Original vs. Remake: The Thing (1982)
Original vs. Remake: The Thing (1982)
The Thing (1982) movie review from the Salty Nerds have them going gay over Kurt Russell - and there's no coming back from that!   A remake of the 1951 original The Thing From Another World, this interpretation from John Carpenter is far more faithful to the original source material - the short story from John W. Campbell Jr. called "Who Goes There?"  At a remote Antarctic research station, the group stationed there runs into a shape-shifting alien menace.  As paranoia spreads throughout the team, they quickly discover that their teammates are just as dangerous as this Thing from another world!  Who's human?  Who's The Thing?  Who will survive?   Widely praised as John Carpenter's masterpiece of horror cinema, The Thing flopped at the box office when it was initially released, but has gone on to become a classic film praised by critics and fans alike.  What is your The Thing movie review?  Did you love it?  Hate it?  Do you speak smergdorf?  Let us know on our Discord server here:  http://www.saltynerddiscord.com  And if you like our content and want to help support the show, please sign up for our members area to get exclusive content here:  ▷ SUPPORT THE SHOW: http://www.saltynerdclub.com/   By becoming a Patron of the Salty Nerd Podcast you help us to create great content AND get awesome perks! Thanksgiving Special: Poultrygeist, Night Of The Chicken Dead
Thanksgiving Special: Poultrygeist, Night Of The Chicken Dead
Happy Thanksgiving 2022 everyone!  In this Thanksgiving special episode, the nerds dive into Poultrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead, and instantly regret it.   When an ancient Indian burial ground is bulldozed in order to open a fried chicken fast food chain, the spirits get angry and possess the chickens used to make the meals at the restaurant, possessing those who eat the disgusting meals.  Oh, and the movie is a musical as well, so there are plenty of terrible musical numbers as well as tasteless, offensive jokes and lots of gross bodily fluids.  This movie has the distinction of being one of THE WORST movies the Nerds have ever been subjected to.  So of course it stands to reason they'd want to tell you all about it!  Be thankful we watched this so you don't have to!   What is your Poultrygeist Night Of The Chicken Dead movie review?  Did you like it?  Hate it?  Were you traumatized by it?  Were you able to watch it without throwing up?  Let us know on our Discord server:  http://www.saltynerddiscord.com   And if you like our content and want to help support us, consider joining our members area here:  ▷ SUPPORT THE SHOW: http://www.saltynerdclub.com/  By becoming a Patron of the Salty Nerd Podcast you help us to create great content AND get awesome perks! Original vs. Remake: The Thing From Another World (1951)
Original vs. Remake: The Thing From Another World (1951)
The Thing From Another World movie review from the Salty Nerds has them looking at the precursor to John Carpenter's classic film, The Thing.  How's it hold up?   Based on the short story "Who Goes There?" from John W. Campbell Jr., The Thing From Another World deviates widely from the original source material and focuses on a group of scientists and American Air Force pilots who fend off a bloodthristy monster carrot at a remote arctic outpost.  (Not joking.)   Stealth directed by the legendary filmmaker Howard Hawks, this movie inspired a while generation of filmmakers, such as Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese, and John Carpenter himself!  What is your The Thing From Another World review?  Did you love it?  Hate it?  Let us know in our Discord server here:  http://www.saltynerddiscord.com And if you like our content and want to help support us, consider joining our members area here:  ▷ SUPPORT THE SHOW: http://www.saltynerdclub.com/   By becoming a Patron of the Salty Nerd Podcast you help us to create great content AND get awesome perks! Retro We Watch: The Vampire Lovers (1970)
Retro We Watch: The Vampire Lovers (1970)
The Vampire Lovers movie review from the Salty Nerds has them stunned that a horror exploitation film from the 1970s could be so much fun.   Based on a novella that pre-dates Dracula, The Vampire Lovers is the first instance of lesbian vampires on screen (or in literature).  Sired by a mysterious vampire, Marcilla goes from one Noble's house to another, systematically seducing their young daughters while feeding off them and eventually killing them.  At least until she gets to the Morton household, where the butler Renton catches onto her scheme and moves to protect the young mistress long enough for Peter Cushing's General von Spielsdorf to lead his crew of vampire hunters to take Marcilla and her LGBTQ tendencies out!   What is your The Vampire Lovers review?  Did you like it?  Hate it?  Did it make you want to jerk it?  Let us know in our Discord server here:  http://www.saltynerddiscord.com   And if you like our content and want to help support the show, get uncensored exclusive episodes in our members area by signing up here:  ▷ SUPPORT THE SHOW: http://www.saltynerdclub.com/   By becoming a Patron of the Salty Nerd Podcast you help us to create great content AND get awesome perks! Retro We Watch: The Valley Of Gwangi (1969)
Retro We Watch: The Valley Of Gwangi (1969)
The Valley of Gwangi movie review from the Salty Nerds has them tearing into Alex's pick for the retro re-watch of November 2022.  The Valley of Gwangi 1969 is basically a re-hash of King Kong, but with dinosaurs and cowboys.   Spearheaded by the legendary special effects master Ray Harryhausen as a tribute to his former mentor Willis O'Brien, this was the last movie Harryhausen ever animated dinosaurs for due to the huge failure of the movie at the box office and the disrespect Warner Brothers showed for the film.  The movie is about a cowboy named Tuck Kirby who seeks fame and fortune by capturing a dinosaur that lives in the Forbidden Valley and featuring it in a Mexican circus.  However, things go bad when the dinosaur, called Gwangi, gets loose and starts a deadly rampage through town.   What is your The Valley of Gwangi review?  Did you like it?  Hate it?  Should we ever allow Alex to pick movies ever again?  Let us know in our Discord server!  Sign up for free here:  http://www.saltynerddiscord.com And if you like our comments and want to support the show, consider joining our members area here:  ▷ SUPPORT THE SHOW: http://www.saltynerdclub.com/   By becoming a Patron of the Salty Nerd Podcast you help us to create great content AND get awesome perks! Retro We Watch: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Retro We Watch: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1956 movie review from the Salty Nerds has them diving deep into this B-movie that became a sci-fi classic, which has been re-made and re-imagined multiple times!   Based on the Collier's magazine serial by author Jack Finney, this movie is made by Dirty Harry director Don Siegel and stars Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter.  Made for an extremely low budget and shot on an accelerated schedule, this classic science fiction film shouldn't be as good as it is.  In fact, it's entire special effects budget was just $30,000.   Invasion of the Body Snatchers is about spores from outer space that grow pods which replicate the bodies of people nearby.  Copying them while they sleep, the pods spawn perfect replicas that actually take over the original.  But there's a problem - the copies lack the emotion of their originals, and their hive-mind-like goal of replacing everyone on Earth makes them an immanent threat.  Can Dr. Miles Bennell warn the authorities before he gets replaced?   What is your Invasion of the Body Snatchers review?  Did you love it?  Hate it?  Do you think YOU'RE NEXT?  Let us know on our Discord server!  Join for free here:  http://www.saltynerddiscord.com ▷ SUPPORT THE SHOW: http://www.saltynerdclub.com/   By becoming a Patron of the Salty Nerd Podcast you help us to create great content AND get awesome perks!
