led to exploring different spiritual styles and playing for thousands of yogis in the bay area of San Francisco. We also discuss why world music has not infiltrated the masses when it has so much meaning and depth?

#30 Sadie Marquardt | Becoming an expert in your craft | Quashing the 'starving artist' mindset | Self love and body confidence

In this episode, I talk to professional belly dancer, dance teacher and founder of world dance platform Raqs online, Sadie Marquardt. This is a woman I’ve admired for over ten years. A woman who has built an empire doing what she loves. A woman who has really honed her craft and not taken any shortcuts whilst doing so.

So here’s some of the juicy topics we covered:

· Body confidence and self-love

· Honing your skill over years and years in order to become an expert and a voice

· Quashing the starving artist mindset

· Failure and how to move forward.

For someone who I see as a master of their art, I felt no ego from her. This was probably one of the most beautiful takeaways from this episode.

What we covered:

  • How to heal your feminine.
  • Meeting yourself deeply.
  • The ultimate desire of every man is to serve the feminine.
  • Balancing your masculine and feminine energy.

#28 Saima Majid | 2020; the year I embraced my sensuality and my divine feminine.

In this episode, it’s just me on my own and rather than the journeys of my guests, you are going to hear about my own personal transformation this year. Just as I get to a point where I feel as though I’ve learnt all I need, life seems to throw yet another challenge. Although I mock, I will always be a lifelong student hungry to learn as much as I can about myself and the world around me. A lifelong student and therefore hopefully, a lifelong teacher so that I can pass this knowledge and wisdom on for the benefit others. As the title says 2020, has been the year of sensuality and learning about and embracing my divine feminine and so I share what I have learnt as a woman.

#27 Rani Circle | Growing up as a British South Asian woman and third culture kid | Denying a part of your identity to fit into your working and social environment

In today’s episode, I will be talking to my guests about growing up as third culture kid here in the UK. By third culture kid, I mean when your parents are from one land and you were born into another.  We will be delving deep into how this impacts your life.

For many of us growing up as second generation Asians, I would say that we lead a double life, one within the home environment and a very different one outside of the home. Because of the polarity between the two, the home life often got hidden from the world in order to survive.

Having to deny such a huge part of your identity has come at a price for many of us South Asians and so in today’s episode I am joined by two amazing women and dear friends of mine, who are founders of a tech startup which looks to tackle some of these issues head on.

Jas and Bally are the brains behind the digital app Rani Circle which aims to provide a safe space in which South Asian women can come together to connect, share and support each other.  As a result, combating loneliness and isolation. The sister duo want to create a supportive environment in which women can feel a sense of belonging and be their authentic selves.

#26 Lebo Grand: Part 1 | The Sensuality Episode | Pornography and it's damaging impact on intimacy | Sexuality versus sensuality | Religion, sin and sensuality

In today’s episode I talk about sensuality, a topic i'm hugely passionate about and something which is not talked about enough. I’m joined by women’s sensuality coach Lebo Grand. Lebo works with women helping them to cultivate their own sensuality.

If you are someone that only associates sensuality with sex, then you may be quite surprised to learn the full breadth of what sensuality actually is. I love this quote by the great writer James Baldwin who said ‘To be sensual, I think, is to respect and rejoice in the force of life, of life itself, and to be present in all that one does, from the effort of loving to the breaking of bread'.

if you are in touch with your own sensuality then you may find a lot of comfort in this episode. Something that Lebo said which really resonated was that, the sensual path is a lonely path and so as a sensual person, if you’ve ever felt that loneliness, pls know that you are not alone. I’ve also noticed that it’s often the sensual people that are the biggest change makers because they are able to access parts of themselves that maybe others cannot and therefore share their beauty with the world.

I’m also going to do something I’ve never done before. The day after recording this, I went onto Instagram and the first thing I saw was an India Arie song that Lebo had posted on his feed. I literally felt myself melting into a heap of gushiness so to kick off this episode, I’m going to begin with the queen of sensuality herself.

So get those scented candles lit, take some nice deep full breaths, kick off your shoes, leave that to do list exactly where it is and enjoy the episode.

#25 Dr. kaur | Trauma, what is it? | How does it impact our lives? | How can we heal trauma?

In this episode I speak to Dr. Kaur, Dr. Kaur is a clinical psychologist who specialises in trauma.

What I wanted to really get to the bottom of is, what trauma actually is, because as a society we don’t generally have a good understanding of trauma and how it impacts our lives. Gurpreet gives us an insight to the different types of trauma that one can face in their life, how to recognise it and how to deal with it.

She also shares how culture can play a part in poor mental health particularly in the south Asian community and how one manage their own wellbeing whilst being empathetic and supportive to another.

This is a conversation that needs to be continuously had because it’s only if we keep talking about it that we can actually change it.

If you enjoy the episode, pls subscribe, rate and review.

More about Dr. Kaur

Dr Gurpreet Kaur is an experienced clinical psychologist who is based in Surrey. She works with both adults and young people in her private practice and focuses specifically on trauma related difficulties using a range of therapeutic approaches. She supervises other therapists and has a role within the NHS supervising Genetic Counsellors. Dr Kaur is passionate about helping people to work through difficult life experiences which have led to emotional pain and self-sabotaging coping strategies. #24 Saima Majid | Happiness, what even is it? | How do we cultivate it?

In this solo episode I’m going to talk about happiness and what even is it? Happiness I would say is the single most chased emotion by people but what do we actually know about happiness? We grow up being told, mainly by the media, our family's and wider society, that if we get X+Y, we will achieve happiness. Sadly, the more we experience life, the more we learn how false this perception really is.

It took me a lot of self-enquiry, digging really deep and actually facing my own shadows to finally come to a realisation of what happiness means for me.

So, what is it then? Well, certainly not what I used to think it was. I am going to share my own findings on happiness with you and what I have learnt along the way on whether it’s possible to be happy or not?

#23 Dr. kavya | Ayurveda: The science of life

#23 Dr. kavya | Ayurveda: The science of life

In episode 23 I chat to Ayurveda practitioner Dr. kavya. Ayurveda is an Indian system of medicine which comes from the Sanskrit term meaning the science of life. Ayurveda is a holistic approach to wellbeing which gets to the root cause of disease in the body as opposed to just treating the symptoms.

Dr. Kavya is a specialist in Ayurveda Panchakarma, and received her degree from one of the most renowned universities in India, RGUHS (Rajiv Gandhi university of health sciences). She is one of few individuals who is trained in clinical as well as experimental research on the pathology called Hypothyroidism.

She has published articles on diseases treated by Ayurveda panchakarma. Also, attended multiple seminars and presented scientific papers on Ayurveda. On 22nd Dec 2017, she won the best paper presenter award in an “International conference on Ayurveda and medicinal plants” held in Colombo, Sri lanka.

On 26th March 2019, she received a gold medal and certificate from the governor of Karnataka for acquiring the highest marks in the field of Ayurveda panchakarma. In her own words “The Power of Healing lies within everyone, but very few of them are aware of this power & when you know, it’s you, your mind, your willpower that has the potential to raise this power and make it work for you to start your healing journey."

Dr. kavya gives us so much insight into Ayurveda and like me you may be tempted to jump on the next plane to India to find out more after listening to the episode.

#21 Ingrid Marsh: Soulful Living with Ingrid | The impact of institutional and systemic racism in the UK | How do we overcome our personal unconscious biases?

The death of George Floyds death in Minneapolis on May 25th has awakened the whole world up to this disease called racism which is so present in our societies today. We now find ourselves speaking openly for the first time about something which has been hidden or not talked about for millennia. I feel that this is one of the most important discussions to be had of our time and in todays episode I have invited my good friend Ingrid Marsh who has personally been fighting against racism for many years of her life. By bringing these issues up to the fore, there's a feeling of hope that change may be possible.

If you enjoy this episode, pls subscribe, rate and review and if you have any feedback or comments, do share on our trailblazer’s journey page on Instagram.

#20 Sukhi Sian: Enlight Counselling | How your masculine and feminine energy impacts your life and relationships

#20 Sukhi Sian: Enlight Counselling | How your masculine and feminine energy impacts your life and relationships

I am joined by Sukhi Sian from Enlight Counselling. I invited Sukhi onto the podcast to talk about a topic that I have been deeply curious about recently. This is the subject of the two energy systems within every human being, referred to as masculine and feminine energy.

I wanted to learn what each of these means, how we can become aware of our own energy and how these play out in modern life and relationships. It’s a huge topic and I don’t even feel as though we touched the surface but what I did realise was that once you learn how it works, it enables you to know yourself better and move more harmoniously through the world and in romantic relationships.

If you enjoy the episode pls do subscribe, rate and review.

More about Sukhi

Sukhi has been working in supporting roles since she left school.  As a young person she often sensed that there was more to what met the eye; something unseen and unexplained that played a significant role in people's emotions and behaviour.

Sukhi qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor in 2006 and through her studies she explored the development of psychotherapy from a feminist perspective. She has since worked across the Midlands provided counselling to clients of all ages and genders  including children and young people on a range of difficulties such as stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, loss/bereavement, divorce/separation, family change, addictive behaviour, offending behaviour and all types of abuse experienced as a child or later on in life.

Sukhi is also a Clinical Supervisor for Counsellors and more so recently in the last 4 years, through her own life experiences trained in Reiki, crystal healing and Numerology. She recognised the many benefits of such therapies and how they play an important role in healing of the mind, body and the soul - all need to be in harmony for overall well being as she believes one cannot function healthily without the other.

Sukhi’s passion is to support people to heal and grow through self-love and self-care, no matter how little or big this may be, what matters is the difference it makes. Through her work she helps clients on their journey back to themselves; reconnecting with their lost parts, realising their 'true self', exploring who they are and who they want to become in order to live a more authentic life.

#19 Saima Majid | Spirituality & Success | Starting life over

In this solo episode I talk about the part that spirituality plays in cultivating a life filled with joy, meaning and purpose. Particularly how this has manifested in my own life.

Many people think about spirituality as being woo woo. I actually think that spirituality is the foundation for success. It’s an anchor which allows you to practically work on your goals whilst remaining focussed and authentic and maintaining a sense of inner peace and wellbeing.

This is a holistic approach to achieving goals and one which I feel if adopted, allows you to be much more resilient in the long run.

#17 Simon Michaels: Mindful Work | What can we learn in business as a result of the Coronavirus? | What exactly is meditation and mindfulness and why is it so important?

In this episode I speak to Simon Michaels, founder of Mindful Work. Simon works with businesses using mindfulness to help resolve contemporary workplace issues such as stress reduction, improve creativity and innovation and better team working.

Simon was led to meditation and mindfulness following a crisis point in his life. Deep reflection and questioning at this time led him to pursue another passion also, for good food and he ended up forming a social enterprise collaborating with seventeen other people.

Simon travelled all over the country and overseas advising on how to create sustainable food systems and help those on low incomes access good food. His interest in meditation ran alongside and fed into this work and remained a long life passion. Simons spiritual work is rooted in Buddhist teachings and in 2017 he was ordained in the lineage of Namgyal Rinpoche.

This conversation is one I have been wanting to have for a long time and it did not disappoint. If you enjoy pls subscribe, rate and review.

#16 Samantha Warren: Following your creative calling | Empowering local community using print and pattern

In this episode I speak with Samantha Warren. Sam is a Printed Textiles Designer and founder of accessories brand Samantha warren London. Sam’s vibrant prints inspired by nature have been stocked in Anthropologie, The Royal Academy of Arts, The British Museum and The Fashion Textile Museum in London.

In recent years Sam has also worked with the local community of Croydon. Using pattern to stop people from fly tipping and engaging the community in the creative process to celebrate their local area and promote a sense of belonging.

Being someone from an Asian background, Sam touches upon the nervousness of her parents when she chose a career in the arts, culturally seen as quite an unconventional and unsecure path to take. She also shares the will and passion required to stay in the game for the long haul.

I love Sam's transparency around her career as a designer. As someone who’s had amazing success, she’s so humble and grounded.

#14 Ariana Sefre: Rapitation | Mindfulness for the harder to reach young male population | Turning big bold ideas into reality

Ariana is an activist and founder of Rapitation. She has a firm belief that creativity and curiosity is the key to good mental health. Rapitation is a hip hop and spoken word meditation app and movement. It is on a mission to engage more young people in mindfulness practice, removing the ‘yogi’ principles to make meditation more accessible, interesting and engaging.
Ariana is also founder of sweat and sound, a live music wellness company providing a multi sensory experience for their guests. Imagine it, you rock up to your fitness class but instead of the sounds coming from regular speaker, it’s coming from a live orchestra. Instead of a standard fitness studio you are in an old gothic church with really high ceilings, amazing acoustics and decor.
I wish I could go into Ariana’s brain and see how it works because I find her creativity so extraordinary, her vision so dynamic and her passion is truly infectious. I think you really are in for a treat with this episode.

#13 Saima Majid | Morning motivation | Practical tools to help you set yourself up for a positive and productive day

Motivation is a key factor in determining success or failure but in order to achieve long term goals it is important to focus on the present. Something which helps me do this and that I adopted a few years ago was a morning routine. Practices that I do each morning to set me up for the day, before facing the world. My morning practices have changed my life in many ways and in this episode I will be sharing these practices with you.

#12 Anisha Parmar London | Jewellery brand inspired by multi-cultural London; a hub for diversity and cultural cross overs with true British culture | The highs and lows of being a designer

In this episode I chat with Anisha Parmar from Anisha Parmar London.  Anisha Parmar London is a luxury fashion, jewellery & accessories brand that is inspired by the melting pot of multi-cultural London which she describes as a hub for diversity and cultural cross overs with true British culture.

Anisha’s jewellery is for the bold, confident & badass woman. Her designs have been featured  in Vogue Italia, Vogue India, Elle France, Elle India, Jungle Magazine, the  V&A museum, and even a Snoop Dog music video.

Anisha transparently describes the highs and lows that go with having your own brand including the isolation and what happens when a collection is not successful. Something which we don’t hear often but most designers will face at some point in their journey. The minute I laid eyes on the brand, it was love at first sight and I instantly wanted to know more. I hope you enjoy the episode and if you could kindly subscribe, rate and review that would be awesome.

#6 Anna Brightman: Upcircle Beauty | Body scrub from recycled coffee grounds | Pitching in the Den | Rejection in business

#6 Anna Brightman: Upcircle Beauty | Body scrub from recycled coffee grounds | Pitching in the Den | Rejection in business

Launched in 2016 by siblings Anna and William Brightman, UpCircle are the pioneers of the circular skincare trend. All UpCircle products are natural, organic, vegan, cruelty-free, palm oil-free, sustainable, handmade in the UK and housed in 100% recyclable packaging. But their key point of difference from other beauty brands is that each of their products is made with a core repurposed ingredient. “Natural” is the new “normal” – UpCircle go a step further with their waste-fighting formulations.

Nature gives us lots of wonderful ingredients that make our skin healthier and more radiant – like used coffee grounds, chai spices and fruit stones. But they often end up going to landfill. Why should all that good stuff go to waste? It shouldn’t. That’s why UpCircle elevate leftover natural ingredients, bringing them back to life as beauty products your skin will love.

UpCircle have taken the beauty world by storm. Since their rebrand less than a year ago the sibling duo have launched their by-product beauty range with Boots, Sainsbury’s, Holland & Barrett, Ocado, Urban Outfitters, Beauty Bay, Whole Foods, As Nature Intended, House of Fraser, Feel Unique, Farmdrop, Revital and many more! They have just released a brand new range made from discarded fruit stones.

Dr. Tim Zijlstra is an accidental Librarian, with extensive experience in public, school and academic libraries, and an accidental Academic. He is also a proud Ally and Role Model for the Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing group.

#4 Tara Lee Oakley | Dance, body confidence and spirituality | Fear of female sexuality and sensuality | The forgotten 'older' woman

I speak to Tara Lee Oakley; Professional Dancer, Dance/Fitness Instructor and advocate of all things Wellbeing.

Tara's career in the dance/ fitness industry has spanned 19 years, way before the age of social media. I love her perspective on the power of taking time to learn and hone a skill in an age where this has been replaced with chasing quick fixes.

Having performed internationally and in London’s best know clubs and restaurants, Tara shares her thoughts on society’s fears around female sexuality and sensuality.

We also talk about the deep connection between dance and spirituality as practised in Sufism, founded by the great philosopher and poet Rumi.

#3 Elaine Denton | From poverty and drugs to a life filled with purpose, meaning and abundance | Confidence and what it truly looks like | The future of Health and Wellness in the digital world

From a career in Corporate to becoming a Coach, 42 Year old Elaine transformed her own life and is now on a mission to help people transform theirs.

With a challenging upbringing that almost lead her to a darker path, Elaine spent many years trying to better herself through her career but didn’t realise she was trying to fill the void of her inner self. The one that felt unworthy and unloved. It took her getting to burnout stage 18 years into her corporate career for her to do a complete 360- heading back to teaching classes, a new found love for teaching yoga and mindfulness and now transformational life coaching, taking her back to her ‘why’ that she had when she embarked on her career path 20 years ago ‘to help people be the best version of themselves’
