19. When Finance Met Social Purpose with Stephen Fitzgerald

19. When Finance Met Social Purpose with Stephen Fitzgerald

In today’s episode of Sanity Check we are joined by Stephen Fitzgerald. Stephen is the Chairman and Founding Partner of Affirmative Investment Management, the world’s first dedicated green and impact bond fund management company.

Stephen was the former Chairman of Goldman Sachs Australia and in 2011 was appointed to the Board of Guardians of the Future Fund (Australia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund), on which he served for a period of five years. Today he is a member of the NSW Government Expert Advisory Panel on Social Impact Bonds, a founding member of the Champions of Change Group committed to advancing gender equality and serves on many boards including the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. Not to mention Stephen was also awarded an AO in 2019 for his distinguished service to the investment management sector, to Australia-Europe business relations, and to cultural and environmental philanthropy.

I think you can see we have a bit of a theme developing here. Stephen cares a lot, not only about the investment banking world but also about making a positive impact in the process. And that’s what this episode is all about! We discuss what’s happening in the world with our current economic climate, Stephen’s transition from mainstream to ethical investment management, the advantages of green and social bonds and the investment case behind looking at the Great Barrier Reef as an economic asset. We also discuss the role of governance, hiring for a senior role and gender diversity in leadership and the workforce at large. This episode is jammed packed full of goodness!

13. Silent Success with Randy Davis (Part 1)

13. Silent Success with Randy Davis (Part 1)

In today’s episode we are joined by Randy Davis. Now you may not know this guy. He tends to fly under the radar…until now!

Randy grew up in a poor working-class family that always struggled living paycheck to paycheck. He discovered at the age of twelve, being a business owner could be his ticket to escape his family’s financial struggle. He learned by trial and error how to build a business to be effective. His self-managing, self-improving businesses that ran on autopilot continued to have healthy growth and huge profits whether he was there or not. Those qualities did not go unnoticed. Other investors approached him to sell his business, and he declined their offer. But eventually, the price they offered was so lucrative, he would be foolish not to sell.

He did this not once, not twice, but eighteen different times over thirty years!

In addition to building his empires, Randy worked with other ambitious entrepreneurs consulting, advising, and creating strategies for them, while seeking to always find a better way.

He has helped:

·  196 struggling/brink of bankrupt business owners become multi-millionaires.

·  27 business owners grow from seven figures to mid-level nine figures.

·  28 billionaires.

·  19 celebrities and high-profile icons.

·  Trained more than 10,000 small businesses.

Now he is taking all of his experience, insights and perspective and helping others business owners to grow their businesses, generate more profit and personal wealth and to do so without sacrificing the important things.

We can’t wait for your to get to know this incredible man and hear about how he went about achieving silent success.
