Patriarchy & Your Vagina with Sanaa Green

Patriarchy & Your Vagina with Sanaa Green

This Podcast Serves Divine Feminine Soulfood!

On This Episode:

How priestess spirituality informs patriarchy

Last month I created a short video sharing my thoughts on the Supreme Court reversal of the Roe Vs. Wade law. All of a sudden, I saw the correlation between the Yoni and the power that feeds the patriarchy.  Today I want to explain the correlations. In the video, I was trying to be brief so the details were left out.

I have read several books that talked about the fall of female led spiritual communities, but did not make the connection until I intuitively recalled the sacred connections available through my vagina.

While reading When God Was a Woman by Merlin Stone, I couldn’t completely relate the magnitude of what happened to women in the past because I was still wedded to Christian thought. I didn’t see myself practicing some “pagan religion”. Such was my indoctrination into the colonial system in which I was acculturated.

The reality is, the Bible is a recount of the desecration of female led religions. Why is this important? According to Mama Zogbe in her book Mami Wata: Africa's Ancient God/dess Unveiled Vol. I Aryans and priests of Amon wanted a share of the lucrative trade routes established under the matriarchal temples in Egypt, Ethiopia and Libya. After the invasion of Amon, more invasions came by the Assyrians, then the Greeks, later the Persians, Turks and Romans. The invasion included raping the priestesses.

When women are defiled, it impacts not only women, but the community. That’s why this tactic was used and continues to be used in modern warfare.

What would later become the patriarchy, learned that certain priestess, used intimate sacred practices for multiple reasons, not just birth. Marguite Mary Rigoglioso, PH.D in her book; The Mystery Tradition of Miraculous Conception: Mary and the Lineage of Virgin Births, she posits that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a priestess from a long line of priestesses who practiced virgin births. Eventually, priests infused themselves into these sacred practices taking control of not only the trade routes, but women’s ability to choose to give birth or not. It became men who lead the priestesses and the men wanted to control the businesses and the transfer of property. In ancient times, property was passed from mother to child. Men of this time wanted to change that.

Later women were devoid of knowledge of the powerful priestesses they once were and became servants to the colonial patriarchal system. Women were told that the miraculous event of giving birth was meant as a painful punishment. Or that the only functions of a vagina are to have children or to have sex.  Even if you don’t have sex with men, what we have come to believe is that what we can experience through our vaginas has been limited to purposes that serve the patriarchy.  Either way, we have been taught to see our vagina for a very narrowly focused purpose, centered on the desires of the patriarchy.

Now the country is in the process of a spiritual awakening and women and others who have been oppressed under this system are waking up to our true divine nature. This is one of the key reasons a woman’s right to chose has been called into question.

Whether you are Pro-Life or Pro-Choice, your right to control your body has been limited by this Supreme Court decision.

Hoodoo with Yvette The MotownWitch

Hoodoo with Yvette The MotownWitch

This Podcast Serves Divine Feminine Soulfood!

In this episode of Center Her Power, we look at witchcraft from a Black woman's perspective.  There are many ways for women to connect to their spiritual selves thereby marrying body and spirit so that they live In The Center Of Her Power.  For some Black women, working with herbs and intention (witchcraft) was a way of life passed down from grandmothers.  Witchcraft has been depicted most prominently based on European practices.  For Black women who are seeking to find ways to live In The Center of Their Power, Vodoun is one path to follow.  Whether Celtic or African, witches were feared and even killed for their mystical wisdom that was often used for healing the community.  It is a changing of perception that encourages Yvette Wyatt to walk boldly as, The MotownWitch.

Vodoun is a religion practiced by the Aja, Ewe, and Fon peoples of Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Nigeria.  It was brought to the America by Africans who were enslaved.  It is practiced in Louisiana in the US and other areas of the Black Diaspora where West Africans found themselves including Haiti.

About Our Guest

Yvette (The MotownWitch) is a lifelong Witch and Conjure Worker. She began seeing Spirits at an early age and grew up watching her grandmother and great-greatmother work various roots and herbs in Talladega, Alabama.  She is also baptized in Haitian Vodoun and is an Ifa devotee. Yvette owns a store in Detroit: The MotownWitch, 16844 Schaefer Hwy., Detroit, MI 48235 She also is the creator of The Detroit Hoodoo Festival (an annual event) The Detroit Witches Ball (an annual event) and The Real Black Witches of Detroit (a monthly woman's fellowship meeting).

Learning their Names: Part 2 Featuring Oya Amakisi

Learning their Names: Part 2 Featuring Oya Amakisi

Season 1.5!  LOL!  I thought I was finished with season 1; however, this episode needs to be in season one!  Listen to the introduction for the explanation.

Part II - Learning Their Names

About The Host

Sanaa Green is a spiritual teacher who helps women see their sacred essence. She reflects and nurtures the divine potential of others. Her purpose is to support the reestablishment the Divine Feminine into our collective consciousness and to show the Divine as an accessible state of being in everyday life.

Genealogical research is not connected to any spiritual practice that I know of.  Although it can be a Spirit-filled work.  You don't have to be interested in West African spiritual practice in order to learn from this episode!

ON THIS EPISODE

  • Rituals to heal ancestral trauma
  • Usefulness of migration maps
  • How to get beyond the 1870 census
  • Check The spelling of names

Earlier this month on Instagram and Facebook, I sent a message to a friend whose mother passed. I mentioned Dia de Los Muertos as a way to offer comfort to her. The post said: "your mother left the world but not you." The Day of the Dead originated with the Aztec culture, and is now a Mexican tradition. Each year at the beginning of November, the living celebrate loved ones who have passed on. This day is becoming more mainstream with local municipalities sponsoring public events. It is a tradition of the Americas that predates US culture.

Africans also have traditions to honor those who have passed into another realm of existence. While I am not initiated into Ifa, the Yoruba spiritual practice that honors ancestors, I have done some research. I am really interested in the role it is playing in the ascension of people on this planet right now. It is a spiritual presence among many African Americans, and therefore it is part of our collective culture.

My guest on this episode and the next episode which is a continuation, is Oya Amakisi.

BIO OF OYA AMAKISI

As an intuitive creative thinker, Pan Afrikan Nationalist, activist, and passionate defender of human rights; Oya Amakisi’s work has spanned diverse platforms ranging from reparations, food/environmental justice, uplifting girl’s and women’s rights, youth development, advocating for political prisoners/prisoners of war to challenging police/extrajudicial murder.  She has used art and activism as a tool to heal, educate and empower by collaboratively working with the community to find solutions on a local, national, and international level for over thirty years.  Amakisi is the founder and Executive Director of the Detroit Women of Color International Film Festival.

Oya and I are both working under a grant with the Wisdom Institute called Passing the Torch Preserving the Flame. Which speaks to our shared commitment to remember our ancestors and be of service in the community. She has been collecting data on her family since she was 13 years old!

Tell Your Story! Make Money Creatively With Sarah Mac.

This is the last episode for season one of the podcast!  My spirit guides are asking me to go within and I feel like a retreat!  I hope to see you next season!

Contact Sanaa : (after January 20, 2022) at Sanaa@centerherpower.com or @centerherpowerpodcast.

My guest on this episode is Sarah Mac.  She is a whirlwind of energy who can show creatives and coaches how to tell their own story and build successful businesses.

Here is how she describes her work:

My journey as a writer and mindset coach has been one of fully accepting who I am and sharing that with more consistency, skill and power. What does that even mean? It means: sharing my life stories and showing up publicly (no matter how much I was pooping my pants about it!) has enabled me to double my income 3 years in a row, hitting 6-figures through 100% organic social media marketing – first with my copywriting agency, Juicy Copy, and then through my coaching business, With Sarah Mac.

When I started my online business adventure as a writer, in the foothills of the Himalayas in India in 2015, I had no idea it would lead me here…!

I went from $15 per hour gigs, and teaching myself copywriting, to supporting thousands of digital entrepreneurs to sell offers in their dream businesses, including working with 6- and 7-figure entrepreneurs and best-selling authors.

I ditched an 8-year career working in film crews (followed by a massive burnout, 5 years of chronic fatigue and depression!) and booked a one-way flight to Bali to help my friends with their online business. After that fell apart – and I found myself broke, very ill and unemployed – it took me 3 months to replace my income as a freelance writer taking any job I could get (in between taking a LOT of naps!)

I wanted the freedom to set my own schedule, restore my health, travel where I wanted and contribute to projects I felt were really important. I was done with burnout, being creatively unfulfilled and being treated like a cute, dumb little girl. So I decided to focus on helping women entrepreneurs to make more money by sharing their stories through powerful content.

I combined my passion for money mindset & energy management with the messaging and content strategy work I was doing with my clients and I unlocked some real MAGIC!

I hit 6-figures in my business having SO much fun… with travel to 15 countries in 5 years, (including Hawaii, Argentina, Portugal, Mexico and Guatemala) I created more freedom for song writing, performing and music video projects… and had the freedom & flexibility to spend more time with my fiancé while he was going through medical school in the US, with trips home to visit family in England whenever I wanted.

I’m SO grateful for the life that unfolded for me as a result of learning the skill of copywriting and being able to help wonderful people earn more money doing what they love through powerful marketing! And for the mindset tools that enabled me to move past my blocks, resistance, fears and self-doubts and make it happen!

About Liberation

We are deeply connected to all of Life. Our liberation from oppressive systems of power includes our reclamation of the power in traditional ways of being—ways that preserve life and celebrate joy, intuition, pleasure, interconnectedness, and difference. Through somatic awareness and mindful relationships to Earth we can cultivate tools for sustainable wellbeing. The body is a system within our ecosystem, connected and complete. Wellness includes practices to connect our minds, bodies, spirits, and land. Our ancestral memory holds tools for us to cultivate greater balance in our relationships to ourselves and our communities of human and other-than-human life.

Kiyaa Lawrence Faluade (Iya Ifafunmilola) is the General Manager of Yogaskills Atlanta.  She was initiated to Ifa in 2018 and her life has changed dramatically every since.  She met and married her husband, became the Iya, mother of an Ifa temple and began to understand why she was given such unique names.  She hated her names as a child and now she has evolved to living into the meanings of all of her names.

Iya Ifafunmilola Faluade talks candidly about this spirit-filled life path that has transported her to the realization of African roots, literally.  She knows who she is not through saliva spit into a DNA test tube, but through divination and her connection to Ifa.

About Her Business

YogaSkills is a method  of yoga practice created by Yirser Ra Hotep (Elvrid Lawrence) that emphasizes creating healthful and healing conditions in our body, mind and bio-electric energy systems as opposed to extreme gymnastic and contortionist postures that often cause injury, and result in useless competitive mindsets that plague the commercial Yoga industry today.

The YogaSkills Method is based on Kemetic Yoga™, the modern version of an ancient system originating from Kemet - the original name of the land now called Egypt. Kemetic Yoga  was developed from primary research conducted by Dr. Asar Hapi and Yirser Ra Hotep (Elvrid Lawrence) of Chicago during the 1970s.

The YogaSkills Method is a healing and regenerative yoga system that is characterized by a series of geometrically progressive postures that creates alignment of the spinal column and corrects defects in the skeletal-muscular system in order to relieve stress, increase blood circulation, nutrients and oxygen supply to vital body systems. It also allows cerebrospinal fluid to flow more efficiently and abundantly throughout the entire body and enhances our internal life force energy. Through utilizing YogaSkills, practitioners develop specialized yoga skills that can be applied in many lifetime events.

Shallow Waters A Novel By Anita Kopacz

Shallow Waters A Novel By Anita Kopacz

When I spoke to @anitakopacz about her new novel, I had only read a few pages, but I knew Shallow Waters would be a book I would love.

This book reminds me of books by two of my favorite authors, Tananrive Due and Octavia Butler. It is very similar to Children of Blood and Bone by Nigerian author Tomi Adeyemi. I love how modern day myths are being written about African characters.

The Creator, expressing as our African ancestors, are speaking in multiple ways. Our collective consciousness is seeing ourselves as powerful and supported by the mysticism that is the nature of this Universe. We have been taught to ignore it. We have done so at our peril.

Shallow Waters, gives us a myth to help us conceive of ourselves differently. Kopacz is Spiritual Psychologist as well as an Artist and healer. Our conversation was so rich that I invited her to come back on the show to discuss the healing work she is doing at her upcoming retreat.

Anita talks about the ritual she used to petition Yemaya and how the energy of the ocean responded and much more!

Accolades for Shallow Waters, A Novel

Spellbinding...A captivating debut.” —Harper’s Bazaar

In this stirring and lyrical debut novel—perfect for fans of The Water Dancer and the Legacy of Orïsha series—the Yoruba deity of the sea, Yemaya, is brought to vivid life as she discovers the power of Black resilience, love, and feminine strength in antebellum America.

Shallow Waters imagines Yemaya, an Orïsha—a deity in the religion of Africa’s Yoruba people—cast into mid-1800s America. We meet Yemaya as a young woman, still in the care of her mother and not yet fully aware of the spectacular power she possesses to protect herself and those she holds dear.

The journey laid out in Shallow Waters sees Yemaya confront the greatest evils of this era; transcend time and place in search of Obatala, a man who sacrifices his own freedom for the chance at hers; and grow into the powerful woman she was destined to become. We travel alongside Yemaya from her native Africa and on to the “New World,” with vivid pictures of life for those left on the outskirts of power in the nascent Americas.

Yemaya realizes the fighter within, travels the Underground Railroad in search of the mysterious stranger Obatala, and crosses paths with icons of our history on the road to freedom. Shallow Waters is a nourishing work of ritual storytelling from promising debut author Anita Kopacz.

Anita Kopacz is an award-winning writer and spiritual advisor. She is the former Editor-in-Chief of Heart & Soul Magazine and Managing Editor of BeautyCents Magazine. When she is not writing, you can find her on the dance floor or traveling the world with her children. Anita lives in New York City with her family.

The Storyteller's Goddess - Mawu Read by Sanaa Green

The Storyteller's Goddess - Mawu Read by Sanaa Green

This is a story for your listening!

I (Sanaa Green)  am still gathering historical data about Mawu.  This story is shared here as a thought starter and as entertainment. It is in no way meant to be the authoritative account of this Goddess or the religious beliefs that are tied to her.

As a child, I loved to be read to!  As an adult, I still love to listen to a good story!  That's what this is, a good story with lessons that can be applied today.  Lessons on; humility, kindness, interconnectedness to others and the earth, using time and resources wisely and more.

The Divine Feminine has many faces and has been depicted in a variety of ways depending on the culture.  This new series is simply offering accounts of views of the Divine Feminine from various cultural angles.

This story was read from the book: Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood by Merlin Stone

Having A Healthy Menopause with Jennifer Gale

Having A Healthy Menopause with Jennifer Gale

Menopause does not need to be about struggle!  Learn how to get ahead of menopause symptoms with useful information from Jennifer Gale.

I didn't realize how much I allowed struggle to control my life!  Experiencing pleasure during menopause is an act of self liberation!

Here are 2 books that I found useful: "The Essential Oils Menopause Solution" by Dr. Mariza Snyder and "What's Your Menopause Type " by Joseph Collins.

Jennifer Gale, The Urban Naturopath

The Urban Naturopath is found in both the urban and rural setting, and freely moves between worlds. We gather the best of both realms and hopefully inspire all to move to a higher place. The Urban Naturopath can navigate easily on a farm with the traditional farmer, help build an urban garden on a rooftop in the big city, or walk a neighbor through the grocery store to pick out what will be best for them.

Naturopathic training is rigorous – 4-6 years of academic work – intertwined with a mix of hands-on application work, research, presentation, and study.

Examples of the modalities Naturopaths use are:

Herbalism, Aromatherapy and Essential oil work, Cranio-sacral therapy, Nutritional counseling, Homeopathy, Energy work, Hydrotherapy, Music/Color/Art therapy, And so many more!

A hallmark of naturopathic work is teaching classes and doing community outreach. Make sure to check out my website and follow me here for all the latest class information.

My Father's Lessons

My Father's Lessons

The Summer Solstice brings forth the brightness of the sun and the force of the Divine Masculine.  This is a time when the masculine energy of the Sun and feminine energy of Cancer work together for our good.  I have been thinking about my father all week.  This morning he woke me at 2:30am to share revelations that have been percolating.  My father and bonus father reflected the Divine Masculine in my life.  I am more aware of that now than ever before.

My father was a community activist, artist and a member of the Afrocentric Council of elders.  His ashes are buried in Ghana.  My Step father was a music teach and gospel choir director.  At his funeral the church was filled with hundreds of former choir members all singing in  harmony songs he taught them.

This is the legacy of my fathers--they used their gifts to help others.  They made the world better because they gave the best of themselves.  This is my father's day blessing and challenge--infuse their light into my heart.  They embodied the Divine Masculine.

Healing Black Trauma

Healing Black Trauma

This is a mini episode that offers an affirmation in words and song to Black people who are experiencing trauma after recent killings of Black people at the hands of White Police Officers.  We need to address this situation on multiple fronts, and one front that I can assist with is healing.   There is much fear in the world now.  Many lives are being lost through the COVID19 pandemic as well as killings of innocent Black people.

We are in the midst of a great shift and there is chaos all around us as belief systems are rooted out and shown for what they really are.  No one can hide anymore.  The truth, no matter how ugly, is coming out.  Goodness and depth of spirit are also emerging as truths.

This is the affirmation that Sanaa Green explains and sings in this episode:

WE ARE THE ORIGINAL PEOPLE

THIS ADVERSITY IGNITES OUR GENIUS

AND WE WILL RISE JUST LIKE THE DAY

I WILL RISE UNAFRAID

Tchiya Amet

https://lightbeingwellness.com/about/Tchiya Amet became a sound healer the moment she began her Self Healing and Self Care Journey. She originally trained to become an astronaut while a Physics major undergrad at Oberlin College and then a Galactic Astronomy grad student at UT Austin until she experienced much womb calamity and catastrophe. At the foundation of her adventures back to a life of balance, she home birthed (assisted by their father alone) and homeschooled two daughters back in the days when this was practically unheard of.

An internationally acclaimed Reggae and World Music artist for over three decades, Arit sought to find a way to combine her three passions: the Celestial Realm, Music, and Healing. With KemeTones Cosmic Sound Healing, she has made a way. With the birth of HeruScopes, 13 Month Kemetic Sidereal Astrology system, her decades of research in Cultural Astronomy burst onto the scene. Now that her music has expanded from Reggae, encompassing Native Reggae and Reggae Fusion Jazz, to World Music, her music has taken another turn around the Spiral Dance into the genre of Devotional World Music: music designed to lead us to Be Enlightened in Every Moment.

An avid naturalist and activist, the life of Arit Neter S has also included organic farming, cultivation of medicinal cannabis and medicinal products, festival production, property management and real estate, herbalism, natural living (Vegan for over 30 years), wellness coaching, candle making, triathlon training, standing rocks, medicine wheel gardening, Egyptian yoga, Kemetic spirituality and culture, travel for a research project in Cultural Astronomy, and much more.

Tantric Yoga with Krystal Taylor

This episode triggered feelings of body shaming for the host, Sanaa Green.  While the interview is gracious, it has sparked exploration of the ideas of body positivity, and how Black woman's bodies are view in American society.  It brought up areas for me to examine for healing.

Krystal discusses "healing through pleasure, sapphism and much more!

From Krystal's Website:

Tantra is from two words: Tanoti; to expand and Trayati; to liberate.

Tantra Yoga: That which expands the limited world of the Ego (little/lower self) to the unlimited world of the big self (higher self)

This is the first in a series of shows on sacred sexuality.  As I heal and come more connected to myself, sex has come front and center.  I was actually glad for the menopausal hormonal imbalance sometimes because it took away my interest in sex!  On today's show, sex is front and center as we talk to Renee Adolphe aka Pranhdara Prem a out her life as a Tantric and energetic healer.

Today’s guest is Renee Adolphe also know as Prandhara Prem. She is an, International Tantric Holistic Therapist, Relationship and Sexuality Coach, Ordained Interfaith Minister, Rebirther and psychotherapist! For more than 23 years, Renee has been serving as a healer. Through her own journey to experience sexual healing, wholeness and expanded pleasure, she came to realize; there is more sex and pleasure than our culture has led us to believe.

Like many Americans, Renee grew up in a Christian household where sex was shrouded in guilt and often left her feeling empty and conflicted. After finding Tantra, she was liberated by self love and was able to release shame and guilt.

Renee has studied a broad range of healing modalities including, Counseling Psychology, Transpersonal Therapy, Shamanic Medicine, several types of Reiki and Tantra, ear acupuncture, iridology, Past Life regression and more!

She has appeared on Lifetime Network’s, Married at First Sight , (one of my favorite shows) and on Howard University Radio, WHUR 96.3! (Howard is my alma mater!), just to name a few of her national appearances. I am so honored to have Renee Adolphee on this episode!

Is Your Shadow Self In Control?

Is Your Shadow Self In Control?

This is a conversation about the shadow part of our selves.  Lottie Spady and I discuss the book Existential Kink by Carolyn Elliott, Ph.D.

"Until you make the unconscious, conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it fate."  C.G.Jung

The shadow is our hidden beliefs that can prohibit us from achieving our conscious goals.  Even the best affirmations may not get past the shadow  to achieve your goals.

Featuring poetry by Khalil Gibran.
