Sales Intersection: The Intersection of Money and Meaning

Sales Intersection: The Intersection of Money and Meaning

By Eric B Jones

‘Sales Intersection’, a podcast providing a medium where my guests and I can discuss where we derive meaning, fulfillment, and passion for sales.

I've been in sales close to 20 years. My experience has been it's a profession that attracts some of the world's most colorful personalities but ironically sales people are graded on a the most black and white binding method that exists.

You hit your quota, you're a good person. You don't, you're a bad person. My guests and I explore how to maximize the color and minimize the black and white.

Sales Intersection Season 3 Finale - Larry Long and Sales Enablement

Sales Intersection Season 3 Finale - Larry Long and Sales Enablement

What can I say about Larry Long Jr. I can picture him going through Navy Seals bootcamp and smiling the whole time.

Might get some extra pushups for talking.

It was an absolute pleasure having Larry on as my season finale guest. The guy just makes you want to climb mountains and go up to strangers to tell them how great life can be.

In this episode we address among other things if the negative association with sales is due to lack of resources and classes (only 4%) in college or lack of sales enablement especially in the startup world.   We also discuss what he's most proud of, cognitive behavioral therapy, and how many times he was sent to detention for talking.

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 9 | Advice from Reprise BDR of the Year | Jamie Neubeck

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 9 | Advice from Reprise BDR of the Year | Jamie Neubeck

I hadn't been this excited for an episode in the longest time.

Jamie just has a spirit and energy about her that for me was infectious.   We get into her personal life (what a story) and specific prospecting and lead generation tactics she used to become BDR of the year at Reprise.

Her trump over any setback or hurdle attitude mindset is inspiring. More inspiring is how transparent she is on social media and probably in person about telling the WHOLE story and how she got to be such a rock.   She's now BDR of the year at Reprise and just keeps shining.

Definitely tune into this one folks. Truly inspiring.

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 8 | Introverts in Sales | Ryland Ferguson

Ironically as an extrovert, I'm group leader and administrator of a 700 person group called "Introverts in Sales".

I co-host this virtual event with Ryland Ferguson where we touch on:

- What does it mean to be "introverted" in the world of business?

- Psychology of an introvert

- Embracing what being an introvert is accomplishing for you, and how can you put that into perspective when it comes to sales situations?

- How can you harness some of the best qualities of the introvert to be successful in sales?

- Rethinking the goal in sales - how is modern selling transforming in favor of the introvert?

- How can embracing modern sales approaches make selling easier and more rewarding for both buyers and sellers?

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 6 | Your 3 Sales Pipelines and Brands that don't Execute | Guest Lucas Root

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 6 | Your 3 Sales Pipelines and Brands that don't Execute | Guest Lucas Root

Best line of the show: "When you walk into a bookstore you'll see books written by me".

#sales #branding #socialselling #energy Legendary line. Lucas Root, who works with some of the biggest companies in the world that are execution challenged, joins me on Sales Intersection Season 3 Episode 6 discussing sales pipelines for prospecting and how he helps some of the biggest companies in the world that are execution challenged.

It's a line that made me laugh but that's not reflective of Lucas as he's one of the most humble, deferential, and probably has the most soothing voice I've had on the show. On a serious note I think this speaks to self-awareness and the ability to be present in selling and a more than sufficient calm in his voice to evoke trust. He also has an energy that makes it easy to share your story.

Lucas touches on the importance of not putting all your pipeline eggs in one basket (timely example - if you were counting on conferences to achieve quota pre-COVID) and instead to split them up into social selling, being digitally savvy and going about your branding in a way that speaks to your true passion and genuine self.

Full watch and listen versions in comments.

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 5 | The Intersection of Mental Health and the Sales Revolution | Guest Amy Hrehovcik

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 5 | The Intersection of Mental Health and the Sales Revolution | Guest Amy Hrehovcik

Sales Intersection - where you can always count on mediocre production value but legendary fire with guests and content. Season 3 Episode 5 with Amy Hrehovcik.

I almost didn't want Amy on the show because I didn't know how I'd get through the episode successfully avoiding the daunting task of trying to pronounce her last name, which I never actually do.

Hot topics discussed here folks as we go over mental health in sales in addition to what I believe to be a revolution happening in sales. Amy has some fascinating insights into this as well. This and much much more in this episode of Sales Intersection - The Intersection of Money and Meaning. Amy is a character for the books.

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 4 | The Intersection of Positivity and Sales for Success | Guest James Buckley

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 4 | The Intersection of Positivity and Sales for Success | Guest James Buckley

James 'the bucking bronco, bucket full of big bite sales insights' Buckley on this episode of Sales Intersection.

You have to be on adderall to be on James' energy level but it's such a joy to be around that kind of positivity.

James talks about some ups and downs in life even though he once thought he'd be a great cop. He brings the Sales Intersection full circle by saying all he's been through lended itself nicely to his genuine and transparent self/brand.

He's proof that channeling all that is within yourself and being self aware enough to know what that is gravitates towards his prospects. As he says if you're still chasing chasing chasing after prospects in 2022, you're behind the game.

Check out this episode where James talks about being on a cross country roadtrip with a stranger telling his story, the research necessary for cold prospecting, and the changes he was determined to make once finding out he had type 2 diabetes. An EPIC episode! TONS of laughs folks.

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 2 | Ft. @Mark Hunter | High profits and a Mind for Sales

Sales Intersection Season 3 | Episode 2 | Ft. @Mark Hunter | High profits and a Mind for Sales

After decades of experience in the sales industry working with hundreds of talented sales leaders and teams, Mark Hunter decided to share his insights in the bestselling books, A Mind for Sales, High-Profit Prospecting, and High-Profit Selling.

Sales Intersection's season 3 episode 2 features Mark Hunter. Some interesting tidbits about Mark and this episode:

* Mark's most valuable asset is not his client, it's his time

* Mark wanted to be a disc jockey but because of the amount of traffic tickets he had and the inability to pay them + insurance he had to go into sales

* Mark picks personality over brilliance every time when forecasting a sales rep's success

* Mark doesn't care if you're 10 years old and want to open a kool-aid stand or 81 and want to sell AARP. He prefers working with clients that have a passion for sales.

Credibility and virtual lead generation in a virtual business world

Credibility and virtual lead generation in a virtual business world

Eric Brakebill Jones (Named a pioneer in virtual sales, marketing, and lead generation by Yahoo and ranked top 20 podcasts in the nation by Forbes) and Mitchell Levy, 2x TEDx speaker and best selling author of over 20 books, join me on this virtual lead generation tool focused meeting.

We’re going to be discussing the difference in today’s selling environment everybody seems to acknowledge, but for some reason, for the most part, isn’t doing anything to adapt effectively.   Based on Hubspot statistics despite sales teams sending about 50% more emails during COVID, response rates continue to decline. If it’s not working, don’t do more of it, can we agree?

Join us for a discussion on what adapting means to the virtual selling era. This includes adapting with your company and personal branding, your lead generation tools, out of the box thinking, a completely different way of going about social selling and a whole lot more.

The good news is that right here you can get a taste of the other side, Selling WITHOUT Sleaze.  Sarah Jolley Jarvis

A sales podcast legend producing daily podcasts to fuel your daily sales transformation. What a blast I had hosting Collin Mitchell Salescast on Sales Intersection.

Some fascinating stories of Collin's very atypical upbringing and how it influenced his decision to be in sales and what drives him to impact the evolution of sales in a positive direction daily.

Automation Can Never Replace Humans, Relevant prospecting, phone sales and video

About Nigel, phone sales, relevant prospecting, advising sales management:  A successful executive (and then entrepreneur) for the past 15 years that helped build two sales teams that produced $50M+ in annual revenue. A third sales team started at very little revenue and grew to nearly $10M annually in less than three years.  I’ve partnered with equity firms like Frist Cressey Ventures, Heritage Group Partners, Tao Capital, New State Capital, and Shore Capital.  Then, in 2018, I walked away.

So, I left a high-paying executive job at a hyper-growth startup in Nashville to work for myself...on a farm in Kentucky.  I completely redesigned my life around family, time and optionality.  My wife, two kids and I live a slower pace of life and I spend most Fridays outside. Now I coach, consult and advise sales leaders.  In 2019 I published my book, Revenue Harvest: A Sales Leaders Almanac For Planning The Perfect Year.  Now, I coach entrepreneurs and sales leaders in my 1:1 coaching program.  I serve on the board of advisors for five healthcare companies: Relode, AffirmHealth, CaredFor, Darvis and Move U.  I also write a column for Entrepreneur Magazine.

Season 2 - Episode 7 Rahul Wadhaw, the biggest podcast host in India

Season 2 - Episode 7 Rahul Wadhaw, the biggest podcast host in India

Excited to finally move on to an editing level where it doesn't look like an 11 year old produced the podcast video or audio episode.

This episode of 'The Sales Intersection - The Intersection of Money and Meaning' features guest Rahul Wadhwa. Head of Global Sales Development at Salesken and Co-Founder and Host of Sales Spin, the first podcast in Indian history to lock down a sponsor within the first 6 months of podcasting. In fact the only B2B podcast to get a sponsor in India. A legend to be if you ask me.

A self-described boring ambivert, expert on sales development who discloses some of his secret sauce for managing SDRs, and besides a few other themes the reasons he believes he attributes to his hyper-growth, hockey stick level of growth.

Please watch and provide feedback! If you google 'Sales Intersection' you'll get options for my website, all audio platforms, etc. to select from if video isn't your jam.

Highlights of Paul Garrido Episode: 1. Prospecting

Paul tells us about modern day sales prospecting, techniques, tips, and how the archaic KPI dashboard has changed in today's world.

For instance is it worth losing the relationship through 'social selling' by trying to connect to someone and immediately asking for a meeting after writing out bullet points of your offering's features? The game has evolved and Paul gets into this.

Sales Intersection Season 2 Episode 3 with Brian Bar: Victory Lap's sales training bootcamp landing you a tech sales job in just 8 weeks.

Sales Intersection Season 2 Episode 3 with Brian Bar: Victory Lap's sales training bootcamp landing you a tech sales job in just 8 weeks.

Our guest is Victory Lap's CEO, Brian Bar, in Sales Intersection's season 2 episode 3 podcast. After an 8 week sales training bootcamp Victory Lap grads are hired by the most prestigious and fastest growing companies across the nation.

Brian Bar first crafted the idea for Victory Lap in 2010, in-between jobs and career paths, backpacking Europe. He was perplexed as to why so many individuals struggled to achieve career success and felt strongly the solution had to be tied to the closer merger of education and employment.

While building, growing and leading sales teams,  Brian saw first-hand how people from all different backgrounds –  extroverts, introverts, people with an Ivy League degree, people with no degree – all have an equal chance at success. Inspired, he set out to build the world’s leading Sales Education company to provide aspiring professionals with world class education and career opportunities, as well as give companies access to the most prepared and in-demand sales talent pool on the market.

To start your first company a few months before the birth of your first child takes a mission that is worth it. Three years and three kids later, the story is just getting started.

Sales Intersection: Season 2 Episode 1 with Alex Rivera, Selling Dreams not Products

Sales Intersection: Season 2 Episode 1 with Alex Rivera, Selling Dreams not Products

This one really hit my soul.

I went to junior high and high school with Alex. I've gotten to know him over 3 hours of calls to discuss this podcast. It's been eye opening.

This one with Alex Rivera representing Castroville, and a whole lot more is the best way I can think of to start season 2, episode 1. Check it out and be ready for a story you hear in a blue moon. Alex doesn't sell products he sells dreams. He also came from a family where his mom had to work picking in the strawberry fields till 5 and then go to her custodian job.

He still made it out to be a dream seller resulting in kids like Sahid Valenzuela getting a full ride to Cal State Fullerton and drafted by the Oakland A's. Lot's more to tell this Friday on Stream Yard. If you give this podcast 5 minutes you'll at least listen to 20.

Sales Intersection Episode 8 with Steve Richard

Steve Richard on the show today for episode 8! Thrilled to have him.

Steve's mission in life and life's work is to help sales professionals become wildly successful. I believe that the quality of sales conversations matters, yet the profession of sales largely misses the mark on teaching sales reps how to have great conversations. After 10 years as a sales trainer I learned that the only way to achieve my mission was through the use of technology to help more sales professionals worldwide.  JOIN THE CALL CAMP MOVEMENT: https://www.execvision.io/call-camp/ GRAB A CALL WITH ME: www.meetme.so/steverichard Can you imagine a sports coach who doesn't use game tape? Seems absurd. Yet it happens every day in sales organizations around the world. Many tools exist to capture sales practice, and practice is great. Which would you rather have: practice tape or game tape? Sales Intersection Episode 7 with Daxy Perez

Sales Intersection Episode 7 with Daxy Perez

Daxy Perez, my 7th guest of Sales Intersection sits down with me with a focus on his success in the podcasting space. After years of nomad freelancing he ventured into starting his own podcast agency and it was a massive success. In under 12 months, he grew to managing over 25 podcasts for some of the biggest names in the internet marketing and entrepreneur space online.

In this episode Daxy speaks to the 5 love languages and which two are his and how this relates to optimizing sales performance. He also gets into the importance of leveraging influencers in his industry, knowing that community, and offering solutions to "follow up problems". This is where he's a "ninja", not by addressing the primary problem.

Extremely interesting and if you want to better understand any of this check out this episode.   I've chopped it down by half to be more of a highlight reel. I'll be doing this going forward. Enjoy!

Sales Intersection Episode 6 with Kasey Jones: Voted one of the 35 most influential women in the USA

Sales Intersection Episode 6 with Kasey Jones: Voted one of the 35 most influential women in the USA

I was fortunate enough to have Kasey Jones as a guest on Sales Intersection, coming off her nod for 35 most influential women by @SalesHacker. (Go big right Dale Dupree)

If you have those types of people you work with that can text you and make your world because you feel incredibly lucky they want you just as bad in their world after work hours that you do. That's what Kasey brings.

Kasey admits she might not be the best hiring manager, or have an arsenal full of 'strong on paper' weapons. But its glaringly apparent she values people. People love her and her unstinting heart.

Don' get me wrong, she's a visionary, a mentor who's words can save you months to years, but this is a fantastic example of how an extra ping pong table or love seat just will never measure-up to her caliber of a lion's heart. Will be sharing more over the coming weeks before announcing my next guest.

Dale Dupree - The William Wallace of Sales Training

Dale Dupree - The William Wallace of Sales Training

The Dale Dupree story apart from sales training:

Drugs. Traveling the world in a big rock band. Depression. Suicide attempts. Falling down chimneys. The goal of making this world better and the warriors his team coaches.

All discussed on episode 5 with Dale Dupree. Braveheart used to be my favorite movie for years and years. Imagining being the unmerciful William Wallace.   This is episode 5 with my guest, the William Wallace of sales training, founder of the Sales Rebellion, the hero to the evolution of sales training, Dale Dupree.

This is a man that can simply post on LinkedIn “Just came back from the bathroom” and get 313 likes and 42 comments within an hour. I researched Dale as if I had that final exam the next day that would decide my future. I did this because he’s so cognizant of the nuances separating people, sales reps or leaders, true empathy vs empty suits (that’s for you Larry Levine), etc.

I think of Dale as heroic. He’s provided me more motivation, insights, and vision for my future trajectory than almost any other sales training mentor I’ve ever met. You’re going to love this one!

Sales Intersection Episode 4 with Morgan Ingram

Sales Intersection Episode 4 with Morgan Ingram

This episode's guest had me excited to wake up in the morning because I'd be having a conversation with Morgan Ingram. A man I highly respect partly because he shows his world and network so much respect. Helping prospectors and sales leaders alike see through the noise and keep the eye on the ball. He also has a way about him that makes sales look wildly fun. He's Host of #TheSDRChronicles and 2x LinkedIn Top Sales Voice. A real treat to have him on Sales Intersection. Learned a lot from Morgan's insights and even more from his professionalism.

Sales Intersection Episode 3 with Principal Analyst of Forrester - Jay McBain

Sales Intersection Episode 3 with Principal Analyst of Forrester - Jay McBain

Episode 3 with Jay McBain: Jay McBain, Principal Analyst at Forrester joins me to discuss selling in the WFH, COVID, chaotic times that are reality here in the US today. He gets into the trifurcated channel model, how to sell when buyers are increasingly going about the evaluation and purchasing journey without engaging the supplier’s sales team, and what he’d be doing if not an analyst at Forrester.

Sales Intersection Episode 1 with SVP of Sales at ActiveCampaign - Adam Johnson

Sales Intersection Episode 1 with SVP of Sales at ActiveCampaign - Adam Johnson

I make him feel uncomfortable saying this but Adam Johnson, my longtime friend, is one of the best salesmen and human beings with whom I’ve had the privilege to experience a slice of life. Winner o the 2019 Stevie Award for National Sales Executive of the Year, an intellectual poking at the possibility of romanticizing the craft of sales, Adam was an extremely deliberate pick for being the first guest to ever be on ‘Sales Intersection’.
