And the podcast shoutout is to the Teacher Think Aloud podcast. This is a wonderful podcast aimed at helping teachers do better. Hosts Anna and Shey do a great job of bringing classroom issues to the show and talking about how teachers can handle them. Really good folks and I’m so happy that they create content for my profession. And if you like their show as much as I do, give them a like, a rating, and a review.
And the listener shoutout is to PohnPei Micronesia. Don’t confuse it with the Roman city of yore. To visualize where it is at, think of Papua New Guinea and go north east about 2000 kilometers. For miles, um…. Have fun with that. It’s a very wet island that has jungles in the interior and beautiful shores. The language, Phonpeien, is part of the Australnesian languages which includes Hawaiian and Maori and Malagasy. And of course I would love to visit this island some day. So to my listeners on Pohnpei, I say Kalahngan and Pwohng mwahu Thank you and goodnight

Listener Shoutout: Bamako Mali. I’m still not sure how someone in the city found my podcast, but I’m glad that they listened to at least one episode. Bamako is the capital of the country of Mali, which is the legacy of the Malian empire. This city has seen the likes of Mansa Musa who traded salt for gold and then messed up the whole gold market when he went on hajj and flooded it with gold gifts. People have lived in the city since the paleolithic era. Of course it was also colonized by France during the ransacking of Africa by the European powers. It did make me smile when they dropped French from their official languages. And so today, I’ll be attempting the main language Bambara. To the listener in Bamako I say Aw ni ce and Aw ni su Thank you and goodnight

Podcast Shoutout: Reddit on Wiki. Hosts John, the punny pinoy, Josh, the sweet international host, and ya boy Sean, Houston’s finest, gang up with a rotating cast of advice givers and work through your weirdest reddit stories and give you the best advice three cis hetero partnered men can give. And it is really good. Like these guys really think it through and are super kind. And so if you like their show as much as I do, go and give them a like, a rating, an ogtha, and a review.
Listener Shoutout: And the listener shoutout is to Thiruvan anthapuram (or Trivandrum). It is the capital of the southern Indian state of Kerala. The meaning of the city name is "The City of Lord Ananta” It's distinguished by its British colonial architecture and many art galleries. It’s also home to Kuthira Malika (or Puthen Malika) Palace, adorned with carved horses and displaying collections related to the Travancore royal family, whose regional capital was here from the 18th–20th centuries. ― Google
It’s also where a fun drama called “the good karma hospital” is supposed to be set. And of course, I would love to visit there. I wonder if folks get tired of me saying that.

Podcast Shoutout: The Vocal Fries. Hosts Carrie and Megan are deep in the world of linguistics and language. They also care deeply about people and want to see marginalized voices not be silenced through discrimination. Also, they know that having two women as hosts will drive jerks who care more about who is talking than what is said crazy. So if you want to learn about cool voices, vocal discrimination, and how young women often lead language change, go and give them a listen.
Listener Shoutout: Zalec (Xa-Lets) Slovenia. From Wikipedia- Žalec was attested in written sources as Saxenburc and Sachsenwelde in 1182 (and as Saschenvelde in 1232 and Sachsenfelde in 1256). The medieval German names are based on folk etymology from the Slovene name, probably the genitive of the plural form *Žalci. This in turn was based on the personal name *Zal and would mean 'descendants of Žal'. In modern German the settlement was known as Sachsenfeld.

There are a couple of words I want you to know before we get into the story. Almirah is a closet or wardrobe. Ghataks are professional marriage brokers. Manik is a great jewel of incomparable beauty. Podcast Shoutout: And the podcast shoutout is to The Faerie Folk. If you love very local folklore in the UK, this is the podcast for you. Although the releases are sporadic, each episode is to be cherished and listened to again and again. And if you like her show as much as I do, go and give her a like, a rating, and a review.
Listener Shoutout: And the listener shout out is to Rabat Morocco. I don’t have a personal connection aside from wanting to live there, so here is Google’s quick rundown of the city. Rabat, Morocco's capital, rests along the shores of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. It's known for landmarks that speak to its Islamic and French-colonial heritage, including the Kasbah of the Udayas. This Berber-era royal fort is surrounded by formal French-designed gardens and overlooks the ocean. The city's iconic Hassan Tower, a 12th-century minaret, soars above the ruins of a mosque. Of course I would love to visit there someday. Just looking at the map gave me a few holiday ideas. And so to my listeners in Rabat I say Alif Shukran and Tisbalakheer. Thank you and goodnight

Podcast Shoutout: book retorts. Hosts Danielle and Sam take you through books, movies, graphic novels, and whatever else they come across to keep you entertained. Episodes come out every other wednesday and I have to say I quite enjoy their media breakdowns. And if you like their show as much as I do, go and give them a like, a rating, and a five star review to help spread them around.
Listener Shoutout: Birmingham UK. “Birmingham is a major city in England’s West Midlands region, with multiple Industrial Revolution-era landmarks that speak to its 18th-century history as a manufacturing powerhouse. It’s also home to a network of canals, many of which radiate from Sherborne Wharf and are now lined with trendy cafes and bars. In the city centre, the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is known for pre-Raphaelite masterpieces.” ― says Google.

Listener Shoutout: Gaborone Botswana Named after Kgosi Gaborone, or King Gaborone, a king of the Tlokwa people. There is evidence of people residing where the city stands, going back to around 400 bce. During the early 19th century, there was a lot of upheaval and migration in the area. In 1966, it became only the 11th British dependency to become independent. It is on the very edge of Botswana and South Africa. It is a great place for seeing lots of beautiful wildlife.
